I've visited this cafe many times as we stayed outside Alyth numerous times throughout the year and more so when my sisters cancer was terminal. The reason I'm back today is to visit where their ashes were scattered as both my mom and sister are scattered here together. (We live in Wales) I would agree with many other reviews on here that this is not the friendliest cafe considering how lovely it is. I will point out that most times when the younger girls serve, they're very pleasant. I was here on Monday for tea and cake and the young blonde lady serving was absolute lovely and gave me the WiFi password, as I've also had on previous trips when I've asked. Nothing worse sitting on your own, Billy no mates and can't use your phone. Today I'm stretching and getting signal on and off. Anyhow, I came In today, Wednesday 16 October, no hello.. nothing. Sat down and rude woman appeared with pen and notepad..no hello.. just are you ready to order or do you need another minute? No smile, no pleasantries. I ordered I then went up to look for the password only for her to tell me there isn't one.. you can't have WiFi as we don't have it. I said it's showing up .. and I got it on Monday. No you didn't as we don't give it out... if everyone uses it our tills don't work.. Really ??? 🤔🤔😶🌫️ I said once again I got it on Monday. - no you didn't !! OK.. seemingly I'm a liar now 🙄🙄😔 Honestly I doubt I'll be back here as clearly the same woman, older, glasses and not a scottish accent I don't believe, Blue in her hair this time. You'd think after many complaints they'd do something about this.. unless she's the actual owner.. which sadly I hope not.. She does not make visiting conditions pleasant .

Heading northbound following hiking trails and doing some wild camping. I stayed on the front carpark, fairly out of the way Saturday night/Sunday morning. It was a peaceful night's rest, and a big car park. I went into the café the next morning to get breakfast. My dog was with me and whilst we couldn't eat in the main cafe building, they directed us to the huts just a few steps away. The waitresses were all very lovely and accommodating and brought me proper eating irons along with my peel farm breakfast. It's been a great stopover here and I would recommend to anyone else in a small-mid sized camper or anyone wanting breakfast who's in the vicinity.

This place has so much potential but unfortunately our experience was ruined by the attitude from one individual in particular. I would like to start off by saying how lovely and great the 2 young girls were that we’re working, there was also another lady with short brown hair who was lovely. The 2 to younger girls in particular were fantastic and will go far, they were helpful, welcoming, polite and friendly. What ruined our experience was the middle aged women with brown hair in 2 pleates. She was so obnoxious and rude, acting like she was doing us a favour for doing her job. I highly suggest you rethink your job choices as you clearly do not enjoy it and I can see the effect that her mood was having among the tense atmosphere with the staff, I completely understand everyone has bad days but to be a paying customer who is greeted so poorly and made to feel so uncomfortable is not acceptable. It really let this place down as it had potential but we will not return. Felt like coffee was very overpriced also and not the best, not even chocolate on cappuccinos and no sugar for takeaway coffees- we had to take from the table. I hate to leave such a poor review but I left feeling so let down by my experience here.

We came here for the first time for lunch. Nobody spoke to us as we came in, We had to ask if we should take a seat. We were then served by the rudest person I have ever witnessed. She was absolutely miserable and so so rude. Older woman, with shorter greyish hair and glasses. She made us feel like us being there was a massive inconvenience. She never smiled once. Just came over and stood at the table with a notepad and pen and waited until we spoke. Honestly just a horrible horrible woman. I am honestly shocked this woman works in a customer service job. Cost us £60 for lunch, only to be served by this women with a face like thunder.

I used to come here often and thought a nice little trip for myself and partner would be nice. for lunch. Our server was a lovely young girl but whoever is in the kitchen now has dropped standards so badly I won’t be back. Our server told us our main meal may take a while so I ordered some pitta bread and humus to munch whilst waiting. It never arrived. When my lunch arrived I was told the humus was also ready. I ordered halloumi on a bun with salad, crisps, chutney and coleslaw on the side. What I got was half a teaspoon of slaw and a pile of lettuce. My partner the same. I complained and the person in charge took my plate away and brought back what is usually served. Never replaced my partners. The attitude and standard has slipped so much in this place from the friendly quality service I received on many other visits. My photos show before and after

Cold cappuccino when asked to warm up it came back half full . Was eventually replaced . Attitude to support dogs from one person was exceptionally rude and snappy Overpriced . Two sandwiches . Two cakes and coffee and tea £30.00 Will not be returning . Sad as it used to be well run .

I’ve rated Peel farm low not for food or the shop which seemed good but for the poor state of the poultry housing on the nature trail. The hen house is in a sad state, falling apart and inside is piled high with bird faeces. Sad sight especially after you read the sign claiming Peel farm is giving these birds a good home to spend their days. What I saw was far from good animal welfare. Wouldn’t take much time or effort to sort it out Peel Farm!

When we arrived we got shouted at by a member of staff telling us we couldn't park roadside. It would have been helpful to all if there was a sign saying this to avoid this unpleasant welcome. We went for breakfast and because we had our dog with us we expected to eat outside. However, we did not expect to receive breakfast out of cardboard containers because there is no service outside. We even had to pay the same price as if we were eating with service inside. As a result the food was very wet, cold and soggy and I most certainly wouldn't recommend if eating outside. The service was very slow too. The hot chocolate was nice though.

Having looked forward to our visit as we had done little eating out on our holiday we were left feeling rather flat. As we had our dog with us we ate outside (only assistance dogs inside which we understand) in one of the little summer houses. Said summer house was sorely in need of an update in decor. The food arrived in cardboard packaging which was extremely disappointing and to be honest completely stunned. The wooden disposable cutlery was useless. We are no longer in lockdown and there is no need to cut corners. Small helpings and overpriced, although we shared a scone afterwards which was very fresh and tasty. As mentioned in a previous review The Wee Bear just down the road is much, much nicer. On a positive note our waitress was very helpful, smiley and polite. I would suggest to the owners they look to their laurels and have a re-think of how they present their food and treat their outdoor customers.

Arriving on a sunny day we asked if we could sit at table outside and were told yes, but we’d need to come inside to order - not a problem. So we ordered and paid and went outside to wait (the waitress said they’d bring our order out). After ten minutes our drinks hadn’t arrived so I went inside and asked about them, whereupon I was handed two unopened cans straight from the fridge. No glass, no ice. A bit odd I thought, and didn’t complain, but I also wondered why they just didn’t give me the drinks when I paid, if that’s how they served them? Another ten minutes later our food arrived, in chip shop takeaway boxes with wooden cutlery! Shocked, I said we hadn’t ordered takeaways. Only to be told “that’s how we serve outside, there’s a notice on the door that tells you that” and the waitress walked away. Pretty stunned and feeling like second class customers, we ate up very quickly and left. Won’t go back - The Wee Bear is just up the road and much friendlier

Staying at a nearby caravan site with inclement we went to Peel Farm for cosy breakfast, we had our dogs with us and were happy and expected to be seated in the nice outdoor huts provided. However breakfast took a long time to prepare when we enquired about it our breakfast was waiting indoors in take away containers with wooden cutlery. Our hot drinks were also in take away containers and the tea was served brewing in the cup with no milk. On enquiry about milk for tea we were were given half cup of milk in a takeaway cup and when asked about real cutlery we were not allowed real cutlery outdoors. Due to going back inside for milk and request cutlery my breakfast was cold. This is advertised as pet friendly place and although we were prepared and expected to sit outdoors we were not treated as equal as other customers even though we also paid full price. It would have been a much better experience if we were able to eat and drink out of real crockery and use real utensils. Sadly when I tried to discuss with the staff we were told its our policy we don't make the rules, hopefully this poor experience reaches the owners. Safe to say we will not be returning.

We visited today and honestly I was so disappointed after driving out from Montrose. We had to ask for food menus after being left sitting for 5 minutes. Which would have been fine in isolation but what followed was not much better. We ordered our drinks and food, waited about 10 minutes for drinks, 20 by the time the food came. The girl who served us was very apologetic and offered us some free drinks which we did appreciated but declined since we were going to have coffee and cake after our soups etc. We waited so long on someone coming to ask what we’d like that we ended up leaving and got coffee and cake at wee bear cafe.Normally I would not complain about these seemingly minor things but it was one thing after the other. The glass my drink was in was visibly dirty, it was not particularly busy and the food was average. Not the sort of experience you expect when you’re paying £7-8 for a baked potato.

The food is nice. The service is good. Great place to take the family. Plenty of parking and the cafe is disable friendly. The downside and only one I have is the location of the restrooms.too close to the main door and difficult but not impossible to access with a wheelchair.

Having been recommended to one of us, our party of four arrived in the pouring rain on a very dismal morning. We were greeted warmly and served with our very tasty lunches of soup and sandwiches. We then decided to have cake and three of us had the ginger and orange cake which we all agreed was one of the best cakes we have ever tasted! We then moved on to the gift/barn building where we found a great variety of candles, jewellery, unusual food items and a barn full of older items for sale. A lovely couple of hours!

Peel Farm has it all, a nice shop with jewelry, children's toys, clothes and they sell the famous Bothy gin, also some antiques and a place where you can have a coffee or lunch. The food is very good. The baking is delicious and the staff are always happy to serve. A lovely outing.

The coffee shop is a wee delight. Fresh food and home baking, great choices and delicious scones and cakes. We had the soup & baked potato combo. The bacon & lentil soup was seriously yummy, baked potatoes came with salad and lots of choice of fillings including fresh Scottish salmon. Food was served promptly by a cheery young helpful chap. Bonus of Peel Farm is..... the gift shop, the Gin Bothy and the putside activies

Love going to Peel Farm: the food is always good, homely fare - and they will try to accommodate any preferences and special requests. The salads and special platters are always really interesting and tasty and the cakes and scones are brilliant and home made.

Had a lovely afternoon at peel farm food was lovely, staff were very friendly and helpful couldn't ask for much more. After lunch we walked the nature trail which took us round by the play park and then lead us to the horse, sheep, rabbits, hens and the deer.If you follow the grass right round by the deer you come to the view point for the Isla Gorge which is beautiful to see. There is also a duck pond across from the entrance. You can walk around the gift shop and the nature trail and play park without using the cafe. Its great for the kids and it's free.

Great set up with a small retail outlet selling a wide variety of gifts and antiques. Enjoyed a good browse there. The cafe/restaurant is a quaint farmer's kitchen set up. Good food but a little over priced. £6.99 for a baked potato is pushing it a bit. Platters and combos much better value. Service friendly and efficient.

Visited here for first time yesterday, arrived about 15.15 and found closed at 16.00. Wondered if we could still have lunch, and told yes if our choice still available. I had a cheese platter with oatcakes, fresh fruit and pickle,it was first class. The biggest surprise to us was customers were still being seated well after closing time. When saying as we paid we were sorry we had no time to browse the shopping barn was told that would stay open until we had all left. Well done Peel Farm, lots of similar places should try following your example.

Had a lovely late lunch here last year. Great soup and a wonderful ploughman lunch. Almost couldn't finishThen had a lovely long look round all the wee shops. Fancy Gin, whisky glasses and a beautiful lentil jar purchased as well as foodie stuff. Good for a good look round. If you have children with you the hens are hilarious and the ducks were entertaining too! Will need to keep an eye on young kids though, but you do anyway really.

We loved our weeks stay at the Old Cow Byrne. Fantastic renovated property with all the mid cons. Poor phone reception but excellent internet. Good if you have EE's Wifi calling. It's a large property with underfloor heating. The kitchen/ living room is open plan. The property is close to numerous lovely quiet walks. The owners/keepers make the effort to make it a special stay. Nice touch with essentials like, bread, milk, eggs etc. But also nice fudge& biscuits. Also fantastic soaps, shower gels etc. Luxury items are abundant with quality bedding and towels. A fantastic family holiday location and I would recommend this place to anyone.

It is not often to be able to use one's cabriolet convertible car, in the middle of February, in our neck of the woods ... but it was like a cool summer's day on the 17th, so the car was unwrapped, and my wife, our eighteen year old grand-daughter and I repaired to Peel Farm for lunch and a nose around. What a glorious nine-mile run. After having our long-winter cobwebs blown away, we were ready for the famous remind-you-of-home soup and some other splendid refreshments served by this first-class, farm-grub establishment. Needless to say when Vivian's stuff arrived on our table, we congratulated ourselves heartily on our choice of drive and venue. Afterwards we had a browse in the extensive shopping-cum-antiques building. We will certainly return to this place again ... And Soon.

Very interesting artifacts in the craftshop, the building is very nice and cottage-like and it is a welcoming place to have coffee and buns or soup. Somewhere you can escape in comfort with family or friends or on your own.

Good fresh food, although the menu isn't very varied if your looking for lunch It's in a lovely setting and there's a small play park for children. Dogs are allowed and well catered for. There's plenty parking but this is where I felt badly let down. There is no allocated disabled parking! There was a challenging walk on my crutches from the carpark to the cafe as the surface isn't very wheelchair friendly. With the space available in sure there is an easy remedy and I'm sure we'll come back for more of the good food and see if they resolve the parking for the disabled.

The view from the dining room was lovely and the staff were super friendly and welcoming, unfortunately, the food was not great. The lasagne tasted like a poor-quality frozen ready meal and the mac 'n' cheese was not very nice. The chips were good, though. Unfortunately, for several days afterwards I had an upset stomach. Apparently, due to staff shortages, their menu was reduced and maybe they didn't have the qualified staff who usually prepare the food. Maybe we were just unfortunate and did not sample their food at its best.

Friendly staff, good service. Nice to sit outside and look out over the harbor. They do not serve food anymore, but they do have an ice cream bar daytime. Fair prices on the beer.
