The atmosphere and food are spot on here in this idyllic village setting. I’ve been here a few times and always love the walks around the valley and the Grizedale Forest.

Visited 3 times in a week for dinner with family as staying in the village. We all had delicious food each night and made to feel really welcome in the pub. The children enjoyed playing some of the board games available and also stroking Bob the dog. Bear garden was lovely. Thanks for adding to a great holiday.

After 2 nights of BBQing at Grizedale Camping, we looked forward to our evening dinner at the pub, particularly when we heard that the menu included asian fusion dishes. Think we should have stuck to the pie and chips, which looked amazing, but we chose the pad thai and green curry. Both were incredibly bland, tasteless, floppy re-heated noodles and the chicken had been pre-fried and was dry and chewy. Soooo disappointing. The staff were all very pleasant and when they checked with us if all was ok, we very nicely told them how disappointing the dishes were and the reasons why. Well, leaving nearly a full bowl of noodles was a clear indicator that all was not great, however there was no remedy, solution or even coffees knocked off the bill, which would have been a nice gesture. Stick to the local food is my advice!

We stayed at the cottage next door and visited the pub 4 times, 1 for drinks, a Sunday lunch, and 2 evening meals. Very friendly staff and landlord, local beers and traditional pub menu and pizzas. Our food was delicious on all three occasions, Scampi, Chicken Tikka Masala, Steak & Kidney Pie,Fish and Chips, and a Lamb Roast. Generous portions and all beautifully cooked. It was very busy on the Friday night and we hadn’t booked, but they still found us a table. We didn’t have to wait for our food any longer than we would expect. We loved the atmosphere, and the food, or we would have gone elsewhere after our first visit. Highly recommended!

After a day in Grizedale Forest, we stopped off here for a Sunday Lunch. The fire was roaring and it was lovely and cozy. We all ordered Roast Dinners and although there was a bit of a wait, the food when it came was lovely and tasty and all freshly cooked. The Roast Beef was very tender and delicious. Would definitely recommend a call in for something to eat if you are in the area.

They had their own Eagle ale on and it was the worst cloudy vinegar beer I had ever tasted this side if St Austell. It was an overpriced terrible pint. The place is a tip off. We were going to order food but after that horrid pint and the collie dog climbing on the chairs and licking everything we decided to leave an never ever return to get ripped off. It wetherspoons for us from now on. These little crap rip off pubs deserve to go bust

Visited on Thursday after a day walking in Grizedale. We had booked a table, but called to ask if we could bring it forward an hour, which they were happy to do. On arrival, we then asked if we could sit outside instead, as we were a bit worried our dog would disturb others at the next table. Staff were more than accommodating and were very friendly. We ordered two burgers and two lasagnes, which were all really delicious. Beautiful surroundings too. Would definitely visit again when back in the area.

We are a party of 8 who visited this lovely pub in the most gorgeous village for lunch today. The 5 stars I have given are for the very warm welcome, and the loviest waiting and bar staff. Who couldn’t have been more relaxed, friendly and attentive. We mainly had Sunday lunches which were nice. But they also catered for some of our parties more fussy requirements without question. The staff very kindly made an area for us all to watch the football after lunch, and everyone was extremely accommodating which was really appreciated. Fab little find, would absolutely go again.

Walked in and it was freezing as cold as outside so ended up wearing our coats. Staff were very friendly which made it a question to complain which we did not. Food was dire for the price, Beef was like it was reheated not fresh like a frozen meal type, vegetables was a poor show with carrots cabbage and broccoli no real taste to it very cheap select of veg missing decent flavour of swede, sprouts or cauliflower and then some clearly processed bought potatoes that were neither roast or boiled just a little of both. A real shame as it is a lovely pub and worth a visit for a pint.

Just visited this pub as a family of 5. We ordered five Sunday roast dinners. The meat and vegetables where appectable but the roast potatoes where either frozenen , old or both with the texture of cardboard. I told the waitress on two occasions about this to which see replied they are from bookers cash and carry !!! After the meal I went to the bar to pay the bill and mentioned my problem to the a man called Gary who I think was the landlord. He told me potatoes where from bookers and nobody else has a problem with them !! Even his collegue behind the bar said they where good!! WHAT A SUPPRISE !!! Nobody in my party ate these potatoes and the attitude of the owner was terrible . The final kick in the teeth was when my brother-in-law brought 2 (2 pint) takeaway beer containers from the bar. Each containing only 1.1/2 pints in each . Sadly this was only discovered on my return home 9 miles away . 😢

well i arrived with my 2 teenage children about 5.10pm after a long walk. i ordered us some drinks and took menus outside in the lovely beer garden to choose our meals. however on arriving back to order was told they wasnt taking anymore orders as the chef was under pressure with the orders they had in already.. i was upset as the pub had been recommend. however they did oblige and said there would be 1hour wait 2.5 hours later still no food. i myself have worked in the trade and was a head chef in the lakes for many years. there wasnt many tables who was eating and to stop food 20 mins into the place opening seemed a little strange we did however get our food. it was hot and really nice. service from the waiting/bar staff was spot on. the chef seemed to be doing just one table order at a time why the "owner " sat at the bar. very disappointed and unfortunately wouldnt recommend the pub if your hungry as you will be waiting a while. we wasnt the only customers upset and waiting this evening

Sunday lunch was mediocre at best, overcooked veg, yorkshire puddings that seemed to be Aunt Bessie's, just underseasoned in general.

A lovely small pub. We came up to the Lake District for a holiday and wanted a nice Sunday roast. We had a baby and a dog with us. We ordered a Pork Roast, at first we didn't think it looked very much. We think the staff must of overhead us as they kindly bought out a Yorkshire pudding each. The meal was delicious, especially the gravey. The only fault I found was it could have more vegetables. As we were eating, a member of staff asked if we'd like pea puree for our 8 month old which was very thoughtful. We then had a dessert, sticky toffee pudding. I highly recommend it, it was yummy. Not been here before we booked for Sunday lunch. We were shown where to sit and ordered drinks. They arrived in a thrice nanotubes before we’d plumped for Beef and a Turkey lunches, we omitted the Pork option which was also on offer. The Sirloin was succulent and moist as was the turkey, the veg, roast potatoes and lovely gravy made the meal. Having ploughed our way through there was just enough room for dessert. The had a chocolate cake, strawberry cheesecake, profiteroles and the chunkiest apple pie you can imagine. My daughter had the chocolate cake and my wife the apple pie, both were warmed up and served with cream although partway through they brought my wife her custard with apologies. My profiteroles with cream finished it off nicely. Would recommend this pub.

Visited Eagles Head and the six of us were very disappointed with Sunday lunch. Perhaps wrongly, we all expected a buffet type meal and that the restaurant was empty and thought it would be quite full which is why we booked. We all had the lunchtime meal with choice of beef, pork or turkey. Two of us had a very tasty carrot and orange soup but then the main was served. All the meats were OK but not great but the veg were all from frozen and not attractive to look at or taste. One of those meals that would have been OK for about £5.95 but not £10.95.

This pub likes its books and pies; they had chicken, ham and leek, and steak and ale, when we visited; both were lovely. Lots of books to read, with a leaning towards historical books; well worth a visit.

Friendly service and good grub. Decent veggie options (not loads of them but enough). Typical children’s menu options but all fine. Good games and book choices. Nice atmosphere.

We stayed in Satterthwaite for 4 days & were lucky enough to have the Eagles Head next door! Paul & his staff were very welcoming & friendly. The food excellent with great pies, plenty of gravy & locally produced lamb chops! Ate there 3 times & if you like a country pub with lots of charisma, this is it. Great value & dog friendly. Look forward to popping in next time we visit Grizedale & Hawkshead.

Went with a party of 7 and ordered a table at lunchtime but when we arrived in the evening they had two pies left which one suspects came out of a freezer and so several went for a roast which when it arrived was warm at best. They were told but did not like this. The wine choice was white or red and very limited ( i accept we were a party of wine snobs) but not difficult nowadays. Nice fire raging but the outside mens toilet block lined with rough pallet wood was rather odd to say the least. One drink and one main was £18 a head. We did not go back

A quaint pub and well placed to round off a day off in Grizedale with the family. The beer is good and well kept and if your calling in for a pint after day on the bike or after a walk, then this is the place.

First visited the Eagles three years ago when visiting the area and now we live in Satterthwaite, the pub recently changed hands and is now run by two great brothers with a lovely team of staff. We ate there the other night and the food was by far the best that we’ve had in all the times we’ve eaten there. It’s great to see locally sourced meat on the menu, cooked well by Pete in the warm comfortable surroundings of a friendly local pub. The pub is going from strength to strength, at the centre of the local community and is a pleasure to visit.

Barmaid wanted £36. I said, "£36 for two puddings and a pint and a half?" She immediately reconsidered. "It's £29.50.". She printed me a receipt and said, "You asked for extra custard. Life isn't free, sir." I had indeed asked for extra custard, for which I had only been charged a pound. But obviously, people who query bar bills in the Lakes are regarded as the lowest form of scroungers.

Tempted by window display. No prices displayed, shocked at prices. Asked if I wanted vegan sausage roll warmed. Outside was warm, middle stone cold. Stodgy, salty filling. Would have preferred a Greggs. Over priced and disappointing 😞
