Friday night fish and chips was absolutely fantastic. The best that we have had anywhere. We have had a Sunday roast here many times and it cannot be faulted. Excellent pub, beer, food and service.

I regularly drop into the Dyke’s End during solo cycle rides and we’ve occasionally gone there as a couple. We’ve always found it very friendly and with good service and choice of drinks. It’s cosy and rustic inside. The outside garden overlooking Reach green is wonderful. Ignore those negative reviews from 2017. It’s changed hands several times. It did have a rough period but it has now settled down to an unpretentious and friendly local pub in an excellent location.

Lovely pub. We arrived early on a Friday evening for a pie and a pint after work. There was only 4 or 5 others in when we arrived. We ordered our food and she said we would have to wait til 6.30pm (1 hr)as the kitchen didnt open til 6pm. The pub quickly filled up and it was a good atmosphere. But at 7pm, we had to chase our food because it still hadnt arrived (1.5hrs later) and we were absolutely starving. Only 1 other table had been served with food. The meal itself was ok, lovely creamy mash, pie was a bit watery, peas overcooked/old.

If you are looking for a really GOOD Sunday Lunch and feeling welcomed but not rushed - then I highly recommend Dyke’s End Pub. All the food was freshly made. The plates were lovely and warm on a cold day. The meal was hot! We tried the Pork with deliciously crunchy crackling, roasted potatoes, carrots, parsnips, Yorkshire Pudding, with a separate dish of Broccoli & Cabbage entwined. AND with an added feast of Cauliflower Cheese was sublime. The Desserts of Sticky Toffee Pudding which was fantastically fluffy and the melt in your mouth toffee sauce and the refreshing coolness of the ice cream was an excellent combination. I chose Apple and Blackberry Crumble which was so fresh with the addition of Vanilla Ice Cream. Mmmmm The Drinks…Elderflower Gin & Fevertree Tonic was so refreshingly delicious and relaxing. Followed by a variety of good coffees. You must book! I saw a family arrive on the spot and they were offered Pie and a Pint which they came out very happy. Our Rating is 5/5

My friend kindly decided to take me & another friend along to this her local pub for Xmas lunch on the 12th of December which we were all looking forward too, as we have eaten there before. Unfortunately on entering the pub it seemed quite cold as there was no open fire lite & when we asked they told us they had run out of kindling, so we kept out coats on for sometime until we all warmed up. Then when we kindly asked for the menu unfortunately they had none of these as apparently they had ran out of ink for there printer so we then had to look at there written board on the wall, which had fish & chips added to it. We were then told by the waitress they had no chips lol but you can have potatoes, unbelievable for a pub to run out of chips. When our meals arrived it was quite disappointing for a Christmas dinner & the Yorkshire pud was completely flat, but you did get vegetables served separately which were quite a good variety even though there wasn’t lots. We then went onto order our deserts & Once again to add disappointment they didn’t have any crème brûlée so the choice was just Xmas pud with brandy butter or ice cream. So one of my friends could only have ice cream as she’s gluten free & who always fancies that on a cold day, & me & my other friend had the Xmas pud that was served in a pie dish which was not very appealing or professional looking & it was served with custard not the brandy butter like the menu said. We did complain as my friends Xmas pud was also lukewarm & they did kindly apologise & warm it up. Because we complained they did take some of our bill. But I don’t think we will be visiting again anytime soon.

Saw the good-looking varied menu on the website a few days before our visit with friends. On arrival we found there was no main menu but only Spanish tapas and paella. Among the tapas the tortilla was too salty; the “pan con tomate” was brown bread toasted! This also had a slice of (perhaps) Spanish ham which was cut far too thick and was so tough and chewy it was inedible. At least the chunks of potato were fine, but the aioli was thin and tasteless. The seafood paella was the worst we have ever eaten. Tough, dry overcooked mussels, the slices of pepper tasted as though they were straight from a jar and the rice had no fish flavour whatsoever. Absolutely nothing like a Spanish paella where the right variety of rice should have absorbed good quality fish stock. We have spent a lot of time each year in Spain for the last 25 years so do hope customers eating this atrocity don’t think it’s a true reflection of Spanish food. The only dessert was hot brownie and ice cream. Very good to begin with but as the brownie had obviously been microwaved too long it gradually became harder and more solid until I couldn’t get my spoon into it and gave up crunching through it. How could they get that wrong too?!

Reach is a very quaint village that looks how you might imagine it to have been fifty years ago (except for the Fibre broadband cabinet). The pub is no exception. Not remotely twee or gastropub like but a proper old school country pub. It was towards the end of the pandemic stage 4 so the menu was limited but my fish and chips were delicious! Great value too.

We booked the night before (easy via the website) and received a wonderful welcome. Because of lockdown we were the only customers (there was another reservation, but they didn’t turn up ) but the atmosphere was lovely: log fire, Christmas tree, unobtrusive seasonal music. As to the food - it was simply excellent, delicious game pie and lamb casserole followed by a warming bread and butter pudding. It’s a perfect little pub.

Came here yesterday evening on very short notice after we walked out of the (nameless) venue we'd booked earlier as the bar menu on offer last night (all that was available) at the latter was so mean and unimaginitive. When we phoned The Dyke's End to check that they were doing meals and had space at such short notice we were warned that it was a 'reduced menu' because it was just before lockdown. But that included Game Pie (and with a drink included because it was a Wednesday)! And when we got there it was splendid. In fact the menu was so good (despite being reduced) that we had a starter and dessert as well. Very well-managed social distancing, yet still with a cosy atmosphere (because of the welcoming fire and the decor and lighting). We were well-impressed and will be back!

You can’t be charging £9.00 for Fish and Chips and expect a family to be able to afford this. This is more expensive than any average fish-shop price, and about on par with what a small dine-in restaurant would charge. Except, you’ve got to eat this out of a box. For £9.00, you need to be serving something pretty special, not McDonalds style chips and skinned bit of cod ... Sorry but you are over-charging! Triple cooked chips, and more of them ... Larger cleaner, fish? Minted Peas? Sauces?

An attractive pub in a traditional building with light, welcoming decor. A small bar has a couple of real ales/ciders on tap. The food is above average. The ploughmans was prepared with a good salad dressing and toasted roll for example. There was loads of cheese on the ploughman’s! When you consider one portion is 30g, there was at least two week’s worth of cheese in the ploughman’s! Luckily I was walking the Devil’s Dyke so it was good energy for that!

After three attempts I finally spoke to the new owner who says that he won't honour any Groupon vouchers. He says he can't afford half price discounts and won't be bullied by Groupon. In any case, his kitchen is now closed. I'm surprised to see the Groupon deal is still being offered, even though he claims that he asked Groupon to take it down.

It is a few years ago that I visited The Dykes End and the food was not a patch on how it used to be and the menu was nothing like the one on their website either. The food was generally disappointing. I had smoked salmon, lamb shank and brownie. The first course was simple and tasty. The lamb shank was served with dry roast potatoes instead of mashed potatoes and there was insufficient wetness to the meal to make it pleasant. The brownie was OK but nothing special. The wine list was a small hand written slip of paper with 4 wines on it without any details prices etc. No wine cooler available. I would suggest that if all you want is pub grub in a nice country pub then this is fine.

We had fish crumble (very good and with a nice layer of samphire under the crumble) and roast beef (very generous portion.) Everything was served very promptly in spite of the pub being very busy. It was good to have real home made food. On the down side the range of desserts on offer was limited but the cheesecake portion was enormous when it arrived. We have been to the Dyke's End many times over several years. We have seen it change hands a few times, but the service and the food has always been excellent. Unfortunately, last night was not good. As soon as we walked in, we could tell something was amiss. Noel, usually totally unflappable, seemed stressed and not his normal self despite the restaurant being pretty empty (which in itself was unusual for a Saturday night). When ordering, one of our party wanted fish and chips, but was told that the chef said the fish was "not good" so she ordered scampi instead. Two of our party ordered steak which was not officially on the dinner menu, but they were happy to oblige. I ordered a goat's cheese salad. The food was actually okay although the sliced white bread served with the starters was not up to the pub's usual standard. The steaks arrived (nobody had been asked how they would like these cooked), one was medium whilst the other was almost blue. Luckily this actually suited the two who had ordered them. New potatoes were served with the steaks and the scampi although it stated chips on the menu. Our waitress was obviously very inexperienced and bordered on rude. Noel was as charming as always although a little subdued. We did have a nice evening despite everything not being as good as we had come to expect, but I'm afraid we won't be back if the present standard continues. A great shame as it used to be one of our favourite places to eat.

This pub/restaurant has been an occasional destination for a long time - ideal for a simple mid-week meal, or sunday roast. I am afraid that the visit last Friday will have been our last. Once difficult to get a table, booking a couple of hours before was surprisingly easy - perhaps that should have been a sign.... We were early and after ordering the food, we had drinks outside in the sunshine. "No problem, just come in when you're ready..." was the message. When we did, we were surprised that our starters had been sitting waiting for us at the table for some time - odd. Of the 4 main courses, 3 were OK but not special. The fourth, a medium-rare steak (6Oz as promised it was not) was very disappointing. Two thin "1-minute steaks", cooked for at least 5, and tough as shoe leather. Reluctantly it was sent back, only to be replaced by slightly thicker piece that was not cooked at all. Instead it was uncooked, but grey throughout, and seemed to have been broiled in some liquid. It could not be eaten. The waiter apologised and promised to take it off the bill. Finally 2x Sticky Toffee Pudding. These were clearly out of a package and microwaved and burned our mouths, but most remarkable of all was that they were.... ginger syrup spunge cakes. The pub was half empty, and we understand is under new management. At this rate, there will not be much to manage soon.....

Having booked a Sunday meal for a group of friends out on a long country walk - and having heard good things about this restaurant - I was very very disappointed with the whole experience.

I have been here several times for food but this will be the last. We went for a quick sandwich lunch. They were served in very dry bread, the ham was the nasty wet pink reconstituted stuff and the prawns were swimming in a runny pink sauce. The price was £8.50 for each sandwich, the garnish of a few crisps and a small heap of leaves does not come close to making this a reasonable price. The menu currently shown on the website does not seem to be available.

I purchased a Groupon Voucher for a two course meal with wine for two people. We always used to like this pub, and thought we would go Saturday 5th as the voucher said could be used on a Saturday (quite unusual as mostly pubs are trying to fill the pub on non busy days, not ones that should be busy like Saturday). I rang and made the booking, only the day before so was quite surprised when he said they had a table free. I told them it was a groupon.voucher and was told to bring it with me. On arrival a very bored, believe to be the chef said, sorry we are not doing food. The pub only had a couple of people inside and a couple sitting out. It was a lovely evening and it certainly should have been busy. No mention was made they wouldnt be doing food that night, he was fully aware it was a voucher for a meal. We stated that this wasn't mentioned when we rang to make the booking, and he said "oh thought you had cancelled" Not impressed, Such a pity as this was always a good pub.

Stopped in at the Dykes End with my Labrador for lunch on a sunny Tuesday prior to going on a walk nearby. Reach itself is an idyllic spot and the Dykes End has a lovely garden overlooking the picturesque village green.

The Dyke's End pub was saved by the villagers and now provides a very pleasing ambience for lunch and dinners, and can be part-booked for special occasions.

Today, I went back to the Dyke’s End in Reach after a fabulous roast lunch at the pub a few weeks ago - which I had raved about to everyone. Sadly, today the food was very poor indeed. I could have sworn that it was cooked by a totally different chef, despite assurances that this was not the case. To begin with, the roast potatoes were oily, slightly grey and soggy - not the golden, crisp outside, fluffy inside delights we had previously. Neither of us could eat them. Secondly, the meat... my partner had the beef - which, according to the menu and our last experience, should have been medium rare. Instead, it was thick cut, fatty throughout, over-cooked and tough. I had the pork, which was ok but no crackling as I’d had last time. The vegetables accompanying the meat were measly (I had one small piece of broccoli and a few beans on my plate), and the cauliflower cheese was dry and burnt on top. Now, I’m no chef, but cauliflower cheese should be creamy with cheese and golden on top - NOT burnt! The Yorkshire puddings were NOT the beautifully fluffy, majestic beasts we’d loved last time, but tiny, dry, cough-inducing and overcooked. The gravy was bland and watery. So, that was the roast. My partner’s daughter is a vegetarian so had a garden risotto as her main. How can anyone go wrong with a risotto. But wrong they did. This was slop! It was watery and overpowered by lemon? No creaminess at all. Did the chef just chuck it all in a pot and boil for 20 minutes without stirring or adding wine/ stock slowly, a bit at a time?! This dish was by far the worse.

Well located within the village.pleasant atmosphere and gets busy. Great food and well presented. Reasonable prices. Beers kept well with a good choice. Comfortable setting and a typical pub type lays out. Enjoyable a would go back Friendly staff.

Great lunch by the fire. The vegan in our party was catered for very well despite there being no option on the menu. The chef went out of his way to create both a main and a dessert.

Been going here on and off for 15 years, but most recent visit was disappointing. Menu greatly cut back and unadventurous. Just Burgers, Sandwiches, Fish and Chips, etc. Standard pub fare. They used to be better than that with some healthy and adventurous modern choices, but all gone. Maybe the chef was on a day off, I hope so, otherwise we'll have to look elsewhere.

We called into the Dykes End last Tuesday at 1.30 p.m. - a wet and blustery day and received a very friendly welcome and sat beside the blazing log fire. We had 2 excellent home made cottage pies followed by 2 lovely puddings. This is our local and this is the third meal we have had at the Dykes End since Tomas, the new permanent chef, has been there and all 3 meals have been very good. We feel we can reliably recommend eating at the Dykes End.

If you are, like me, someone who deserted the pub after the change of ownership I entreat you to give it another try. After a dreadful blip with bad chefs they have found a real gem. Tamas has settled in now and his food is excellent. A special mention for the the waitress who deserves an award for cheerfulness!

After a change of hands and some delay in finding a permanent chef they now have Tomas who knows how to cook for a country pub. A restricted menu to begin with, but this man can make a pie and cook a meal. Not trying for 4 or 5 star stuff, but good, honest pub grub and a daily "special" which today was a risotto. Cosy-feeling small country pub, wood-burning stove, accepts dogs and walkers, Small garden with tables out front. Very acceptable.

We could not fault the food or the service, delicious and friendly service. We had two young children with us and were made to feel welcome. Although there was not a children's menu for Sunday lunch they improvised with smaller portions.

I really don't understand some of the reviews on this place but am pleased because hopefully it will stay an undiscovered gem and we will still be able to get a table.

We have eaten at the Dykes End several times since the new chef arrived, the cooking has been consistently excellent. Flavours are delicate and each course was put together with thought and complementarity. This chef is superb and we were delighted to find him so locally.

Breakfast roll is amazing. Also dropped my can on the floor and the staff were quick to change it.

Love going to The Yard, service, atmosphere & food is great. You can go just for a coffee to having a full meal with drinks. They have thought of everything from hooks on tables for dog leads to children’s toilet seats built in. The tables are been cleaned constantly and there is no mess or rubbish in sight. I can’t recommend enough. Keep up the great work everyone.

Good location for Newmarket, poor service. The rooms are outside in the car park & are small but clean & modern. Lots of noise potential when busy. Service lacklustre. Expensive for what you get.
