Visited here for breakfast before a group walk. 3 of the 4 had a savoury pancake with bacon, fried mushrooms and Dutch cheese. This came with a small but beautiful side salad which was fab even at 10am! 4th member of the group had breakfast pancake which came with bacon and 2 fried eggs which had very golden yolks and looked very happy. At £9 the savoury pancake wasn't cheap but I didn't eat against until 7pm, apart from a carrot! Very filling and very tasty. Would highly recommend. Returned after our walk for another hot drink but couldn't manage any of the lovely cakes that were on offer. There's an art gallery in site which is lovely to look around and gardens, although it was a big early in the season for them to have much to look at. We will definitely try to visit again

Simply lovely. I had heard good reports of the Dutch House, and they were right. Even in late autumn, the garden is lovely, so well and thoughtfully designed. The ambience is very relaxing, quality art on the walls (and items to buy). The food is delicious - I had a 'combo' of red pepper and carrot soup, followed by a very substantial brie, walnut and honey sandwich (£9). Very pleasant and polite service. There was a litle wait, but this was explained when we arrived, due to only one person working (and doing a great job) Will definitely visit again, and looking forward to it.

The menu is limited (mainly Dutch pancakes) and is very good. The problem for me was the length of time it took to cook. I didn’t think it was particularly busy, but we nearly gave up. Will give it another go to see if we were just unlucky on this occasion.

Overall an awkward experience. Really slow service (45 mins for some sandwiches/ pancakes on a quiet day) Chef/ owner told waitress “they’ll have to wait” loudly but no one came over to tell us about the wait. Just bad customer service & sandwiches made on cheap sliced bread. Sorry but wouldn’t recommend! Fair enough if they were busy/ understaffed (which they weren’t) but don’t just ignore the customer and not come over to apologise! Nice gallery so such a shame! Won’t be back :(

Dutch house café and courtyard with gallery and gardens, Gardens and few sculptures which are nice to walk around. Café has homemade unusual cakes and pancake and does breakfasts with hot and cold drinks. Gallery has some unique pieces but quite expensive work, which I am sure is in keeping with the art world prices. Lady in the gallery didn't seem very interested in talking to us, so we left. We had coffee in the courtyard and service was slow and cups quite small. We had visited this a few years ago when it first opened and decided to give it another try but the improvement was marginal. The settings are very nice and we felt it was a shame that it was to us disappointing. Guess you cant please everyone so good luck with the venture.

The pancakes are always freshly cooked with an interesting variety of fillings, and their cakes are excellent.Added to the good and mainly locally sourced food, there are various paintings and crafts on display, nice magazines to read sitting on the sofa and even a new and tasteful gallery. Despite its very attractive and classy decor, the owners are not at all precious or fussy and are very welcoming to dogs and children. And their garden, with the river going through it is always worth a visit, as it is planted in a very naturalistic and eco-friendly style and blends well with the countryside around it. The art changes, the garden moves through the seasons and there is a varied programme of events to please all ages. The cafe is clean and well-presented and the food is lovely - who cares that the choice is not vast - the menu is unique in the area and a refreshing change from the usual tourist fare that abounds in York and the surrounding North Yorkshire countryside. The hosts are charming and relaxed and go out of their way to help their visitors to enjoy themselves. It's quirky and charming and deserves to be a resounding success.

Service was not great it was friendly enough however the waitress was a bit hopeless, forgetting the order and also butter for someones toast, also we were told there was a power cut when our food was delayed despite all the lights being on, there was no need to make up an excuse. The menu was badly laid out and it didn't include certain items that when asked if they had them, they said they did. It also lacked the cakes they sold and if you are going to call your self the Dutch house put some more dutch dishes on the menu rather than filling up the pages with about 20 different "Dutch" pancakes which are hardly a dutch dish. I like that the cafe sources local ingredients, but when I asked if could have coke I was told I could have an organic lemonade or a ginger beer instead again another failure in their menu especially when they go out their way to stock two types apple juice one being Ribena, hardly local . My cake a chocolate brownie was very nice and I got a reasonable sized slice but I was less impressed by my lemonade, others with me seemed happy enough with there food but it was nothing to be blown away by. Building was as good as anywhere and there is a nice courtyard and if you like art you will probably enjoy it as there are numerous paintings for sale on the wall. A trip out for this cafe alone is simply not worth it, but there seem to be a few more parts to the dutch house which may make a nice trip out.

I have just finished (Sunday, 30/09/2012) a course with Jennifer Tetlow in stone carving, the venue and food provided by Dutch House. The course was excellent and, as a venue Dutch House was fantastic. In fact, the course was so good that the only thing that could drag us away from our sculptures was the lunch in the cafe.A delicious soup and bread was followed by sandwiches and a salad. The course lasted 3 days and we had a different soup, a different salad and a different dressing every day. The only thing that didn't change was that it was all delicious every time. The primus inter pares was the courgette and fennel soup with a dash of ginger in the background and a dollop of sour cream. Just yum. I wish I could cook like that. The proprietors, Jack and Cecile were unintrusive but friendly (the perfect combo if you ask me) unless you needed assistance in which case they had all the time you needed. They get a five star rating from me on all counts. I highly recommend them, as I would Jennifer Tetlow's course. The meals were not expensive at all and the quality, yet again, was the best. Two ladies on the course stayed at the B&B and said that the evening meal was even better than the lunches.

Have eaten here a few times now and have always been impressed with the service and food. Atmosphere is great, plenty for the kids to do, even when it is wet, and interesting art work on the walls. Food is freshly cooked, good quality and different from the normal Yorkshire fare. Dutch panckakes with both savioury and sweet fillings as well as interesting sanswiches and salads. Owner and staff friendly and helpful without being overpowering. All in all a good and different place to lunch in North Yorkshire.

Meeting up with family with kids and the activites for the children and the treasure hunt was great. Art forms interesting with more like wild meadow. Wierd arty thing going on making scupltures. We stopped for coffee and had a range of cakes with teas and coffees the did special child sized hot chocolate. Cakes were really tastty and the pancakes (bannana and chocoltate) just scrummy. The main courses looked super too.Only thing to watch out for was extremely hot water in the toilets when washing ones hands !

We were given a warm welcome by the hosts Sjaak and Cecile for our weekend stay at their Bed and Breakfast. We were showed to our bedroom in the family house, via a lounge with log burner & cosy arm chairs that we could use throughout our stay. Our bedroom with en-suite bathroom was filled with relaxing a cream palette with touches of green and a view over the gardens and surrounding fields. The owners clearly have an eye for detail. Both in terms of design touches like the large branch, suspended by rope to create a wardrobe and how well they look after their guests, leaving fresh milk in our room for tea and coffee and an honesty bar in our lounge. After a peaceful evening reading in the lounge, the silence meant we woke up late for our continental breakfast. Our hosts who were up early and setting up the café for the day, the café walls featured a photography exhibition and items for sale made by local makers. Our breakfast was a real treat for the taste-buds! Fresh berries, yogurt, a ‘mountain’ of toast, cheese, ham, eggs and a little Dutch treat (that I will leave for you to discover when you hopefully visit). We met friends at the cafe for delicious savoury pancakes in the afternoon, again the quality and freshness of the food was excellent. I didn’t have room for cake, but they looked freshly baked and tempting to have with a cup of coffee. On Sunday morning, we were asked if we would like to have our breakfast in the sun, so we sat in the courtyard as swallows darted above our heads enjoying another amazing breakfast. We took our time to explore the garden, such an inspirational space filled with sculptures and a range of flowers and benches for you to sit back and enjoy the tranquillity.Sjaak and Cecile have managed to pull off a rare balance of informality, style and attention to detail to create a venue that is truly distinctive in the area. As we drove off, my partner Darren commented “that’s going to get a five star on TripAdvisor”, you can’t say more than that really.

A set of old barns has been beautifully converted into a crafts centre and attached cafe which serves delicious home-made food. Friendly service and obviously popular with the locals - people dropping in with families, on their bikes and walking to the cafe. Great food and nice community feel in an artistic space. Very much enjoyed.

The tearoom at Dutch House is a fine mixture of homemade Dutch food with an English inspiration. In wintertime they serve 'Zuurvlees' (Dutch Stew). It's a typical Dutch dish, but the English love the taste of it. They really now how to integrate Dutch and English dishes, but also to be absolutely different. The tearoom is decorated in lots of colours and big teapots in all different prints. It cheered me up and I found the atmosphere very relaxing. The owners don't hurry you and you can enjoy the beautiful view with a book or newspaper. You can also go outside to visit and feel the beautiful wild flower garden, art-objects and children's playground with a beautiful self made willow house.Their vision of the tearoom is out of the ordinary, that makes the place very special and inspiring to be. Once you've been their, you'll want to go more often to experience the inspiration time after time. The tasty salads and sandwiches are served like beautiful paintings, everything is well taken care off. You can tell the owners really enjoy doing the extra things and have high standards. They are friendly and interested in their guests. The menu changes during the seasons, but there are also permanent dishes.Every time I visit Dutch House, I'm able to try something different. They also serve an English breakfast and lovely cakes. The pancakes and poffertjes (tiny Dutch pancakes) are really nice. The pancakes are served in several flavours, from sweet to savoury. Flavours you wouldn't expect but taste very well. Dutch House is in many ways an inspiring place. I can really recommend it to everybody. Get surprised and meet the friendly owners Cecile & Jack!

We are regulars at the Dutch House as it is such a warm and friendly place. The owners are so welcoming and we are sure that anyone going there would wish them well in their endeavours. They work hard to create a relaxed comfortable cafe with child friendly toys, games and books. Our little 2 year old son enjoys the hot chocolate and poffertjes (tiny dutch pancakes). The gardens are always interesting and if we had time we would look at the many workshops and courses that they also offer. A fabulous business in a wonderful location.

This is a hidden gem which you MUST visit! The cafe itself is lovely and offers a range of great food, snacks and drinks. I would particularly recommend the Dutch pancakes - the Brie, apple and bacon pancakes are seriously tasty! However, the food is only one part of the charm of this place. The whole environment has a stylish arts based ambience to it, with work from local artists and craftspeople and some stunning glass works on display the day we visited. The cafe opens out on to a courtyard which was great for catching the last of the sun while we our enjoyed our tea and cakes. Alongside the courtyard is an eco garden which contains a mix of natural and imaginatively cultivated landscapes with unusual artworks and pieces of sculpture. There's also a kids' play area, a circular walk and a crafts workshop room. We were so impressed with the whole environment and the friendly welcome we received that we returned to stay in the farmhouse style cottage B&B. Not only do you get a stylish room, but also the use of a snug downstairs living room It's definitely a place where you can relax and unwind. A visit to the Dutch House offers the opportunity to check out the Crayke area, it's an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty which really does live up to its name.

The Dutch House is the type of a venue that is lacking around England. For a long time we have been looking for somewhere that provides the complete afternoon or morning jaunt out. The venue does in fact have a very Dutch feel..stone slab floor, bright flowered chairs, coloured teapots. Everything very tasteful, yet not over sophisticated. Music when we went had a jazzy feel. Art on the walls very worthwhile. Service friendly and attentive but never intrusive. The gardens which the owners are creating over a 5 year period were that mixture of wild and tamed, and in the garden sculptures and a little house made of willow added interest and fascination for children and adults. In fact children are very well catered for here, with their own blackboard running round the cafe and lots for them to see and do, but again not so they would intrude on anyone who was there for a quiet coffee. It is really well thought out. We sat out the back in front of the rolling countryside, and then went for a lovely walk through some woods and fields to return to have more to eat. So the food: first the coffee is really good. Thats always a good sign It comes served with that honey waffle that the Dutch all love. (And it goes so well with the coffee)I had a really good roasted veg and feta salad, and then after there is the Dutch apple cake. They also do cooked breakfasts, pancakes sweet and savoury and sandwiches. All very reasonable. The owners also have a B and B room . I felt a bit annoyed that we live so close that I could not justify staying in it! They also run a wide selection of workshops and events which could be combined with a stay there...on all sorts of things from very early bird watching (5am! ) to making pottery and willow baskets, photography and all things arty...for all ages. Its been open one year now and we only just found out about it! It deserves to be well supported because the owners really are trying to make a beautiful place for us all to enjoy

Food good as usual unfortunately the management have decided to add 10 percent service charge onto bill without notifying the customer. We had to ask for it to be removed which was embarrassing and spoilt our night. We like to leave a tip but do not want to be dictated too about the amount. Due to this new policy we will not be returning.

The Blacksmiths Arms was recommended by a friend for Sunday lunch, we were not disappointed, with a huge carpark and a warm welcome we were shown the table we had previously booked. Drinks were brought and shortly our roast dinners arrived, plenty of everything and was delicious, followed by a gorgeous sticky toffee pudding, then relax in the bar area with more drinks and idle chitchat. The bill was very reasonable so would definitely recommend a visit, various interesting places nearby, Castle Howard, Sherriff Hutton Castle, Malton, Howardian Hills.
