Down The Beach in Purbeck

Today....one of the best bacon baguettes ever!! Fresh baked baguette rammed overfull of quality bacon, nice people great location sat on the beach overlooking a sunny Swanage Bay, fantastic!!

Not been well this summer, so not been down as often as I would have liked. Slightly chilly wind, but a warm friendly welcome as always. Delicious coffee soon warmed me up. Small plateful tastefully plated of things I could manage. Kindness as always. Highly recommend x

It’s always a pleasure to dine at ‘Down the Beach’. Ashley and his team offer tasty food at reasonable prices the service is always friendly. The menu is pretty extensive but highlights, for me, would be the excellent breakfasts and the delicious afternoon teas. Who doesn’t love a warm scone served with clotted cream and locally made jam? Even better if it can be eaten on a deck overlooking the beach! As well as traditional café fayre you can also buy ice creams, beach games, buckets and spades and also hire your windbreaks and deck chairs from here. Perfect!

Wonderful little beachfront cafe serving breakfasts. panini, baguettes and burgers. Beats other places in swanage by a mile, the best burger I’ve ever had.

This became our "go to" cafe while spending the day on the beach at Swanage. Everything we had was great eg paninis, ice cream, cakes etc. Friendly staff, good selection of food and specials as well. A definite find!

Took a lovely walk from the pier right down to this lovely beach cafe at the other end of the bay. Well worth the journey! Very friendly owner, spotlessly clean and a smashing breakfast.

We have been 3 times this summer and had the cooked breakfasts. Delicious. Great value and friendly, accommodating staff. Even if they did laugh at my request for the veggie breakfast with sausages!!! Wonderful location especially after a morning swim.

I had the full English breakast, everything was cooked perfectly and tasted lovely. Great location and service.

Gorgeous lunch as usual...a delight to be able to return as often as I can. Very reasonably priced, beautifully cooked, and a very warm welcome. Sitting right by the sea, watching and listening to the sea. Fantastic!

As ever, great food and friendly service. We had a selection of food including hot dogs, fish & chips, paninis and chips and all was excellent.

Been here twice for breakfast recently.I had the Full English my wife the Veggie.Both excellent.The produce was very good quality and the sausages were really meaty.Difficult to fault and good value.It is a bit weather dependant but on a nice morning there can be nowhere better

Stopped here with my Wife and dog after walking into Swanage from Corfe for much needed refreshments. The food and drink were much better than we expected and the service was wonderful.

Yessss. The season at this delightful cafe has started. As usual, lovely to see Ash and co. As usual, delicious lunch. Sat in the sun reading a book with coffee after. Just love it. So close to the Sea, you can sit and listen. Watch the boats and relax. Just fabulous. X

We walked here from Studland and had a great cuppa and biscuits because we were so late in the day and they had sold out of cream teas! Very friendly service from the owner, great location, great beach

I have been using swanage beaches for some time , this cafe is situated on the north beaches and has a lovely location .The food is snacks and small cooked eats , burgers , chips bagettes , sandwiches , etc.Friendly and helpful staff and the food is of a good quality .One down side is that they wont open if he weather is bad .

Ashley and his team are always welcoming and obliging. The food is excellent, good value and there is a really good choice all in a fantastic location. You can eat at the outside tables or takeaway to eat on the beach. Everything is served from ice-creams and cups of tea to cooked breakfasts and freshly cooked paninis and chips and I understand that the crab dishes are really good. A very special place run by a really friendly team. Also do deckchair hire and beach goods, in fact everything you need for a day at the beach. I only live at the top of the Chine so visit as often as possible with my family and we love it.

We have just spent two glorious weeks in Swanage and have had lunch and breakfast nearly everyday here. Situated on the front at the North End of the beach. The food is excellent, especially the crab and the cakes. We cannot praise Ashley and his staff enough they are very attentative, even looking after someone after they had been stung by a weever fish.

Lovely walk down the promenade leads to this wonderful cafe on the beachfront. Crispy chicken burger cannot be rated highly enough, excellent! Great service from Ashley, Jonny and the team. Would definitely visit again. Cheers

Came for breakfast and ended up enjoying it so much we stayed for lunch.

And means Down the Beach is up and running! Love this place and it’s friendly, warm welcome. So pleased to see Ash and co and have my first delicious baguette of the season, served with crisps and a side salad with yum dressing. (Great menu of other lovely choices) View to die for, sun warm and you’re not hurried to go. Meeting place for friends and then a paddle in the sea listening to the waves. A must go to - highly recommended

visited a few times over half term break, love that the food is all homemade, fish finger butties fantastic and locally sourced, lamb kofta special today was exceptional just wish weather was better, will definitely be back

It's position close to the chine adds to the small beach. Supplies all your drinks and eats for a great day on the beach

Went on a very busy lunch time and was told there would be a wait for food and decided to go for it anyway. We didn't have to wait very long at all. You can see the food being cooked fresh I had the chicken salad baguette which was all fresh and tasty. My wife had the crab salad, wonderfully portioned. We spent the day on the beach and came back for some of the home make white chocolate and raspberry cake and some coffee. All delicious and very reasonably priced! Will definitely be coming back.

Ok I have reviewed this before but have not been for a while so felt it only correct to check whether this place STILL serves the best breakfast in Swanage. It does!!! My full English breakfast was cooked to perfection, which is not always easy, as I am very pernickety about my eggs; like them almost crispy with a hard yoke, also like my bacon crispy. The tomatoes were still on the vine! It was all good. What is more, I was able to order breakfast then run in for what can only be described at a 10 - 15 minute invigorating swim before coming out of the water to my perfectly cooked breakfast. Highly recommend this place not only for breakfast. All the food is home made and of great quality.

Had a bacon,brie and cranberry panini, which was not a patch on the ones we had last year. Which is a pity because your prices are very good.

Ashley you have got this beach retreat as near as possible to perfect. Great food and a perfect site and view.

Basic fare but you could do a lot better. It's ok, the coffee doesn't completely suck and they serve ice-creams. Home made cakes are nice if pricey but the general smell of chip fat is off putting.

Wholesome and delicious! Service with a smile and perfect views, all for a really reasonable price! I'll defiantly be back :)

I have a large family which includes 4 children, two are which are teenage boys, so finding somewhere to eat at a reasonable price that serves decent food is quote hard.

Enjoyed a fantastic meal at this restaurant, I had a very tasty not to mention large panini with chips and salad my husband had a bacon burger with chips that would put other burger establishments to shame, our children had hotdogs and chips, the price is really good too.

What a fantastic find, located down the quieter end of the beach it really is worth the walk, we stopped by for the homemade D.T.B. burger which was so tasty and very reasonably priced. The halloumi and roasted vegetable panini also looked great but unfortunately only discovered the cafe at the end of our hol so didn't get chance to try, although we did have a breakfast on our departure day which was equally good. Would highly recommend this cafe for quality food and reasonable prices compared to that of other nearby beachside cafes.

Ashley runs a clean, well-priced superb cafe right on the beach front. The winter storms have brought a lot of seaweed up onto the main Swanage beach this year, but this end is clear, with perfect white sand between the breakers. Highly recommended.

Gets better all of the time. Ashley and crew do a great food range, tasty with good selection of drinks hot and cold. Well worth the stop.

We plan to,spend as much time here as the weather allows, when we are on holiday in July. All the food is amazing, the service is excellent and all the staff are very friendly

I plan on spending as much time as I possibly can here this summer! Absolutely amazing food and service! Since opening three weeks ago I have had the freshly cooked homemade sweet chilli chicken burger three times and It's been just as good every time! I have eaten most of the menu and I can not fault it! This visit I also had the homemade double chocolate cake, it was beautiful! Lovely family run business, would definitely recommend!!!

Visited over the weekend and in the week. The sky was blue and it was such a treat to eat 'Al fresco' down the beach!!...It is a family run cafe serving excellent food such as tasty bacon sandwiches, yummy breakfasts, burgers, cream teas, teas/coffees and ice creams - the list is endless...and as for the view, you could be anywhere in the med....(especially sitting on the decking looking out to sea)...please try 'down the beach' as you will love it and will not want to leave....

Week before Easter and quite quiet, but the place is in a great location. Very enjoyable snack lunch and friendly service.

This is so worth walking to the far end of the beach for.... nicest owners... nothing is too much trouble. I've been when I'd fallen and the kindness I received was second to none. Friendly service from all the staff. Delicious fresh food at reasonable prices. Clean and tidy. Decked area with tables and chairs... spectacular view. Lots to watch as you eat/drink. Highly recommend.

It would be easy to underestimate this inconspicuous little beach-side cafe. But they do really nice food served by enthusiastic and friendly people. The prices might seem just a tad expensive, but worth it for nice food right on the beach. Their rolls and Panninis are nice, and the cheeseburgers are proper juicy gourmet burgers, not to be missed.

Super location on the narrow prom and a short stroll from the town centre. Has a small deck area with a few tables/chairs. Excellent selection of snacks all day along with drinks and ices.

Friendly staff, decent prices and great bacon rolls, really enjoyed my meal, would definitely come back. Top marks.
