From a Hair and Makeup Artist point of view this venue is lovely and bright. The staff are really helpful and the gorgeous area outside the bridal suite is wonderfully light for your photos and beautifully presented.

Breathtakingly beautiful stay @ DOWNHALL HOTEL AND SPA! You need to see this place to believe it. It’s a gorgeous Essex retreat with a feeling of 1920’s yesteryear. Special mentions to Tracy and Paulina who made our family stay that much more special. The breakfast is fit for a king and plentiful. The family walks are both beautiful and therapeutic. Oh and the spa massage is a MUST! Lilly was my masseuse and she was absolutely brilliant!! There is a reason why Downhall has been voted AA HOTEL OF THE YEAR!!!!! 💪🔥 My humble opinion: STAY HERE AND DONT THINK TWICE!

Fantastic weekend at this gorgeous Hotel. Very attentive staff , great facilities and location . The Spa facilities were also great including the massage. Also a big shout out to the girls in the Spa for being so courteous and professional. I'm already married but if you need a Downton Abbey wedding this is the place.

I always love coming to this spa! The staff are fantastic, and the facilities are always spotless and well-maintained. It holds a special place for me, as I got married here, and I always enjoy returning. Special thanks to Cheryl, who was very helpful during my recent visit. Every visit leaves me eager to rebook and return as soon as possible. The location is convenient, and the prices are great—overall a wonderful experience every time!

This really is a beautiful hotel and location. The grounds surrounding it gave me Bridgerton vibes, it’s stunning, lovely British summer feel as you walk around the area. The Room - I booked a Hotel & Spa package for 2 people for a birthday. Our hotel room was superb, the classic look to it with a gorgeous marble bathroom, only criticism regarding this was the view from our window in Room 123. The Spa - We booked for a back massage/cleanse treatment that came with our package and the therapists were brilliant, very polite, young but was as if they had decades of experience. The actual wet facilities are just too small for a hotel of that size. Green Room Restaurant - The 3-Course Meal was nice, the dining room was very elegant and the young waiters were very nice, friendly and attentive. I did find it a bit bizarre how I couldn’t just change a starter for a dish from the nibbles section as part of my package. Having to pay an extra amount of money for that was quite outrageous to be honest. The breakfast the next morning however was excellent. All in all a good experience, gorgeous hotel, lovely staff but you really cannot justify the price of the overall package which is a shame as I’d love to visit again.

A nice hotel with very pretty grounds; the rooms (we stayed in the Estate Patio rooms) were spacious and bright. Big thanks to the bar/restaurant manager who is a superman and was extremely accommodating and helpful to us! Biggest letdown was the food and spa; the dinner was not good except for the desserts and half of our 'picnic' was inedible (worst potato salad and coleslaw I've ever had). Bar food was okay, much better than the restaurant. Massages were good but the Eden Spa was very crowded and small. One issue is you can hear absolutely everything from nearby rooms (luckily we only had my dad staying in the next room but could even hear his TV show). Overall perhaps a little overpriced as it wasn't super luxurious but also had no major issues during our stay.

I honestly love dining at the downhall hotel but why does nobody play the panio it would make it so much nicer for the afternoon tea, also I think there should be a dress code no jeans and no trainers as its making the place chavvy as I keep seeing people dressing like this the service can be bad with the young people they don't seem to have had good training then your asked to pay a service charge! I even see a women breast feeding a baby that screamed for ages before hand rather than take the baby outside for abit just let it scream ruiening other people's afternoon and breast feed in another room not next to people eating not everyone wants to see but not one waiter or waitress says anything it use to be a very classy place please start having a dress code and rules.

Rooms were lovely! Stayed in 316 amazing! The staff also Claire,June, mia and the maneger starting with wirth V sorry cant spell the name. Everything was fine BUT! We came as 10 dad treated us and we couldn't had dinner 8pm and after as the dinner area is small was very upset and dad as he paid for good rooms etc. Wasnt nice to expect someone to tell you sorry no dinner you tonight. I think extending the restaurant area would be a chefs kiss its a massive beautiful place with tiny dinner area and to stay without dinner wasnt something to expect. Just eat has saved the night for us 10 and thats including 3 small kids 4,5 and 2yr old. The manager was kind and understanding very kind of him to come in the morning apologise at the breakfast table explaining situation. Everything was also fully booked which was sad deffo need to come with husband just for spa as it was fully booked :(. We run a family business of building construction and decorating if needed any assistance with the restaurant expanding please do not hesitate to contact for quote or any plans as we work with high class professionals also in architecture etc. We often visit new places for get away and love to post on my social media as a influencer. Deffo recommend, but for small group not 10 for sure... or maybe just yet. Thanks!

Stayed 2 nights for a conference. Rooms are huge and comfortable. Service is mixed. Charlotte was always helpful and professional. Our group had to pay our room bills out of pocket because the reservations team couldn't work out how to take an institutional credit card payment from over the phone from New Zealand. Coffee was terrible.

I took my partner there for a couple of nights hoping for a fantastic experience, but in some areas it was a little disappointing. Firstly the positives: It is a beautiful old building and our room was better than we expected, and the view from the window was lovely. The room and the communal areas were all very clean. The food was excellent, couldn't fault it and for the most part, the staff were very helpful and friendly. Now the negatives: We took up their offer of 2 nights with inclusive 3 course dinner and breakfast at a cost of just under £400. Their site says "some items (on the menu) incur a surcharge", what it should say is "most items incur a surcharge". Only 3 of the 6 starters were "inclusive" and the same applied to the main course, and that was only for the "main dish" itself. Whether there was a surcharge or not, if you wanted for example the Salmon, that is what you got......if you wanted a small dish of vegetables that was £6 extra, and if you wanted a small dish of potato, that was an extra £6.50. A medium sized bottle of water was £5.50 and even the "nibbles" they offer you whilst waiting for your starter were £5 or £6. If you shared a dish of veg and potato, shared a bottle of water and some nibbles, your "inclusive" meal would cost you an extra £23.... more if you didn't share the extras and even more if you chose a meal with a surcharge (For example Beef @ £10 extra each) ....Plus a 10% service charge. The "offer" is very misleading, because the "inclusive" wasn't very inclusive. That was by far the biggest let down. Other issues included a stone cold room on arrival and only lukewarm water (that was soon resolved though). We decided to have an evening drink in a lovely large room with a beautiful fireplace. It was cold so we asked if the fire could be lit and although the staff tried, they were unable to do so as they'd "run out of kindling". My partner chose a Pina Colada....it tasted great but the four large ice cubes reduced the amount of actual drink in the glass and at £14.50 we expected better. Finally, on the second morning we didn't get down to breakfast until 09.15 (open until 10.00). Most of the fresh fruit had gone and wasn't replenished, and the "hot" food was only just warm. I should add that the hotel was not very busy during our stay. A beautiful place though and a decent stay.

Really beautiful grounds and building. I came here for mothers day tea and cake. Lady that took our drinks order messed it up, that's fine, then when we were ready to leave, we asked her for the bill and she disappeared. We waited 20 mins. We asked who I assumed was the manager, who also didn't come back with the bill. We had a baby with us and we're conscious not to stay until she was ratty and ruin other people's time so had to get up and address reception to pay. Cakes were lovely, coffee was typical horrible hotel coffee and staff were friendly but not on the ball. I'd expect better for what we paid as it was very expensive.

Booked a spa day with my partner and was very disappointed with the spa facilities. Jacuzzi was cold, relaxation room only had 4 beds which were all taken bearing in mind you had to book a slot for the spa so you’d think there would be beds available so with that we left after 15 minutes. On the way out spoke to reception about dissatisfied experience but didn’t seem to care! Not worth the money at all.

We stayed here for a night and a spa trip and were blown away by the service and the food. Everyone was so welcoming and went out of their way to help from the moment we arrived to when we left. The room was clean, had everything we needed and had beautiful high ceilings. The fox bar and lounge and tea room is lovely and very relaxing. The food at the restaurant was outstanding. The grounds were also stunning and great for a little walk outside. The spa is quite small but they limited the number of people for each timeslot so it never felt crowded. The treatments were lovely (we had a pedicure and Swedish massage) they even gave us a free glass of prosecco for checking us into the spa a little late! . Only minor comments were some of the paint and furnishings could do with a touch up and some acoustic panelling in the restaurant would go a long way to help some of the echoing noise. Overall it was fantastic value for money and a wonderful stay - we'd definitely stay again and recommend.

Stayed recently for a couple of nights. Not cheap at all but some fabulous hall/rooms that would suit weddings, functions or meetings. Beautiful gardens & scenery viewed from our windows. Word of warning, drive slowly as loads of potholes but a decent sized car park once avoided. Food was on the whole very good as were the cocktails. Dog friendly with friendly, polite & helpful staff. Recommended.

Car park and road up to the hotel could do with resurfacing. We had a relaxing massage in the spa, it was excellent! Various treatments are available. Definitely book beforehand to be sure of availability. We stayed one night (a Saturday night). Dinner was nice, a bit expensive, but that was expected. Our room was very nice and had most of what could be expected, complementary tea varients, coffee and chocolate were nice, a little fridge in the room was handy. The only down point for us is that the bed mattress proved too soft, so we didn't sleep so well and awoke needing another massage. As well as having a spa, this looks like it would be a great wedding venue. Nice garden for photos. Children's play area, large chess board, tennis courts. Finally, the staff were great, very friendly and helpful.

Only there for a spa and lunch. Can’t say much about the spa except it’s smaller than others I have been too. Unisex changing areas. The Fox bar and restaurant in the lobbyish was fabulous. The staff (especially Nicole) were great, the food and drink was excellent. Child and dog friendly. The interiors were recently up dated and the whole place had a modern character filled atmosphere.
