Dovecote Inn in Newark and Sherwood

The best Sunday dinner we have had in a long time. Freshly prepared, good portions and delicious homemade Yorkshires and stuffing. Service was great and all staff really friendly. Recommend The Dovecote Inn booking advised as popular.

Food was outstanding! We visited the restaurant this evening & the atmosphere was lovely and chilled. The service was top notch the 2 ladies serving were so polite & helpful. Now the food, 1 word WOW! We had 3 courses but wish we could have tried everything on the menu. The food was delicious the seasonal menu was perfect! The flavours paired perfectly together the chefs definitely know what they are doing!! First visit but we shall be back! Thank you x

This place is lovely; Sam who greeted me was amazing, very knowledgeable and helpful, the room was beautiful and the food excellent!! I will definitely stay again. I’ve added some pictures of the local village from some of the walks I did near by too.

The fish and chips that I had here are the best that I've had this side of Whitby. All the dishes our party had were superbly presented and delicious. Super friendly service as well.

Nice pub with good beer, but food service was slow 🐌 and the food was nothing special when it finally arrived.

Lovely food staff a little eager asked if I had booked and my name before I actually stepped inside..would have preferred my soft drink in a nice glass rather than a pint beer glass

We had a Sunday roast here plus a dessert and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were welcoming, friendly and attentive. There is a lovely large garden area which we took advantage of for a post meal drink. I can't comment on the rooms as we didn't stay here. The pub is in the old village of Laxton which is worth a visit for its history.

Stayed for 2 nights in the large room. Very comfortable. Bed and en suite toilet upstairs and large warm bathroom downstairs. Very clean everywhere. Breakfast was in our room. Fruit. Cereal. Yoghurt. Toast and buns plus Danish pastry. Staff very nice and friendly. We had evening meal our second night in the pub attached which was very nice.

Fabulous food great beer and fantastic Customer service. Had the Sunday lunch. Wish I could give it 6 stars.

Could do with few more affordable things on the menu For a tiny cheese cake in a small drinks glass nearly £8 terrible price..but overall staff lovely food expensive

Close to Sherwood Forest and Major Oak, a most charming and welcoming pub-restaurant-B&B. Attentive staff, a superb room and impeccably clean. It was the ideal stopover on the way back from the Lake District and to kiss dear Robin Hood (Woods in French... Robin des Bois!) and his merry companions!

The dovecote is one of my favourite pubs and a little gem in this country, I've never had a bad meal. Beautiful location in Laxton village. The museam of the ancient field system is located in one of the old barns and is interesting. Food is locally and seasonal sourced and always high quality. They have great Sunday roasts. I don't drink but those who do enjoyed a pint or two. It's great for any occasion and the staff and owners will always do what they can to facilitate requests.

Soulless. Very sad to see the decline. It is an old English country pub which used to be extremely popular, full of character, punters and good food. Even the furniture was not fitting for a country pub but more like a cheap cafe. Pleasant service but oppressive decor.. It could be brilliant

Booked for a sunday very disappointed that food was not available and the bar closed at 6 no taxis s available . The accommodation is lovely and staff pleasant and helpful

We were staying in Laxton, so had to try the 2 courses for £20 deal, which by todays standards is very reasonable! 2 couples, we had Beef and Pork roast, all was really nice. Only slight criticism was needed more roasties and veg. We had sticky toffee pudding with custard, which was a joy. Doggy friendly too which is a bonus!

Wonderful meal, rump steak with all the trimmings, cooked and served to perfection. Quaint rural pub in Old and interesting village of Laxton, Nottinghamshire will definitely go again.

Went to the car meeting and saw some exotic cars in a beautiful setting

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome . Our rooms were beautifully clean and everything we needed provided . Our evening meal was superb and our waitresses were so polite and happy . We enjoyed 2 nights here and would def recommend.
