Lovely experience at Dougie’s. Food was excellent, staff were extremely friendly and I can’t wait to visit again!

We found this wonderful bistro offering light lunches on through the ExtraM1le website. Great friendly service and very good plates of food, quiche and mackerel pate. Will go again and maybe stay in the village to experience the bistro which is booked at least two months ahead with the menu changing monthly.

Called in as passing, and it looked inviting. Was not disappointed, lovely ambience very clean. Service friendly, food very well presented and delicious.

My husband & I booked a table for the Bistro evening. We were greeted firstly by our waitress & then the chef. All 7 courses were beautifully presented and tasted amazing. We have eaten in some very up market establishments with excellent food & this is up there with them. The table is yours for the evening, so you are not rushed & can stay as long as you wish. Anyone wanting to book a table must be prepared for a wait. Word has got around about how good it is here. We had to wait 3 months, but it was well worth it. We loved it that much, we booked to go again before we left.

Did I like it, no, I LOVED it!! The owners and staff are fab, the food is delicious and comes with a lovely explanation of each dish when it arrives. The atmosphere and decor is great and also brilliant value for all the super food you are treated to! Highly recommended and we will be back!

We had a fantastic evening last night at Dougies. The food was superb. Service was excellent and the whole evening was thoroughly enjoyable. Great birthday meal for our daughter and the final touch at the end with the sparkler and personal birthday message on her plate finished the evening off nicely. Highly recommended.

Well organised and great food, made it extra special that the Chef/Owner came out to explain the courses as well as the staff that were well informative and helpful, really happy for a first visit and be back again

Irritated waiter who made us feel unwelcome. Went at lunchtime.Was a lovely ambience. Food was decent but not outstanding. What really, really spoilt the experience was the waiter who was too rushed and seemed irritated with us. After our main we were asked if we’d like something else but didn’t fetch a menu… just stood there and asked what we wanted. I didn’t know the place closed at 2pm but had he let us know we would have hurried along. I asked for the bill but got told what it cost. Asked for a receipt after paying but was given the credit card slip. Finally asked for a VAT receipt to be told they don’t do them so asked for a receipt showing what we’d ordered. Eventually got a bit of a till receipt. I left needing the toilet thinking I daren’t go for fear he’d be more irritated. That is the overriding summary of my experience - an irritated waiter who couldn’t be bothered. This was my first visit to Dougie’s and I went based on the reviews and a personal recommendation. But not sure I’d go again if I’m treated in this way.

Visited 28 Jan, would have taken pictures but the food was just too yummy to not eat straight away! We had the wine match complementing the menu, would recommend. Would deffo visit again. A unique style service and menu for the area.

Myself and my girlfriend went for the Friday night Bistro with a set course meal. In all honesty it was truly outstanding, really genuinely incredible food. The chef is an exceptional talent and has been honing his craft very well there. I would highly recommend trying to book in for this Friday night occasion. The staff are incredibly passionate and lovely and you get a real sense that they care for you and your experience dining there. During the day as a cafe I've only been once a few years ago and it had a great atmosphere. I'm sure they deliver the same level of excellence.

Absolutely outstanding. The tasting menu is as good as you’ll find anywhere. Reasonably priced too. Kirk and team do a wonderful job. Very friendly and attentive. This is a little gem of a place but make sure you book well in advance!!

Fantastic and creative food and wonderful service as always.

This was our first visit and was recommended to us . We shall definitely be returning as the food was exceptional . The service was excellent and it didn't just feel like a meal out , it felt special. We had the 8 course set menu and every course was beautifully presented with a real attention to detail including the ingredients used and flavours . The atmosphere was warm and welcoming and at the end of the evening the chef came into the dining area to introduce himself and check that everyone enjoyed the food which we thought was a nice and very professional touch .

A great place to stop. Very clean place, nice staff, efficient service and tasty food. If you want a bacon sandwich and a tea halfway up or down the A1(m) then this is perfect. The didn't have any eggs on the menu else I would have given 5 stars. We will return.

Fijn restaurantje met goed eten. De cappuccino's waren geweldig. Het restaurant is licht en vriendelijk ingericht. Het geeft een beetje huiskamer gevoel. De medewerkers zijn vriendelijk en behulpzaam. Het eten is vers en met zorg bereid. Ik heb er lunch gegeten. Mooie porties. Genoeg keuze op de kaart.

Once more an excellent location. The parking round the back is not private but the pub on the corner gets grumpy about those going to the café. The folk at the café bear it with good grace, serve top notch food and are eminently hospitable.

Something a little different and very good. Well worth a visit.

I had delicious spicy soup and lovely home made quiche with salad. Generous portions. Nice relaxed atmosphere. If you don't like salt on your lettuce, say when you order.

Don't be fooled by the name .......Dougies( cakehole) is far more than cakes. I have just experienced the gourmet bistro menu. All locally sourced, high quality ingredients cooked to an impeccable standard. Beautiful food in decadent surroundings. Extensive wine and spirits menu too. I've never seen so many different gins..... After a soup course , fish , succulent turkey & black pudding with the loveliest vegetable dauphinoise, an amuse Bouche of vodka& raspberry to cleanse the palate then the dessert. Wow , the dessert. A trio of home made ice cream with a mince pie crumble..... I actually bought it home to share with my partner....... It was the next best thing to booking a table for this year. No chance. This venue is so popular that booking in advance is essential. Well in advance. Staff are attentive , approachable and friendly. The wait is so worth it , you won't be disappointed......

If you need a lunch stop off the A1 near Grantham, come here! Great food & coffee. A fab park for kids near by too.

Love this place. Food is cooked fresh on the premises and Dougie will do his best to cater for intolerances. Recently changed his opening times so now closed Sunday-Wednesday. Open Thursday-Saturday 1030-1530, then opening in evening at 1930. Always busy at lunchtime so advise to get there early. Miss having a cuppa and cake after picking children up from school now. Dougie food is delicious and adventurous; well presented and fresh. Staff friendly and place is kept clean. Well worth a visit.

Great evening bistro meal, food excellent and great value.

Top quality food and service. Able to cater for a large groups of hungry cyclists descending on them and still serve everyone efficiently. Definitely a 5* cafe.

Stopped here for lunch after a meeting at the industrial estate across the A1. Service was friendly and helpful, the food uses high quality ingredients and was most welcome. Would recommend the short detour off the A1 if you're looking for a quality independent establishment to dine in or take out your lunch.

I've known this delightful cafe since it opened a couple of years ago, and frequented it often. When the present owner, Kirk, took over last Autumn and mentioned his 20 years experience cooking fine food and was thinking of opening for a five course set dinner menu (£27.50 pp), one sitting, every Friday night, we were intrigued. Sadly, by the time we got around to calling for a table, he was already booked solidly for the next 10 weeks it had been such a success! We decided to go for broke and book the restaurant for my birthday celebrations in February and we couldn't have had a better night. The food Kirk cooked was absolutely delicious, beautifully presented and perfectly portioned. We were amazed at his skill of turning good, simple, ingredients into delectable dishes - the humble parsnip became a perfectly seasoned and velvety smooth 'Honey-roasted parsnip soup with smoked paprika' - with each course vying to out-do the one before. There was hardly a crumb left on any of the plates. The staff were professional, efficient and choreographed their service so deftly that they even managed to dove-tail the presentation of all five courses to two groups of late-comers (30mins and 1 hour) while the rest of us were completely unaware so that we all ate pudding together at the end of the night. Extraordinary team-work by kitchen and front-of-house. Throughout the proceedings, Kirk took time to host the evening with charm and sensitivity, carefully explaining each dish to us personally before dashing back to the kitchen - all in all a triumph. Thank you all for giving us all such a memorable evening for a bill that was so reasonable it was a pleasure to pay.

Probably the best cup of tea for miles. A beautiful place to go for A drink and a bite to eat. Locally produced food and coffee is from stokes of Lincoln. Bread from the Hambleton bakery. Beautiful flavoured balsamic vinegars, pastas, jams and chutneys. Friendly staff provide excellent service. Due to it's deserved success it can tend to get a little busy and a little too noisy.

My favourite cake and coffee shop! Situated in a village just called Barrowby, just outside of Grantham. Our family love going here on a Saturday afternoon for a lovely cup of coffee and a slice of their home made cakes. The cakes are excellent! Sometimes we make this our stop after a long bike ride, and just before heading home - a perfect treat! The staff are friendly, and a couple even know what our favourite slices are! Great atmosphere :)
