Double Seven in Cambridge

Tiny takeaway / delivery café that does NOT cater for dining in very well. None of the usual heated food trays on the table to keep the food warm, food was served on freezing cold plates and starters and main courses served together.. (the duck starter came out with the rice and the four main dishes) we then had to ask her to reheat them as they’d gone cold! she said this was our fault for not telling her to bring the duck out separately!! When we complained she reluctantly removed the 10% service charge. Extremely disappointed ☹️

Efficient and Friendly take-away. I have been a regular customer for 5 years - and keep coming back Its a slight pain that they are 'cash only' .. but great that they deliver locally for almost free

Ordered a takeaway for home delivery. Took 1 hour 20 minutes to arrive...said within 60 minutes upon ordering. Although everything was hot (temperature) none of the dishes were anything special. We've used this place several times in the past & always found it very nice but today it didn't seem up to it's usual standard...maybe a different chef?? We had 3 dishes that contained prawns...salt & pepper king prawns, king prawns with mixed vegetables (which was more like a chop suey with more beansprouts than anything else) & a special chow mein (which didn't contain much meat). The prawns in each of these 3 dishes were dry & rubbery. The sirloin steak in pepper sauce dish was stodgy & thick & really sickly - we never found that before! The rice was bland & seemed quite hard/chewy. None of the dishes were exceptional but we all liked the chicken omelette & the pancake roll (although very greasy) was probably thr nicest I've tried! With spending almost £80 we were disappointed that we didn't get free prawn crackers either!

Ordered take out delivery at short notice. Delicious pork dishes, delivered hot with crisp rice and vegetables with lovely sauce. Perfect meal for two!

Delicious and amazing. I have been there 7 times :) indoors and take away. Everyone is so friendly from front house to the Kitchen. The menu is exquisite, most importantly when I asked to add more chillies or any queries they have it all. The rice is perfect and all noodles as well as soups. I have to try more dishes The fish tank is relaxing and the smells and aromates. It is like a 2nd family. Love it. Xie xie

A little gem tucked away on cherry Hinton road. Easy to get a table at short notice. The double cooked fish which was delicious and the garlic pork ribs, which was not on the menu, was equally as good. For those who haven't dined at this place, it's your loss.

Ordered through Deliveroo. Didn’t give me a time for when it would arrive, forgot to give me prawn crackers and when I called to say about my forgotten food I was told to refund it and they would give it to me free on my next order! Went to refund and it doesn’t allow me to as the food has already been made it said. So proceeded to tell them that and they said they would call the driver to see what happened and did not get back to me. Egg fried rice was very wet and not a lot of egg. Chicken balls were undercooked. DO NOT RECOMMEND!

Double Seven is our regular Chinese takeaway and always reliable. Kung po dishes very good and the dry aromatic chicken or prawn also excellent. Fast service and while not the cheapest it feels good value for the amount of food and quality. The restaurant is a bit white noise and straightforward decor but often has groups of Chinese students eating there (I assume this to be a good sign). I think some of the negative reviews reflect problems with delivery rather than the food and I really would not listen to the one star reviews. If you can collect yourself it is probably best.

I ordered sweet and sour chicken balls, chicken chow mein and egg fried for my dinner as a takeaway delivery. I was very happy that reviews were amazing which led me to place an order. Upon tasting of the food I was very disappointed with what I got as the chicken balls weren’t cooked very well.. the chicken in the chow mein didn’t taste very fresh and also the rice in egg fried rice weren’t cooked enough as they were like plastic… Please put more love and care in your cooking as people can get food poisoning from it all Many thanks

Authentic Chinese food at a good price, with friendly service. My family are veggie/vegan and are always happy with the selection and quality of the food. We get it delivered and service has always been quick, would recommend.

First time trying a take away from Double Seven. After many disappointing meals from else other places we have found our new favourite Chinese take away in Cambridge. Excellent in all respects: great taste and flavours, large portions, value for money and delivered (exactly) on time. We will be back for more soon.

This is a lovely small family run restaurant with a fantastic section of dishes. Despite previous reviews, I would give this place a 5 star rating. It offers delicious authentically Chinese food which is otherwise lacking in Cambridge. The portion sizes were generous and very reasonably priced. The most notable dish was the chicken with peanuts, it was truly one of the best dishes I have ever had. The staff were very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family.

Love this place, often have lunch from here when I'm in town. Usually full of Chinese student enjoying an authentic meal.

I would give minus 5 if I could. What an utter and absolute abject disappointment of a take away. Avoid at all costs. They charged 6.50 for a box of double egg fried rice, with no flavour, barely eggs and barely the classed weight, weighing in at just over 400g (for a double!). The roast pork "chop suey" was quite literally roast pork in water with bamboo shoots & bean sprouts. Have the "chefs" seen a chop suey by definition? We called them to express our astonishment and disappointment: no comments from them to even understand. Never again—don't make the same mistake we did.

This is my take out chinese of choice in Cambridge! I've had many other disappointing ones nearby but I find this one to be consistently tasty!

I ordered for the first time today and unfortunately I’m very disappointed. One of the dishes I ordered was pork balls and it tasted very fatty. I also ordered pork fried rice and it doesn’t look like it - looked more like egg fried rice. I think they even gave me the wrong rice order for that. It also tasted quite bland and tasteless. Will not be ordering from here again. Total waste of my money. Wish it could be refunded! I wouldn’t recommend especially if you’re new to cambridge.

Very disappointing. Instead of duck in plum sauce we got plenty of burnt butter in sauce. Chicken balls flavourless, rice amount not value for money. The whole meal was not worth what we paid, considering it was more than we would elsewhere and most of it went in a bin. I dobt do reviews but this needs a warning plastered all over

Felt the food wasn't the best Chinese I've ever had. The pork in the noodles was very chewy and the flavour was a little bland. I asked for no onion found several pieces in the main meal.

Horrendous service. Ordered through a takeaway app and the restaurant provide their own delivery service independent from the app. I provided delivery information and telephone number. They claimed they tried to contact me, even though I had not contact from them. I called to see where it was, to be told they would not redeliver the ordered, even though they use their own delivery riders. Would not recommend. Very disappointed.

Best Chinese I've had in about 15 years. Excellent Szechuan food, lovely waitress. The chicken with peanuts and smacked cucumbers were fantastic. Thoroughly recommend.

This is what we got for a chicken dish. How many chicken have they slaughtered to give me 8 feet joints? I don’t usually bother to give any rating, but this horrible which made me very disappointed and I feel I have to say something to warn other people!

Dan dan noodles that'll knock your socks off. Try the salt and pepper king prawns, yum! 4 instead of 5 stars because some dishes are average and the restaurant is not the nicest - but hey I come here for the food.

Over priced, bland and the portion sizes are shrinking. Sauces taste watered down. Used to be hit and miss but not had a decent meal from here in months.

Great food at a great price! Delivery arrived on time and driver was super friendly. Got the Deep fried tofu + veg, squid in black been sauce and veggie spring onions. All tasted great! Would recommend.

Mixed Chop Suey was chicken, bean sprouts and one carrot one prawn. In a funny sweet and sour liquid, curry was ok but not a lot of taste. Both people who are had a bad stomach afterwards, used to be good but I will avoid in future. £25 down the toilet…

Big disappointment. We ordered from Double seven for the first time today. Unfortunately it is also the last time. Crispy duck came whole with bones. It is not usual. It is very difficult to eat. My wife didn’t eat much and she loves crispy duck. One main course was with aubergine and black beans sauce. There is normally nothing I wouldn’t eat but the texture of this dish especially aubergine was not that good at the politest description. Second main course was with squid and I couldn’t recognize squid at all. ;-( Vegetable fried rice had pepper. I have never seen it. I didn’t enjoy it at all the entire rice any way. And we paid about £25 for something we couldt eat. We had to throw away at least half of what we ordered.

Tonight I had a selection. Sweet corn and chicken soup that was passable but not great. (However a good portion size) Honey ribs 8/10 on those the highlight. Special chow Mein was awfull salty no variation no vegetables a very poor specemin. The worst part was undoubtedly the chicken balls. These were soggy fatty and just the worst I’ve ever had. I have a Chinese from external source once a month for many years all over the country this was in the bottom 10% You can do much better close to this place.

The appetiser of crispy duck was pleasant but couldn't taste the main dishes of chef's special fish fillet in chili oil or the shredded beef because of the salt. How much salt do you think you need? It was genuinely revolting. £40 I wish we hadn't spent, won't be using again. Need water.

I have been ordering from here for a while, however in the last few months the quality hasn’t been as good as other Chinese restaurants in Cambridge. We ordered the duck this evening, and it had a strange after taste, they also provided barely any spring onion and a tablespoon of hoisin sauce which is no where near enough for 6 pancakes. I will be ordering from elsewhere from now on as I feel other restaurants provide a lot more for your money!

Extremely poor quality and portions now. I'm not sure what has happened to you since the first lockdown. I understand its hard times for a lot of company's right now, but you need to sort yourselves out fast. Reducing portions and quality will see you lose customers fast. I may of gave you benefit of the doubt once more, until I called for an explanation. You told me the chips are a large portion, not re-heated. And the duck is only a quarter so all in all i have nothing to complain about. Here's the pictures to prove otherwise so you judge for yourself. Please bare in mind the duck is on a side plat, and the chips are on dinner plates. We gave benefit of the doubt since last months poor meals, but wish we hadn't. Enjoy your £37 as its the last time we buy from here. Our order contained: Quarter of duck/ slimy and only filled 3 of the pancake rolls. Shredded chilli beef/ Very dark with a strong taste of Worcestershire sauce. Large chips/ small portion and were obviously re-heated. Chicken balls/ okay in taste, but quite greasy and dark batter. Chow mein/ Good Prawn crackers/ good but paid for (even though we spent £37. Chinese chilli chicken/ good.

Ordered meal through deliveroo at 9pm. I could not track it as the restaurant uses its own delivery drivers. By 10 p.m. it had not arrived and when I phoned restaurant it went to vm saying they were closed. It was too late to order from anywhere else. It amazes me that a delivery meal can simply disappear. This is the worst service possible...Saturday night hangry. The invisible meal had zero flavour and the imaginary beer was lacking in anything. This restaurant should be avoided

Nice Chinese food for a good price. However they serve too much food in my opinion and this is shown when sometimes the quality dips and the food isn't nice. However, apart from that it's nice.

Food is always great there. I definatelly recommend to either stay in or take away. It can sometimes be noisy when exchange students dine in.

So far it might just be the best Chinese food in town, having considered all the visited places so far. They made very nice food in terms of taste, texture, feel, and appearance. Prices are OK for Cherry Hinton, certainly better than in Cambridge centre. The people were very considerate and actually did pay attention to the request to make it very spicy. They prepared what is very spicy for them. Not bad. Overall I am very satisfied with the quality and the "overall everything". I will definitely return there for more and will exercise their free delivery services. If I see any issues I will edit this message. If you see no edits after a long time, that means they keep their quality consistently high. Excellent. I recommend you visit them. No need to make a choice now anymore. The choice has been made. Be pleasantly surprised and see what they can offer.

Too many mushrooms and onions in the curry.Very little chicken.Chicken balls very doughy.As a regular customer we are disappointed.

Good service, and really good food. The chefs and waiter are really nice and friendly! The aubergine minced pork rice, roast duck rice and hot and sour fish soup are my favourites!

amazing traditional Chinese food

We love this place - they serve Chinese and epecially Sichuan food that reminds me of my year in Beijing. The chicken wings with chilli and peanuts, potatoes with vinegar are our favourites, and we also love Kung Po chicken, the spicy squid, prawns in salted egg and the fiery Dan Dan noodles. It's tremendous value too - it's a takeaway with a few table - eat in if you can and enjoy the food fresh from the wok.!

Recommend the Singapore vermicelli and if you sit in, you can have the minced garlic water spinach dish for a more balanced meal! Nice seating area. Clean. Fast service. Always speedy delivery when we are feeling lazy. Happy we live near this place. 👍

I have reviewed Double Seven before, but as a takeaway. Tonight my wife and I dined in. Double Seven was busy, but the staff coped well. Our food came piping hot and was delicious. You will not regret trying Double Seven as a Takeaway or to dine in. Bottom line as always, would we come here again?? YES we would! Thank you Double Seven

Great traditional Chinese food! We three persons ordered four dishes, their tast is just like the tast in China, except one vegetable is different with that from China. I'll come back again when I come back to Cambridge next time.

This takeaway has become our go-to family favourite since my daughter discovered it a couple of years ago. Great food, good price, friendly staff. As someone else said, if you see other Chinese people eating there you know it must be good.

My wife and I moved back to Cambridge in May 2018. Since returning we have been looking for a good Chines diner/takeaway and do you know what “We have found it” The diner is spotlessly clean, the service we received was friendly and quick and the food was hot and scrumptious. The “Double Seven” will be our “go to” takeaway from now on! Any one who gives this diner a low star rating has not eaten here. Was the food good? YES Will we be back? again YES

Excelente comida para llevar. Tienen una buena selección de platos interesantes. Los precios son muy razonables y el servicio de entrega es súper rápido. Mis platos preferidos son: calamar de sal y pimienta, pollo picante aromático, filete de pescado en aceite de chile picante, rodajas de cerdo cocinadas dobles, carne de cerdo desmenuzada con chile encurtido.

We ordered a meal The food was delivered was cold. The sweetn sour chicken balls tasted terrible almost like they had been precooked and reheated My lemon chicken was burnt and chicken was rock hard My rice had no taste to it and was dry. My chips was ok My shredded chicken. Was rock solid and inedible.

The food is below average. I would not visit here again, not comparable with other Chinese restaurants locally.

Mi marido y yo nos detuvimos aquí en el camino a casa desde el cine un domingo a la hora del almuerzo y comimos. Las mesas estaban limpias, había un buen menú y el servicio fue rápido y amable. El único problema es que cuatro ítems entre dos resultan ser demasiado, no es que nos hayamos quejado y comimos casi todo:)

I would never ever come back again and never recommend to anyone. Firstly, the staff are extremely impolite and the place is very dodgy! Paying by card and by Scottish notes are not accepted! This is absolutely a discrimination to everyone from Scotland! The food quality is just ok ish, but more expensive than other Chinese restaurant!

This has been our favourite Chinese takeaway for a while. Today, we were rather disappointed as our favourite dish was very weird. I called to check what had happened: it turned out the chef had changed the recipe. Well, I suppose that is just life, right? Nope! They called back - and 15 minutes later delivered the perfectly prepared dish. The gentlemen didn't even linger long enough so at least I could tip him for the delivery...

Yo explícitamente chow mein ordenados de gambas y pidió que lo hacen con vermicelli en vez de los fideos normales. Nuestro pedido, nos enseñaron nuestros ingresos, no ofrecen una copia. Entramos en casa y cuando la abrí mi llevar yo inmediatamente encontró el color de mi comida diferente a la norml chow mein qué aspecto y no mencionar el terrible olor a quemado de mi comida. No sólo el sabor picante quemado, fue demasiado! En vez de empacar el plato que pedí me hicieron estilo Singapur, que es un plato completamente differente todos juntos. Nunca volveré allí de nuevo.

Really is the best in cambridge, the food is fresh and authentic, and always delicious. Its not generic and greasy like the majority of chinese takeaways that I've ordered from.

Not much competition,but this is probably the best Chinese takeaway in Cambridge. Not overpriced and nice people serving you. Most of it probably from a can, like almost all of them, but it's always cooked well.

Polite service and excellent meal! I order from them very often, I was never disappointed. Once downside is that they can be closed from time to time, which can ruin my evening because there is no one better.

Spicy chicken with rice is the best

We have tried many of the Chinese takeaways around central cambridge but find double 7 to be the best and most consistent for quality and price. Theres plenty of options on the menu and a side chicken balls go down so well!

Normalmente cerdo orden chow mein sin brotes de soja y aceite seco, no fritos. Have been ordering from this restaurant for 3 years, it's is reasonably priced, the food is delicious and delivery is fast. Chow mein dishes can be a little greasy, but have lots of flavour. Wouldn't want to order from anywhere else!
