Dorallt Inn in Torfaen

Went with my husband and Mother in law. All had 3 courses and all cleared our plates. French onion soup & 2 creamy garlic mushrooms to start. All perfectly cooked and delicious. 2 lamb and 1 mixed meat main, a side of cauliflower cheese and a side of pigs in blankets to share. We should have ordered 2 cauliflower cheese between us cause 1 wasn’t quite enough and it was so tasty that we all wanted more. Meat and veg all seasoned and cooked perfectly and topped off with delicious home made gravy. 2 poached pears & a cheesecake for dessert. Absolutely perfect. All the staff are incredibly friendly and efficient and all work very hard. Sunday Lunch is a great addition to the wonderful things you’re already doing with the place. Looking forward to more in the future.

Haven’t been to the Dorallt in many years notice it was under new management with a brand new menu. The food and service was excellent 5 star

Great experience good value and the beef was tender. Wonderful staff they made the visit brilliant. The added bonus was mash and roasted potatoes.

Came last night to try the new menu. The food was amazing all 3 courses. And the staff went above and beyond to make sure our visit was enjoyable. My partner had the mixed grill with kangaroo steaks and wild boar sausages 😋 which was delicious. At the end a complimentary shot of there own home made Baileys. Highly recommend a visit 👌

Had a beautiful Sunday lunch here this week. Fantastic cosy atmosphere. Really lovely staff and the food was fantastic. Also really family friendly. Definitely will be back!

Popped in on the off chance for some lunch, staff were very accommodating, fire was on, lovely atmosphere. Had beef and ale pie with mash and gravy and it was lush. Came quickly and portion size was great. Staff were very friendly and couldn't do enough for us. Will definitely be back,.

Food and service was nice enough , however 5 small meatballs in a small bowl is not really an "adults mains special" for 12.95, clearly ripping people off , would not go back in a hurry.

Found this place by off chance, really surprised when we walked in how clean tidy it was . The staff were so welcoming and helpful. We had coffee and lunch the food was absolutely delicious.

The atmosphere was nice, not too crowded. The meals, especially the specials were very good as were the desserts.

I’ve been to this pub a few times lately and I’ve got to say The food and service has been exceptional every time! They are a very family friendly pub, it’s lovely to be able to sit for a few hours with the kids who play in the park then have a beautiful meal in the lounge. The owners always seem to want to please the customers and always make time to make us feel welcome wether we are having food or not.

Having avoided this pub for a number of years gave it a try as we live nearby. Must say the food was excellent, service outstanding and well worth a visit. Will definitely be going back.

We ordered food to be delivered on a Friday night. We had the Pork belly chunks and Indian Street food. We thoroughly enjoyed it, was so tasty. Would definitely order it again. Delivery was right on time and easy to order via phone call.

Look forward to our meal every week. Always plenty of choice on the specials board, Clint is a fabulous chef. Was quiet tonight because of the no alcohol rule and early closing, such a shame not to support a local business trying to survive through such challenging times. Went as 2 couples last Saturday. Was very impressed with the restaurant plenty of room and a really friendly atmosphere. Very good menu with some specials. We were all very pleased with our meals, the chef is excellent. Will be back very soon

Eaten in the pub every week since the new chef started and had takeaways during the lockdown period. The food has always been top quality, cooked to perfection and very well presented. The specials change every week so there is always something new to try. Andy, Chris and the staff always make you feel very welcome and they work very hard to keep the pub clean and safe during these strange times.

I have been going for sunday lunch here for the last 5 months, also a few evening meals, I 100% recommend The Dorallt lovely home cooked food, especially Sunday lunch, Clint's always been a good chef.The landlord and landlady are lovely, nothing to much trouble, the bar staff and waitresses are lovely too,doing everything right in the current situation with covid. Well done The Dorallt.

The food here is absolutely top notch, Clint, the chef is coming up with amazing dishes each week, especially on his specials board; we just keep having to go back each week for more! Service is excellent too from the friendly staff. A definite 'must' for anyone who hasn't eaten here for a while!

What a pleasurable experience. Went there with the Mrs on a last minute outing for Sunday dinner. The landlady is fantastic and the service staff friendly. The meat and veg was gorgeous and the gravy was better than my mams. Would definitely recommend a visit on a Sunday. The main meals only £9.95 and kids can have a dinner for a fiver. I've lived in cwmbran all my life and experience dinner at most restaurants and it had to be the best I've had in 36 years.

Food took well over an hour to come even though we had it booked weeks in advance. Most of the food was dry and pretty tasteless, would have taken it if it was a 2 for 1 but at over £15 for a main each it was a complete RIP off! Will not eat there again.

Ordered from the early bird menu, had the curry which was very nice, others had the liver and bacon, all said the food was very nice. The food was very good value at £6 for pensioners. The service let you down, we had to ask the waitress to take the dirty plates away when she bought the desserts.

Overpriced microwave food. Overpriced drinks. Decor is like an old persons retirement home"s Day room.

Had the Sunday roast this afternoon at the pub and I could not fault anything! The meat! The Homemade Yorkshire pudding! So good and for £8.95 you cannot go wrong!

.............to eat, as although the website and other information sources state that food is served every evening, we took visiting family there yesterday, which was a Monday, only to be told that 'he has Mondays & Tuesdays off. We'll do food next Monday though cos it's Bank Holiday'. We left and went elsewhere. Won't bother going back, as if they can't be bothered to update the website etc, we can't be bothered either.

Great family and dog friendly pub. We tried the new menu on Friday 19th April, its not a large menu but is refreshing to see an alternative to the usual choice of pub food. I had the Chicken and Prawn Jambalaya, very tasty and spicy. My husband had the Steak Tips which were tender and juicy, both meals were nicely presented. We shared a Belgium waffle, which I’ll definitely have again but next time I won’t be sharing! We had our little dog with us so we sat in the bar, she was spoilt by Andy & staff giving her a few treats so we left with an equally happy pup!

Went here last night, (7th march '19) for a family meal for my daughter-in-law. Twenty two people altogether including some young children. The meals were all very good and there were no complaints from anyone. Would definitely eat here again. Also, the beer I was drinking, Doombar was a great pint! Thanks to all!!

Since The Dorallt welcomed back the Chef Steve, the food has gone from good to brilliant - tasty, plentiful, well cooked and overall well worth it. We are now working our way through the menu and so far everything we have tried has been excellent. If you are stuck for somewhere to go, nice atmosphere, welcoming staff, first class food - give The Dorallt Inn a try.

Haven't been here for a while but good food and beer and friendly staff just like our last visit, can't understand why it was so quiet for a Friday night. Definitely be back soon.

Recently visited the Doralt on a Saturday evening with friends, the smell of the open log fire along with with the old rustic feel of a mountain pub was the perfect compliment to a meal which was cooked exactly as requested. The friendly hard working staff and friendly locals make this pub a must visit.

I was really disappointed when me and my family visited here on a Saturday evening. There was no atmosphere. The lighting was very bright do it didn't feel warm and cosy. It is a pub on a mountain so should be really rustic. The bar is but the lounge was not very nice st all. We ordered drunks which were very expensive and food was pretty awful. My lasagne tasted like it had dairylea slices in it and it wasn't cheap either. I definately don't be returning

Reasonable prices. Good portions. They remember you and what you drink They cater for smokers and well-behaved dogs & families. We love it.

We visited the Dorallt for a Sunday Lunch and was very impressed with the food. The beef was cooked perfectly, plenty of veg and the cauliflower cheese was to die for. We were booked at 3 oclock which was the end of service but the standards did not suffer at all. Would highly recommend a visit!

Went for birthday meal, food was good, bar staff very welcoming and friendly, outside sitting have beautiful view, play area is not suitable small kids.

Went for Father’s Day meal. Chicken dry , pork and beef nice. Very limited veg. All my daughter could eat was potato and meat. Not asked if everything was ok with our meal. Slow service. Sorry won’t be back and would not recommend.

Had food with family after kids sports day and food was amazing especially the steak. Sat outside eating food and then watching the world go bye and kids playing in the pubs park and safely. 👍

Really bad form in this day and age. This was my local years ago when I was able bodied. A hub of the community but only for some.

What used to be a splendid establishment on the edge of the frontier, has now been overun by commoners from the council estates down the road. Disapointing really - as this pub was built for the gentry of Henllys Village in the 1700s, not peasantry and vagabonds. The wife and i visited last Thursday, the first time since 1973 - for Pheasant au' la Toff served with a Goose 'Jus on a symphony of mushrooms - suddenly the mood plummeted when a man walked in dressed like he did a manual job. The wife and I tried to ignore this, but then another catastrophe struck - My wife noticed that out of the window some sort of convenience store had been opened. We left immediately.

1st visit to the Dorallt Inn and it certainly won’t be our last. We had roast beef followed by apple pie & custard. This is the best Sunday lunch we have had, the food was cooked to perfection. The greeting on arrival and the waitress serving us was outstanding. Highly recommend.

Decided on a spot of lunch one Sunday. We didn't book ,just turned up, we were lucky to get a table, but we did, We had a little wait for food as it was busy. We sat had a drink and ordered our roast beef Sunday dinner.

Good value for money, good food with excellent service and really good interaction from the hosts. Overall a very pleasant evening.

Came here as their are new owners . They are fab people we all pre ordered our meals all off us we all had starters which were amazing . A lot off us ordered steak and various other meals which were amazing the steak Diana is wow and the chicken with cheese leek sauce is wow belly pork is so moist .

Came up for Sunday lunch 26/11/17. What can I say amazing food, the beef was gorgeous and the lamb chops were huge and stunning!!!! We will definitely be coming back with the family.

Servida por un joven muy agradable que sirve detrás de la barra, tomó el dinero y también se sirven las comidas y nos cuidaron muy bien. Era parte de un grupo de 7 diferentes y todos de acuerdo tenía la comida era muy buena y abundante. Los dulces también eran muy bonitas y el ritmo era muy relajante. Met our friend there for lunch, with our daughters, they have a new menu which looked good, if a little limited.We all had their customisable burgers which were great and a beautiful cheesecake.

Regular visitors to this establishment because my Wife has never had a bad Steak there. Really good portions - Staff very friendly and the Pub is always clean and tidy.

Beware if the barmaid asks you if you want a double with your mixer unless your prepared to pay £7.50. Shocking!

I went here for my 18th birthday with a party of 24. food was cooked to perfection and service was amazing!! was a bit sceptical due to the low rating but as there has been a refurbishment they proved me wrong. A very friendly place with a lovely atmosphere. would recommend anyone in the area to pop in!

Well to start the hygiene rating is zero but we thought we would try it but it was absolutely terrible food was burnt presentation was not the best we sent food back it was that bad so there is 16 people not going there for food again

16 of us visited for a birthday meal the food was awful! Would not recommend this place to anyone. Gone downhill so much! It's the worst meal we have had in a very long time. Shame really as it used to be very nice.

We have dined at this pub for a few years but it has gone downhill. The food is often burnt and mediocre. I had garlic bread and onion rings which was served upside down to hide the fact it was black on the other side.The lasagne is microwaved. The manager is rude and not welcoming at all. The owner isn't about that often so probably doesn't know how rude his manager is. One of the only good things about the place is that it is in the middle of a housing estate so easy to walk to; but I'd rather pay for a taxi and have decent food and a warm welcome. The young girl who serves the food is the other good factor about the place - she has manners, is courteous and friendly (she's wasted on the place really).

We visited here for lunch to celebrate my grandfathers birthday. It was his choice and was somewhere he was familiar with, so we just went along with it. The restaurant is particularly nicely decorated, it just reminded me of an old mans pub - which I suppose from the bar aspect of it that's exactly what it is. The food is very much frozen food heated, nothing special and not something that you'd necessarily go out and pay for. I wouldn't necessarily recommend or revisit for the purpose of a celebration I have to be honest

It is such a shame that a very good pub has gone down hill , the meals were worth going out for because they were worth waiting for, or choosing from a very varied menu. They do have a car park with steps leading down ,so be careful it can be very slippery.

me and my family have been going here for family occasions for years, this past year we have all said we would never go there again.as im a creature of habit i would always have lasagne or chicken tikka 2 favs of mine! i haev had both recently and would never have them again, the lasagne was so dry it looked like no sauce had been used at all you couldnt even dip a chip, the chicken tikka was not chicken tikka it was tangy and horrible and came with way too much rice so it dried it out.absolutely appalling food, dry, burnt, over cooked, and always takes a while. 2 for 12 option is pointless if youre going to keep reducing the options, drinks are way to expensive at least 30-40 pence more than most places which adds up quickly.used to be one of my favourite places very disappoiting now

We have been customers of the pub for many years and have returned time after time due to the quality of the food.However this visit was very different - a massive let down. We visited as a family of four for my birthday on a Wednesday evening during October 2015. First impression, the bar was covered in around 30 dirty drink glasses despite there being only 2 other customers in the lounge area. Hardly run off their feet....Also noticed that the menu had been significantly reduced down since last visit in July.My husband ordered his usual 10 oz steak - when it arrived it was extremely small and thin, more like a 6oz steak and it was overdone. Me and my son ordered cod and chips as this is our usual dish when dining here. The fish came out covered in mushy peas despite specifically asking for normal peas, the fish batter was pale and anaemic looking and the fish itself was grey. The only consolation was that my daughter enjoyed her meal off the kids menu.We were extremely disappointed with our meals and will not be visiting again. Since the new management took over it a few years back, it has gradually gone downhill and the quality of food shows it.Personally would recommend eating somewhere else.

We came here for lunch, all of us were hungry so we took no time in ordering. Lasagne, steak and breaded plaice were all ordered. All arrived in timely fashion and everyone was pleased, bread and butter was served and all the trimmings for good value. Looks like a very good local pub, everyone appeared very friendly and the price is very family friendly. Would definitely return with the family!

We use this place quite abit during the summer as our kids love the park opposite so it's a great chance for us to get some refreshing cold drinks and food. We've never had any problems, the menu is very good and the food is always top quality.

Been here a couple of times over the last year but doesn't seem to get any better. Went for Sunday lunch a few weeks ago as invited to go. When we got there we was not booked in! They said they where full but squeezed us in on a table on its own. Although the restaurant never got even half full. The food wasn't that warm, we had to ask for extra gravy as 1 boat between 5 wasn't enough, then waited for at least 10 minutes before it arrived. We went again very recently again for Sunday lunch. Again food wasn't very warm, the beef was dry, no boiled potatoes, only frozen roast potatoes. No stuffing to go with the chicken! Again had to ask for extra gravy, they don't seem to understand that 1 won't go around 5 people, which is probably Bisto not proper gravy. By the time you get half way through your lunch it's cold. Not the best food and the waitresses don't come with a smile!

Having been to the Dorallt a few times now, I really think it is a hidden gem! Great views across Newport, friendly staff, good food/beer, everything you want in an Inn! A great place to chat with friends and play some pool as well. Will recommend.

We have friends in the area & Popped in on Saturday for the Dorallts music night, although far busier than we would normally tolerate for eating - We braved it & five of us ate, Food took a while as per utterly rammed at the point of foods arrival, Thoroughly enjoyed none the less, Couple that with the vibrant atmosphere & Stage Hogs - we have a great, unplanned evening! Our friends are local & were previously prompted to tell Trip Advisor if we had good reports, We are firm believers in 'looking after local businesses' Heres us doing our bit.. Very sad that people take the time to write negativity, when the happy, satisfied 99% of people never think to write a good review...

the 10 0z rib eye was supposed to come with onion rings mushrooms and salad , 2 stale sprouts of green no onion rings , the lamb came with gravy and salad ! (if you call it that ) what were they thinking no peas ! very poor standard

After trying most pubs in the area, we chose the Dorallt for a family gathering over the Christmas period, There was a warm atmosphere, Attentive staff & a wide selection of beers to wet our appetite,We opted out of eating, Simply as it was so busy, The two for £12 is what we will try next visit - Certainly a bargain from what we could make out! ;)We certainly are happy to return, After reading reviews on the Dorallt AFTER our visit, We can report no such findings!

A group of friends met at the Dorallt on a Saturday before Christmas, expectant of seasonal merriment and joy. This was not to be the case, the bar staff worked hard and find favour in this review, the landlord however behaved in a fashion reminiscent of the missing link. During a game of pool, said missing link bounded over, knuckles rasping the floor... It appears an empty bottle of spirits, Jack Daniels I believe had been found somewhere on the premise, now obviously as some of us were driving and ordering soft drinks this must have been ours. With a raised aggressive tone, said individual loudly informed us and indeed anybody who was in a three mile radius that we would be instantly band for life. Now I appreciate that livelihoods need to be made and i would not condone underhand tactics to save a few quid and take the p out of a landlord, I also understand simple customer service, and interpersonal interaction, the missing link however does not, well more fool him! We went elsewhere to part with our hard earned and will not be returning in a hurry... All for the sake of simple politness heh ho, his loss.Enter at your own risk

Having worked in the brewery industry, definitely felt like you were being overcharged on beer and on poor quality food and service. This was even confirmed by Clive, the Landlord who whilst drinking in the so called beer garden openly bragged about a huge markup of nearly 10 times the markup on the kiddies snow cones at the local fete! Disgraceful! The best part of the visit was leaving and never returning!

Having worked in the brewery industry, I can honestly say it's the worst pub I have been in, where the drink and food prices are over inflated and poor quality, service is diabolical, no atmosphere, full of fake people you wouldn't trust an inch and the landlord openly states that he'd even ripped off the kiddies at the local fete with ice drink Slushies that he made for 35p charging ten times the price! The sort of place you wipe your feet on the way out. Best advice is drive on past folks.

The Dorallt Inn built up a great reputation as a country pub for an evening of good conversation in good company. Unfortunately following on from the Wales game on Saturday the huge TV screens were left down and every other game or sports news that followed was transmitted throughout the evening - there was no escape!Try to remember that some of us came out to avoid watching TV all evening and restrict the games to the TVs in the bar...please!

We came as a party of 6 on a friday evening, We had not booked prior to coming, luckily it was quiet, Our drinks were very nice with plenty to choose from, We all had a meal, we all opted for the choices from the Dorallts 'Specials' board, food came promptly and was enjoyed by all, we left a tip, and shall definately return!

Had a meal on Friday July 12th, the steak was full of gristle, even the cook agreed, not good value for money. £12.95 for a disgusting pub meal!Returned during the village fate the next day and the owner Clive' attitude was a disgrace and showed dreadful customer service. After being in the queue to be served, the barman started to serve friends first. When we complained the response from Clive was " we are manic get over it".

We both enjoyed a very large rump steak which were excellent value for money and accompanied by rather lush sauces.Quick bar service and lunch arrived promptlyVery happy to visit again :)

Having booked here for 30 people to celebrate a family 75th birthday we were very dissappointed with the food. Although we had no problems with meal availabilty the value for what you had was awful. At around £13 for a steak meal ( which at a resturaunt would be fine but way hefty for a pub lunch!! ) to £10 for a microwaved lasagne! For those that ordered the fish it was rock solid, lasagne is microwaved. Every single steak meal arrived not cooked as requested and even if they did all the sauces came out ten minutes later! All i can say that the chef done well was ruin our family celebration. The dorallts only saving grace were the lady serving at the bar and the gentleman who was in charge on the night as the manager wasnt on duty (convenient! And it was a saturday night). Dissappointed and will not be returning for a meal anytime soon.

Over the last few months to a year the improvement in this place is phenomenal! The new owner seems a great guy!The food quality is outstanding with a variety of starters & delicious main courses to choose from. They serve great ales and the with the price on spirits you can't go wrong! The staff are brilliant, work really hard and are always happy to help. A cosy pub that brings in the country and modern side to henllys. Well worth a visit!

Visited Dorallt on a Monday night. It was not busy as it was early evening, but the food was excellent, good choice of real ales and other beers at the bar.

We ate at the Dorallt on a sunny Friday evening and the place was very busy and had a great atmosphere. You can choose to sit inside or out, but there are no reservations for tables.The food was excellent, as was the choice of draught ales. Although the pub was very busy we had really good service. Most of the main meals were under £10 and the choice was good and varied. The specialist ice creams are very good but are served in a plastic liner inside a tall glass, the reason I mention this is that they are very hard and take a bit of digging to get into them.The pub has a small sloping car park which soon get full. There is some parking nearby.Entrance to the pub is either at the side (although there are steps) or at the front where there is a ramp into the pub. There are only a few inside tables at this level, the majority are up two steps into the main restaurant area.This pub could pose a problem for wheelchair users, especially as there are also no disabled toilets.

Always have a nice meal here. Staff friendly and pub is generally child friendly. Nice outside seating area with views and overlooking kids play area.
