Expected better, salami was off, pasta was cold, special was literally a frozen chicken burger with cold pasta and the lasagna was a swimming pool. Customer service not great either, waiter didnt even know what was on the menu. Very limited menu too. 😮‍💨🤦‍♂️

Me and my work colleagues love coming to Doppio malto for the pizza and pasta dishes here. I adore the carbonara, it’s not too moist, not too dry, it’s just right. Not a big fan of pints but the lovely Colin educated me on IPA’s and I now drink IPA, something I wouldn’t have done previously. The staff are friendly and always up for a laugh with you which is nice. Good to see you guys open again!

Had a seat where i was able to view everything going on within the restaurant so i'm able to comment what I saw. 1. Opened on a bank holiday with new employees. (Not a great start in which the management acknowledges). 2. Male management basically going down throat of new female staff, yes you're busy but show them the ropes. 3. Lots of food touching (lots of fingers in pizza, sauces) before serving to customers, server, head chef, male management. (Note: i understand the acting head chef part checking food but not others). 4. Male management pulling faces and getting annoyed behind a customer leaving the premises when they were rushing to serve food. 5. Employee at the start let us know it was going to be 25 min for food before entering (which was fine) however 1hour+ went by before we were served & basically wasn't a good portion size for how much the meal was. 6. Burger - got served with "bacon" basically just fat. 7. Pasta was low temperature/small serving/ watered down/ not really any taste. 8. Careful when checking your bank as it shows the money is drawn out in Edinburgh at a loctation that is permanently closed .... rather than Gateshead MetroCentre. Good notes 1.The female staff were friendly & they did try to ease the tension of complaints that were piling up in the time we were there. 2. 20% discount for the meal however was still not happy all in all. Improvements Needs more communication with management/staff on timings. Professionality. Stop touching food. Kitchen, serving proportions & better meat. Adjust pasta sizes or smaller bowls needed to create illusion of portion size. Hope the girls get by fine.

Really poor experience. Just not good enough. Everything seemed so utterly chaotic, and whilst it was quite busy, it wasn’t heaving. Food was subpar. Two burgers and chips that looked like they’d been hurriedly thrown on a plate which came after nearly an hour. The cokes we were served looked 3/4 full too. Was told this was a standard measure - but I also saw barmaid put more ice in when her colleague took it back. At least own it beforehand. It comes across as disingenuous and felt short changed really. At £3.50, and when our original choice wasn’t available - wasn’t good enough. Too much competition within a 30 second walk to not be good as a bare minimum. Won’t ever be back I’m afraid. By the end, we genuinely felt a bit exhausted and disappointed by the whole thing. We paid the service charge through not wanting to stay a minute longer more than anything.

Due to the awful weather , the metro centre was so busy. We were initially told a table would be free in 25 mins, even though it was half full. We ordered food and waited nearly an hour, to be told its coming soon...it didn't, so we left. As we were leaving a lady did say sorry but the kitchen is very busy. We should have been told this when we sat down.

One of the worst restaurants I have ever been too. We waited 50 mins before our food arrived & it wasnt even that busy. When it did arrive, it was literally cold & burnt at the same time... Prices are outrageous & they automatically add a tip to the bill. Wont be going back It literally couldnt have gone any worse.

Dreadful food! Not surprised they’re closed. Over priced rubbish.

Been a few times pizza is great

Only went here as other food places were really busy! Should've realised when it was empty but thought we'd give it a Try!...Front of house was a friendly enough guy...3*!...We ordered a large Rosè & small Rosè & I ordered a Blackcurrant cordial & he asked Water or Soda I asked for water!...He came back & they didn't have Blackcurrant Cordial! He asked would I have Orange Cordial so I said OK! It came as Orange & Soda (I don't drink fizzy drinks!)...He asked is there a problem & he changed it to Orange Cordial & water..So all OK! My friends ordered the Chicken with veg (£17.50) & one had peppercorn sauce & other had Blue cheese...I ordered the Pork Rib (£16.50)...Both their chicken was Very dry & the Blue cheese sauce was burnt! She'd already poured over part of the chicken breast aswell...I tasted it & the bottom of the small pan it came in was black on the bottom...She asked to change it which he did but really should have replaced the chicken aswell as it had burnt sauce over it!...My ribs were only warm not hot & the potatoes tasted of OLD BURNT oil!...Left an awful taste in my mouth! I couldn't eat them...The spinach that came with it tasted the same...It was disgusting!...You can see by the pictures that the ribs were supposed to be in a BBQ sauce but the sauce was gravy AGAIN with the oily taste!...My friend asked for Vinegar they didn't have any of this either!...i asked for a toothpick they didn't have any but a young lad came over with cocktail sticks for us!...They added a 10% service charge & the food on it's own was just under £60...(The drinks were paid for separately)...My friend paid for her meal with her card & he asked me "did I have a calculator to work out what we needed to pay each"! As we paid separately!...All the time he was 'Cleaning' the table next to us 'muttering' ...there was PLENTY of empty tables in the whole Restaurant to clean...He was listening to us talking! I'm not surprised...It was disgusting the whole meal! I said if they ask us was everything OK I'll tell them exactly...Now EVERYWHERE asks "Was everything OK? Did u enjoy your meal?" But he NEVER said a word!...We were so tired & couldn't be bothered to make a fuss!...We just paid & left!...Be warned Do NOT go...then you won't be disappointed!

Been sat at the bar with an empty drink for 20 mins for the only staff that was visible came to serve me. And if you ate redding this and thinking well they could have been busy the entire place is empty

We will be skipping Doppio Malto next time we are in the Metro Centre. Slow service, uncooked food. When an "Italian restaurant" cannot cook a pizza properly or pasta. And the staff are so non plus about the food issues. With the response of "we will just heat it for you". Yeah skip this food russian roulette establishment. Zizzi is around the corner or wetherspoons.

Appalling - I would give zero stars if it was an option. Ordered the Arancino Rosso for starters and after a long wait it arrived - cooked on the outside but still frozen in the middle!! I let the waitress know who took it away. No acknowledgement, no apology, nothing, just ignored it. Terrible food, terrible service Avoid unless you like overpriced freezer food that they can’t even be bothered to heat through

Restaurant owes credit to its refurb team as the restaurant looks nice and with it being new this pulled me and a few others in. Other than that when talking about the food the pasta was undercooked, burgers tasted like salt in a bun and service was diabolical , it took 2 and half hours to serve 2 courses and food was genuinely shocking. Through 4 people ordering 2 courses not one of the 8 dishes was even remotely ok. If they make it open through 2024 it will be a miracle. I never write reviews but felt compelled to here.

Food was extremely average and disappointing. But the server was incredibly unfriendly. I would probably never go here again by choice.

Hot food, delightful food! Friendly staff! You can tell the old manager is back as the place is back to its former fabulousness.

Personally wouldn't eat here again. Had a lovely previous experience on our last visit. Food wasn't cooked to standard and took over hour for my friends food and overall mix up with orders.I would avoid all together.

I have been told they have recently replaced the entire management team, kitchen and floor staff. Therefore I have decided to give this place a try, given the review of this place was majority poor.... We arrived at the restaurant Friday at 7pm, the seating area was half full. The waitress ( I think she is called Vanessa?) greeted and took us to our table. We ordered lemonade and ice tea for drinks, and decided to skip the starter and jumped to the main course. The pizza was one of the best pizzas I have tried, I'm very picky with my pizza, not because of the toppings or sauce but the base itself. I hate pizza which has a thick dough, they needed to be thin crust and crunchy, just like the pizza the Italians do! The chicken broccoli risotto however was a little bland for my liking. I think because I had pizza before the risotto and the pizza had pancetta which overcame my taste palate for risotto. Doppio Malto is famous for their unique craft beer, I am not a beer guy but I'm glad I tried this honey scented beer with a bitterness aftertaste. - it's definitely something different! The staff was friendly and service was great. Vanessa kept checking on our table to make sure we are happy with the service. Thank you! I highly recommend the pizza menu if you also like the crust to be light and crunchy!

Went to restaurant 5 days ago for a table of ten and the restaurant stated they could not provide table . When clearly there was a lot of tables empty . There excuse was the section was not open . There was tables in the section which was open but again they said they did not have enough staff to cope. Which is very disappointing. What restaurant refuses customers a table. I clearly believe it is the manager responsibility to make sure enough staff is in when opening restaurant to public. Would on been and easy £450 - £490 bill .but clearly they did not want the business. Which is a bit sad as the food is good as been before .

Looking for somewhere to eat on a late Wednesday afternoon. Myself and a friend decided to try this place for the first time, and we are both glad we did. Probably among the best Italian food we have had in the metrocentre. My friend tried one of the beers and said it was very nice and went well with the meal.

A sharing plate came and some pieces were still frozen in the middle the 3 drinks we ordered were nice sent food back and then had the audacity to charge £4.60 service charge. Not a happy customer.

Honestly I was imagining better Italian food. Pizza was inedible to eat. Pasta it’s a bit better but still not enough. I would prefer eat anywhere except here.

Walked through the restaurant area spotted this place so we gave it ago had to wait so played pool with my daughter which is good . I got a carbonara which was different to what I've had before the sauce was watery tasted ok but didn't look very good , my wife and daughter got the lasagna was ok but like my carbonara it was small portions , had a garlic bread with cheese which was very nice and some garlic wedges but these were more like small potatoes. Was ok but would not return.

Got our starters. Nothing special. Main came out whilst starter was still on the table. Food had been forgotten, chips where cold. lasagna had been microwaved. No table service was given such as asking if our food was okay or we would like anything else/more drinks.

Vile Would not recommend Food , drinks, service and company could all be improved. Would not return or listen to anyone who suggests here as a nice birthday lunch , infact, probably a red flag in itself 🚩

Quite quiet when we arrived, seated relatively quickly but that was where the adequate service ended. Took a while to take the drinks order, then a significant wait to receive them (and then the order wasn't right). Waited a long time for someone to take the food order, and then it was only because we asked if we could actually order. The five or so staff seemed keen on chatting amongst themselves and to the kitchen staff than actually waiting tables. Food was average at best, the pizza not actually round, maybe 12" long as advertised, but only about 8" wide and the 24" pizza was just two of these weird long bois. Beer was ok, probably better than a regular chain restaurant, but Italy isn't renowned for its beer so "ok" is as good as it really gets.

Can’t rate the food as it never arrived. The waiter took our order and didn’t put it through, so we sat for 40 minutes waiting for food that was never going to come. Between waiting for the table and non-existent food it was the biggest waste of an hour. We weren’t even offered an apology from the waiter, instead he stormed off leaving another member of staff to apologise on his behalf.

Me and my girlfriend were left ill after after our food , burger was nothing more then a burger with a few leaves on top. And the carbonara was like rubber. Would not recommend, it was the only place in the motro centre without a wait for a reason !

Food is awfull dont buy the 8 pound meals you get what you pay for. Awfull chips like fast food and small boring portions. The soft drinks came to ,,12 pounds for 2 never again

First visit today with my family , very disappointing as waiter was extremely rude and obviously did not want to accommodate our booking. He said there was a 15 minute wait to order, I said that was fine and then when we tried to wheel our tiny grandson into the very spacious restaurant he said we had to leave the pram at entrance! This is bizarre for an Italian restaurant as having lived in Italy for many year's most Italian restaurants are very happy to accommodate families, especially babies. I said it was not possible to leave the pram at the entrance as the baby was sleeping. This establishment was very empty so I am at a loss as to why business would be turned away! thankfully we were welcomed at a very nice Mexican restaurant a few doors away who was more than happy to welcome our family. Very disappointing service and will never return!

Very much a waste of money - staff did not seem like they wanted to be there and were not friendly at all and the food was well below average. The cheese on the pizzas that myself and my partner got was not melted and lumpy (which was unpleasant to say the least) and was like when you try and melt bagged grated cheese from a supermarket, my pizza also came quite cold. We were told there weren't any meatballs for my partner's pizza when ordering so he asked for ham instead - the pizza then came with not very well cooked meatballs *and* ham (which we were charged for despite them saying it was okay to swap). We both felt quite ill after eating, leading to us both having upset stomachs and my partner throwing up soon after (within 30 mins of leaving). The 10% service charge warning is placed so you will only see it on the way out and we weren't notified of it, plus our bill was handed to us folded up in a way that was very difficult to open (all while having the card machine in front of us before having a chance to read the check), it felt very misleading. Really, really disappointed and won't be returning. Absolutely awful. We would have complained to the manager while there but we both felt terrible and just wanted to leave. Would not recommend in the slightest, wish I could have my money back

Took my partner and two daughters. Pizzas were good for the kids but two adult burgers were awful, bland and poorly cooked. I ordered a cheesy garlic bread and the manger brought one without cheese. He argued with me to the point I said, take it away, it’s not what I ordered. Eventually it came back with cheese on. Cost my nearly £100 and wish I’d never gone. Very poor food, lovely waitress but the guy serving, possibly the manager, was atrocious. They also auto added 10% service charge. Rather go to a fast food place.

First time here, wouldn't come back. Staff and service was ok. Had the sharing starter which was just a biege fest...bland and overpriced. Then had the pork ribs. Beer gravy had far too many peppercorns. And I didn't get my wedges as stated on menu. Partner had a pizza which was wet. The sundried tomatoes must have come out of the jar, hence the pizza being wet. 67 quid not well spent.

Attentive waiters. Poor beer served in only 1/2 pints GNOCCO FRITTO Small fried pizza dough pillows with thinly sliced roast pork belly and Grana Padano cheese sauce. Turns out it was deep fried over cooked dough stuck together with a few slices of cold ham. Carbonara with roast belly pork. Main meal was very hot but the most bland thing I have ever tasted no pepper or Parmesan offered and the tiny pieces of meat were tough. The arrabiata was too oily and just tasted of chilli. We won’t be back with all the Italian choices around

Lunchtime Wednesday. Asked to sit inside but was told the inside of the restaurant was closed so had to sit in a booth on the street. We've been here before a year ago & had some amazing burgers which were smashed patties & really delicious. Ordered a burger again this time & it was really thick & tasted like corned beef. It's obvious they're using meat which has a filler in it. Lunch menu was £8 but with the fries it came to £12.50 & the evening menu is £13 with fries so really not a good lunch time deal. As soon as we had finished the plates were cleared & then they brought the bill. No offer of coffee or dessert. We paid & left & upon leaving we saw a poster saying they add a 10% service charge & we were never advised of that & unfortunately didn't look at our bill when we paid. We'll not be coming back. It was not an enjoyable experience.

Menu on wall by entrance does not replicate the menu at the table and leads to confusion, too many items on menu not available, ordered for a Table of 5, only 3 meals turned up, after 15 mins, staff couldn't tell us when the other 2 meals would be ready this preventing a family eating together, portion sizes are like that from a children's menu, we got up walked out and refused to pay but happy to leave my details should they wish to report me to whoever for failing to pay, however this was after requesting the bill for the 3 meals that turned up but staff were unable to produce said bill. as a family we can't afford to go out often, thank you so much for the worse experience I have ever had whilst eating out.

Came to doppio malto with hopes of some good italian food and drinks. However this was not the case, when ordering drinks we had not decided yet and asked a couple more minutes. It took almost 10 minutes from them to return to take our order. My girlfriend ordered lemonade and they were out of lemonade so assumed and brought over an orange drink instead of asking if she wanted something different. We ordered focaccia which was quite nice however, we were not sure if it was the one we ordered. When the mains came, my girlfriend had ordered italian sausage with sides. Instead out came a pizza, the waiter had clearly misheard her order and then said that she can have it instead? Even though it definitely was not what she ordered. Assuming she might just eat it. As well the portion sizes are not big enough if you are just planning on just having a main meal. Would not return due to poor service and not great food.

Went here for some lunch with my partner. Starters came one without any sauce (that was stated on the menu) after asking foe the sauce the manager brought some over. For it to be the wrong one. And after asking again still wrong. The other starter also had the incorrect sauce Drinks didn't arrive till we had to ask again for them, during our mains which we had almost finished at this point. Then the manager brought out our mains whilst we were still eating our starters. When the mains came back out around 10 minutes later the pasta had gone hard due to being left on the heat lamp. After speaking to someone else it turned out that they didn't have any of the other sauce available. But no one decided to tell us this during any of our meals. Food was nice but left a bit to be desired for the overall experience. Won't be going back any time soon

Best Italian restaurant in the area. Food was hot and super delicious. Staff very attentive. Have been telling friends and family how great our food was. Will definitely be back.

Very nice stylish look for a restaurant, but that's the only positive. Table booked for 4 on a Saturday night, only had 3 sets of cutlery, didn't seem that busy. Tried to order an item, but weren't told at the start that 6 things were unavailable. Can't just make a meatball? Pizza Salamella was a dry flatbread with tomato puree and 6 pieces of sausage on, chips loosely adorned on top after cooking. Forgotten side order of onion rings turned up 5 minutes later, tasting of nothing. The Zingy beer was OK so that's the only reason there's a food star + It wouldn't let me give less. Seemed like there were other customers waiting a very long time to be seen at the front as no-one was present. My mate got a literal can of coke (£3.50) direct from a multipack, I actually find that one funny looking back. My worst experience at a restaurant I've ever had, still annoyed the morning after, hence writing a review, never left one for anywhere else. I feel aggrieved that I paid for it but that's on me.

Used to be good and visited many times. This time we were told there was no diet drinks ordered a bottle of water which was opened prior to being brought out and tasted like tap water. Meals not served together and had to start eating in order for them not to get cold. Asked for a steak medium rare and it came out extremely well done came back rare. Not impressed by the new menu now more restricted choice. Only noticed sign about service charge being included half way through the meal. There seemed to be a lot of new staff and very few of the staff left who had been there on our previous visits. We will not be returning.

The food was mediocre at best. Our margarita pizza was soggy with what appeared to be, and tasted exactly like, tinned tomato juice as the sauce and very sparing mozzarella on top. Neither myself or my daughter could eat them. Also they automatically add a 10% service charge to your bill and there are no notices anywhere visible on entering the restaurant. The only notification we found of this was an A4 sheet stuck to the side of a static vehicle used as decor which was on the way out of the restaurant. Save your money and your palette and go somewhere else like Ask Itallian or Bella Itallia

Nice looking place, excellent food. Service was great, chat and recommendations by our server Aaron were fantastic. Beer I had was lovely and the overall value for money was great.

Arrived for a family meal to celebrate parents' anniversary. Was seated quickly and drinks orders took quickly. Some minor issues with drinks - my sister ordered a peach ice tea and received a lemon one (even though it said peach on the receipt) and the glass I was given with my water was a bit dirty and smelly - not the nicest. After receiving drinks and ordering starters, the waitress told us 2 of the starters we wanted were not available. Other options were not possible due to one member of our party being gluten intolerant and 2 (including myself) being picky eaters due to autism (texture sensitivity). She apologised for not telling us at the beginning before we ordered drinks. We were also not asked at the beginning if we had any allergies or requirements - something that has been asked at other restaurants I've been to, but a simple mistake. Myself and my sister ordered a plain garlic bread to share for starters, and everyone else received their starter with no issue. Our garlic bread arrived with cheese on top - we both have a sensitivity to cheese so were unable to eat this, hence asking for one without. For mains, our courses were massively mixed up - my mam, who has a gluten intolerance, was served a regular pasta with the wrong sauce, and I was served a pasta with the sauce my mam was meant to have. When I corrected the server, he just stared at me - no apologies for the mixup, just said he would swap it. We eventually received the correct orders, but they were all given at different times, so my sister had nearly finished her food before I was given mine. Also, the server put cheese on my sisters pasta after she said no when he asked if she wanted cheese (which she had to peel off the pasta once melted), then my mam was not offered cheese at all. My pasta (pomidoro) was bland, barely any flavour to it and no salt available on the table. Everyone else's meal was average, though no one liked the cured ham. Also, they had added the side we ordered to my boyfriends meal (which came with his meal anyways), so we had to re-request this side - thankfully, we were not charged extra for this. Finally, we received the receipt to see our total was £12 more than it should have been (we added up the total before receiving the bill). Turns out that the OPTIONAL service charge had been automatically added to our bill without it being mentioned/asked - we only found out about this being optional after re-reading the receipt. We asked for this to be refunded - usually we would leave a tip, but after the shocking service and average food, we didn't feel it was deserved. 100% will NOT be returning here. The only reason it got 2 stars instead of 1 was because my boyfriend said his starter and main were lovely.

Great food served quickly and the staff were prompt and friendly. I'd highly recommend the spicy chicken pizza and Onion ring sides!

Walked in as a party of 7 at 5.30 on a friday afternoon. Got seated fine and the service couldn't have been better. Really attentive staff and the food was lovely!

Brilliant service, great food and the server was absolutely wonderful with the kids! Great atmosphere and food was delicious, should definitely try out!

12.20pm, not busy at all but they got the Drinks order wrong, food order was wrong, far too much tomato sauce on the pizza, chicken was cooked well, tasty skin on fries but no skin, just fries, chicken was a small portion.

Worst customer service, store manager don’t bother about the customer and never ask what else you want. If we call them for food they simply ask do you want bill, worst hospitality. There were two tables only occupied when we were there , and they didn’t serve on time when we asked. I was served by store manager, I couldn’t imagine how his subordinates will be.

Been here twice. Only spent 5 mins in total in both visits. 1st time the card machine wasn't working so didn't even get sat at a table. 2nd time we got seated and asked for drinks before I'd even took my coat off. So I asked for a non alcoholic lager / beer. Was told no So a diet coke sorry no Diet pepsi or pepsi max no sorry. We have water or diet iron bru. So we opted for the iron bru . The server left and we both looked at each other and said let's go somewhere else. As we passed the server that took our drinks order I said cancel our order we going elsewhere. All I got was OK. There was no explanation of why there was no diet coke / pepsi options. Or even a non alcoholic drink . So we won't be visiting a 3rd time as from other 1 star reviews we can see its always like this. The odd 4 and 5 star ratings have clearly hit lucky.

Visited here today with my daughter and 6 year old grandson. We arrived as it opened, showed to our table and once we sat down we were told they didn't have the following to order Sirloin steak Ribs Meatballs Pizzas Garlic bread We ordered Chicken burger which was served cold on its own , no mayo as stated on menu. We asked for a side of fries which we received and also served cold. Asked for manager who kept going off to speak to whoever in regards to above to be offered 20% discount off our bill This was not good enough, we will not be returning and would strongly advise others to avoid too.

Sign outside advertising an £8 lunch menu, clearly meant to entice passers by. It worked. But what’s this? The lunch menu isn’t on today?? Then maybe take the sign down at the door! Snakey tactics to trick customers is poor form. Will not be visiting again.

Went to this restaurant with my husband. Got to say we will never go back again! We were sat for a while to be served, I eventually had to ask if we can order. The food was bland my husband got steak which he asked for medium rare it was well done, had to ask for it to go back and replaced. My baguette was ridiculously over priced £15 for what it was it was basically dry chicken with tomato’s, cheese and rocket I could have made it better myself!

Well,I wish we never bothered. I understand weekends are busy, but there is no excuse for the lack of poor service and cold food. When we arrived, we were seated quite quickly, but had to wait a while for a drink order. Me and my partner ordered 2 pints and 2 juices for the bairns. We waited for about 10-15 minutes and got told the pump was broken and they can’t do pints of beer, so had to order something else. We ordered our food and got told we couldn’t order the baby-back ribs due to don’t have any. So had to order something else. We waited for about 15 minutes for our drinks and when they arrived it was only the adult drinks and no kids drinks. Got told they will sort it out straight away. We waited for another 10 minutes and had to ask another member of staff to bring the kids their drinks. After around of drinks, we asked to order another round of drinks and asked if the beer pump was working. We got told we could of had a different choice of beer, which we were not told about or offered. My son asked about his food and the waiter said he will check on it. The drinks came and got the order wrong, ordered a pint of beer and got a half, a white wine spritzer and got a glass of white wine and a bottle of lemonade…so sent back. The food come, my partner ordered onion rings for extra with his steak and it didn’t arrive with the rest of the food, so had to ask 2 people to sort it out. I ordered the lasagna and I had to sent it back due to being cold in the middle and told them I did not want another and nothing else. I was given another lasagna, which I did not want. We asked about the onion rings again. My partner and the kids finished they meal and was just waiting on me to finish..The onion rings arrived. We quickly finished up and asked for the bill. The bill came very quickly and got over charged for drinks that we never had. PLUS there is a 10% service charge on the bill which I was unhappy to pay with such a bad experience and poor service. We spoken to the manager and he was very apologetic and offered us a voucher, which we declined due to don’t really want to come back. We asked about the service charge and he Said there is a notice at the main entrance. We told he what we though and left. On the way out, we looked for the notice about the 10% service charge but nothing…. I will not be coming back. I have had better food and service from other places.

Genuinely one of the nicest places to eat that I've been in a while. We came here instead of ASK Italian to shake it up a little as the menu felt less generic. Boy were we pleasantly surprised! The service was lovely, we felt genuinely looked after, and the food was incredible. Perfect portion sizes and wonderfully tasty. I will be returning to Doppio Malto very soon. Absolutely delicious and I would highly recommend!

DO NOT GO HERE!!!! This experience got worse as the time went on, Firstly we booked a table that was not ready when we arrived this was on top of not a single soul was dining (should have avoided then), so heaven knows what staff were doing, then we were greeted with sorry but there is no chicken, are they kidding, no flippin chicken, We ordered our meals and the sirlion was basic with chips that were dry, my partner ordered some sausage dish but they were extremely salty and dry to a powdery texture, there were some pizzas ordered which looked good but were also poor, and a cheesy garlic bread, and to top it all off there was a service charge sneakily put on the bottom of the bill that I paid before realising, that is THEFT in my book, the manager never mentioned and I didn't agree to it, absolutely livid from start to finish, Raging even writing this review.

Absolutely unreal food, service is brillian and the wait or Aaron was great.

Wish we hadn't set foot in the place. Quite possibly the worst restaurant I have ever eaten in. We ordered a Margarita pizza, 2 burger meals and the half rack of ribs. The toppings just slid off the Margarita pizza when it was picked up. The burgers were dry and tasteless. The ribs were disgusting. I wish I took a photo of the presentation of the meal when it came out. The ribs were just bones with fat and had a funny smell and taste. The potatoes were greasy and the side of gravy looked like dirty dish water. We told the waiter that the ribs were inedible and he took it off our bill. We paid for the rest of our order but i wish we hadn't. Feel like I've been robbed of £50.

Ordered ribs with a side salad and daughter ordered a pizza with fries, sides came first, 15 mins later waitress arrived to ask if we had finished? Advised we hadn't ate yet as food still missing, waitress walks off and didn't go find food just went on the wander, managed to pull a guy named callum who went to Check on food, came back advised that the chef had overcooked the ribs and had to redo, ribs eventually came out which appeared to be 3 bones with fat attached totally inedible, callum apologised and removed from the bill. Won't visit again, totally disorganised, chefs who can't cook and kids as staff is a recipe for disaster.

We came from the big city for some business,we decided before catching our train to have a quick dinner at one of the many places that are in the Gateshead shopping center,this place is very nice,great selection of beers,the food was average,the pizza was not the usual shape it was a rectangle?!….only exception was my spaghetti were outstanding really tasty,the service was like from a fast food (I felt they were really confused)!!,I’d go back just to eat the pasta and drink a beer !!!

Went to go to this ITALIAN restaurant for them to turn around and say they have no pasta left at 6pm. Mega mega mega fewming

Ended up walking away and going somewhere else. We stood and waited at the sign and staff were just watching us from a far polishing the cutlery looking at us… Not good.

We went for a birthday meal no pizza calzone no mozzarella no coffee machine very disappointed

One of the worst places I have ever ate! From the start the service was awful, staff did not want to be there and they made that clear. Starters got brought out to us which were wrong and at first got told that’s what we had ordered then after explain what we got realised they were wrong. Due to the misunderstanding we then got told the starter would be free which didn’t get took off the bill. Onto the main dishes the chicken seemed to be very dry but not cooked and got served to us on a plate with it still pink! Avoid at all costs!

Service was poor and a lot of items on the menu were unavailable. When the food came, I have to say it was the worst food I’ve had ever. We ordered 5 meals and had to send 4 back as inedible. Two pasta dishes with uncooked chewy pasta. Waiter tried to suggest it was “al dente”! I know pasta and it was undercooked!! Lasagne was mushy and smelt off. The burger dry and tasted bad. The chicken supreme al funghi was passable but no mushrooms in the sauce. When we complained the manager was pleasant and acknowledged there had been a few complaints that night so took the cost of the meals off the bill which was appreciated. We won’t be back and would advise others to avoid.

This place has been in the metro centre for around a year now, but this is our first visit. Not busy at all when we arrived just before 6pm on a Friday evening. We were seated quickly and drinks orders taken quickly. There is a large variety of beers, cocktails and soft drinks on the menu, however at £3.50 for a soft drink they are a little expensive. The food menu is large and varied, and the portion sizes are huge. I won't write the Italian names but I had the nduja burger....unfortunately it wasn't great 4/10. The burger needed seasoning, and the nduja was a sort of paste type texture with some dry red cabbage, it really needed some sort of sauce. My husband had a chicken dish, he said the chicken was ok but the wedges that accompanied it not great. My daughters pizza (adult menu) was absolutely huge, easily could be split between 2, she liked it, I didn't try so can't comment. We did have the garlic focacia for starter and this was really tasty. Food service was fast, however we didn't get a return visit to ask if we wanted more drinks despite finishing before the meal. The restaurant itself is nicely done, I imagine it would be very noisy when busy as there are alot of tables in there but perfectly fine when we were there. There are 2 table football tables and a pool table near the bar...free to use which is a nice touch, we enjoyed a game there whilst my husband took the 3/4 unfinished pizza back to the car, boxed up when our plates were collected. Not an unpleasant experience just not somewhere I would return.

The Doppio Malto staff were amazing! Went to dine in with a reservation on Sunday, however the their tills weren't running which meant they couldn't pass KOT's to the kitchen or even generate bills. Instead of turning us away, they were great enough to seat us and even comped our meal (because we reserved our table way in advance). The food was amazing and the pizzas are baked fresh with amazing flavour! I highly recommend Doppio Malto for the fresh pints, food and quality of service from the staff!

Really poor experience today. The chicken was so dry it was inedible and we asked for the suprema ai funghi and there wasn't a mushroom in sight! It certainly wasn't a mushroom sauce, consistency of a thin gravy and tasted just of rosemary but the waiter didn't own up to the error and tried to claim the mushroom sauce sometimes didn't have mushrooms in it! He claimed that they were replacing the sauces on their menu and they would be better (bit late for me then). I don't think this was truthful, I think they made a mistake on our order but bluffed their way out of it. I wouldn't ever go back and wouldn't recommend it.

Not one to leave a review but the food was cold on my girlfriend burger and chips and with the pizza all the cheese and everything was just all coming off was not nice at all

An absolutely wonderful experience. Wonderful staff, beautiful food. They were able to ask the chef about allergies. The drinks are lovely too. Not too expensive and the kids meals are brilliantly portioned!

Disappointing. Very slow service. Decidedly average food that obviously sat for a while before being brought to the table. Long waits between being seated, orders being taken and orders served.

Absolutely great service from Danka the Brace Fuoco is well worth the price fills you up no end
