Excellent food and not too expensive

Really the best Gluten Free fish and chips ever. Such a cosy, nostalgic wee spot and the food is so delicious. Can't rate it enough.

I came with my family for dinner. It was my son birthday. Busy place, but we was served very quick. Food was delicious and portions a big. My husband had steak and he said the best steak in town. My kids also left empty plates. We really enjoyed that evening in Doc's restaurant. Thank you to all staff

We went to the Curry Night yesterday and had a great meal. The sharing menu was fantastic, lots of variety of interesting flavours. The chef took time out to tell us about all the dishes. Service was excellent, the place is spotless. Will definitely be back. Highly recommend.

Excellent visit to Doc’s whilst on business. I had the fish and chips which was excellent and my colleagues had various curries which they said were very tasty. The chef came to have a chat which was great and the customer service was very good. Would definitely recommend if you visit Newcastle.

Doc’s is a great place for a tasty meal with friendly service . We waited on a Saturday night peak time for 1/2 hour but it was so worth it - thanks guys

Cups weren’t clean Food was overcooked Hot chocolate was literally just water Staff were insanely rude and took their time serving us Stood chatting while customers were waiting You could visibly see the upset look on customers faces Do NOT recommend

Fish and chips are a must, if you have room seafood chowder. Simple the best in Ireland or UK.

This was my first time visiting Docs with my young family, and it was a great experience. The service was fast, and the staff were so friendly and accommodating, making us feel very welcome. The food was delicious, and the decor created a warm atmosphere. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit and will definitely be back soon.

I went with my husband and four children. I have one child who is a vegetarian. On the children's menu the only option available to her was tomato pasta. The adults menu had very little vegetarian items to choose from they did however have vegetarian lasagne I asked the server could we possibly have a kids version of this her response was a one worded no. I understand that they may have been pre served into adults portions. I then asked could I have battered chick coujons again a one word answer no. Going forward I would like to suggest a better vegetarian options for both adults and children and maybe a bit more of compromise from the staff or at least a bit more than a one worded answer. We spent alot of money for a lunch . The food was OK just OK. We were never asked was everything OK did we need more drinks or would we like a dessert. Overall dissapointing.

Really nice place, friendly staff and good food. It can get very busy so be prepared to wait a while after ordering your food BUT, your meal will be well presented and very tasty.

Waited nearly half an hour too be seated waited an hour for food and drinks the staff couldn't cope never had beef burgers skinny fries and sauces would not rush back

Fish and chips are delicious. We have a quick lunch after Saturday forest run. Service was quick. We enjoyed the fish. Very nice place, friendly staff. Really recommend

The Banana bread is the best I've ever tasted and the presentation top notch. I was really impressed and had to go commend the chef. Staff are friendly and very efficient.

Went into this place on the recommendation of a guy who'd just came out of it while we were looking at the menu... If I could find him I'd shake his hand as the food and service was 2nd to none 👌🏻

Popped into Doc's with my friend had a nice meal and dessert. Food was lovely service was good and atmosphere was good not to noisy so able to chat while enjoying our food. Would recommend this place if you have never been to Newcastle or passing through and looking for somewhere to dine.

Not sure if I was just really hungry after getting down Slieve Donard or it was actually just that good, but regardless it was the best burger I've ever had

Service can be very slow..Food is hit or miss last visit food was cold and not very nice...staff are friendly but wouldn't rush back...

Excellent, fish was perfect panko breadcrumbs an interesting change & the Indian dishes were also excellent but need more menu space as we nearly missed them, proper size kids meal too , large soft drinks of epic proportions

A cosy homely place, with a very tasty supper like menu. Happy with our food this evening.

Always loved doc's, food, and service could never be faulted. However, tonight was a different experience, waiting time was terrible, food was not as good, chips were cold, portion sizes were smaller.... bring back the takeout Will not be rushing back.

Two of us visited Doc's Newcastle today, last visit several months ago really good, this visit a different story, staff and service first class, 2 fish and chips peas, very poor fish not tasting fresh , chips terrible didn't taste home made, over cooked not fluffy inside just hard throughout.at £32 very disappointing,will not be back.

Couldn't fault this place, the food was delicious, best burger and chips I've had I'm a long time and my mother's prawn and crab on brioche was divine she said. Service was fantastic too, very friendly and efficient. And great value for money.

The service has got terribly slow in Docs since the renovation. You wait ages to be taken to a table, even though there are plenty of tables ready. Then the waiting game starts, wait again for order to be taken and the wait on food is at least 25 minutes. There were only two of us! Think either they are understaffed or it isn’t run as well as it used to.

Turned up at 11:30 so the breakfast menu was still on the go. They accomodated my daughter's need for gluten free food offering her bacon and eggs that she loved. I had a mini fry and it was just enough for me, I usually judge fry ups on the sausage quality and it was spot on. The waitress was lovely with my daughter. Would be back when back in Newcastle in future.

Was pleasantly surprised when I went to docs thought it was fish &chips but they do other meals as well

Busy, nice food with half portions.

I was really. disappointed with the food we received at Docs restaurant today the fish and chips were cold and when I spoke to the manager his reply was that he had no other complaints and he would replace the chips.I .was very disappointed as we didn't want our money back or our food replaced.I felt that the manager had spoken to us in a very aggressive manner .

Good well balanced portions. Friendly staff, they no longer have a take away/ carry out section.

Docs is a lovely place to get a meal before heading to the beach, food is good and staff are friendly. Coming from dungannon, newcastle is a lovely place with lovely food places, and I assure you, docs is one of them, lovely and neat. Although if the restaurant is busy, don't expect your food to come too fast. I can tell this as we once came in March and the food was with us within 10 minutes but in July, we were waiting for 25 minutes and had to wait outside for about 10 minutes. But anyway its a good looking place, nice atmosphere, decent service. Nice place!

Took a group of ladies (30) for a lunch the staff were amazing food, and it was absolutely delicious. Everything went well , most definitely be back again, maybe with not such a big group 😆

The food is truly a 4 star hotel standard. The fish and chips is the nicest me and my family have had the pleasure of having in a long time. The restaurant is warm and welcoming. Decorated beautifully. We well diffenly be back .

Changed from a chippy to bistro atmosphere since i was last there. Staff very polite and helpful. Food hot and great service. We tried the soup and sandwich today. Soup was tomato which was lovely. Was abit too spicy for our taste. Might of been helpful just stating this. But overall very good.

Sorry, but I was very disappointed today. Had been to Doc's back at Easter and had the best vegetarian burger so was really looking forward to having one today, but it's been taken off the menu ?? The only vegetarian dish was "lasagne" which was very disappointing, literally a bowl of vegetables in a tomato sauce covered in melted cheese, not a sheet of pasta in sight!

It was my birthday so we decided to go to somewhere in Newcastle for a change and we were amazed about how nice the staff was they were so helpful and funny the food was absolutely amazing there were five of us and we had 2 honey chili chickens which were amazing, a texts burger ,a portion of chips for our 1 year old and a mixed grill which was also amazing as well I would really recommend going to this place they play music but not loud at least like some other places but overall definitely a 5 star review definitely coming back

RIDICULOUSLY OVERPRICED place! Absolutely INSANE the price of food in this place and for a seaside town to me more dearer than the big city if Belfast is insane!

Just had their India food. One of the best I have had. Rivals some of the best I have had. All prepared fresh! Looking forward to having it again

I have friends over from Norfolk wanted to take them somewhere nice for dinner! We went to doc's becuse we heard the scampi was delicious and I do love a good scampi!! But........ they didn't have any left!!!! So my friends both ordered fish n chips and I opted for a prawn and crab salad (starter) and a portion of fries!!! The meals came and I can honestly say they looked great especially mine!! But on tasting soooo dissapointing first it was supposed to come with mango..... NO mango..... It was supposed to be crab and prawn salad not crab stick and prawn salad........ (and the prawns were tough and over cooked) I did say to the waitress about it!! I might as well told the table for all the notice she took....... Also service was bad!! Waited 15 minutes for someone to take a drinks order then a wait for our order to be taken!!!!! Will I be back??? I doubt it very much!!!!!

For a "chippy" Docs is wonderful! Great decor, service is excellent, and the food is superb! They have Gluten Free fish, so make sure you ask for it, as it's not mentioned on the menu (they really need to promote this more including a huge poster in the window!) We use their Ardglass shop regularly, although they don't have GF facilities (please reconsider this!) and are always impressed by the quality. Their fish is clearly very fresh. Definitely be back.

Ordered 2 large seafood chowder and sourdough bread. We were shocked by the sheer size of the bowls! The chower was excellent: a creamy soup and chock full of fish. In combination with the vegetables, it was delicious. The waitress was welcoming, charming and helpful. All in all a great lunch. Full marks.

I really liked this. Popped in for a steak sandwich and a Lasagne. The food was very good and staff very friendly.

Very busy restaurant on a great sunny day... friendly staff... ordered food n drinks together - food arrived prior to drinks... just a little less organized in the business. Nice spread for the food and reasonably priced.

Saturday evening dinner at first good day this Spring topped off with dinner at Doc's. Staff kept us well informed during brief wait (always a great sign that busy) and were pleasant all evening. Wife's fish and chips best she's had, while my Hangover was lovely. No complaints from teenagers clearing cheese and bacon burger and the other's chicken gougons. A choice of drinks for the grown ups topped it off. Will definitely be back when next in Newcastle.

Had the fish n' chips and a pot of tea. Fish was really delicious, the batter was nice and crisp, perfect. Definitely recommended.

Food not warm. Onion rings greasy. Ordered zero coke. Never got it. So overall not impressed

Older man with grey hair and glasses presumably the manger had very poor customer service and appeared to be hostile towards the younger staff. Arrived at 11:40 and was told we had to wait until 12 before we could order from the non lunch menu. Fair enough. A drinks offer would have been nice during this wait. At 11:55 this man asked our order and when we placed this told us we had to wait until 12 again. Approach here was cold and dismissive. We had enquired with a lady from the takeaway counter where we were sat if we were ok to order from that menu opposed to the dine in menu and was told that woudlnt be a problem. After 12 when same man took our order he told us we can’t do this no could explain the price difference for the exact same menu item on the takeaway menu opposed to the dine in menu as it was the exact same item cooked in the exact same place. His attitude immediately put me off my food. Also got my friends order wrong and appeared very rude to his younger staff. Environment was hostile and also got the table beside us orders wrong. Absolutely won’t be back.

There were fast in serving the food! The price was reasonable and the food was good.

We chose this restaurant by chance and we were extremely positively surprised (March 2024). The portions are plentiful, the food tastes very good and the prices are pleasant. I recommend the fish soup with the super delicious bread. The staff is very friendly and the place is clean. I can highly recommend it. If I were to be back in Newcastle I would definitely eat there again without hesitation.

One of our favourite places to eat even if it's a bit of a drive would highly recommend it had the mixed grill 😋 would highly recommend it and everything else on the menu plus if you're gluten free they do a very wide range 😋 Kerry had a wonderful mother's day lunch 😋

Beer battered scampi was way up there Large battered prawns with garlic cubed potatoes. A bit more garlic butter over the potatoes would have made it tastier. The chips that came with my husbands pastie were a bit on the pale side. Couldn't understand the price of though 😱 £2.80 and £3.80 shocking mark up.

A trip to Newcastle feels incomplete without a feed in Docs. Tasty and comforting grub to wrap up the day.

What a great place to eat! The staff are great, the meals are fresh, delicious & large portions. When in Newcastle In Northern Ireland. Go here for a meal! Highly recommended

First time at Doc’s in Newcastle and it won’t be our last! We had a lovely warm welcome from the staff who were extremely friendly & helpful. We had starters of soup (sweet potato) & prawn cocktail and mains of lasagne and pan fried chicken supreme with garlic mash. The food served was hot & plentiful and everything was delicious and of excellent quality. Would highly recommend the prawn cocktail 😋 The wheaten bread served with the soup & prawn cocktail was the best we’ve ever had. Thank you to the chef that makes this, it’s amazing. All very reasonably priced too. You must can’t go wrong here. Thank you to everyone at Doc’s in Newcastle. We throughly enjoyed my birthday lunch & look forward to our next visit ❤️

Excruciatingly loud music, couldn’t be heard ordering food, an older man with glasses was hard of hearing, and it was even worse because of the music. Overall, terrible experience. Chicken stack was far too salty, the chicken biriyani was so dry, overloaded with spices and far too spicy, even though I had ordered the mild.

Was in on Thursday 25/1/24 at 4pm and had a very pleasant gentleman attend to us, very pleasant and well mannered

Just got our food was told on the phone it was gonna be 24.50 and only to be told when I went to pick it up it was now 34.50 asked why this was and the same girl that took the call couldn't say why so no help at all given. Will never be bk

£4.40 for a takeaway chip and £7.00 for a fish which is small and mostly all batter is a complete rip off. Pure greed. It costs £3.70 at McCanns for a chip which is a much larger portion and a way nicer fish. I know where my custom is going from now on.

A great staff member named Eddie, pleasant, welcoming, helpful, he's a keeper for this business. We shall be returning. Remember to tip Eddie. .

Really good food done well for an unassuming fish and chip show. The manager stayed open a little bit later to serve us which was really great. Excellent all round!

Whilst travelling around we came across Doc’s. Fantastic service, great food and plenty to choose from. A brilliant cafe to stop and refuel before exploring some more.

Went for lunch Great value Amazing portion size (chicken stack) Ordered extra onion rings, but didn’t need them as the meal was so big. The meal tasted phenomenal and even the onion rings were cooked to perfection and not greasy. Great job

Food was great but had an extraordinarily long wait to endure. Prices were north of reasonable and had to wait a long time to be seated. Staff were nice and the food was delicious. Would give a full 5 stars if they'd up their game regarding the time issue.

Disappointed on this occasion tbh. Me my wife and son just left there after travelling from Belfast to lay flowers at family memorial site. Son got preference and called Docs as he enjoys the Hotdogs and chips, he's a plain eater say the least. I ordered Panko breadcrumbed fish and chips with side salad. My wife ordered the battered fish with chips and mushys. The fish came and initially I thought it was southern style panko but no it was just too over done. Breadcrumb too crispy, thin fish and no taste if it really. Chips and salad fine. Wifes Cod looked a lot thicker than mine but again the batter was dark and too over done, too brittle and hard. The fryer has took his eye off the ball on this occasion. Ragin tbh, was just after a walk and hungry, that's why the food was ate and not left. Sins hotdog was fine. The server was nice and probably assumed the food was 100% because we were hungry and didn't leave much. Left after paying £46 odds unsatisfied which I hate and also not tipping which we always do, unless the food is disappointing. My last review of Docs was 5 star and highly recommending after a Roast beef dinner, which was delicious. I will go back and give it another go over the holidays but might stick to roast dinner.

Stood for 10 min waiting to be seated it seams that only one person able to seat customers as staff didn't acknowledge me while waiting. Was sat beside the window absolutely freezing standard of food has decreased

Called today Wednesday as we do weekly so disappointed with the quality of our carry out chip tasted like re heated from the night before and the burger bap was a frost biten So disappointing

Not your average fish and chip. So many upscale options. It's a real dinner out kinda night. Food was so class and the service was really nice. Everything was perfect. The Christmas Chips were soooo gooooood!!!!
