Docksider Restaurant in Newham

Worst meal I have had for a long time. On par with a spoons without the cheap prices. Stay at the hotel regularly but would avoid this restaurant. Over cooked and almost inedible.

El servicio de bebidas era dolorosamente lento, e incluso se olvidaron de uno de nuestros entrantes. Los otros entrantes no eran nada especial, solo sosos y olvidables. El verdadero desastre, sin embargo, fue el plato fuerte. Pedí lo que se suponía que era una ensalada mediterránea de calabazas asadas, que sonaba encantadora. Lo que recibí estaba lejos de eso. I honestly don't understand the bad reviews. I came here last night with my friend as we were staying at the premier inn nearby and wanted somewhere to eat. The place had a nice atmosphere the staff were absolutely lovely and accommodating and the food was just right. The cocktails were nice too! Thanks so much!

My friends and I visited here yesterday for a late lunch after one of us had completed the Triathlon next door. With such crowds in the area this place had ample opportunity to be set up to cater for the crowds. To say this place was ill equipped to do so and poorly staffed would be an understatement. We only visited because the other outdoor bar space at the other end of Excel was packed and this place we would at least get a table and the menu looked fine. The staff took our order but seemed clueless as to how to do so properly. We then waited almost an hour for our food and the staff were clueless on how to handle this. We would blame the crowds in the restaurant but there were none. The food was fine but the cafe setup with high prices was uncalled for. Sadly when it came to the bill, the 12.5% service charge was not optional which felt wrong. Would not recommend unfortunately.

After watching/taking part in a triathlon, our party of five headed here for some food and drink. Despite the restaurant being relatively quiet, we had several issues with the service. We asked for a little more time to choose our food, and were then forgotten about. One member of the party had to seek out staff to ask for someone to come and take our order. It then took an hour for our food to arrive, not ideal when one of the party has just engaged in tough physical activity. Again, we had to chase staff for an update on when our food would arrive. Although the food was perfectly acceptable, the level or service really was not. To add insult to injury, we were asked as the last dish was handed over if everything was ok with our food. Give us a chance to taste it first, eh! Most disappointingly, after paying, the member of staff returned to ask us to pay the service charge. We were rather disappointed with the poor service, and being asked to pay for it was somewhat embarrassing.

Not quite sure what they mean by ‘neighbourhood’ but it’s next to a convention centre in a restaurant desert so I guess they’re being quirky or having a laugh. Either way the food at dinner was dismal with really weird dishes that sounded like they had been created with AI. Beetroot bruschetta? You got it! Uncooked rigatoni in a teaspoon of pesto where the rigatoni is actually penne? Yes! Jellied guacamole on corn chips? More! Awful.

Excellent dinner tonight, best veggie burger ever

29th June 2024 10:29! Me and my girlfriend arrived a minute before closure, the head manager (who was very nice and friendly) made sure we got our order through even though they were about to close!! Manager went out of his way to ensure we were both happy with service and I had an amazing burger and chips🧑‍🍳🍟thanks cheff!! Highly recommend and cannot thank and highly rate the manager who was so friendly and made me feel very comfortable while waiting Will defo be going tmoz!!

Staff working were okay. Food was awful and overpriced. Waited 30 minutes for someone to take our order. Save yourself the time and money and just go grab some food anywhere else.

This was unexpectedly much more tastier than expected. Had lunch on a Sunday. It was quiet, the food was fresh, flavoursome and well-presented. The service was excellent.

WAY OVERPRICED for the amount of food you get and the taste of the food, really disappointing as the hotel is amazing and worth every penny but this restaurant definitely lets the hotel down!!!

I saw 3 out of 5 was expecting the worst. But I'll be honest food was good. Its more of a cafe setup with a fine dining price tag. Staff was great 10/10. Just food came out very slow which in a hotel you really do need speed. No complaints don't think if anyone at hotel wants to eat you won't be disappointed with the food or how nice staff are. But rest good luck lol.

Had food here and some beers with work colleagues whilst on business in London.

We stayed at the Aloft hotel and ate here every morning. Meha was our hostess everyday and she was the best! Very accommodating to allergies and seating preferences. Breakfast was awesome, I would definitely recommend this cafe.

Inconsistent portions and an overall rip-off. Several colleagues and I ate here on 3 occasions in the space of a week due to it being the only choice available to us at the time. The sirloin steak portions were completely ridiculous. £35 with no sides for a steak that looked like it had been split among 3 people. One colleague ordered a sirloin salad at £25 and had more steak than all of us at a much more reasonable price. Service was dire throughout the 3 visits. The final visit was the worst, with 8 members of our group having spent £300+ and reluctantly paid the ridiculous 12.5% service charge on top. We were then confronted by one waiter throwing a mild tantrum in front of the group as someone had forgotten to pay for a £4 portion of chips. Do yourselves a favour and look further afield.

Firstly, the service is on par with the best restaurants at which I’ve eaten, Dilhaj, in particular, went above and beyond to make our evening perfect. The food was remarkably good, though the selection is a bit limited. The ravioli and steak, in particular, were exquisite. I’d definitely come back when I’m in town.

This was a really underwhelming experience. Food took quite some time to arrive (hours). They unfortunately brought me wrong food for each course we ordered (while being very patient with them). Seems to be a restaurant that charges high prices for being next to the convention center. Would not recommend.

I visited the Docksider restaurant at the Aloft Hotel London Excel every day for 4 days. The servers in the morning were so sweet and nice to me every day. It was a pleasure to see them every morning. Their names Miha, Mohua, Parbati. I want to thank them so very much. This is a review about their breakfast (you can walk in and eat here even if you’re not an Aloft guest): The buffet is lackluster, certainly not worth £17.50 even given the usual amount hotel restaurants overcharge. There were the traditional English breakfast components but the scrambled eggs were sitting in a pot of watery liquid, the bacon was tough, and all of it was cold. There is a deli platter section and those things are oddly warm and taste off. Lastly, they advertise gluten free options but really what you can eat then are the baked tomatoes, mushrooms, watery scrambled eggs, bacon, deli platter, and fruit salad. They have no bread substitutes and everything is from shared buffet containers so the odds of cross contamination is SO high. Disappointed and leaving hungry. I suggest crossing the street to buy the buffet at the doubletree, while it’s still a mediocre buffet they at least have safe GF and dairy free options (ask for an omelette to be made!) and their coffee machines do espresso

Do yourself a favor, and avoid this place. We waited for our food for way over and hour, when it got here every single order was wrong. After telling them we had the wrong side, I had to remind them 45 min later that we were still waiting for the correct sides. Place wasn't even crowded. When we told them the issues we had, we were met with arrogance... Finally they decided to give us a discount after the whole table complained. Food was less that mediocre. Embarrassing.

Visited for a conference. Asked if we needed to book, they were all really lovely and said just turned up. After enjoying a pint of lager shandy we wandered upstairs at 7.30. The staff were totally thrown when we asked for both a table and for dinner. We were shown to the bar and told there was a 30 minute wait. We should have read the room, looking at people gently rocking in the corner who may have been there for some weeks waiting for a table. After some time, we convinced the bartender that it would be a good idea to take our order. Eventually delivered, he even offered to open the bottle. About an hour later we were seated in a restaurant so well lit, a dermatologist could run a successful clinic. We were told there would be a *little* wait for food. By this point our colleagues had started to arrive, having been lulled into the same false state of security. We asked for them to be added to our table, but alas, it wasn’t to be, the empty tables that surrounded us had a different destiny, of empty lonely rejection. Our food still had not arrived. The table behind us returned their cold burgers. We were worried. Eventually my colleague noted an order identical to ours was waiting to be served. She offered the waiting staff her help and said she’d fetch it. Eventually like warm food started arriving in dribs and drabs. We were quickly accosted by the colleagues who were still trapped in limbo at the bar, who were scrabbling for scraps. We donated to them our small bowls of chips as they arrived and ate what we could of whatever remained. We were offered a cup of complimentary tea. It was the best thing on the menu. As we left, having to pay the bill at the bar on the way out as they didn’t bring it to the table (and we were worried a general election would come before it arrived), we stopped to pay our respects to our still hungry colleagues, who were feasting on crusts of bread and cold chips. They may still be waiting for their table, I can’t be sure. On reflection, it’s worth the 10 minute walk across the excel to visit Nando’s. The staff were lovely, there just weren’t nearly enough of them, or enough training.

Food Quality is far a way from to place in a hotel I try 2 time First time steak was very bad Second time the tikka masala feel as came out of a plastic bag from Supermarket:(

Was starving and thought I would treat myself to dinner whilst staying at aloft. Had fish and chips and was really disappointed. The fish was greasy and soggy and didn't justify the price. There is also an automatically added service charge to the bill, which I found unfair. I was served by a bald Caucasian man that seemed to be the only one taking his role seriously, the rest of the staff were just messing around destroying the whole atmosphere. I have stayed a few times at this hotel and it's a shame to see the low standards I've noticed in this restaurant . I've always enjoyed my stays here, but this restaurant is a disappointing experience. Please step up and improve.

Okay Variety. Horrible Quality and Taste of food items, smoothie, orange juice, etc. Did not expect this from the Aloft (4 Star) hotel.

Very poor quality of food. My veg was hard, my burger was tiny and the chips were cold. Food took ages. And drinks were exhorbitantly expensive. Perfectly nice waiters but they need a new chef.

We were sat for an hour and the only thing we had, had were halloumi fries which we shared. Then the mains come but the lady didn’t actually put My partners order through so my main came and his didn’t. Then when his finally came I found mold on my burger. Then had to wait ages for a new one. Bare in mind they gave NO communication and didn’t even ask for a drink refill. After about 30 mins I asked how long it would be, the man said he would check then never actually came back to give me an answer. Completely disappointed as this was a birthday meal for my partner. To make things worse the chefs weren’t even wearing hats!! As a chef myself I would expect basic PPE to be worn to stop cross contamination. This is a 4 star hotel I expect a lot better!!!

Worst food ever. Ordered sharing tacos and 2 different salads which were just awful. Not at all how it was described on the menu and dressing tasted absolutely disgusting.

The food is awful!!! “Chipotle chicken” tacos (that are served freezing cold fyi)… That chicken has never seen a seasoning a day in its life and the salsa is straight out of a grocery store jar, same with the taco shell, looks like Taco Bell. Why are we putting a mix of lettuce, arugula and carrots in tacos? Also got the sea bass and it tasted like freezer burn, had bones in it, and again no seasoning. Broccolini was soaked in just butter, no salt no pepper. Please do yourself a favor and eat somewhere else. The best decision we made was ordering a side of onion rings, and even those were undercooked… I’d rather have a tuna mayo sandwich from Boots lol

Awful from the start until the end of the meal, waited a century for a table which we were told was booked at a different time to which we had booked it at. Nothing available on the menu and when we did order we weren’t told what we had wasn’t fully available and replacements sent without warning. shocking, for a nice hotel the food was awfully presented with dips and sides in cheap plastic containers. Rubbish service overall bad experience. You can use the excel having a show as an excuse, you are opposite the excel get with the programme

Excellent standard for a buffet! The salmon and pork were both cooked really well, and plenty of choice of sides and pudding.

Stayed in the hotel and had dinner here. The staff was friendly. We were served by Vien and the service went smooth! I loved how knowledgeable the staff were. He recommended the steak and it was absolutely delicious and came quickly. Cocktails were amazing too! The manager Ana was lovely and very welcoming! Would definitely recommend eating here!

The food was appalling, Came from the North to stay in Docklands…. We tried out this restaurant as from the outside and the menu it didn’t look that bad, But when we received our food it was absolutely disappointing, The presentation of the food looked as it was dropped on the floor and then picked up and put straight back on the plate, The mushrooms and the chicken had no moisture which meant it was all over cooked and dry… The veg was absolutely shocking as it was just thrown on the plate with no flavour to it…. The best part of the restaurant was the water to wash down the dry taste left in my mouth…. Wouldn’t recommend this restaurant to anyone!!!

Would not recommend at all Hated it me and my friend wanted to eat so we tried here because it looked nice we ordered “chips and dips” thinking it was going to be chips but it went it was crisps and they were disgusting and spicy we hated it. Also we went to pay and the total should of came to £10.00 but it weren’t it was 16.88 it was £5.00 each for the “chips and dips” the most disgusting thing too was the water we had was £5.00 When we went to pay we was told it was only by card and we was serviced charged ( which we should of been told about when we entered) the man was not helpful either and said it was our problem and then my friend only had cash so we just stood their and didn’t know what to do so a man offered to pay for her.

Really cool building and setting and service really nice. My girlfriend has eaten her multiple times and assured me it was nice. But the pizza I got was truly awful. Basically just cheap tomato spread on bread with droppings of a questionable cheese on top. I asked for more cheese after and it was still poor. Burgers looked decent. But avoid the pizza...

The restaurent website gave the impression that this was a trendy bistro-style place with cutting-edge dishes, but when we turned up it turned out to only provide a buffet of a few salad items, bbq spare ribs, spicy chicken wings, salmon pieces and some rather tired looking puds. And all for £48 a head, plus £7 a pint for beer. The food tastes all right, but it's not what we were led to expect. The staff were charming, but the food wasn't.

The steak I had in this restaurant was simply one of the best I have had in my life! Fantastic!

Le personnel est attentionné et vraiment sympathique. Les produits sont frais et d'excellente qualité tant pour le petit dejeuner que pour la restauration. Il manque cependant de spécialités locales. Par contre coté tarif c'est excessif, quand on prend un Gin Tonic c'est un Gin Tonic, ici vous payez le Gin et vous payez le Tonic ?... Pour 1 apero, 1 entrée un plat une Bouteille de vin rouge et une bouteille d'eau vous pouvez compter au moins 150£ pour 2 personnes, c'est selon trop onéreux. Le petit déjeuner est complet et est a 17,5£ Vous avez des petits compartiments ce qui confère une intimité certaine.

Love this place! I have been here a few times and the food is always so delicious. Came here on Friday as we wanted something to eat after an evening at the pub and ended up here. It’s the little things like the amazing and friendly servers, the chilled music and the bread they give you while you wait for your food. The chefs are honestly so good and yes it is a little pricey I guess (after reading other reviews) but I believe you get what you pay for sometimes and so don’t really mind so much. I would recommend the mac and cheese (doesn’t look that special but once you taste it omg) and the duck and potato was amazing to! Like reallyyy good.

The restaurant looks nice and the price matched but the quality of the meat was terrible and the rest of the food was not great either but the meat especially was bad , for £28 for a Ribeye I expected more , the waitress asked how is the food I told her the meat was awful and her response was but it's cooked properly, which it was , just not edible.

We went for lunch when visiting the Excel Centre for an exhibition with our 8 year old son. When we sat down we were given menus, no children's menu. I should have asked, but as she didn't offer us a children's menu, I assumed they didn't have. When ordering, the waitress seemed very confused when I wanted to mix and match 'sides of mash potato' and just the 'grilled chicken' from the burger for my child's meal, it took awhile for her to understand and at no time did she offer us a children's menu. She clearly should have realised I was trying to work around the current menu to hand, to create a plate of food for my child as the adult versions of burger, squid ink pasta etc...would be too large for him. We also ordered a diet coke for child and the waitress turned up with our drinks and an already opened Pepsi Maxi stating they didn't have diet and promptly put it on the table in front of him. Surely if this was the case, she should have come back to us to confirm this was okay or offer an alternative? Our order came and was perfectly fine, but I then noticed on the reservation table with all the menu's a children's menu and a table a distance away from us the child was eating a children's meal!!! The food was also overpriced for what it was £12 for a side of mash and a small piece of chicken. We won't go back, nor recommend.

The only good thing about this establishment in my opinion is the the view, in my opinion this is the only good thing going for it. We stopped here for a drink after being at the Ride London 2019 Expo but after paying for the drinks and looking at the menu we decided that no way we were having food here. As usual London is so expensive £5 for a pint and a glass bottle of coke like £2 something. As for the food, their food menu was like a snack menu and definitely not worth the prices they were asking for.

Serving is terrible. Especially Asian foreigner never expect to get a nice table.

Very disappointing - service and food absolutely awful. 50 min we sit in the empty restaurant and wait our order. After 55 min I asked manager, when we will get our food. She said "soon"...After another 5 min we have got our mash and grilled chicken breast. And guess what? Food was freezing cold! For an hour they even can't defrost mash! It wasn't cook... Such nice place with such horrible services.

Marriott standard in a great location and reasonably priced

Great location near the EXCEL London. Good specials if attending an event there. Dont order the pasta unless you're in the mood for canned stewed tomatoes in a sauce and canned mushrooms. Not sure about the other food. Did have a good crowd on the outdoor side, hence me giving it a shot

It was nearby to Excel where I had an event to attend. Nice food places towards the west entrance onwards.

Stayed at the Aloft for a week and on the last night wanted to use our 5 GBP/night certificates for not having the room cleaned some days. My wife and I ordered the fish and chips and the steak and ale pie. Both were fantastic, and the fish was among the most fresh I've ever had in the UK. Service was quick and the manager was very accommodating.

Where should I start? Waited over 2 hours for this steak and ale pie. 5 minutes turned into hours. The beef brisket was thick, dry and was accompanied by cold mashed potatoes.. the manager was fantastic when we shared our feedback and did his best to make it right.

Standard breakfast you can expect at a hotel of this size, buffet with full English, continental options all presented nicely and tastes brilliant.

Nice place if you are after a generic Euro-fusion hotel restaurant feed. I often stop for a couple of drinks here on the way out of ExCeL. A lot quieter than the bar downstairs. The al fresco dining area will be great come summer.

Having the restaurant close by is always convenient and this restaurant do a good job. The food is as expected and pretty good size servings. The baked camembert is a must try.
