This cafe has really gone downhill. Went in for a cuppa and cake and could not believe the prices for the cakes. Extortion. £3.99 for a tiny slice of cake and £1.10 for a small teacake. Used to love this cafe but don't think I will be back.

I ordered poached eggs on sourdough toast. The toast came pre-buttered, ( or should I say pre margarined)... I tried my best to scrape off the excess as l never use marg but it had already soaked into the bread. The eggs were well cooked although Luke warm on arrival at my table. The service was very slow (l waited around 35mins to be served in a queue of around 10 folk) then waited another 10mins for my breakfast to arrive. I can only assume they were short staffed as the staff seemed very stressed but not unpleasant. Wouldn't return 🙁

Definitely not nearly so good and needs a refurb. Staff seemed disinterested and unhelpful. Food mediocre Not in a hurry to travel 50 miles to return

We visit this Dobbies Cafe/Retaurant a few times a year and have always found it to be nice but a little expensive which we didn’t mind. However, on our most recent visit we found the most whole place to be absolutely filthy, from the tables to the floors, the lift, the window ledges and the crockery it was utterly disgusting. Even some of the cakes looked like they were still hanging around on a wing and a prayer. At the prices they charge they really must do better. You can make allowances for it being busy but at the time of arrival 11.55am the place was quiet. In the plus side the staff were great and very pleasant.

As we had received a reminder to use our coffee vouchers, we decided to go up this afternoon to use them. What a disappointment! The queue was the whole length of all the counters. One decided to get a table and wait. The other joined the queue. After waiting 23 minutes the other one brought the coffee to the table. Unfortunately the coffee was warm, not as hot as we like it. There was even a queue to pay for the coffees! We both noticed that the areas underneath tables had crumbs, crisps and bits of paper. Around the rubbish bins there was debris lying about. The two cleaners only seemed interested in cleaning table tops, not taking away used crockery. Even the table next to us had a bowl of water on the floor, as if for a dog. It was there when we arrived at the table and was still there when we left. We are glad we aren't hygiene inspectors!!!!

Went to ask for some breakfast items that were still on the hot plates, right in front of the 3 servers who were standing talking and eventually asked what i'd like. I asked for a couple of sausages and a hash brown to be told they can't serve me breakfast items as it's 11:34am and they stop breakfast at 11:30 and the only hot options were paninis. When I pointed out that I only wanted some items that were right there on the plate, they still refused. Interested to know if items are then tossed in the bin or saved for the next day?? Total waste of food. Little wonder Dobbies is looking sad and tired. Won't be rushing back.

Bought the Xmas lunch, waited 20 minutes in queue, waited another 30 minutes at dirty table, no cutlery in the tray, food was terrible and not even look warm, staff where zombie like, never again, disgusting.

Our coffees were quite tasty, but service was very slow. The whole restaurant was absolutely freezing and dingy. My friend and I were chilled having our coffee break. All the other customers were wrapped up trying to keep warm. A very poor experience, not recommended!

OMG this place is absolutely minging. The toilets had a level of dust that must ah e accumulated over weeks not 24 hours. They had an old dried out old air freshener that hadnt been moved or dusted in weeks. The toilet roll sat on the floor as the dispenser wasn’t working. The restaurant lasagne was definitely out a box and tasteless. The girl behind the counter drew me a dirty look when I told her the cup wasn’t clean. All in all a crap experience . Won’t be back for this or plants. Considering what this place charges and it has the cheek to have a Waitrose! It’s shocking bad .

Not a clue where to go when you get into this place if you're unlucky enough to find it nothing to look at to see what's on a menu definitely will never come back here

If you like a breakfast that is lukewarm, tasteless, made with the cheapest of ingredients that’s obviously been cooked and left on a hotplate for some time, served up on a cold plate to make it even colder, coupled with a coffee that if it was any weaker would need crutches, then this is the place for you. Whereas if you want something a bit more decent for you hard-earned cash, you may want to go elsewhere. It is horrible! Also, the whole place, including their sales area downstairs looks manky and unloved. Most of the staff seem nice though. No idea why this place has survived and can still be open. I won’t be back.

Visited Dobbies restaurant this afternoon for a coffee. Hadn’t been for a while. I was actually appalled at how run down the place has become. The carpet on the stairway leading to the restaurant was absolutely filthy and smelly. When we got upstairs I was shocked to see numerous dogs lying around under tables, chairs and there was even one up at a table being fed tit bits by its owner. There was food lying about under tables. I don’t know who decides it’s appropriate to allow dogs into an indoor restaurant where food is consumed but management should put an end to this wholly unhygienic practice right away. Dogs could be carrying fleas, ticks and shaking goodness knows what else into the air, and pose a health risk to allergy sufferers. Not to mention the constant irritating barking. We turned around and left immediately. Definitely will not be back.

Disappointing - just after 1pm and despite the menu showing 3 different soups, there was none left! So we then looked at the sandwich/baked potato options to be told there was only one potato left, there was no Coronation chicken ( this weekend of all weekends, 😂) - while we deliberated on the remaining options the server shrugged and walked away and left us. I had said to her that I knew it wasn’t her fault but that those higher up the tree need to plan better. They say that hindsight is a wonderful thing but sometimes fore sight is better. We ended having a coffee and cake but not what we had planned for lunch. This place needs a good shake-up but I suppose those that ‘could do’ won’t even see this so it won’t happen. Pity because it used to be good and busy. Going downhill I fear.

The cafe was a bit disappointing. Clearly short staffed. I felt sorry for them. A number of dirty tables. No hand gel in dispensers. Dirty floors around the table. Very odd to see a dog friendly section. We watched one dog sit on a table, one barked constantly. Disappointing to see more ficus given to dogs than children. Coffee and cake was nice, just didn't feel very clean . Especially in a post Covid world.

I know Dobbies has gone downhill for a long time now, but us the cafe is conveniently located for me i thought i would give it a visit. I arrived to see a bottleneck of customers all waiting on hot drinks....im talking about 15 persons... i can never understand why Dobbies can never serve hot drinks quickly like Costa or Pret,,, oh no the wait was unbelievable long and slow, two on hot drinks but no quick delivery,,, another server standing at a till point doing very little... downstairs 2 on tills, one chatting away ,,, quite the thing, are there any Mangers in Dobbies ???? This place is so badly mis managed,,, its ripe for closure and they would only have themselves to blame

Stopped in for a light lunch today . Very busy , but only one serving . I ordered 2 soups and waited in the queue . By the time I was asked what drinks I would like , I tested my soup and it was luke warm . I asked the young girl if I could get my soup heated , her answer was , pointing over my shoulder , there was a microwave over there . I didn't respond straight away , but then thought I'm not going to use and heat up my own soup , it shouldn't have gotten cold in the first place . I was so taken back by the girls reply , I told her to forget it . I walked away with my husband . I was speaking to 2 ladies at the top of the stair , when a member of staff butted in and verbally attacked me . I would certainly not recommend ghis place , under staffed , dirty tables every where and staff are rude and aggressive.

Visited this afternoon and decided to have a coffee as we normally do, not especially busy, but couldn't believe it when one person was left to serve up teas and coffees resulting in a sizeable queue quickly developing! The young person coped extremely well and did try to get help. I have been coming to this Dobbies for a number of years, speed of service always on the slow side on account of one serving point only.

Just returned from an afternoon tea in Dobbies Monifeith,the food was lovely and fresh ,delicious. The lady who served us was lovely too ,very helpful and friendly,would certainly recommend

I visited Dobbies restaurant in Monifieth Dundee today with my elderly mother and bother for a festive lunch or so we thought. There were no Festive lunches as advertised to be had, we were very disappointed as we had especially gone for this. However we placed an alternative food order. At this point I must add how very sad I find it that they charge full price for Pensioner size portions! Which may is a large portion of their clientele on weekdays. We wanted a large Latte as advertised, they could only do this in a takeaway paper cup! After a 40 min wait our food arrived. I had the fish & chips, the fish was terrible, the batter was very undercooked & wasn’t nice tasted at all. All plates were piled high with chips, way over the top and very off putting. The floors weren’t very clean looking , tea/coffee stains, crumbs etc. The poor staff were run off their feet as I believe they’re very understaffed. While we were sitting waiting, a massive queue had formed waiting to put orders in. Definitely far from the Dobbies we used to know, we won’t be rushing back, well certainly not for a meal anyway & I could overhear others saying words along these lines too.

Wonderful spacious very clean with view of garden centre ,quick service nice caring smiling staff . Lovely hot breakfast served while we were enjoying our hot pot of tea .

Visité el restaurante alrededor de las 2 pm el sábado 22/8/20. El personal fue muy servicial y educado. Covid - Se cumplen 19 protocolos de distanciamiento social e higiene con mucho espacio entre las mesas. Los comensales estaban cumpliendo con las reglas usando máscaras faciales mientras hacían cola y haciendo uso de las instalaciones de desinfección de manos. Sin embargo, con todo el enfoque en la higiene y las medidas tomadas para mantener la limpieza, ¡todo esto fue socavado por Dobbies que continuaba permitiendo perros en las áreas de restaurante!

Almorcé aquí el 23 de agosto. La cola tomó siglos y, como resultado, nuestra comida estaba fría cuando nos sentamos. Había un miembro pobre del personal que limpiaba las mesas, pero simplemente no podía seguir el ritmo.El camarero fue muy brusco y tuvimos la impresión de que había un mal ambiente entre algunos miembros del personal. Todo parecía muy desorganizado y desearía haberme quejado en ese momento, pero todos parecían tan acosados.Considerándolo todo, es una experiencia que preferiríamos no repetir.

Terrible servicio.Se esperaba que esperara en una cola, pero no más de 30 minutos sin explicación del retraso. Está bien si te queda bien, pero no cuando estás discapacitado y usas una mascarilla. Staff were attentive and friendly, service was quick, but a number of tables were needing cleared and there did not seem any urgency to do this.

We have had a snack in the cafe a number of times, and the tables almost always neeed cleared, and that seems to seldom get done.The cakes and scones are overpriced compared with local cafe's.We have not seen any sign of management taking any action.

Me and a friend went in on Tuesday for a coffee and a cake catchup. Firstly the cakes are overly priced for something that isn’t even homemade and we clearly saw the frozen cakes coming out of a cardboard box that had been delivered.

On a dull day we decided to visit Dobbies to have coffees. We were quickly served, and when we finished, decided to have a look round the ground floor. We were taken aback by the new display areas that had been set up. The whole area indoors seemed to be much better laid out and the displays were more inviting than in previous times. Everything was neat and tidy. It is certainly a large improvement from our last visit a few months ago. Keep up the revamping!

We visited this Dobbies, as we do regularly, for a late lunch. Major issue was we waited 10 mins to get served soup, there wasn't a member of staff dealing with hot food. We were eventually served by one of the ladies dealing with hot drinks. A member of the kitchen staff did pass us at one point but we were still waiting. No issues with the soup it was very good. I also had a raspberry and white chocolate scone which was tasty but fell apart when i tried to butter it. Major issue here was the long wait for service and we saw several people move on when they saw no one serving the hot food.

This is probably our favourite Dobbies, and we often stop when we are passing through Dundee.On this visit we had our 2 for 1 'Scone of the Month' voucher, and our monthly tea/coffee vouchers, when meant all we paid for was one scone.However, we certainly have a complaint about this visit. It was lunchtime, but there was nobody manning the tills. So, having helped ourselves to coffee and tea from the self-serve machines we were then forced to join the counter queue for customers waiting for coffees and teas to be made. With 4 customers in front of us, each getting 2 or 3 drinks this took ages, and our tea and coffee were getting cold all the while. Blow me, just as we reached the assistant to pay, they pointed behind us and stated someone was just going on the till point, and insisted we go there. By then there were two people who had spotted this till opening up and had got there in front of us, so yet again we had to queue.Result - lovely scones, but stone cold cappuccino and tepid tea. The young lad at the till seemed totally uninterested and unsympathetic when we mentioned our hot drinks were cold, having queued to pay for 12/13 minues in two queues. We definitely deserved to have new HOT coffee and tea offered, and that gesture would have left us with a far better impression.

Nothing changes in this cafe, the tables are usually waiting to be cleared, this has been the case on almost all visits we have made to it, nor is there any sign of management to ask why this happens.There is a good selection of cakes but at prices higher than comparable cafes'. The hot drinks preparation is a slow process, not through the fault of the staff.

Love having a wonder round this store so much to see all under one roof, we take our dogs in that in itself is a bonus, they go back to car and we go for coffee and one of their delicious scones

Soy un visitante habitual aquí y en nuestra visita en noviembre tuvimos motivos para quejarnos. El gerente (Jack) dijo la próxima vez que lo visitamos para contactarnos con él. Fuimos hoy (3 de enero de 2020) y estuvimos encantados de recibir una comida complementaria para compensar nuestra visita anterior. La comida siempre es buena y hoy no fue la excepción. Went to Dobbies with standard expectations for a cafe. Unfortunately these expectations were not met by a long shot. It wasn’t a particularly busy time however there was hardly any clean tables, the queue for food/drink and the till was 20 person deep and hardly moving. The cleanliness of the food counters and cutlery was questionable to say the least. The staff appeared to be doing their best with the resources they had available to them but this wasn’t coping with the demand. Won’t be coming back at this is the third time I have had the same experience

Visitamos Dobbies en Monifieth para un desayuno dominical y quedamos extremadamente decepcionados con los niveles de higiene. Al llegar temprano solo había unas pocas personas en el restaurante; una vez que habíamos elegido nuestro desayuno, buscamos una mesa pero nos consternó ver las mesas y el piso no había sido limpiado / lavado de la noche anterior, de hecho había unas pocas papas debajo de la mesa adyacente a nosotros.Limpiamos nuestra mesa pero nos sentimos incómodos sentados comiendo nuestra comida allí. Esta es la segunda vez que nos encontramos con este problema en este restaurante Dobbies en particular.Dudo si vamos a comer aquí de nuevo.

We had a quick bite to eat here before going back up the road after a weekend in Dundee. Good choice of breakfast. We both had a roll with a choice of 3 feelings and a very lovely cappuccino. The bacon was very good quality, not steamed like you get in most places. Very tasty and a nice place to sit and relax.

There were plenty of tables free at the time of our visit but almost all had dirty dishes on them so we couldn’t get a seat. There was also an area in the restaurant for dogs which put right off so we left. Why are these places pandering to the dog owning minority? You have to think how many other people have been put off eating here because they don’t want to sit next to a drooling dog whilst eating. (Service dogs are an exception of course)

Although there was tables free each one had a pile of dirty dishes on it so couldn’t get a seat. Sad to see dogs in the restaurant area. Animals should not be in food serving establishments unless of course they are service dogs. Will give it a swerve from now on.

Llamé alrededor de las 10 de la mañana para el desayuno. Mi esposo tomó un desayuno completo con una botella de jugo de naranja y tuve un rollo de tocino. El desayuno y el tocino en el rollo estaba frío como la piedra. Estábamos apurados, pero fuimos al mostrador para quejarnos, pero la señora detrás del mostrador estaba sirviendo porque tenía una pequeña cola y no me dio contacto visual, así que simplemente lo dejamos. Llamo regularmente por un bollo y café, pero no volveremos a desayunar.

Very pleasant visit shop being set up for Christmas We visited restaurant for afternoon tea very busy but enjoyed it. Food well presented coffee excellent.

We arrived just before 4 and we could barely find a clean table , the floor was absolutely discusting , needing a good brush and clean . Two girls serving behind the counter with very long hair , hanging over the front at one side , disgusting and very un hygienic . They were also discussing one had a sore back . One girl threw something towards a bin and missed , it landed on the floor , so the pair of girls started laughing . Behind the counter was disgusting needing a lot of organisation and cleaning . We still never found a knife to cut my scone , I had to use a fork . Whilst we were sitting drinking our coffee , one girl was flicking her hair back and holding her back , touching her hair , that is shocking , then she started serving other people . Never even went to wash her hands . This place is a total disaster , I would not recommend this place to anyone absolutely disgusting . Should be closed down ,

We rarely shop in Dobbies as it is expensive but were tempted in to spend a voucher given as a gift. Also had a 2 mains for £10 voucher sent via email by Dobbies so decided to have lunch there too. Food was ok for £10 but not good enough to ensure we returned to eat here again at full price. Tables were not cleared and cleaned regularly. They were busy the day we were in though - a Tuesday. Didn't buy coffee as we usually would as queues were too long - they need to reorganise how they serve food and drinks. Not a place we would rush back to.

Had a nice cup o tea.Staff polite and served us quickly Dobies seem to be changing everything at the minute so not really a lot to see

Went to Dobbies for coffee with a friend. The center of the store was empty then we saw them! The staff were refitting the store to pack out Christmas stock.

On our way home from Montrose to Ayrshire and stopped off for coffee and scones. Second in the queue and not busy. Placed order for coffee and hot water. Female member of staff was aggressive and challenging in her response and continued to be so, having to get the last word in throughout the ordering process. It was a confrontation that was unnecessary and embarrassing. You can be sure we will not be visiting again. Terrible attitude when it was not at all needed. Some customer service training is needed 'big time' !!

We decided to call in for something to eat as had been driving a while and needed a break. It was 15.15 in the afternoon. The staff were busy clearing up and preparing for the following day.

Salad poor,tasteless no dressing,Tables left wet after being cleared and cleaned .Coffee mediocre.Service slow.food expensive.

La sopa estaba casi caliente pero no del todo. El primer café fue horrible y totalmente insípido. El muchacho que me sirvió (con los pulgares dentro de las copas) rompió accidentalmente unas cuantas tazas, su colega se echó a reír y soltó a "Jesucristo". Me dio otra taza de café sin decir una palabra.

Visitamos Dobbies en Monifieth con la intención de gastar un cupón que gané, llenar una nueva frontera y almorzar. Mi esposo es un amputado reciente, así que necesitábamos un carrito para discapacitados para poder empujarlo y comprar. No vimos ninguno, así que preguntamos en Servicio al Cliente donde nos dijeron que 'hay uno pero alguien lo está usando. "Ninguna otra oferta de ayuda hasta que un asistente me vio buscando y sugirió una cesta con ruedas. Dado que quería comprar bandejas de plantas, esto no serviría. Gasté el cupón en una planta de lavanda y me fui, decepcionado y hambriento. Pobre espectáculo, dobbies

Visité ayer con mi hijo y mi padre. Me cobraron 4. 95 por 1 paquete de sandwiches de mayonesa de huevo. El cajero dijo que son 4. 95 quieres una ensalada con ellos? (Como forma de justificar el precio estoy seguro). Estuve de acuerdo y me trajeron un plato con lettice seco 1 rebanada de pepino y medio tomate pequeño. Una pobre excusa para una ensalada, ridícula. ¡Como miembro de los dobbies obtuve té gratis que fue el peor té que he probado! El más barato de las bolsas de té, estoy seguro! Dobbies conseguir su acto juntos por favor!

I ordered macaroni with chips and peas, macaroni was lovely , chips was not cooked properly. Spoke to a member of staff who just said i will let them know no apology , no feedback from discussion with chef, nothing

Este lugar es genial en cualquier momento del día! El desayuno cocinado es siempre una delicia! Puede seleccionar un desayuno ligero o la comida completa y el personal siempre es amable y servicial. Siempre decimos que tendremos un pastel y un café para terminar, ¡pero nunca lo conseguiremos!

Had to go to four counters to get everything we needed, some had queues so took a while - how long does it take to get a bottle from a shelf - about 30 seconds unless you’re standing gossiping, can’t that wait until people get to their table? Appreciate this no the restaurants fault but feel that a simpler system would eliminate the problem. Food was OK, but lukewarm by the time it was served. One meal was served from the counter while 3 were delivered to the table later. Tables weren’t cleared very quickly, most people had to clear before they went for their food. It wasn’t so busy that the tables couldn’t have been cleared. Most disappointing of all was when we asked a member of staff for directions to the toilet, was sent in totally the wrong direction. Won’t be rushing back I’m afraid.
