We stopped for lunch on the road north after a lengthy drive. We have been several times before and everything was fine but NEVER again!! Food was very poor quality and we will not return. I had fish and chips..the fish was over cooked and dry and the chips had obviously been sitting forever, they were like cardboard, chewy and horrible. My husband had macaroni and garlic bread, he declined the chips but his plate was served with chips on it. The cheese sauce had split and was tasteless and the garlic bread was so hard it was inedible. Just under £30 for 2 meals and 2 drinks was not cheap for a lunch that couldn’t be eaten! We were that exhausted and just wanted home so we left without complaining but we definitely will not be back.

As a coach driver, I was looking for somewhere I could park first of all, and there is a designated place for buses. I had 50 people ( football team and fans ) and we all had brilliant breakfast with a fantastic service. No complaints at all and if I'm heading up north again, I'll definitely be calling in to Peggy Scotts

Stopped for a coffee break and to use the facilities. Cakes are generic slab tray bakes cut up into triangles they weren’t very appetising and didn’t taste great. Water for tea was not hot! Large flies in restaurant and open jugs of milk lying on counter uncovered. Milk is therefore warm! Poor hygiene standards. This is also reflected in the toilets which were extremely smelly with over flowing bins with no lids full of dirty tissues. Sink hand washing area in need of some tlc … very dated and grubby looking. Toilet seats were grubby too! Wont be back unless hear of any improvement in their standards of hygiene. Not worth the money!

If you like burnt dry overcooked food then this is the place for you. We had 2 Scottish breakfasts burnt bacon , undercooked potato scone , tasteless haggis, dry toast even with butter. Bread tasted stale. Looks like a cheap cafe without the cheap tag. Wouldn’t return here would rather be hungry

This was to be our stop over on the way home and wish we had kept driving. We went in around noon and ordered coffee and asked for bacon rolls. Coffee was fine but waited for over 10mins for the rolls so accepted that presumably fresh cooked. When they came the bacon was dirty over cooked to me it had been deep fried or on a very dirty hot plate. We should have complained on the spot but after the wait we just wanted out of the place. We had called in the previous week and had coffee and pastries which were fine but afraid Mondays experience means will not stop again.

We were heading north after picking up our 3 teenage daughters and having been to Peggy Scotts ourselves but only for a light snack ,thought it a safe bet to take the girls there. There were a couple of moans from the back seat as we drove past McDonalds and KFC just a bit further south and in hindsight wish we'd went there instead. Granted it was neither lunch time or teatime,it was about 3 in the afternoon but we were all ready for a full meal and they were still being serving them so 4 portions of chicken fillets and chips and 1 portion of haddock and chips were ordered. Now,first of all the chicken fillets were not chicken fillets, they were round and flat and totally tasteless things. The girls were smothering them in ketchup in an attempt to make them edible but to no avail. The peas were nice but way under cooked and as a result resembled gun ammunition. The chips were okay but nothing to write home about. The girl who had the haddock said it had no taste so I sampled some and can verify that it had no flavour at all and the batter was a weird yellow colour. For the prices being charged to say we were disappointed would indeed be an understatement. However the girls had great fun on the rest of the journey poking fun at poor Peggy. Perhaps like Mr. Kipling she doesn't even exist and I doubt if the restaurant will either for much longer if they continue serving food of this low quality. On the plus side we didn't have long to wait and the young staff were friendly and attentive. It will be tea and a fancy piece only if we return.

Have stopped here many times over the last 20 years so we were looking forward to the usual standards but left disappointed! The staff at the service counter appeared to be confused with 3 simple orders for soup and a sandwich. Two of us got our soup served straight away and we waited a good 15 minutes for the sandwich. The third person in our group waited 15 minutes for the soup as his was served as a 'soup and sandwich deal'. The other two in the group were not offered this deal. We asked when the entire meal would be served but this added to the confusion to the person who took our order! Soup was very tasty, two plates semi hot, the third was roasting hot. We had just wanted a siimple qick light meal but turned into a bit of a fiasco. Not sure if it was just a 'bad' day for Peggy Scotts or this is now the norm!

Our two granddaughters' food was good, macaroni cheese and chips and bacon brie and cranberry panini. However, my wife had a hard and overcooked, dry veggie burger with chips. The chips were good. I had an overcooked and dry breaded fish chips and beans. Chips and beans were good. But, overall, my wife and I have no intentions of going back. We live locally and have been before but this has to be the worst food my wife and I have tasted there. Peggy Scott's really need a new chef or teach the ones they have how to cook these simple dishes!!!

We arrived here tired and hungry after a long drive at 6.25pm and had to wait 5 minutes for anyone to appear at the counter. When we tried to order a meal, we were told that it was too late as the kitchen was now shut. I pointed out the clock to the member of staff and said we had been waiting 5 minutes and that it was now exactly 6.30pm, but was met with a blank look. Clearly neither the staff nor the management care about customer service or their reputation.

This is a great place to stop between Dundee and Aberdeen with an easy to entry and exit on the busy A90. It is spacious, with plenty of outside seating (if the weather is suitable). The staff are friendly and efficient and the prices very reasonable. For us, the highlight was a decent gluten-free choice (which is rarely the case elsewhere), with a sandwich made to order. The adjoining shop is well stocked and the fresh bread is highly recommended (if there is any left after this review). We've passed by so many times, but will make a point of stopping in future.

A very disappointing visit. We stopped on the way up to Fraserburgh for breakfast and were left waiting over 25 minutes for a simple egg on toast and egg muffin. When we questioned a waitress about the wait we were told that there was only 1 chef on duty but that person could not have been a chef because they clearly were not able to cope. Had they told us this on arrival then perhaps we would have been more understanding or gone elsewhere but nope, take the money and let you wait! Couples were leaving and demanding money back which took time as well. It was pathetic to say the least. My coffee was stone cold by the time food finally arrived but nothing done to address the issue like a fresh cup offered. There was a lot of frustrated and annoyed customers. Things do go wrong sometimes, but how you handle them is quite telling, Peggy Scotts did not handle it at all well. We will not be returning!

As part of our lunch ordered Mince , Mash and Peas. When it turned up it wasn’t presented very well at all , quite a mess tbh . Everything was ‘Luke warm’ not hot as you would expect. The mash had been boiled and mashed to a pulp and as Soooo heavy with butter it was so yellow and inedible, the mince was almost tasteless and what ever they had used for the ‘gravy’ had started to congeal half way through me eating it ! the peas were nice , but they haven’t been drained properly and were swimming in water . I love Mince and tattles , but this dish was pretty much the worst one I have EVER had ! Won’t be having it again .

On a fairly long trip, decided to treat ourselves to more than a drive through cup of coffee. Peggy Scotts was enroute. Everything appeared clean and tidy, lots of tempting nick nackery to buy. Service swift and efficient, if not overwhelmingly welcoming. Food delivered quickly but standard a little variable. All acceptable ...until you used the toilet facilities. Ladies were cleanish but toilet roll missing in many cubicles and there were no period products available, which seems to be the norm elsewhere in Scotland. My male companion reported the mens toilets, to be "a disaster" Blocked urinals and only one functioning cubicle, the other had a pair of pants stuffed down the toilet! Both were reported to staff. Sadly could not wait to check if problem rectified.

Visited from Arbroath earlier today (2nd April)), with my wife for lunch. We opted for a simple cheese omelette each with a little side salad. Astonished to learn that when this was put to the chef by the lady taking our order, he said he was too busy to make omelettes? Couldn’t think of anything else that he could possibly “rustle up’ quicker, so went elsewhere for lunch :)

Good freshly prepared food efficiently served in clean modern setting. Conveniently located for north bound travellers on A90 but awkward and best avoided if south bound.

With my wife away for the evening, I decided rather than have my youngest son for dinner at home, I would treat him to a visit to Peggy Scott's Roadhouse at Finavon, just off the Northbound carriageway between Forfar and Brechin. We have dined there often before, the place is large and clean, more a bit of a motorway cafe than a restaurant but the staff are always helpful and the food is only cooked when one orders, pays and sits down to eat. There's a shop attached selling all sorts of stuff and a substantial free car park reserved for patrons of the place. I had a nice all-day breakfast and ny son had his macaroni cheese and chips, as usual. Dullish eating venue ... But he likes it ... And we shall return ... even though there's no Peggy Scott there now ...

Handy parking right on the main road and plenty of tables inside. There is a reasonable range of cafe standards, but the service is prompt and the food is good. Bacon roll is stuffed with 3 good rashers. I wouldn't go out of my way to stop, but I will certainly be back.

A very convenient roadside stopping point . It is suitable for either a coffee break or a meal. All day breakfasts are available along with the usual fish and chips etc. It is a sizeable cafe and there is also a Spar grocery shop within the premises. It is a good place to have a browse around the display of handbags and other gifts while waiting for your meal to be prepared. The meals that we ordered were very palatable and of a decent portion size for the price. There was quite a selection of sandwiches and cakes in the display cabinet and they also make their own bread on the premises which is available to buy over the counter.

Travelled up to Inverurie on the 27th of December for a visit to family. We left the North East for Glasgow 8 years ago and this visit to Peggy Scott's affirms exactly why we made the decision. The atmosphere and attitude of most of the staff on that day takes dourness to new levels. There is friendly but reserved attitude which can be a character trait in many parts of Britain but, in my experience, only the North east can excel at these levels of dourness and understated hostility.

Stopped off for a coffee on our way from Fife to Aberdeen. The place is spotless and staff friendly and efficient. Unfortunately the coffee was not as good, exceptionally weak coffee, it tasted like water more than coffee. Even at a small price of £1.80 it’s not worth it.

Over the past two years this place has grown and grown better, food wise especially, staff happily greet you on entry. The shop is a big asset for travellers I am sure, all in all a super wee place to stop on a weary journey.

We always stop at Peggy's on our regular trips north. Not only is the food delicious across the board, the staff are friendly, the place is spotless and the gift shop has a broad range of goods. Nothing 'tacky' here and very fairly priced. I especially like the handbags and on this visit we did some Christmas shopping too. The range of dishes on the menu spoils you for choice, tasty breakfasts, bakery on site, proper fries and delicious soups.

It had been nearly a year since we last went to this great establishment - delicious road side food (excellent fresh fish & chips) and the shop has a great selection of sundries and lovely crafted gifts for all. Please keep it up! Thanks.

Food looks lovely, but unfortunately it doesn't taste great. It's expensive and not value for money. The scones are dry, and the cakes are made to look bigger by the copious amount of cream piled on top.

A family get together, 21 of us, without preordering our food must have been a challenge but one that was achieved pretty well in my view. The team were lovely, friendly and efficient. Food, mains and starters arrived quickly and was piping hot, certainly hadn’t been sitting around in the kitchen before being bought to the table. Only two things I’d mention, the batter on the fish and chips was a bit greasy/ not crispy however the fish was beautiful and secondly two of our group are Coeliac so a few more Gluten free options would have been great. The Thali though deserves a special mention, it had been recommended and it lived up to expectations. This is definitely worth a visit, really varied menu, good service with a good ambiance, if we didn’t live over 400 miles away we would certainly be back.
