Excellent food & service, will definitely be back!

Outstanding curry. This is a Scottish-style restaurant rather than a curry house, and serves good-looking Western food, but the curries are exceptional - authentic, tasty and perfectly cooked. I'm a curry snob but my Thali was superb and was far better than many traditional Indian restaurants. Give it a try, I doubt you'll be disappointed

A group of8 went for lunch on saturday the service was alert and cheery the food was very good and outstanding value needless to say I will return

Had a lovely experience at this restaurant. (6/04/24) The food was excellent and the offer in variety of dishes superb. The service was fast and efficient. The girls did an amazing job. Excellent waitressing with a smile and a friendly approach. Well Done Chapter and Verse. You've got it finely tuned to give your customers an excellent dining experience. Will definitely come back again and highly recommend to others.

Had a very tasty 50/50 Pizza tonight. 👌👌👌👌👌

A friend and I went on a wet day, unfortunately the place was empty but the service and food was great and we enjoyed a quiet catch up. We both had chicken burgers, a massive plateful with chips, salad, coleslaw and the crispiest onion rings ever! My friend had cheesecake and I had sticky toffee pudding in the 2 course special. Food was piping hot and excellent value, we will be back 😀

Other than a warm welcome, and a similar exit, our experience was left wanting to say the least. For a place that came highly recommended (also the only place open in forfar at 8.30pm), we were disappointed to see the head chef nip over the road to the takeaway for the brace of pizzas we ordered. Although we are capable of tackling a takeaway we paid premium price for a subpremium pizza. Didn't anticipate a manager coming in drunk and tearing the young barman a new one however that all added to the experience... "dinner and a show" I believe they call it. Will round it up there as I don't want to write a chapter or verse about this.

We had a great experience here on Friday evening for my Mums 70th Birthday meal, Food was great and atmosphere was very peaceful and pleasant. Staff were very professional and let us stay beyond closing time in order for us to finish our celebrations. I would highly recommend Chapter & Verse. A+++

The food was alright but not very friendly or helpful staff. My glass of wine was not chilled enough and I seriously did not want to drink it. Was told that it was chilled and shown the bottle taken out of the fridge. That didn’t really help so was told i could have ice cubes. So I drank a watery slightly colder glass of wine. That was not exactly what I wanted. Won’t be going back.

Food is always good here, and the staff are always great too! Nice atmosphere and the owner/manager is lovely. Staff are professional but know how to have a laugh as well which is always welcome! Hard working people. Always a winner. Quick mention for the waitress who's there every time my partner and I are in (blonde long hair, possibly eastern European origin) who is always a joy to see working. Perfect waitress! Thank you.

Had beautiful meal there today. Now my favourite place to go. Food amazing id new York style chicken burger and the chicken fillet was cooked to perfection. Other half had lasagne which he thoroughly enjoyed. He even commented first time I've seen you clear a plate. Not long to wait either really for meals

Tried a takeaway from here for first time. It's the best food I have had in a long time. I have never had food in the restaurant but always looks nice inside, I would definitely return for a meal. Delivery was also quick. Portion sizes are very good, It is the best in forfar. Edit, Had a meal in chapter and verse tonight and was brilliant. Staff are friendly and food was great, there is a good selection in the menu. would highly recommend.

I took my girlfriend out last year for lunch I phoned at lunchtime to book a table the staff were very polite and the food was good and a reasonable price and plus theres a wide variety on the menu and to drink will definitely be back

Really nice lunch today - first time in Chapter and Verse as we're new to the area and popped out at lunchtime for a quick bite. Meat chilli was really nice and not at all greasy. Vegetable thali was a delight also, with well thought out and nicely spiced dishes and a freshly made chapati. There's a good selection of dishes here and we'll be back to sample more. Nicely set out restaurant with a lovely bar, friendly staff and good service. Well worth a trip.

I highly recommend this restaurant. They are not only friendly and attentive but they also made sure to cater to any food restrictions/allergies. I felt welcomed and valued as a patron. (The venison was so tender and the sauce complimented it perfectly)

Enjoyed a solo trip for a late lunch. Mixed fajitas were sizzling when they arrived and remained hot throughout. Seasoned deliciously. Classic pudding - Sticky Toffee Pudding was beautiful. Hot and served with ice cream and plenty of Toffee sauce. Latte to finish it off. Friendly staff. Checked back adequately. I'll be back.

Very good food at a good price. The choice from the menu we found exceptional. Ended up going for a mixed tandoori and it was one of the best i've had. Recommended.

The food is fab here. I had jumbo chicken goujons which were freshly cooked delightfully soft real chicken. The veg was absolutely fresh not frozen. The chips however were not freshly chopped but they were OK.. The steak pie is awesome too The service is really nice too. The restaurant is very nice inside. If you are in a hurry it may not suit because food is cooked to order. But very comfortable to sit and wait anyway. The price is really good value for money too.

Exceptionally poor service, and extremely slow. 1 hour wait between ordering and food being served. Quality of food however was good. 1 week on and decided to try a takeaway and yet the same again. Ordered online and given a time of about 30min, received a call to say order would be a further 30 min. Went In To collect and yet still waiting 1.45minutes after ordering. Certainly won't be back and wouldn't recommend unless your in no hurry. Very disappointed

This restaurant is perfect for a casual lunch or dinner date with family or friends, or for a more formal lunch or dinner. It's well laid out, spacious & clean. The food is of a high standard, always very tasty & well presented. The staff are fabulous & very efficient, polite & well mannered. The restaurant is situated in a perfect central location. The curry's are absolutely gorgeous, also sticky honey, garlic chicken is devine.

Waitress/ manageress, was very rude, we used this restaurant every time we visited forfar, i can assure you we will not return, I have never experienced this before, very poor show.

ABSOLUTELY APPALLED!!! VERY BAD EXPERIENCE. Booked into Chapter and Verse 1.30. 22nd September 23. Under name of Mrs Malcolm. Explained mobility scooters. Arrived there today for special 80th birthday meal. Was told should have phoned and explained re scooters !! I did ! Waitress taking drinks order did not know any of beers available. Had to keep of checking. Other waitress came to take orders. (4 adults) She was quite abrupt. Firstly when showing us to our seats, just pointed a said sit there! When taking our order she was abrupt and not giving us the opportunity to ask her questions. My husband, said in a very nice manner, can you please stop being so abrupt when speaking to us, allow us to discuss our choices with you, as we are the customers and you are here to take our orders. She went away, and when she returned asked us to leave. My husband asked to speak to the manager, and the waitress said she was the manager. We left our drinks and left the restaurant. We are 4 people age ranging 66 upwards. We were appalled by our treatment. This was a special organised 80th birthday meal. We would have spent over £150 with the wine, drinks and meals. Totally disgusted. Been there on many occasions but will never return. And we will pass our experiences to other friends who when staying at Forfar caravan site, of our bad experience with this restaurant. VERY BAD EXPERIENCE.

Haven't been in for a number of years due to moving from the area. Extensive and varied menu. One of us had breaded Haddock and the other roast Sirloin of Beef. Both meals had generous portions, and both dishes were delicious and modestly priced. I would thoroughly recommend Chapter and Verse to you.

We arrived late for our booking but staff welcomed us .Food was delicious and could have not been nicer .Looking forward to our next visit. Helen Anderson

Tried the dinner Thali last night absolutely wonderful. Three meat curries one vegetable curry. Plus a very good naan. Chicken fillet starter with salad all served on a platter. Give it a go. Well done Ali the whole meal was great. The staff are so pleasant ands friendly and attentive- one of the few places that ask if your meal is ok.

Food was ok, wasn't too busy but took about an hour for starters to come out. We arrived without booking and it clearly annoyed the staff. Kids ended up very restless due to the amount of wait between courses

Food was great. Only about food was the actual serving we had ordered 8 puddings and they came in 3 lots. Everyone was finished but the time the last 2 puddings came. One staff member wasn't friendly but was efficient- barely cracked a smile. The actual waitress for our table was lovely and friendly and happy to take a photo for us. Mu hubby is picky with hot chocolates - he had 2 and they were both excellent.

Take away from here, was awful, garlic bread uncooked, prawn cocktail all watery and chicken dopiaza bland and watery, disgusting

My husband and I ordered curry with nan break, salad and garlic bread. Doesn’t sound like a ton of food for 2 people, but we had to box half of it up! Large portions and amazing food. Thankful we have another evening to enjoy the food!

I had the vegetable curry with Nan bread. They have several currys to choose from, and the one I had was excellent and had just the right amount of spice. The nan bread was great too. I highly recommend dinner here when in or passing through Forfar

Visited with my in laws who live locally. It was a Saturday night and they were fairly busy so the service was very slow and we had to wait an hour to get our starters. Thankfully we didn’t had so long to wait on our me starters and deserts. Overall nice food and generous portions recommend a visit.

WOW, WOW, WOW. What a fantastic food experience. Went last night with my husband, daughter and son in law. The staff were lovely, attentive and very friendly. The food was fantastic. I started with chicken pakoras, so soft and flavoursome, then spicy garlic chicken masala, stunning and the chicken so tender it just melted in your mouth, the keema nan was lush. Was stuffed after that but, there's always room for desert, had the Bailey's cheesecake, the lightest I have every had. My husband had the sticky toffee pudding which he said was the best he has ever had. Altogether a brilliant wee gem of a place.

Family visit , range of British and Asian dishes . Curries were amazing, best Paratha we have ever eaten . Would definitely recommend and will return when we next visit . 👍

Meal was ok got colossus burger but was disappointed to be informed as the placed it on table that there was no black pudding so put extra bacon on instead, would have preferred it if they had informed me of this before hand as burger...

Visired here with my sister today and cannot fault the place in the slightest! The food was delicious, generous portions and good prices too! The lady serving us was polite friendly and helpful! Will definately be back!

Awful. The service was nonexistent. We were shown to a table and ignored. We waited for five minutes then had to ask for a menu. We were allowed to order drinks, but after another thirty minutes no one came back to take our food order. This was despite three waiting staff standing near the bar. They walked around trying to look busy. Finally we got up, slowly put our coats on and walked out. We passed a couple of staff members and no one said a word to us.

Went for our hogmanay meal my wife's was fin my tea was not that great potato was hard sprouts were the same it said on the menu if you were a senior u would get a discount when I asked about this this 14 year old girl came over and said I hear u have an issue in front of other customers I have never felt so humiliated in my life I paid the bill but will not be back when I phoned I was not asked if I was a senior

Have not been here for years but we've heard about the excellent menu including Indian Cuisine that's on offer. We chanced it and didn't book. Quick and simple staff were attentive, Cokes all round and ordered Food. Mac and cheese Battered Jumbo Chicken Goujons Cajun Chicken Fajita (Baguette) All dishes came with the ubiquitous chips but the goujons and mac also came with peas and carrots. Hot! Totally tasty and satisfying, I can't describe it beyond this statement. EXCELLENT! Definitely will be visiting again, looking to have a curry dish👍🏼

I am in Scotland visiting from England, we found Chapter & Verse through Google. I had Makhani Masala with Chicken Reshmi (you get a choice of meats, or Vegetable) with a freshly cooked Peshwari Naan, and it really was fresh! The curry was absolutely amazing, it hands down beats any curry I've personally had, which is a fair few! We all returned again for a second time a few days later to try something else, I had the 6oz Classic Cheese Burger, which again was perfect, and again was met with a friendly and reassuring service. Once again, the team at Chapter & Verse are amazing and friendly, the chef included, as he made sure we had enjoyed our meal on our second visit to eat there, and now we've booked a table for seven, which I look forward to.

After having such an awesome meal (reshmi chicken makhani masala) on Sunday, I decided to return to on Tuesday and to try something completely different ordering the chef's spicy sharing platter for 2, and battered haddock, which is served with lovely fresh vegetables, and sweet potato fries - I have to say I was not disappointed, the food was so fresh and cooked to perfection. Every small detail taken care of and all tasted exceptional. The whole experience of Chapter and Verse was thoroughly enjoyable with a very friendly happy and helpful staff who added to making a wonderful evening each time. Here for 7 days from England, and I will be returning again before I leave as I can't think of better place to eat.

Went in for my 59th birthday. My daughter ordered a main of Chicken Tikka Masala, with a garlic nan. She absolutely loved it. She's had it before. Only comment on that is that the nan was so thin it was actually crunchy, and so thin you could almost see through it. That is the God's honest truth. I on the other hand ordered Lasagne, and till hungry. couldn't wait I haven't had Lasagne out in a long time. Biggest let down ever. I was so, so disappointed. The portion was absolutely tiny. A small shallow dish, not much more than an inch or so deep. No layers at all. In all my years of eating out, that is the smallest portion I have ever had by a country mile if I got a dozen or so chips, a spoonful of carrots. It was supposed to have salad, there was a pinch, honestly it was ridiculous. I had starved myself all day and I was still hungry. I'm not a huge eater. We both had a sweet. My daughter ordered Sticky Toffee pudding I think which looked lovely Small portion of course. I ordered what I thought was the most filling thing on the menu. Apple Pie and Custard. It was in a very small plate, and as usual not enough custard Couldn't wait to get stuck in. I was still hungry. OMG it was so hot it burnt my mouth really, really badly, The pastry was soggy, and obviously microwaved. No I didn't complain at the time for a reason that happened when we were there. Don't want to say but, it wasn't a bad thing. I'd give you 21/2 stars for my daughters meal, even for the nan that was so thin you could almost see through it. It was so thin it was crunchy like a pompidou. Mines was a huge let down. They have obviously cut back on portion sizes and kept the prices the same. I hope I came in on a bad night, as I would like to try somewhere else.. maybe a delivery carry out.I would like to hear from the owners. I don't want to hear what other people think, I just want to hear about my experience. Believe it or not haha . I'm not a complainer . I've never done anything like this before. I have given my comments openly and honestly.

Really enjoyed our meal tonight. The service was so friendly, and we were made to feel so welcome. Food was good, and we will certainly return next time we are in Forfar. Disabled facilities not brilliant due to the fact that the restaurant is located in an old traditional building, but the staff were great and went out of their way to assist my wife, who needs a wee bit help with mobility. I was at Chapter and Verse today with my family and was very disappointed, the waitress looked like she did not wish to be there and the service was ridiculously slow, (it was not busy at this time) when my food arrived it was dry inedible and the the chips had been over cooked and were also dry. We then waited over 20 mins for our deserts before deciding to leave without them and paid the bill. Severely disappointed and will not be returning.

visited after golf course catering closed early. Really glad they did because this restaurant was really great on all fronts . Pleasant, knowledgeable staff, good service for cooking fresh and a really great choose of food to please a wide variety of tastes

A bit disappointed, ordered the baguette meal with chips, coleslaw and salad. The coleslaw had basically no mayo in it. Nothing was seasoned, no dressing on salad. Chips were nice, and the waitress was lovely but overall average.

My chicken was just tasteless and dry, probably frozen, just no flavour. Rice also tasteless Last few times it has been like this. Won’t go again.

Went to this lovely restaurant choose the special dinner menu 3 courses for £22.95. The portions were large, had prawn cocktail the sauce was fantastic never tasted anything like it. The tikka masala was the best curry I have ever had. Sticky toffee pudding was lovely. The staff were friendly and efficient. Really had a wonderful night. Well done to everyone.

I have eaten Indian food all over the UK, the meal I had here was superb. I had the Celyonese sauce with the chicken tandoori Korma, it was fantastic. Now please be aware overall the dish was hot, but to my taste. You can always ask for extra mild. The service was excellent and the drinks reasonable. I would highly recommend this restaurant. There are other great dishes on the menu so do not be put off if you do not like Indian food.

This was our second visit and it was just as lovely this time round. Again, the service was excellent, the restaurant spotless and the food top notch. The menu is varied with Scottish dishes, pizza and pasta - but chef's indian-type food is absolutely gorgeous...
