Probably the best sushi I have had outside of Japan. An unassuming little place with no alcohol license but with customers packed in tightly because they know this place is a gem. So many places these days over-do the sushi with garnishes, sauces etc. knowing that they’re destined for instagram. Instead this place serves sushi as it should be; simply fish and rice with the flavours and quality of ingredients doing the talking. The menu is great with a selection of fish rarely seen in other sushi restaurants. We will definitely be back!

The most amazing sushi. The salmon is so fresh and rich, sauces are amazing, gyoza were so juicy and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. Don't think I will find a better sushi place in Durham.

Best sushi I’ve ever tasted - absolutely phenomenal, booked a table as part of a Birthday celebration. Can’t speak highly enough of the offerings we chose - Seaweed salad, Katsu curry chicken, Chicken gyoza, Salmon shasimi, King prawn roll, Salmon Volcano roll, Aburi red dragon roll & 2x Soft shell crab in tempura. Flavour sensation - star of the show was Volcano Roll - but everything was unreal. Please please visit this little restaurant and sample the great food on offer - our whole group raved so highly about it. Highly recommended can’t wait to go back x

I love sushi and this is the best in Durham and one of the best in the north east. Prices are reasonable and the food is fresh and unpretentious. I come here regularly and it doesn't disappoint. It is a cosy place so if you want to sit inside you might not get a table.

A small casual restaurant with an extensive menu. Alcohol is not served. The food was very good, there was plenty of it and the price was reasonable. The waiter took our order, writing in Japanese, and he was both attentive and helpful. We would definitely go again.

Really loved my first experience here. The Mrs and myself enjoyed a good lunch, some sushi, some tempura and donburi. I normally don’t go for futomaki but when the host said the aburi red dragon was a highlight we had to try it. And I was really pleased I did it was excellent. The restaurant is quite small but very good authentic eating. The service was nice and attentive too. Things like we were given cutlery just in case, but then I was complimented on my chopstick competence. Definitely one to try, or if you work in Durham maybe make it a regular stop!

Would love to have tried this place… they took out booking but when we turned up no space.. well it’s tiny so ok, the owner said 10 minutes so ok we called over to a pub.. came back after a drink to find there were different people in there… so he’d not kept our space at all!! If you’re going don’t bother booking… just turn up. However we won’t be doing that…

I had tried a few sushi restaurants since having the authentic taste in Japan. Many restaurants have tried and few have succeeded in bringing food that pays proper homage to the taste. As you can tell, I tried a few places in the North East & invariably disappointed with subpar attempts. This is a refreshing surprise that I found this cafe place. The food is remarkably good and the service is second to none. The server is attentive and knowledgeable about dishes that may interest us on our future visits.

We were visiting the north east and looked for a sushi restaurant. This place definitely over delivered! It’s up a back street and basically a takeaway with two tables (seat about 6 each) and a couple of counters with bar stools for couples and solos etc. so not very glamorous! But the sushi was great! We had tuna sashimi and seaweed salad and then two plates of sushi rolls - Aburi Red Dragon (flame-seared salmon, tempura prawns, cucumber, mayonnaise, Teriyaki sauce & Tobiko) and Spider Roll (Softshell crab, avocado , carrots, spicy mayonnaise, Tobiko). 16 pieces in all and they were large and filling. Two of us only just managed to finish it all so no room for dessert! They don’t have a licence so we had a Diet Coke each but I think you can take your own for a small (£3) corkage fee. All this was about £42 for two. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They also easily accommodated a dietary intolerance of mine. I would definitely come back here next time we’re in the area.
