This. restaurant has been reported for its disgusting hygiene , see google reviews . It has been renamed TIK KA but dont be fooled ,same owners, same "cash only " tax avoiding situation , same unclean storage and preparation area. We threw our food away . We are not the only people to have said this . We watched in horror as we saw rats running around the back door where food was stored on the ground in open tubs, birds flew down to take pecks at the food right on the back door , soooooo unclean . Please be aware . These are my true findings of TIK KA formerly DING DONG SUSHI .

I’m now a regular at Ding Dong and love ordering their sushi for takeaway. It’s authentic, tasty, well presented and thoughtfully packaged. It’s also well priced. I would love an option to order online (please!) but the phone call is also very quick and efficient, and delivery times are much shorter than other places (~35 mins). Tasty sushi, broad menu, great service. Oh, and I definitely recommend the gyoza! 5 stars for Ding Dong Sushi 🍣❤️

We had been to the restaurant once. Our visit was nice, food lovely. We mainly order takeaway which we pick up. Absolutely delicious. We had a chicken teriyaki bento, miso soups, veg dumplings and loads of sushi (grilled salmon). It was beautiful. Very nice food in general. I find it hard to find good sushi in UK... But this one is my favourite :)

First visit on Friday night at 8.30 pm and to be honest eat the place was quite. Two young drink of house staff who were both excellent. Ordered in three stages as we wanted to try a variety of their dishes and really pleased we did as all of them were fabulous. Service was attentive without being overpowering and drinks came quite quickly when ordered. The price was reasonable as well and I have no reservation in recommending this place to you all! Enjoy Guys!

Went to this restaurant with the family and ordered a large selection of sushi, rice and noodles. The portions were big and very tasty. They had a good selection of vegetarian options too which is great as most other restaurants I’ve tried are limited. Would definitely be going with the family again.

I walk past this place, sometimes twice or more, every day since it opened. What a hidden gem! Having been to other restaurants in Upminster, we thought we'd give it a go, especially to try the sushi. It was a Friday night, around 6.30pm and there were two other tables occupied when we went in. We were greeted by a lovely lady, who brought us prawn crackers, and took our drinks order. Thanks to other reviewers, we opted for the house wine by the glass which was very good - and as they say generous too. This option was also nice because I had the rose and husband had the white. Both went well with our meal... It was delicious! A wonderful selection of sushi. We had the blue dragon roll, a selection of nigiri, and some spicy California rolls. All served with a delicious wasabi and pickled ginger. We were advised that we could order more if we wanted it. We had to ration ourselves as it was very tempting to over order! When we finished the meal and received the bill, it was really good value. We spoke about how good it was on our short walk home. Having just written this review, we've decided to go again tonight - for sushi...perhaps we'll venture further into the menu. My five stars is for the food, wine, service and value for money. I agree with other reviewers that the ambience could be better with more people, maybe some softer lighting, and atmospheric music. I'm going to play my part - return, tell others about Ding Dong, and take friends and family there when they visit :)

Walking in the place reminded me of a works canteen, functional table/chairs, bare decor and no ambience. We were also the only people in to eat at prime time mid week. With a little trepidation we ordered starters and main expecting little. Wow were we wrong, starters arrived quickly and best Gyoza I've had in a while. Pad thai was great and a large platter of really fresh tasty sushi. Really looking forward to going back again, will maybe donate a tin of paint, some cushions and a couple of prints :)

Don’t get me wrong we probably benefited from the fact it was 7pm on a Friday evening and only 3 tables were occupied but we left at 8.30pm without anymore tables being occupied too? Staff were as helpful as possible and drinks were good. We ordered predominantly sushi, several dishes at a time (tapas style) and it was never a problem. We also enjoyed the prawn tempura and soft shell crab. The food, service and value couldn’t be faulted but just something about the atmosphere wasn’t quite right. I don’t know if it needed a faint Japanese background tune or just needed to be busier but if they found the solution this place should be full and vibrant. I’d visit again for sure and my mother is extremely fussy and didn’t have a bad word to say which says a lot.

First thing to get right here is the Sushi is of a good quality at this venue, all the different Sushi styles are covered by the venue and having eaten all of them here i can heartily recommend the menu. However the take away service is either non existent (just eat) or overtly time consuming (ordering direct). However don't this deflect anything from this high quality venue.

Low food hygiene rating 1/5. (scores on the doors)Got a bad dose from the sushi. You would be mad to eat sushi from an establishment with such a low hygiene score, I should have checked before visiting. While the Sushi was OK in taste, way too much rice versus ingredients.I suspect they don't use sushi rice..The Thai Green curry was full of sugar and had a very glutinous texture/appearance.It is a strange Chinese cover version of what a Thai green curry should be.The service was pleasant and drinks are reasonably priced.I feel bad giving a one star, but I have to as it made me ill.I am confused by the other very enthusiastic ratings for this establishment as I had visited based on them.

We visited this restaurant last night after having a real craving for sushi. Being new to the area, it was decision based purely on previous reviews. We were not disappointed! The sushi portions were larger than expected, perfectly cooked rice, the freshest fish- absolutely delicious. We then ordered the braised lobster which was divine! To the point where my partner went back to the kitchen and thanked the chef personally. The portions were really generous and we ended up having to take a doggy bag home. The restaurant itself is very modest and quiet but don't let that put you off. Only downside is that the seafood section of the menu is not available for takeaway orders so to have the lobster, crab, squid main dishes etc you would have to eat in at the restaurant. But without a doubt, it is definitely worth it!We will be coming back here... often!!

Only had delivery from here but food is absolutely fantastic to the point where I ask for dishes that aren't on the menu and they cook for me! Delivery time is around half an hour and quality and portion size of the sushi is also great as I do like my food. As for value, sushi generally is the same a cross the board but some of the dishes are cheaper than I've seen elsewhere for example the softshell crab.I have yet to eat in so I cant comment on the restaurant as yet but I feel an appearance coming on soon.Overall food is very good and blasts away any Chinese or other takeaway in the area and you also have the option of healthy eating. My partner and I spontaneously decided we fancied some takeaway sushi on a Sunday evening and Google the nearest place to us, and, Ding Dong! We only ordered a large sushi box and waited 10 minutes whilst we snacked on complementary prawn crackers and headed home. We were highly surprised at the quality of the sushi and was reasonably priced at £10.80 for 16 pieces. Thankfully our spontaneity had prevailed and we will be returning here soon to try the rest of the menu!

I was excited to try out this restaurant but I was totally disappointed for a couple of reasons. Firstly, they didn't even pay attention or read our special requests due to dietry requirements - why have a additional comments box if you're not going to read it. We asked to use separate containers for tempuras due to allergies but they didn't even bother.Secondly, the portions were extremely small for the price. You could have travelled to Central London for something the same price with slightly bigger portions. I mean the rice was literally two tablespoons. Thus it is too pricey for the amount of food they give you. Thirdly, the tempura was really soggy, they should have made some holes in the container. However, the Volcano Sushi was delicious and was worth the money. The Teriyaki Tofu Bento was not worth £9.20. The mix tempura was not worth the money either. Overall, it was disappointing because you didn't get what you paid for but the food wasn't bad.

We looked at the menu, which was a bit worrying as it had Sushi, Thai and Chinese on it, but stll (against all our rules) went in!! What a mistake.. Our starter of mixed tempura, was soggy, greasy and tasted of two day old vegetables.. Then the first of our sushi came over.. It tasted of over cooked longrain rice with gritty octopus on top.. At this point we had to stop the rest of our food from coming.. We paid for our drinks, and left.. With a greasy taste in our mouth.. NEVER AGAIN!!!

It's a lazy Sunday and I didn't feel like cooking. So the other half and I ventured out and found this 'Ding Dong Sushi' restaurant for late lunch/early dinner fare.We shared pork gyoza, king prawn tempura, salmon sashimi, and spider rolls to start with. And for main we had chicken katsu curry and yakisoba. The starters and sushi were spot on but the chicken katsu curry didn't work for me. It's too sweet for my palate. Special mention for the salmon sashimi as it was really fresh and literally melted in my mouth. Considering the amount of food we've had, the bill was very reasonable at £40.65 to include a pot of green tea and a coke. As another reviewer mentioned, do go for the sushi as it seems to be what this place does best. Hopefully this restaurant will stay and will have the opportunity to establish itself. Others have mentioned the lack of decor but I can understand a business might not want to invest too much in the interior if the interest in its food isn't there. We'll definitely be back for more sushi goodness!

We went to the restaurant because of Trip Adviser reviews I wouldn't normally produce a review but my experience was so dissimilar with the reviews on Trip Adviser I feel I should comment. The venue is a small restaurant with about 10 tables. There's a bar at the rear and service to dinners on the Sat night I went there was provided by a man supported by a woman. Both appeared Japanese. A good start. The menu offered promise and I felt confident I was going to enjoy the meal. However - takeaway orders ring through to a number in the restaurant. The person I thought was the waiter was taking takeaway orders continually. This left no real opportunity to provide service to dinners. The best evidence of how this effects the eat-in customers is when I asked for the bill. There were only three tables occupied when I asked for my bill and the 'waiter' was so busy with the takeaway calls that it took 25 minutes to bring the bill once I'd got their attention. The food - I had Yaki Soba. It was stodgy, lacked the diversity or ingredients and attention to detail that's seen at other Japanese restaurants. My wife had a noodle soup dish which did look good. My son had a king prawn rice meal which was stodgy and tasteless. I often eat at Mizo in Brentwood and can't help comparing the two. Ding Dong doesn't come close re food or service. Sorry I really wanted to like this place but there's so much local competition this meal was such, I can honestly say I wont be going back. Maybe they were just swamped by take out orders it being Saturday. Maybe it's much better midweek? I wont be finding out.

We had a flyer through the door this evening and the menu looked good. I ordered a Their red beef curry which on the menu is supposed to contain aubergine, coconut milk, mint leaf... It had no aubergine and the sauce was glutinous and hard to say but did not seem to have coconut milk. It did have peppers and chopped asparagus! In Thailand a few years ago I ate many Thai curries and unfortunately this was a mile away from the traditional dish. We had other dishes as well and were underwhelmed. Surprised at all the glowing reviews here and question if they are genuine.Well for Thai food will stick to Thai people....places like Thai River and Suchothai.

My wife and I went to this place Saturday eveningAll I can say is that food wise this is as good as any West end China town placesPortions are large, fresh and very well presented.Healthy food not overdosed with salt or MSG4 sushi dishes were plenty for two people to share. If we go to Yo we normally share at least 14 to get the same amount of food!Only criticism is that they seemed to be overwhelmed with takeaway orders and that impacted on the service. They need an extra front of house staff member who concentrates on diners and has nothing to do with the takeaway side and I think this would draw in a lot more customers.Would I go back?Yes I am taking 6 of the family tonight. One thing missing is they don't seem to have a website.

Myself and my family ate in the restaurant for the first time in Jan 2015 and have since returned on several occasions and every time the food has been excellent. The sushi is fresh and well prepared and the same can be said for the range of other food on the menu. I would recommend the Pad Thai or Chicken Katsu which is easily better than Wagamama's. The service is always friendly particularly the owner Tony who has a great memory for faces and always makes you welcome. The only comment I would make is that if you eat in the restaurant on Sat be prepared to take your time as the service can be slower due to high number of take away orders Tony and his kitchen staff receive early evening. The food however never disappoints and my family love the place.

Our friends ordered some whilst at ours last night and it looked lovely and they said it was really good (they're big fans of Japanese food and have eaten well in Tokyo too). So this evening we dropped to pick up a take away ourselves, the place was fairly busy which is nice to see and the staff were very nice and polite. I had the chicken gyoza (which were some of the best I've eaten), the asparagus spears with teriyaki sauce + crispy shallots & sesame seeds and a portion of the chicken katsu rolls. All of the food was fantastic and presented really well, as was my girlfriends. We'll be back here asap with friends for a proper feast, highly recommend trying, don't be put off by the decor.

Went in to get some takeaway sushi - really pleased with it all, seemed fresh etc. This property always seems to do badly but i hope its different this time as sushi from waitrose/ M&s is not really sushi.I think they should drop the 'SUSHI' from the name as it offers alot more food than just sushi like wagamamas but people will not know this and therefore not go in to try.i hope it stays

Excellent japanese food. Good value for money. Takeaway Bento boxes were amazing, cleverly designed takeout packaging and delicious, hot food. Great friendly staff when eating in.

We love this place - have been twice to the restaurant and ordered twice as takeaway. As previous reviewers say the decor is bland and hasn't changed much from the previous incarnation which is a shame and can be off putting however the food is phenomenal! Particularly love the teriyaki aubergine and the spider rolls! The owner and his wife are super friendly however they definitely could do with a few more helping hands to speed up service in the kitchen/at the tables but it's still early days so I'm sure things will improve. We will continue to support this place and is a particularly great takeaway option in Upminster - delighted to see Japanese emerge on the scene!

Please don't be put off by the decor of this restaurant! We have ordered food twice now and on both occasions we were really impressed. We are a family who all love Japanese cuisine and especially sushi. We were shocked at the quality of the food. I would highly recommend the spider rolls and the Ebi Kastu Maki Rolls. The chicken katsu curry was also very good. The curry sauce was better than I expected. The food was so good on the second occasion I had to ring them and compliment them. My only criticism is decor. So unappealing. However after chatting to the friendly member of staff on the phone they insisted it's all early days. They are working on this. They are also happy to hear from customers. This restaurant must stay in our high street! Please give it a go and don't be put off with appearance.

We love Japanese food and were excited that a new one had opened up in our home town. We tried it out on Sunday night. We were the only customers in the restaurant (8pm on a Sunday) however the phone was constantly ringing with orders which is promising. Difficult to assess the atmosphere in an empty restaurant, but the owners were friendly and the decor is nice. We were a little put off by the mixture of Thai and Japanese food on the menu, we've always found a restaurant is usually good at one or the other. We can only comment on the Japanese food, as this is all we had. We enjoyed our starters, the tempura was nice, although a little heavy. The gyozas were excellent - really tasty and perfectly cooked. The miso soup is a very large helping and tasty. We tried some sushi and it was nice, but not excellent. Mains were ok, the terriyaki chicken wasn't perfect but it was nice, and the katsu was ok, although the chicken was a little dry. Overall, it is a nice addition to the high street for Japanese food, and superb value for money. I wish Trip Advisor would allow for a 'good' rating button as this is what the restaurant is, its 'good' but not very good, however it felt unfair to give it an average rating as it certainly wasn't. It's nice to see this type of place popping up in Upminster and I would wish it every success as I really don't want the high street swarmed with chain restaurants. We wil be back based on the value for money, excellent gyozas, more sushi options and to try some of the other dishes on the menu.

My wife and I visited the restaurant on Friday with an open mind. A concern to us was the vast menu and how this can be managed. However, the food was excellent, full of flavour, freshly cooked and nicely presented. One of the dishes was squid with celery and it was simply first class. The decor has not been changed too much, which I do think is a mistake, but this is a small family run restaurant offering fresh exciting cuisine and it deserves support and to be a success, otherwise we are left with chain restaurants with bland offerings. The owner and his wife are very professional and friendly, we will definitely return and would have no hesitation in recommending.

I was hugely impressed by the variety and quality on offer at this place. Although the decor hasn't changed since it was Vesuvio (many years back now) it is a fantastic dining experience with friendly staff and delicious food. You can select from a wide variety of different Asian cuisine, in addition to the Sushi option, with some great Thai and Japanese style dishes to choose from. My friend, who has eaten all over Japan, said that the ebi (prawn) gyoza was the best she's ever had. Delicious teriyaki chicken starters were followed by big tasty bowls of soup and noodles, with genuine high quality sushi as a side. Green tea ice cream was also spot on, not to mention the pots of tea that were continually refreshed. Waiter couldn't do enough for you. All in all, an excellent addition to the local area.

I visited this restaurant with my wife on opening week we tried the sushi ,Pad Thai and Taki udon and all the food was excellent the noodles were the best I've had. The food is freshly made to order and because of this you need to be prepared to wait for your meal also dishes do not come at the same time so if you are a large group some may be eating whilst others wait. Hopefully this will improve. On the night of my visit there was only one front of house and he was also taking takeaway orders at the expense of serving tables.I was given complimentary saki at the end of my meal which was a nice touch.I will definitely be visiting again to see if these teething problems have been resolved.

This is my go to restaurant if I'm craving a gourmet burger. I have tried a variety of items on their menu, which include: double chicken burger box, double beef burger box, special lamb burger, special butter chicken burger, chicken wings, lab chips, sauces, taco, doughnuts and others. Every single dish I've ordered has been absolutely delicious. The packaging they use is sustainable, wrapping the burgers in foil also ensures the food stays hot when being delivered. Food is exceptional, the accompaniments they add to the burgers compliment the flavours beautifully.

At around 7.15pm, I ordered cod and chips. The assistant pointed to some pieces of pre cooked fish and asked me to select. None of the fish looked great and so i asked for how long it had been cooked. She assured me ‘only a short time ago’. A five minute car journey home and I discovered that the fish was only luke warm. The batter wasn’t crispy but limp and disgusting. I thoroughly reheated it but hardly ate any of it. The chips were hot but lots of small hard overcooked bits of chips. I called the restaurant and they said that the next time they wouldn’t charge for the same order. Who in their right mind would return? At this time of night they are clearly more interested in selling off their pre cooked fish than caring about its quality or their customer experience. My advice is to keep well away from this restaurant.

After using Manzil for over 20 years it is with a heavy hart I write this, I would say that they have been either bought out or are using a very different Chef. It was my Daughters Birthday Saturday so ordered almost £100 of food when it arrived I asked "why we was not ordering from Manzil's" only to be told that it was, the chicken tikka main, consisted of 5 very small pieces of chicken, which were dry as a bone, no onions and if there was any juices from the chicken id say it had drunk it!! the whole meal was totally un edible and id say the vas majority of the food went in the bin, I tried 4 times to get through by phone to no answer then when they finally answered the phone was put down straight away After over 20 years of ordering at least once /twice a week I will never order from there again the food was worse than a ping and ding from Aldi and 10 times the price !! sorry Manzil but you've missed the mark here
