Waiter gave my daughter an ice cream off his own back. Appeared on bill. Didn’t want to argue so just paid contactless. Charged £10 too much but didn’t realise until we had left and checked my account. Always been the same. Not going back anymore.

Take away absolutely disgusting chicken could not cut it with a knife it was that dry, rang up to complain said they would give us discount on our next order ( that will definitely not be happening ) avoid avoid avoid Unless you like overcooked chicken and small portions

Very disappointed with the food ,Luke warm and very dry chicken bread was ok ,staff looked down in the dumps,I guess that's why the place was empty . Never again

The food was pretty average but the service and atmosphere wasn’t so good. The restaurant was quiet which didn’t help the atmosphere but the service was slow and the waiter didn’t look happy the whole time we were there.

Staying nearby for a business conference and went for a quick wander and stumbled across this lovely place. To start with it was quiet, but as expected for a Tuesday evening, but quickly became busier with what seemed liked regular customers. Service was really friendly and quick. The poppadom chutneys were amazing, naan lovely and fluffy and prawn balti to die for. The server (maybe the owner) was really friendly and perfectly attentive and was an excellent value for money. Would definitely come back if in this neck of the woods again!

Went there last night with 6 lads as we were working in the area, very nice, staff where friendly, booked just in case it was busy.Bill came too £ 200.00 which I thought was a bit expensive.But the food was nice and the company was good.

I went to the restaurant for my birthday with some of my family it was 9 o clock on a Saturday night and there was not many people in and the room felt really chilly. It had been a while since we were there and it will be a while before we go back because we were disappointed with the food and the place in general.

You must step inside this busy and vibrant quality Indian restaurant. It has a great selection of main dishes and the range of appetisers and sambals are tasty and authentic. The restaurant has a pleasant ambience and helpful staff who are eager to please, not just on your first visit. We ordered a favourite which is the spicy lamb Jalfrezi and also the handi meat dishes. The freshly baked indian breads are absolutely delicious. A little tip for the kitchen...please warm the plates and cover the breads so they don't go cold too quickly. Well done everyone we're back after Easter and so far we cannot fault this jewel in the crown of Dodworth.Thank you!

We didn't visit the restaurant so can't comment on that, but we did order one of the set meals for 2 as a takeaway and were very impressed. The service on the phone and at the door was excellent, the food itself was delicious and the portions were sufficient to feed two adults and two children. We'll certainly use you again.

Tastecard scam! AVOID THIS COMPANY. They take money out of your account even if you try to cancel. Make sure you cancel the dd with your bank as they will continue taking your money. Dishonest way of attracting customers.

We went mid week for our Tea and used my taste card which allows you to get 2 4 1 meals . The food was delicious, friendly staff .

Once again we've just had a lovely meal at The Original Dil Raj in Dodworth, Barnsley but once again they tried to overcharge us on the drinks. It has happened too many times for it to be a coincidence and I would like to see a management response regarding their policy for drinks charges. Even when we asked for the drinks to be checked the guy came up with the same figure and it was only when we quoted the exact charges for the drinks, as on the menu, that he came to the correct amount. There was no apology and he was probably just peeved that he'd been caught out. It wouldn't stop us going again as the food is really good and it has a nice ambience but all I would say is CHECK YOUR BILL.

Went with friends on a busy Saturday night. Service was good and so was the food and atmosphere. I was treating my friends to this meal - however when I went to pay I was told that the credit card machine was out of order. I didn't have enough cash to pay for the meal - so my friends had to dip into their pocket. This was embarrassing and made me suspicious. What if none of us had any cash? I do know that cash payments are not easily accountable - no record of them is there? Tax man take note?

The food has always been delicious each time we eat here, and yes, it's not the cheapest curry around, but worth it. The Chicken Tikka Rezala is my favourite and not something found on a regular menu. The best naans and always cheerfully served.

We mentioned meerkat offer when booking as required by dil raj terms. When we were seated we were told that we would have to buy 2 starters and 2 mains just to get a free main, no mention of this when booking. So not the advertised offer of 2 for 1 on starters and mains. OK food, won’t be rushing back and very expensive drinks £5.25 for a single amaretto and a splash of coke.

This is a typical Bangladesh restaurant. The menu has a few variations on it bit it is basically the usual food. For the quality of the food I thought it was quite expensive with the extras adding a lot to the bill - nearly £30 for a single person, one course meal with one drink and poppadoms. The service was quite slow bit reasonably pleasant. I probably won't go back there again.

Visited here with a friend who had a meerkat deal. The staff were unaware of how this worked so we had to wait until they called the manager to get it cleared. I’m glad we had this offer or I would have been disappointed. We both had the mixed kebab starter which was very average. In my opinion it was over priced for what we were served. The main curries were ok but nothing special & I wouldn’t rush back here.

We arrived tonight at 6:30pm for a meal for 7 adults and a baby. My dad has read some great reviews and we were all looking forward to eating there. Upon arrival we noted that it was cold, but hoped it would heat up in the actual restaurant. We go out regularly and love Indian food and we’re prepared to travel to new places, so it would have been nice to find a new “favourite”. We all had starters, mine was onion Bajhi, which was ok, very crispy but ok. Oh at this point, I should say that we had waited an hour, seated at our table before anyone came to take the order! AND the place was freezing. We asked for the heating to be turned up four times....the first time, it was, but after a few minutes, it was cold again.....in the end, my friend put her coat on! I ordered a vegetable paneer dish and unfortunately with the over powering taste of coconut it wasn’t very nice. There was also no paneer in it, however it was the waiter putting his finger into it to point out what he thought was paneer after I complained, that really put me off!!!To be fair, after complaining, the manager, who was lovely, did swop my meal and gave me some extra vegetable rice, which was good. My dad was the one who really enjoyed his food and said he’d eat it again. For the rest of us, “average” was the description. My replaced meal of Veg Paneer Jalfrezi was made of a sauce with tinned tomatoes which weren’t even chopped and there was no heat to it. My mum said her meal was bland. When the bill came, it was extortionate at £190 for seven of us. We had seven starters, seven main courses, five portions of rice, two naan breads and two drinks each. This is Dodworth not Sheffield or London!!!! It certainly was not worth nearly £30 each and there is no way we had food to that value or taste! Overall, the manager was lovely. The rest of the staff were inattentive apart from the young woman taking drinks orders. However the place was FREEZING (we were told the under floor heating was broken.....in December??????? Fix it then please!!!) and the food was mediocre at best and over priced at worst. Totting up the bill, there were some mistakes. We added it up from the menu and found it to be £20 less. I then advised we were paying what we had added it up to and got no argument. I notice other customers have said to check the bill, so wonder if that was because it wasn’t right in the first place!!!!! Anyway, unfortunately although the company was brilliant and we had a great time with good friends, it won’t be a place we visit again. We have undoubtedly been spoiled by our favourite place (The Kashmiri Aroma, in Sheffield) but nonetheless we are willing to try new places, but we won’t be back in the future. Shame as it could have potential but spoils itself with charging too much and not putting the heating on!!!!!! ☹️☹️☹️☹️☹️

We went for our bosses leaving do & had a fab night. To say there was a rowdy crowd they were really hospitable & couldn't do enough for us. We had a set menu organised to make things easier & it was great. We had mixed starter which had a lovely bhaji plus chicken tikka, lamb kofta plus poppadoms n dips. Then 3 curries, chicken tikka, lamb balti & a hot one?! Plus lovely Bombay potatoes, rice & naan. We had lots & everything was good. The waiters were great very efficient & polite. There's a great atmosphere & we had a ball! We had one awkward person & they did everything to accommodate them so all good!

This restaurant was always highly recommended to us before we first visited some years ago and since then have visited on a few occasions. Its somewhere we usually only visit as a special treat however we decided to come for a week day meal on evening recently. The food was as absolutely delicious as it has been before when we have visited before and the service was great. This Indian is always quite pricey compared to other Indians in the area and on this occasion I did feel we were charged a lot for what we had however we didn't question it (maybe we should have). Overall we really enjoyed our experience. We will definitely return and would definitely recommend to others (but just warn them that could be expensive).

Unable to make a living from a failing restaurant business so now trying their running a public car park with threats of clamping. Shows a lack of community spirit for the neighbourhood.

Upon arrival I stated that I would be using meerkat meals and the server(young girl) said I'll just go check with boss as they run loads of different offers. different server (a man) asked if we had booked in I said no sorry I didn't realise we had too. The guy sits us down went over and check with his boss came back over and said you normally have to book in but he said it's fine this time but you have to order starters and mains to qualify. On the meerkat meals website it says nothing about having to order both but I let that sly as not a biggie. After are food (witch wasnt great) we asked for the bill witch was hand written and really bad writing and could hardly make it out but figured out they had only nocked off a main and not a starter as we bought 2 so it qualified for it with the offer we were using. I questioned this with the owner and he said they don't nock off both starters and mains they only nock off one of the main. I showed them the website witch states 'starters mains and deserts for up to 6 people' he said yes but we don't do that. He said this is why you have to book in advance because I call you up and tell you that we don't offer the full discount. After going round and round in circles about the t&cs; with the guy about how he has signed up to this offer and he isn't honoring it I said to my partner look just pay but we won't be coming back.

I had 5 pieces of chicken only in my curry. Other members in the party said there was no spice in their curry.very bland. Total bill for 9 people a whopping 276 pounds. We paid it but that seems extortionate. Wont hurry back

Fancied a curry, Bosworth was local and we had heard good reports about this restaurant. Although it was tuesday, it was busy so that was a good sign. Tables were clean, waiting staff were very efficient and helpful. Had poppadoms with the chutney tray which was plentiful. Had chicken tikka massala, mushroom rice, sag aloo. Large Cobra beer and coffee to finish. For two of us it was £49. Reasonable but not cheap. Excellent attentive service and good tasty food. Would definitely return.

Came for a meal and was not disappointed. Food was lovely , best Indian food I've ever tasted. Staff very friendly and ever so funny trying to get our drinks correct. Overall a brilliant evening.

This is (in my opinion) the best Indian restaurant in the UK. The food is excellent with loads of choice but because I have a favourite main course I always order the same dish. There were 5 of us last night celebrating a birthday and the welcome we received was lovely and genuine. We were given plenty of time to order and eat our poppadoms and starters - It’s nice to relax between courses and not feel rushed - If you want fast food go somewhere else (MacDonalds perhaps).

We didn't book a table, but I would recommend it. The food is excellent and flavoursome. We will definitely return.

Where do I start? The sullen expression on the face of the owner when we walked in was a bad omen. 1 hour later we had exactly one poppadum each. eventually we had our order taken and after another 45 minutes some food started to arrive. Most of it was lukewarm or cold in fact dangerously so. Several of the orders were incorrect. My main course was a “chef’s special” basically lots of partly cooked onion some sort of oily sauce and a few bits of tough lamb. There was a drinks order completely forgotten about. We were then significantly overcharged. Overall a truly horrible experience. While all this was going on the kitchen managed to deliver several takeaway orders presumably while we had to wait. Who is writing the good reviews about this place? I can’t believe they were at the same establishment. Terrible avoid!!!

Absolutely fantastic service, super friendly. I ordered the chicken tikka jalfrezi which was very hot... much hotter than expected since it’s a dish I’ve had regularly in other restaurants.. struggled to eat the sauce.. picked the meat out. Not marked down for this since it’s personal taste!

We were in the are visiting family for my sister's birthday and a party of 9 of us visited for a meal to celebrate. The restaurant was quite empty when we arrived and we got speedy service. The food came out quickly and was very tasty. One of our party realised they had ordered a meal that had an ingredient they were allergic to, but the staff could not have been more accommodating in changing it. Two meals came out far spicier than anticipated and we asked for yogurt as my niece could not manage to eat it (it was a meal she has had before but is not usually that spicy). She added the yogurt but ended up leaving her meal. Mostly though, we enjoyed our food and the staff were very friendly, in particular one who called himself the Indian Danny De Vito!

My Wife and I eat here on a regular basis and have never had a bad experience. Watch out for the special offers on the internet - 2for 1, 3 for 2 etc.

We have been here on several occasions and always left feeling disappointed. The food does not match the general ambience. The food seems bland and very formulaic British interpretations of what it should be like. Value for money is also hard to attain, I have felt that it’s too expensive for what it is.

We were shown to our seats, ordered drinks and our meal. We had a drink each, one poppadom, one starter, 2 mains a rice and a bread. The food was okay but we have had more dishes and much better quality food for less money. Don't get me wrong the chicken was good and my partner enjoyed his liver starter, it was just expensive for an average indian restaurant.

After a break from Dil Raj due to being overcharged on a takeaway and terrible food, we decided to give it another go this evening for a takeaway.

We have been coming to the Dil Raj for 10 years and in that time we have struggled to find a better Indian We have seen it change over the years but one thing has stayed the same the great food I’m not a great Cobra fan and implore Kingfisher or Mongoose return at sometime just this little things This place never lets you down

Visited last night for the first time along with neighbours who had been before and highly recommended the place. My wife and I were not disappointed.

Went for date night with my boyfriend and as always the food was amazing and the atmosphere was quiet yet welcoming. Definitely recommend and will be visiting again soon

We doubt that we'll be going again although the food was very good. We booked for a table of 5 for 7.30 pm on a Saturday night but the restaurant cannot have been geared up for a being busy as the speed of service was embarrassing. Why don't restaurant staff communicate better with customers to let them know when there's a delay? (If you ignore customers who are waiting patiently for attention they just get frustrated and angry.) We did get served drinks on arrival but had to ask for our food order to be taken after 40 minutes of waiting, we then had to wait another 30 minutes for our starters and had to ask for those too. The food was good, can't complain there but the speed of service and neglect by the staff spoilt the whole evening. So don't go on a busy Saturday night is my advice!

Having lived in the village for a few years and going here recently a few times I was really looking forward to it.

Myself and my husband had the opportunity for a child-free night a couple of weeks ago and decided to go for tea here. Really enjoyed our meal's, especially the chicken tikka sizzler starters.

We visit the Dilraj at least once a month because it is by far the best Indian restaurant for miles. The staff are the friendliest you could wish for and the food is excellent.

It is always good coming back here. Their service was relaxed, not pushy. Yes there was a bit of a wait but it seemed really busy for a wednesday and we hadnt booked! Ive not yet had a chicken tikka jalfrezi that is as flavoursome as the dil raj's!! If you want cheap fast food this is not the place to go, but for great quality cuisine it definitely is! They also honour an NHS discount if you are not using any other offer.

The Dil Raj used to be one of my favourite restaurants and so, not having been for a couple of years, I was looking forward to eating here.

Ordered a takeaway on line , had to wait 1h 45 mins !!

We came here last night for my husbands birthday. It’s fair to say there was nothing bad about he food we ate.

We’ve been here twice in a month and the place is freezing !! The radiators re barley warm and a gasfire going nr the bar ... it’s freezing ! So much that u want to eat and leave ,

Really nice Indian/Bangladesh restaurant and with beevoucher you get 25% off food so the cost is very competitive. Food is tasty and full of flavour and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. My only issue was that the restaurant was very cold, there was a small heater but it didn’t really help. We have visited before and we wouldn’t be put off going again however maybe not until the weather perks up and I don’t have to leave my jacket on!

The decor isn’t the best. The food is very good but the service was absolutely terrible. Took an hour and a half to get our main course. I’ve been before and had terrible service but thought as it was 2 years ago that I’d give it another try. Won’t be going ever again.

A set meal for new years eve-- not good.Bland and tasteless,very disappointing for diners,easy option for manager.Shame as we have always enjoyed food from here,won't be going again on any public holiday ,should have had a take away,then you can order what you wanted not what manager wanted you to have..

I have eaten here numerous times and the majority have been very good. The waiting staff are always friendly and accommodating. The food is usually excellent. On a couple of occasions it hasn’t lived up to expectations from previous visits food wise but this hasn’t put me off as it has still been good. All in all a fantastic Indian Restuarant. Nicely set out, good staff and very nice food. Worth a visit.

Had yet another visit to the Dil Raj, having had many a curry from here, I was a little disappointed by this offering, just tasted a little bland but aye I try again in the near future

If only they would be truthful when ordering a takeaway if its going to take an hour thats fine im prepared to wait but its when they say its 30 minutes but ends up being an hour in total. Just tell people the truth it’s worth the wait. People are leaving with a bitter taste but if you were honest about times the food would speak for itself. We will not be returning.

Absolutly disgusted... we orderd for delivery to take an over an hour which is stated for it to arrive and be absolutly cold for us to then after rewarm.. i went on live chat and they said they would phone that night but no phone call at all. Any other restaurant would offer refund or send out a fresh! Definatly wont be ordering again!!!

We have had many meals from Dil Raj. Last time we didn’t get all we ordered and paid for but tonight we gave them another chance. Wish we hadn’t. When it finally arrived it was freezing!!!! £25.00 wasted. We won’t be ordering any more from DilRaj that’s for sure. Absolute rubbish. Don’t waste your money.

I am always sorry when I see reviews which are less than excellent for this, my favourite Indian, in the Barnsley area. Indeed I judge Indians in the UK by the DR measuring stick. When three of us went a couple of weeks ago we ate virtually everything and the little bit we took home brought back a happy memory the next day. Puris are particularly fab and the naan breads have just the flavour and puffy lightness I adore. Can’t wait to go again, even though it is a 40 minute drive.

We've been a few times now and it's really good food and friendly staff. Really pleased we have a local place like this where we've got a good choice of excellent quality food and vegetarian options!

This place never fails, food always delicious from mild curries to the Chefs signature dishes, my favourite Chicken Tikka Garlic Balti beautiful. Visited again on Sunday with 7 family members, every starter and main was correct and enjoyed by all.. Staff as always very friendly and the Cobra lager goes down a treat. One of my favourites this place.

We went for a meal at Dil Raj as a family. The food was ok on a par with most Indian Restaurants nothing special. When the bill arrived I nearly had a heart attack!! No way was the meal worth the just short of £180 we paid (4 adults and 3 small children). No wonder the place was empty!! Sorry you need to reduce your prices before I would return!!

Cuando una mujer (En un total antojo) decide que sería agradable salir un curry no hay escasez de opciones. Cada y cada ciudad y pueblo tiene una casa de curry o dos, así que para destacar una casa curry tiene que ser algo especial. Algunos intento este con decoración ostentosa y razzamataz (tales como el tandoori Hut en Barnsley - que tiene la decoración pero mal servicio y comida mediocre) algunas con excelente comida y personal. El Dil de Raj es felizmente este último.

Visitamos Raj última noche para Dil de una comida familiar y era precioso! La comida era fabulosa, platos principales de todo el mundo, eran deliciosos, estábamos en una gran fiesta, pedí mucho entre nosotros, pero todo llegó en el momento bueno y el servicio era realmente bueno!

La comida es fantástica, el servicio es genial, el personal es servicial y educado a usted y las bebidas son buenas. Realmente lo recomiendo a parejas de cualquier familia o amigos. Este restaurante tiene 5 higiene así que sé la comida está comiendo es mantenido en un área limpia. En general, recomiendo este maravilloso restaurante, sabroso.

Llegó aquí un tiempo en un 'Groupon' oferta. Éramos 2 x parejas - mi amigo intentó pedir agua - fue rápidamente derribadas- 'Usted debe pedir una bebida de primera! '. Mi amigo me dijo: "yo iba a pedir una copa, pero no es aceptable para pedir agua? '. En ningún lugar de la t y c a s de la oferta dijo que necesitaba pedir una copa, pero nos van a pedir uno de todos modos! Hay necesidad de esto?

He visitado este restaurante en la fecha de la comida y el personal eran de primera clase tenía pollo tikka masala, es por lejos el más sabroso tikka que he tenido. He visitado este restaurante por 15 años y sólo he sido decepcionado en dos ocasiones. No puedo esperar a volver. He probado otros a lo largo de los años, pero ninguno se compara.

No ha sido aquí por un tiempo ya de tener una mala experiencia y después de leer algunas críticas negativas. Pero pensamos que lo otro ir ya que solía ser muy agradable, así que probamos un para llevar esta noche y quedé muy decepcionado. Tanto curry solo sabía de la sal y dejamos más. Volvimos a la Dil Raj después de una ausencia de casi un año y estaban encantados de encontrar que el personal hospitalario era tan cálido y amable como antes. La comida que nos gustó la vez anterior era, si cabe, aún mejor y la comida era deliciosa. Nuestro camarero era eficiente y servicial con las opciones que hizo del extenso menú. Volveremos pronto.

El personal es encantador, la comida es genial. Comer aquí sobre una base regular, pero no entusiastas en la facturas pormenorizada y el hecho de que no se puede estar seguro de que el personal que la intención del Consejo para están recibiendo. Pero más semanas, lo cual dice mucho.

The atmosphere is wonderful and peaceful. The service is top class and the food is to die for. If you get chance to go for meals do go you won't be disappointed.

As always excellent food with very attentive staff made the night a pleasant experience. Even when busy the standard remained to a high standard.

Visited with friends when we were in the area. Staff are excellent and the food is superb. All enjoyed. Worth a visit but worth booking especially at weekends as it does get busy.

The Original Dil Raj is a favourite restaurant of mine which I visit a lot when I'm celebrating or want a nice fresh take away , the Dil Raj has the most polite staff and mouth watering food which everyone wants these days. As this is my hfavourite Indian restaurant I can recommend this delightful place with absolute confidence.

He vuelto a Dil de Raj última semana habíamos visitado hace un par de meses cuando visitamos a la familia. Soy un gran fan de curry y este es uno de los mejores que he probado. La desintoxicación compare con otros buenos restaurantes que comer. El personal es muy amable y atento. No me puedo quejar!

Este es el mejor lugar de curry que me he comido. La comida no nadar en grasa como en otros lugares. Los camareros recordar su anterior visita. Se puede decir el curry son buenos, saben maravilloso, la cantidad de especias. Siempre dispuesto a cambiar de platos para satisfacer necesidades. Ir en la semana y hay un 25% de su oferta en el restaurante o de 3 por 2 en comida para llevar.

Habiendo vivido en Barnsley para la mejor parte de 47 años! Había oído algunas críticas mixtas sobre el Dil Raj - uno de los dos restaurantes indios en Dodworth. De todos modos, yo estaba con amigos en Dodworth para bebidas, y decidimos tomar un bocado para comer (como siempre lo hacen!). Can't believe we've lived here in Barnsley for 7 years and only discovered the Dil Raj this year! Excellent food and great service.

Been to hundreds of places but I have to say this is by far the best one I've had. A prawn madras in here will leave you wanting some more even if your full. The rice was fresh and tasty. Reasonable price and excellent service.
