I can only leave an honest review, the place was dirty, food very poor quality and service rubbish. Took 40 minutes for food to arrive, my husbands breakfast first, then mine 15 minutes later. His was cheap, greasy and just nasty. I ordered a cheese toastie, 2 pieces of hard burnt toast arrived and I thought he has forgotten to put the cheese on. Looked again and it was cheese spread! Complained and he didn’t want to know, will not be back or recommend.

I had breakfast here twice and each time the food was well cooked & great value for money. Service was top rate, friendly and helpful. Good, honest food for all, if you are need to eat, drink or take a break then this is the place to stop. On-street parking is available all around.

After being stuck on M6 for 2 1/2 hrs between junction 16 and 15 because of a 2 lorry accident, followed by a long stretch of crawling traffic because of roadworks which then prevented us leaving the M6 at J 14, we were desperate for a quick stop off for refreshments and toilet break, so left the motorway at the next junction and came across this cafe in Penkridge. The name made us think it would be cosy and welcoming. Sadly we were disappointed to find that despite government guidelines there was no social distancing of tables or screens, but at time of entry there were no other customers, so as we were desperate we went in. No Test and Trace details asked for. The toilet had no sanitiser or hand towels. Owner/only staff member present was not wearing mask and did not keep 2m distance. We were not reassured in any way in regard to Covid hygiene. We ordered drinks and a sausage/bacon sandwich each as we still had 2 hour plus journey ahead so needed refreshments. We were concerned but decided to stick it out. I was armed with own Dettol wipes which I used on the table, and we sanitised our hands before touching the crockery etc. The cafe was not taking part in the government 50% off scheme, which I realise is optional, but why not? (It was a Monday) We left as soon as we finished our refreshments, again sanitising our hands once outside. I enjoy giving good reviews and are sad not to be able to do so in this instance. Sorry, but because of the current Covid situation we cannot recommend this cafe.

This is a lovely cafe, it is clean and the service is friendly. We ordered teacakes which were good but the 'butter' with them hadn't seen the inside of a cow, it was spread and really awful. Such a shame because everything else was okay

I think the positives definitely outweigh the negatives with this place. I must confess we walked past it a few times as it does, to be brutally honest, look a bit of a dump. The weather was awful so we just went for it in the end. Once inside it doesn’t look much better as all the dark wood furniture is just a tad depressing. I’m sure that they are going for a period look given the name of the café but it didn’t quite work for me – perhaps the miserable weather didn’t help. The positives start with the owner who is really welcoming. It was obvious that he has a lot of regulars that he knows by name. Even though we had never been there before we were greeted just as warmly. It was a nice touch to have chocolate digestive biscuit with the cup of tea. It was also nice that the tea bag was left in so you can leave it to stew until you achieve the required “builder’s tea” strength. Our food was enjoyable, reasonably priced and served promptly. If we pass this way again we will make sure that we have time to stop off here for another breakfast.

The service is amazing! This was my first visit here with my college class and the man was very friendly and welcoming. The food price was excellent. I had a ham toastie and it was very nice. We were offered a lolli when we left the shop. A nice little tea shop, amazing service and I will definitely come back here again!

The plus points. The guy who served us, was friendly. The place was clean. The cups, plates ECT were clean, which isn't always the case. However, as soon as u walk in the smell of fried food hits you. We should have turned around and left then, but decided to give it a go anyway. We ordered cream tea. It's the first time we've ever had cream tea with squirty tin cream. Wasn't that pleasant. The tea was ok though. I wouldn't go back nor would I recommend. There's another cafe just up the road that looks to be much better.

My wife and I visited Penkridge yesterday because we have not been there for a while and fancied a look at the market - always open on a Bank Holiday. We knew that this cafe would be open so decided to try it out. Well - it's a brilliant little place! The boss was there and greeted us in a very friendly and business like way. Quiet due to the weather so had the pick of the tables. Very clean, a good menu with an all day breakfast, which my wife ordered and I had good old eggs, sausages, beans and chips. The food was freshly prepared and excellent value for money: decent bacon and sausages - always a good test of an eaterie, in our opinion. Plenty of well cooked chips, well cooked eggs and great toast. Cola for me and decent coffee for my wife, which came with 2 chocolate bikkies! A pleasure to be there and will visit again.

I am quite surprised by some of the recent negative reviews I have just read, my husband and I stopped here and found it to be ideal. The gentleman taking orders and waiting was polite and courteous, something no longer found in most establishments now. The food we ordered was hot and to an acceptable standard, and not expensive. In response to earlier reviews, welltravelled did not take his vegan son so what is he complaining about ? If it was so awful why did he not complain at the time of his visit ? I certainly would have done ! It's easy to complain on here, but if you feel that you need to write a bad review at least do so after you have personally conveyed your feelings to the manager or owner of an establishment.

! My wife and I were returning from a week-end in Chester and the M6 was blocked so travelled down towards Wolverhampton and stopped in Penkridge hoping to get a cuppa. Fortunately we found this place. Despite smelling of breakfast fare when we went in - the owner was friendly and kind - he offered to get our drinks while we looked at the menu and brought our coffee and Tea - with a chocolate biscuit each at no charge - how nice was that? We decided to have a toasted tea cake each and were served with a teacake as big as a small plate - lovely and fresh with butter and jam provided.

More of a tea room, or coffee shop, this is only a small place serving teas coffees and snacks. We called in mid afternoon, only had coffee and a toasted teacake, both of which were really very good-just what we needed. -As a previous Poster has said, a digestive biscuit arrived with our coffee. Stumbled upon this quaint little café this morning and decided to pop in for a quick bite to eat. It had a selection of locals come in who were all greeted by name by the staff. We had our baby boy with us who naturally got all of the attention.Coffee was nice and the service quick. I only had a bacon sarnie so not a meal to set the world alight. As bacon sarnies go though it did it's job nicely. The selection of bottled sauces on the table was nice as far too many places have sachets nowadays. The other half had a cream tea and her only gripe was that it didn't come with clotted cream and was served whipped cream instead. Granted, it's not in Cornwall but to me a cream tea is not a proper cream tea with out clotted cream. Other than that, a top little café and I'll definitely pop in there again.

I don't expect latte to come from a sachet and be given to me with the powder undesolved floating in the top. A tiny frontage with traditional bowed windows got our curiosity. We entered this small establishment intending to have a coffee and cake, but temptation made us order a lunch. Absolutely perfect lamb pie and the best chips ever, piping hot and a good serving, enough for us little people. We had coffee and a lovely treacle sponge, very nice. It seemed home made. The singing proprietor and his wife cooked and served the meals. A lucky find and highly recommended for a true English experience. Very popular with the locals as well. The decor was warm and cosy, with red flowered wallpaper and poppy designs on the table covers. Plenty of knick jacks and pictures on the wall. The proprietor was very helpful, as when we asked him about taxis, he have us a number and it turned out to be much cheaper than the others I had looked at online.

This is a great little place. It's only got about six tables but it serves a cracking all-day breakfast for £5.10. Music is mid 1960's - Petula Clark, Cliff Richard and The Who. It's not really my idea of a "tea shoppe" just a straight forward little cafe where you are made welcome. And bang in the middle of town too. Yesterday, there were three American ladies there. I wonder if they came all the way from the good ol' US of A just to come to see the delights of Penkridge. But they seemed happy. It might get busy on Market Day.

Popped into the Dickens of a tea Shoppe, on a visit to our area of our youth, after a previous days travelling with little food. What we took to be an average cafe, were cheered at the greeting from the owner, who made us feel very welcome and at ease straight away. The cafe is small but well cared for and supplied freshly cooked food, hot and presented well. We enjoyed the visit so much we made a point of calling again on our way back home. Would certainly recommend it for those not in need of a full blown restaurant.

It is so nice to find a cosy cafe where you are well looked after and given a very warm welcome. I saw a varied mixture of people visiting there, from builders to families to elderly folk and all were nicely served. Nothing was too much trouble and food cooked to order with requests catered for if not on menu. Park right outside and enjoy a proper cuppa and traditional cafe food at its best.

Having used the cafe next door and not being impressed, I decided to get my breakfast sandwich to takeaway before leaving for my journey home-so glad I did, what a breakfast it was!!! Being a pig I ordered the sandwich king special - what a sandwich! I could taste the difference in quality and was dead impressed. Took a homemade sausage roll back with me too, not that I could eat it until the evening but it gives Greggs a run for their money for sure. Back in the area in Nov so will be stopping off again to maybe try one of their lunch time specials.

Beautifully decorated, warmly welcomed- and that when it ends The food was very poor. Tiny over priced portions, no side salad. Fish finger sandwich, hardly any filling and what was there was overcooked and crunchy with a meagre portion of chips. Such a shame as the staff are exceptionally good and the interior is beautiful .
