Lovely stay, we were a group of 10 (and our dog Ollie), and stayed in the annexed accommodation, where we all enjoyed en suite accommodation, and a functional kitchen with great lounge area, with the biggest dinner table ever, King Arthur would be proud. The accommodation was perhaps a little tired in places, but the level of cleanliness was superb and couldn’t be faulted. The pub came in early on Saturday to provide our breakfast baps, which were delicious and set us up for a day exploring, excellent hosts who couldn’t do enough for us. We popped into the pub on a couple of nights, and enjoyed drinks around the log fire on the first night, before eating there on the second night. Service was superb, especially given we were such a large group, and thoroughly recommend the pies, both the steak and ale, and chicken and mushroom were delicious. Thank you to you and all your staff

We were hungry and the venue we had attended that day had no cooked lunches available. Having passed by this pub on several occasions, we decided to give it a try . First impressions were OK and the staff were friendly and helpful. At £16.00 for Pie chips and peas, we would expect something quite special. (We are familiar with an excellent version of this item for little more than half this price) Sadly, despite the high price, the food did not come up to expectations. What we got was a "portion of pie" and a portion of peas. The chips however, were extremely grim, being soggy and limp and not at all palatable. Interestingly, they were a good colour. We both left the chips and departed still hungry. We failed to understand how anyone in the food industry could make such a mess of a simple item. We did not wish to spoil our day by complaining. However, I had not realised the price at the time, as my wife had ordered, or I would certainly have strongly complained at £32 for such a poor serving. In future we will continue to pass by.

Oh dear, such a shame we decided to treat our grandchildren to a meal but so disappointed with the food. Steak and ale pie was sent back because it was rock hard, both the meat and pastry - obviously over microwaved. 2nd portion was better but arrived after most had finished eating. Hunters chicken was dry and hard round the edge and the plate was swimming in bbq sauce, mash had nothing to help it, no butter or parsley or gravy and went cold quickly. Really thought there should be more veg offered as just peas didnt really make the meal more than standard cafe food. At £16 each adult meal it was overpriced for what we had, The childrens food was fine but it was just pasta and cheese sauce so not much could go wrong, Although we were cosidering the Sunday roast we will eat elsewhere.

Stopped off while having a drive round the peak district and stumbled across this pub. It was very welcoming and easily accessible for me as I'm in a wheelchair. The staff couldn't be more friendly and the food was hot and all homemade. Would definitely go again !!

We stayed at the campsite for our wedding anniversary weekend. We found the little camping area at the back of the pub to be really nice, They have a static caravan that is there for the toilets to be used by campers and a little shop, that also have a coffee and burger bar at the back too. We found it relaxed and the atmosphere was lovely. The staff were really nice especially young Anabel. We also had some nice conversations with local people. The food we found to be well presented and very tasty. We will go back and hopefully take a group of our cosplayer friends as well

Thought we would go (family of 4) to the Devonshire Arms. It’s only 10 mins from where we live in Buxton. Staff were welcoming on arrival, it was busy and we hadn’t booked but they were happy to squeeze us in. The food was delicious. I had Pie, my Husband Steak, kids had burgers which looked amazing and we all really enjoyed it. Locals friendly too. It’s a lovely little village and I noticed that they had also had a little takeaway van that sold burgers, bacon butties etc so if you’re passing through or out walking, it would be great to stop off and get a snack! Can’t wait to return for a Sunday Dinner soon.

Rude and spiteful landlady. I really enjoyed the time here with my friends but her attitude towards damage to my car in her carpark was shocking. She promised to get back to me- never did and left sarcastic remarks to reviews on other platforms. Reviews are objective and subjective, based in experience and therefore an opinion. If you can't take them don't run a public facing business. My review is reflective of my experience, others may have had better fortune than I. I don't know why sue just wouldn't have a conversation with me like an adult after I made attempts to contact her. Hay hum. Good luck to her. Trying to use previous reviews as evidence as defamation of my character is a very juvenile attitude to have and is reflective of an attitude of deflection to responsibility.

The pub is only open Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Opening hours in the week are 12.00 to 3pm then from 6pm to 10.30pm. Weekends the pub is open all day. We stayed in the campsite just around the corner, arriving at 4pm and waited until 6pm to have dinner and a drink. The menu was limited but I do like a homemade pie and the wife enjoys lamb and both were on the menu. Drinks were reasonably priced as we waited for our food. I had asked to change peas for baked beans, which I was told was not a problem. When the food arrived I had been given peas but was told the baked beans would be brought seperate as the fault was in the kitchen. Normally pies come in a dish, either on the plate or on the side but this came served on the plate as though taken from a big pie dish in the kitchen, and to be honest the portion was not big.The wifes lamb steak was chewy and she did not manage to eat parts of it. I am not a great fan of desserts but the wife often enjoys the dessert more than the main meal. Unfortunately the chocolate brownie was hard and was very hard to cut into. I asked the waitress to warm up the brownie in the hope this would soften it up. It returned 5 minutes later warm but not a lot softer but she did get an extra scoop of ice cream. Dinner plus a couple of drinks brought the bill to just short of £50 which is not bad for a meal out with drinks but the whole package would not tempt me back.

The food was vile . The burgers where dry and the gammon some of my family ordered was raw, cause we was in a group they made us have a set menu which had mostly vegan stuff on which non of us wanted so if you want food here don’t have it and if you want something that’s not on the set menu they complain like I ordered a Cajun chicken burger and it was a massive problem just to sprinkle some seasoning on it and it wasn’t even a proper chicken burger it’s was just chicken breast on a cheap cob with no sauce which was so dry. So if your thinking about coming here don’t get the food just get the drinks cause if you ask for a sandwich they might complain about making it.

A huge thank you to the landlord & landlady who opened their doors 6am for the stranded Man Utd fans that had been stuck on a coach all night due to the horrendous snow. My dad ( 71 years young) and my son being two of the stranded passengers. The tea/coffee and food they cooked was much appreciated, along with the warmth the pub offered after spending a night on a coach. Kindness at its best. ♥️🖤🤍

Just a massive shout out for the landlady & landlord of this pub. Has a coach load of 61 stranded passengers over the peaks due to heavy snowfall. Thursday night the 9th March. We had been on coach from 11pm all the through the night 200 yards from this place. Upon contacting them at around 5.30am On the Friday morning via mobile number and leaving a message they very kindly rang back within 10 mins to open up for us once they had got up and was ready. To then supply 61 hungry & thirsty passengers with free tea/coffee & hot food free of charge plus others trapped in cars in the long stretch of road outside. What a amazing Gesture by these folk. We could not leave without paying so had a collection amongst everybody onboard... 5 star customer service from us all... Will return again soon to say yet again a massive help & thanks to them...

Peak Forest and Old Dam are the sorts of small villages that one drives through and never stops at...so this time we stopped and mooched around the place. We came in the Devonshire for a quick drink as it looked inviting from the outside. We sat by the log burner stove on the sofas and was very very cozy but the rest of the pub is filled with cheap Ikea furniture, unusual decorating and a bar area that is far too modern for this place. It was a little bit sad as I think this place has had successive landlords who have "done their bit" but just left it a mish mash of bizarre old, oldish and modern. Ideally this place would do well if it went back to its old fashioned roots I think. I overheard a conversation saying a new landlord with a track record was coming in...so hopefully he can make this a nice pub again. That said, the food seemed expensive but the locals were eating and enjoying...so that is a plus. The barman was very pleasant and it was a nice place to chill for half an hour.

Absolutely appalled by the service we received this weekend. Booked for an evening meal for a hen weekend months in advance, as it was the local pub to where we were staying. We phoned up in advance as we had a member of the party who has complex dietary requirements and told not a problem at all! We arrived to find a very rude manager who rolled her eyes and suggested the lady could eat cereal and almond milk! (Not so funny when it’s announced infront of pub full of strangers) Once the party had ordered, our meals arrived quickly but not surprising as the chicken was raw!!! Two of the girls cut into their chicken Kiev which was practically still alive on their plate. We fetched the manager who gave no apology and kept claiming they had probed the chicken. Meals replaced and a bottle of wine for an apology given between 12 ladies - accompanied with ‘this is so you forget to give us a bad review!’ Once I came to pay the bill the manager was nowhere to be seen, plates cleared by another waitress. It felt like she was now avoiding any potential confrontation and I’m not surprised as we were still charged for our raw meals! Absolutely shocking service and disgusting food. We were very lucky no one got seriously ill.
