Desi Tawa in Derby

I visited here with a couple of my friends some time ago and have only just got round to doing my review. My friends and I visited when the resteraunt was empty so we were showed to our table and service was nice and quick. When visiting Desi Tawa I ordered a Tawa 2 For Three To Four People, which consists Of Lamb Karahi, Chicken Karahi, Chicken Tikka, Galafi Sheekh Kebabs, Masala Fish, Veg Pakoras Nan Bread & Tandoori Roti served woth salad and sauce. The food was nice but nothing too special to be honest, I have eaten at many desi/authentic food places for Asian/Pakistani food and this one didn't blow me away. The whole experience was nice and good for a social gathering between friends as it's nice to all have a big Tawa I'm the middle to help yourselves off and the food was a reasonable amount, the £40 price I did think was a bit steep as it's nothing too grand really but overall for the area and the fact there's a lot of curry houses around there it's an acceptable price for the portion. The interior of the resteraunt is dine very nice and staff were reasonably friendly. I enjoy eating my food woth a water so I don't bloat myself too much and so all my food tastes nice and sits well but one thing I will add is fizzy pop is expensive here. Overall a reasonable experience and woth a few tweaks could be seriously good, has to improve a bit though.

Went here with my partner, the food and service was flawless. Chilli fish starter is definitely a must try. All the food was tasty with a good level of spice (which they can easily change for you if you dont like food too spicy) and all authentic. The owner was incredibly welcoming and we could tell he had such pride for his restaurant.We will definitely be going again!

Amazing food amazing ambiance and amazing prices. Best Pakistani food in the UK as far as I've tried! Keep it guys and hope you can maintain the standard!

It’s our first time in Derby and having read the TripAdvisor reviews we decided to check this place out (there are some negative reviews but they ALL relate to the same incident/occasion).Greeted with a warm welcome with good social distancing in place along with Track & Trace measures.The food came out quickly and was exactly what we needed after a long day travelling and exploring the Peak District.... prompt/tasty/hot/filling.The staff were attentive and quick and the food was reasonably priced.Recommended.

This place has its food on point! The Tawa dishes are full of variety, the portions are plentiful and the taste is traditional desi Pakistani flavourful food at it’s best. The service was attentive and polite, at all times we were looked after really well. Nothing was too much trouble. I’ll definitely will be returning and recommending this place to all.

Food was nice but really salty, also don't serve alcohol or let you bring your own. Nice set up though and friendly staff

Went in for the first time with the fam and we loved it. Service and food quality was great. The tawa dish is recommended if you go in with 3+ people.

After eating out every night this week in various places around the country finally I find a total winner! A good mix of people in the nicely decked out place, I was greeted by very friendly staff. Omg the saag paneer was the best I’ve ever had and that mango lassi too was the best I’ve had too. Well done guys you made me a happy lady. Street parking, reasonably priced, good selection of decent dishes

My first time at this restaurant and I was not disappointed. The food was amazing and the staff were very attentive and police. Also didnt have to wait ages for our next course!!

We had a family meal yesterday at desi tawa for about 80 people and it was awesome the service was outstanding and staff were very polite . The food was hot and really tasty . Definitely recommend this place and will next time be coming here for sure .

I strongly recommend the lamb karahi, mixed vegetable & mixed grill. The desi tea is as good as home made. This is my favourite Indian restaurant in the whole of Derby. Safraz the manager always ensures we get great service. 1 very satisfied customer

My wife and I visited this establishment and a thoroughly enjoyable charga Tawa. Food was really authentic Pakistani food and the owner who was also waitering on the night was really friendly and hospitable. I would thoroughly recommend a visit and judge for yourself

A lovely restaurant which is very nicely decorated and well located on the outside of Derby City Centre. Service is very good and food arrives very quickly once ordered. The food arrives on a tawa with big portion sizes especially compared to the number of people it lists it for on the menu.

Great food and atmosphere at this little place. Downside is no alcohol. But not a huge issue. The food is very good though and it comes on a tava ( flat iron plate ) Service is with a smile.

Came with my family looking for some tasty food........... AND THEY DELIVERED! The chicken salan and gosht was absolutely impeccable and the customer service was very good

Went with 30 friends the atmosphere is just amazing like back home in Pakistan the food was cooked to perfection felt so relaxed the customer service was impecible I will definitely be going back again and reccomending it to all of my friends

First time visit here and will definitely want to visit again. We went on a Friday evening which was surprisingly quiet, meaning service was very attentive, albeit feeling slightly under constant supervision.

Just under 2 weeks on I’ve finally got over the shock of how atrocious the service received by these clowns was.

Why a 1 star rating I hear you ask? This is generous in my eyes .

Best place for a wedding and engagement at the service and stealer was staff was awesome would deffo com here again with my family and the kids loved it keep it up guys !!

The best place in the whole of Derbyshire to go eat tawa no one can't beat them the food is imppeciable the reastaurent has a great ambiance about it and what can I say about the customer service 100 percent can not fault this place keep going back so amazing well done desi tawa no one can beat them

I am not one to leave negative reviews !! But the experience received at the beginning of this week for our family gathering was shambolic and embarrassing..

Attended a wedding tea party the other day, looked decent from outside, decor inside was ok. Was kinder surprised to see the food on the table on arrival...took a bite on the thigh chicken piece....wow the chicken was really cold not even luke warm. Gave the tiny kebab a bite boi that was even worse...hard doughy and guess what COLD!! Waited ages for the tea but to only be served in a plastic cup. Overall the food was not eatable due to it being cold. Shame the manager didn’t apologise once about the food being served cold. Personally would not attend here again nor do a large event / party.

Absolutely shambolic service and food..will never visit this place again. If you're looking to eat cold food and pay for hot meals then visit this place..otherwise spend your money elsewhere!

Ok so there’s no alcohol served here and you can’t bring your own! The food is authentic, incredible and at a fantastic price. Highly recommended!

Went with friends who cook traditional food and they were extremely impressed. Food is fresh , delicious and picture perfect Plenty of food on the skillets . I’ve visited before and it was a great as my previous visit . Looking forwards to visiting again

This is the best authentic tasting food I have had and the decorations just top it off, feels like your back in Pakistan. The value for money here is just unbelievable for a restaurant and the service is exceptional I went on what looked like a very busy night and the food was served within 30 minutes of ordering. Wow!! Keep it up guys!!

My work colleagues and I went to desi tawa last night for a leaving party. The food was fantastic, one of the best Asian meals we have ever tasted. The staff were super friendly and nothing was too much trouble. We can thoroughly recommend the sharing platter called a doha I think it's called. There was so much on there and easily feeds 4 adults and co.es with rice spicy chips and nan bread .

Went there on a Saturday night. The place only had a few tables with people but we were early. The food was really good . Would definitely recommend it. The staff was efficient and friendly. Place was clean and wlecoming. Would definitely return.

Great food, friendly service and a good concept with the Tawa. Chicken curry was especially nice, asked to change the chips for rice and the waiter did it without a hesitation, highly recommended

Just had the Tawa for 2 people, it could have fed four! The food was delicious, particularly the Lamb Karahi. The staff were very nice. Highly recommended!

I work in derby a lot, so saw this new place decided to try it out, the place itself is lovely, the staff need to be a little more professional it was a bit too ghetto and lads lads place.

This place is great for authentic food. Very reasonably priced and generous portions. Good service. The tawas are great.

Never heard of a Tawa before so decided to give it a go, there was so much food that we took some home for the following day. Restaurant is well laid out with good decoration, staff are attentive and were happy to explain about the food that they serve.

Best place for fresh food and great service that is different than all other restaurants around the area

Had a lovely family meal here. The staff were very friendly and did what they could to cater to our taste. The portion sizes are huge so if you are not big eaters order for less people as we ordered the 2 person dish but still had loads left by the end.

We decided to try this restaurant for the first time. We are regular traditional asian food lovers and rate the food here as excellent served an a traditional way. We ordered Tawa 1 for 2 people. It included a massive grill plate, which had Lamb Karahi, Chicken Karahi, Chicken, Seekh Kebab, Masala chips, Nan and Tandoori Roti. We could not eat it all and that is unusual for us. We would definitely recommend this restaurant for a different and traditional experience. The Owner and his staff were excellent hosts 5* all the way.

This restaurant has recently opened so we decided to try it.
