Desi Sweets in Birmingham

On a festive day in a strange city, when you are searching for familiar taste and flavours this sweets shop is your answer. As the name suggests this shop offers delicious desi mithaai and namkeen at a reasonable rate. The staff are friendly and sweet at the shop. They offered sweets to taste when we were hesitant to buy new items. And at the end we end up buying 3 varieties of sweets and lots of snacks (namkeen) to make our and others Diwali special.

A decent shop with fair options of Indian sweets. During the diwali festival they had 3-4 varieties of kaju based sweets, some more malai (milk) based barfi, kalakand, gulab jamun, jalebi, besan/gram flour based Bundi/ motichoor laddu. A good variety to make your celebration sweet! Only if they can display names on the sweets, it would save some conversation exchanges and wait time between them and customers. They also have a namkeen options, like mathri, Sev and mixtures, to name a few. The minimum packing quantity is half kg for everything, which feels like an obligation. If they can reduce it to some extent, it would be great to provide options to customers, and may even mean more business for them, as some people might prefer multiple small boxes then a big one. There were 2 ladies at the shop serving the customers with a smile and wishing everyone "happy diwali" while handing over their orders, it was a cherishing feeling to be there. They also offer quick snacks like samosas, burgers, and milkshakes.

I had an incredibly disappointing experience at Desi Sweets on Soho Road. The staff were extremely rude and unprofessional from the moment I walked in. It felt like they had no interest in serving customers or providing a pleasant experience. Their attitude was dismissive, and any questions were met with impatience and lack of respect. It’s really frustrating when a place with so much potential is ruined by poor customer service. I definitely will not be returning, and I recommend others to avoid this place unless they want to be treated with the same lack of courtesy. There are much better alternatives nearby where the staff actually care about their customers.

Burnt, overcooked samosas, waste if money, like all burnt

Stopped by here a few time for samosas and Jalebi. We don't have Indian food often but when we do we love authentic family made food and thats exactly what we had here. Great treat when we visit Birmingham

I ordered 150 somosa's over the phone vegetable ones , for my son's mosque hifz class because he finished a sifara , the somosa's were really delicious 😋 and crispy very good value for money 50 somosa's for £16 and £30 for 100 ,I would recommend anyone who wants to celebrate any occasion's and need good food to visit them

Worst customer service food was okay. Gave the lady £10 for spring rolls and she started being rude to me about giving her £10 for just spring rolls which is completely horrible as I’m paying so doesn’t mean I’ve to give change. Worst service

This place has been here for ages and if you are buying bulk samosas or pokaras then this is decent shout however I have noticed a dip in the quality of the food of late. Hope it gets better especially with the pakoras.

We placed a large order for paneer spring rolls and noticed the majority of the filling was potato with a scrap of paneer. When we questioned this they denied it to make out we were lying. They must’ve thought whose going to notice in a big party but unfortunately for them people did notice. So just watch them.

Best vegetable samosa's . Excellent value for money.

Worst place to have desserts, they claim good quality, but they had mixed full of camphor in the sweets. Pathetic Samosas, drenched in dirty oil and simply wrapped with mash potatoes inside. I am an Indian, and this is such a shame on you DESI SWEETS. I binned all the sweets and samosas, not even one sweet that I tasted was at least normal. These guys don't even know how to make good food.

Decent samoas and vegetable pakora. Delicious aubergine curry, but a little too salty for my taste. Not so keen on the paneer pakora, very dry. Overall a good experience with freshly prepared and popping hot food

Best place for truly authentic Indian snacks, they sell best samosas you will ever find in midlands. We travel down to birmingham at-least once a month and now we have made it a point to visit this place everytime for their samosas. And the price is tad cheap (just 25p for a piece). I also noticed some reviewers complanied about the service/food hygiene offered here. I would have visted this place at-least a dozen of times and they have always been polite, their snacks are freshly made to order - pay a visit to find it yourselves, I am sure you will not be disaapointed.

The samosas from this place are amazing and the chilli tastes too good. First time here! Will definately been returning!

300 Samosas the best around the lady who served us was amazing

Once I get the urge for their Marsala fish, it doesn't matter where I am, I'll do a detour to this place to get my fix. Freshly made naan bread with fried fish, salad, chilli, and mayo. You can dine in or takeaway. Always served with a smile, and I usually get tempted to buy a portion of pakora which is always on view on top of the counter.

Samosas n spring rolls to die for

The place was recommended to me by a family member back in 2017. I have moved home since then however this is still my go to place for family functions. Ring them an hour before and they will have them freshly fried for you. Run by very friendly staff

Friendly staff great price's lots of selection snacks and sweets

I have only been buying VEG SAMOSAS for last 20+ years. Usually I buy in hundreds. I order by phone and usually ready at time I specified. They are nicely spiced and filling is generous. With special sauce included free. Also, fantastic value, freshly cooked, great taste and very traditional. Great for parties. They beat other competitors hands down. Well done and thanks to Desi team for your service over the years. Highly recommend them.

Not good quality sweets, all made in dalda. And stale, even though they told all fresh, but when v eat v get to know if it's fresh or not . Don't buy from this shop

We took gulab jamon.its really hard and not look fresh.i called let them about it.i said to change it but they refuse to change .not good at all.

I've been using these guys for over 12 years.. I'm a Muslim, and benefit from their services so much!! Clean, organic and delicious recipes!! I've probably given them 20% of their business through recommendations!! Just this weekend my friend put an order through for a Thousand cooked Veg Samosas!! Good shop!! Keep it running!! But PLEASE bring one to Sparkhill!!!!! You will make a Good Killing out of it!!!! But KEEP the prices the same as Soho Road!!!

BURNT SPRING ROLLS !!! DESI SWEET CENTRE 119 SOHO ROAD !!! I purchased spring rolls from Desi Sweet Centre on the 4 May 2022 . To my horror when I got home, I found the spring rolls burnt ,please have a look at the photos. Iam sure you are all thinking, how could the staff not notice the products were burnt ,when packaging them? This is a disgusting level of customer service and certainly not one should expect from a established business. I emailed the company at their head office the same day, attaching the pictures. It's been a full week and a reply has not been forthcoming, which although dissapointing does not surprise, customer service looking at alot of the reviews is not a priority for this business. I will not be going to this shop again and look forward to see if the directors of this company have the courtesy to reply to my complaint and facilitate a full refund .

Been using this establishment for some years. Up till now. Had guests from out of city. Ordered samosas & spring rollls, both of these were burnt & brittle. Had to make alternative arrangements as this would’ve been a bit embarrassing to serve. Politely complained the next day. The response was “well keep this in mind next time” Sorry there wont be a next time with that attitude. Laddi sweet centre in Wednesbury is way more attentive and a very nice discovery after this sorry episode.

Bought somasa's and spring roll on Monday 26 July.. They were all burnt and looks old.. Very bad experience. I felt embarrassed front of my guest. Will not recommend this place.

Best samosas in Birmingham, is that simple. Great price, simple tasty flavour. I'm not as keen on all the curries, but still better than most restaurants. Also recently added pizzas and other take away food, and naturally do great Indian style sweets

Seen the staff bring in the chutney and they were in big drums which were really dirty. Would not recommend going there and customer service is really bad and staff are awful.

Short changed me also charged extra for chutney. Customer service was awful, had to wait so long while they were busy in the kitchen, cooking & taking calls.

Phoned up last week to ask about which pizzas they make and one of the staff told me told to phone up to another shop to ask about the leaflet and phone her back to give the order, the staff doesn't care about the customers they never smile. I won't be going there anymore. Its the worst customer service they provide.

Made a large order for a charity event. and needed the items in the afternoon. Absolutely no problem. Aunty behind th the counter was friendly. (Slight language barrier) but have no issues and will shop here again. Samosa's were delicious.
