Desi 2 in Sandwell

Went in the day time so this is not a comment on the food or service in the restaurant. Went to the bar to pass time between trains( it's a few min away but needed a pee). The guy who served me could not have been less bothered. Few bar flies drinking and watching telly. Will not rush back.

This is the most epic genuine charcoal cooked Indian mix grill I have ever had, literally for the mix grill (feeds 2 poss even 4 if smaller eaters) for £22 quid, with two keema nans and a tikka masala sauce totalling about £31 quid is unreal. Tandoori wings meat falling off bones, tender soft perfect lamb chops, perfect chicken tikka with an immense char coal taste and the keema rolls to die for and the keema nans and tikka sauce were bang on and the couple of different fish pakoras were divine and I am not a fish lover. Top drawer food, superbly priced, get here and enjoy the best tandoori mixed grill I have eaten in the country by a mile (reviewed by a work away from home lorry driver)

Ist time visited and very impressed. The staff were very friendly and polite and the food was excellent. We selected grills & curries and all of it was brilliant- will definitely come back

I genuinely don't no where to start!! I've been going into the desi 2 for very long time, the food is unbelievable, chefs are unbeatable, I request my curry sauce nice and thick, I am very fussy when it comes to my food and these guys at the desi 2 are unbelievable talent when making curries, I highly recommend this place, I genuinely don't go anywhere else for curry apart from the desi, Dee in the kitchen is bang on keep the good work up guys! Five stars from me 👏

So I’ve lived in Birmingham all my life and had many Indian Subcontinent food experiences. I’ve just been to Desi 2 for the first time for an early supper. Having had fantastic curries before in my life the Lamb Curry I have just eaten there was one of the absolute best I’ve ever had in my life. They must be using some wonderful fresh spices and I agreed with my friend I was there with (who is an even more seasoned curry eater than me!) that there was the most perfect heat (chilli) experience either of us have ever had, not just in Indian food but in any food we have ever had. The lamb in my curry was at the same time lovely and fresh tasting but also wonderfully soft and tender. Absolutely brilliant! Also the lounge/dining room is really nice and on the large size. It would be a great place to hire out for a party. Also, lovely people who own Desi 2 and the chef (who we met and spoke to) was a great guy and given the food he cooked from fresh for us he is a really very top chef. Wonderful, thanks.

Highly recommend the food. Service is great. Never had a bad meal. Chicken Balti, the Tikka sizzler and cheese naan are my favourites.

Went there yesterday, the mix grill and masala chips where amazing. Took a little while for it to cook but was nice and fresh. There is parking aorund the back on the road, another proper Desi pub will be returning again.

Ordered butter chicken. It tasted like chicken in dal curry.

My son invited me up to the Midlands to watch the match. He told me that we would be meeting up in the Desi 2. Prior to going to the game we would have a meal whilst there. I did look up the reviews on this place the day before and ended up going to Desi 2 with an open mind. I can only assume that the negative reviews about this place are not real ones as the food was amazing, hot and very tasty. I must also point out that the cost of the food was reasonably priced - A large mixed grill and a medium mixed grill for £28. I would recommend this place to anyone in or visiting the area as you are made welcome and with a pint of lager (Stella, Madri and Carling) costing only £3, though I was informed that it was matchday prices only you can't go wrong.

I’m giving a 1star because I liked the chicken tikka, the butter chicken was pathetic as it tasted more like dal curry with chicken in it. Very rude staffs. Went in with high expectations and now left with regret. Please don’t waste your time and money here.

We went here on Thursday at 7:30pm on the recommendation of the bigbadmixyreview. Firstly the road outside Desi2 covered in glass so be careful when parking your car. The Restaurant was empty apart from 1 table. The bar full of people playing bingo. We ordered poppadoms, 2 mega grills, chicken pakoras, 2 naan breads, masala and chilli chips. The food took over an hour to arrive. Why not just give us the poppadoms first? Not sure what they were playing at given we were the only table eating. The majority of the mixed grill was cremated, only a few of the pieces of meat were edible. One lamb chop and one cod pakora per grill. Not really a ‘mega grill’ is it? Also tried to fob us off with chicken drumsticks on the grill as they had run out of tandoori fish. Who has chicken drumsticks on a grill? Definitely won’t be going again, much better mixed grills in the area like Club99, soho oak and the railway. Don’t waste your time and money with Desi 2.

Have a look at all my other reviews and that would prove I’m not a moaning git BUT this place is shocking. As I was waiting for my order I could see inside the kitchen and it was horrible. Rubbish all on the floors, pots and pans stacked up everywhere, using an old dish cloth to wipe the top of the tandoor and then remove my kebab off the skewer. One of the worst if not the worst kitchen I’ve seen for an Indian grill. And chicken drumsticks on a mixed grill?? Haha no thanks. Much better places local; British Queen ⭐️ Red cow The phoenix Club 99 I always give places a second try, but not this place.

Actually a perfect setting with fantastic food comfortable surroundings and wonderful staff and atmosphere highly recommend....

Used to be the best in Birmingham, but with new management and new chefs, food and service has gone down hill. I had rated it at 4 star and now 1 star is being kind.

Used to be the best in brum but since new management in the kitchen it's the worst.

April 22, i was regular customer there.. Shame that they have changed the management in the kitchen, cheap quality of chicken wings and kebabs & small pieces of tika on the mix grill. Portion was small in XXL compare to last time and Naan's were like tawa roti. Staff was friendly that's all..

Best mixed grills in the West Midlands, customer service is amazing too. Recommended if you’re in the area. Get the fish pakoras!

Great food and good price drinks. Decent decor and friendly staff. The food is very nice but is full of red chilli powder which is fine for most but some people cannot tolerate it (in that amount) and so I have to take 1 star off

Such a great find - pub and curry house! The curry was really good as well, with spice as needed for the curry, no bland food here. Kids okay too, with enough choice in food to feed them happily and sport on the TV! Highly recommend.

Myself and my colleague went here yesterday evening upon a recommendation from another friend. Bar is nice, a good selection of alcohol. Seat arrangements and TV layout could be a lot better but the food..very disappointing. We asked for starters along with a portion of chilli chips. We received our starters but the chilli chips were battered chips. I asked the chef and he said they are battered chips. I mentioned I asked for chilli chips and he said I should of been more clearer...not sure how clear I can be...1 portion of CHILLI chips...not BATTERED! He said there is an extra charge to do them chilli...it still made no sense so I said why put them on your menu as chilli chips but give something that is as far as earth is to Pluto! He said its management orders. Whatever that means. He agreed to discount the mains. We ordered mains... Lamb Bhuna with less oil and not mild along with desi chicken curry the same. We received our mains 15 mins later. IT WAS SPICY HOT. I was sweating and couldn't finish even 1/4 naan on the mains. My friend enjoyed the spice but had to stop after a while. We packed the desi chicken curry as he wanted to take it home for his brother. Cooked perfectly, less oil but let down due to the spice. Opened the chicken curry the next day from the tub and straight away I knew they had given us the wrong dish!!!!! PURE OIL IN THE TUB AND ITS NOT EVEN THE CURRY WE ORDERED. Ours was very dry but this is a joke. The chef packed us somebody else's left overs!!!!!! Disgusting and will never be going back again. Their food and service has been a let down. I hope they do take on these comments as a positive and learn from these mistakes. Bar staff were incredible and absolutely professional. Look at the photos...the oil and on the plate. DISGUSTING AND IT WASN'T EVEN OUR DISH!!!!!

Looks can be deceiving.. It's the kind of place you would walk past daily and not pay much attention. I finally went in one day for food and was suprised that inside there was a good seating area for food and the food was amazing and very well priced. I know eat there often

It's been a while since I've returned, glad we did. Decor is much nicer and the vibe is more family friendly. Food is great without staining your fingers vibrant shades. They now also accept card payments which is fantastic.

Great place for a social get together. Best chicken wings in town and they have a range of beer to choose from. Nice family environment

They do the best mix grill in Birmingham for me the large spicy grill (warning not for the feint hearted it is very very spicy) however can have it without the spice as well which is equally as good, nice atmosphere can take the family here on a weekday or weekend in the day, not to sure about on a Friday or Saturday night.
