Read the excellent reviews before I went and thought great The place was filthy on arrival and should have walked out but thought ide give it a chance I got haddock chips and a pie , the haddock was just about eatable the chips were very oily and pie just opened it up at top and could smell that it was rotten so threw it away , I weren’t getting I’ll for that the pie cost £2.80 as well , don’t know which fish shop the reviewers went but can’t have been that one I went 15 years ago and they were rotten but according to reviews I thought I’d give it another go but never ever again

I was staying in a nearby B&B and found this a very handy place for a mid-evening supper. It has a small dining room at the rear of the takeaway. I found the food good, excellent value and the service friendly. They have clean toilets. It isn't sophisticated and might not meet everyone's needs but it well satisfied mine.

Stopped here for something quick to eat when in Blackpool at the weekend. Had to wait a while for the order, fish was not crispy as you would expect and chips were not great, soggy and looked like they were possibly frozen chips! And you have to pay for brown sauce!! First visit here. Ate in the seating area at the back. It wasnt that busy but the wait was very very long (would be better to bring drinks first at least). Portion size is small compared to what you'd expect from a chippy. Chips werent the best, to my taste anyway. Tea also tasted a bit funny, could be the blackpool water...Staff were very friendly, no issues there, just a few simple improvements would make it a place to recommend, since its nice to have a sit-down chippy.

Food here is average - but it's not perfect. The shabby feel of the interior could be improved and the few times i've been i've never seen more than 2 people in the queue. But my biggest problem with the Derby supper bar is the miserable woman who serves there. The first few times i've visited I let it go as i thought maybe she had problems at home etc, but it seems she is always like this. I'm sure she a nice lady but it doesn't hurt to be slightly welcoming to your customers (i doubt she is the owner - if she is then i hope she takes note) - I came out of there tonight depressed at her non-existent manner towards me (and the one other person ordering behind me) - For god's sake woman, i wash cars for a living and am always very polite and friendly with all the customers that come in. If you don't want to face the public, love.... don't get a job in a chippy. I will be using a different chip shop from now on. I'm only assuming the cracked greasy mirrors on the wall are like that purely because maybe she looked into one. Seriously love - Cheer up.

I have been using this fish & chip shop since the early 1970s & never had a complaint, with any of the many different owners. In my personal view the present owners have let standard slip. The fish frier appears to be wearing his every day cloths to work, no apron or chefs jacket. The food quality is OK but everything looks shabby. Sorry but this is my honest opinion.

Used this chip shop for the first time as my normal one was closed. After this visit, the Derby Supper Bar will be my first choice. The young lady who served us was polite and very chatty. The chips were very well cooked and not in the slightest greasy. My only slight criticism would be that when I asked for mushy peas, instead of them being served in tubs like most other chip shops,my hey were poured over the pie and chips which made the top few chips soggy and looking very unappealing! That said, I may have been able to get them separate if I had asked.

I used to go here with my mum just after my swimming lesson, I remember it much better than it is in reality. Give it a miss, there are many other better places in Blackpool. The inside is soo dated and actually looks rather dirty. The large mirrors which face you at the counter are absolutely filthy and look mouldy and broken. The tiles are a drab 1950's brown and wood panel on the wall. The door hardly opened and jarred as I opened it making it difficult to get in the joint! The place was empty when I walked in and I saw chips half cooked and sat in a basket under a heat lamp. Shortly after I ordered my chips, curry and barm, the server dug the greasy spade in the partly cooked chips and threw them back in the fryer. As I got home I found the chips absolutely sodden in grease. The chips look like they were originally made from frozen potatoes. The curry sauce was ok. But let's face it, it's not too hard to add boiling water to a powder to make it!The barm was small, looked just like a small budget shop bought one. Overall, poor poor stuff. No better then Farmfoods budget chips (they'd probably be better!)You'd be better traveling a bit further to Red Bank road to the big yellow Chippy there (can't remember the name) or heading South to Marton and going to the Cottage Chippy on Newhouse Road.

I had a takeaway from here on a Friday night, service was brisk and friendly and all food ordered cooked fresh. I would tend to agree, however, with a previous review of this place that the chips seem to be frozen and then fried, not the typical type chips you would expect. This, for me, left them flavourless and bland which spoilt the overall experience. Plus points, the fish that my friend had was nice and the battered sausage I had was hot and tasty, too. The mushy peas and curry sauce were good and the price of the food was, I would say, value for money. There is an seated area inside, this looked clean and tidy but I only observed from the front so can't say too much about that. Unfortunately, this is not somewhere that I would rush to return to.

I must confess that the service in the Derby Supper Bar was good, speedy and friendly and the meal when it came had been freshly cooked. However, the quality of the chips was poor, thin potato chips, just like French fries and seemingly frozen rather than fresh chipped potatoes. In addition the fish had plenty of batter but not too much fish inside it ... but the mushy peas were very nice, which was just as well in view of the other two offerings. In view of other reviews it makes me wonder whether the restaurant has changed hands. My friend and I were really hungry so it was a great disappointment to have this poor fare served up and we left the place still feeling hungry. It was a most disappointing experience and I will definitely not be calling again nor recommending it to others.

My family and I were looking for somewhere quiet, cheap and cheerful to eat on a Sunday night so decided to eat here. I was staying at the Merginn Hotel round the corner an had noticed it a couple of days earlier so thought we would try it out. We arrived about 6pm and they were just closing the restaurant area which seemed a bit early as they were open till 9pm however they told us we could still eat in, to take a seat and they would take our order. We all decided what we wanted but as I normally tend to find that I'm given far too many chips which tend to be floppy and greasy I suggested that instead of the little one having kids scampi and chips, she should get adult scampi (12 pieces instead of 4 I think and saved us 40p in the process) and we share my chips. When the food arrived it looked amazing with good sized portions. My chicken nuggets were battered beautifully and the little one's scampi were breaded just how we both like them! On trying the chips they were absolutely gorgeous and the best chips ever so I was gutted I suggested we share them!! For 3 adult meals, an adult scampi, a juice, 1 tea and 1 coffee it cost us just over £15 which was a bargain!! What we did find very expensive was ketchup at 16p so we did without (we think 5p in McDonalds is expensive!)!We will definitely visit again if we're ever in Blackpool!

The Derby Supper Bar is a fish & chip shop on Dickson road, just behind the Hilton Hotel on the promenade beside Gynn Square in Blackpool where as well as serving the usual take away food, this fish and chip shop has an dining area in the back for sit down food. A group of 5 of us went there on Saturday 13th Oct, where we had excellent fish and chips and chicken and chips at reasonable prices. The dining room was nearly full when we arrived and a few people were queuing for take away food but despite this after ordering, we only waited for a short time until our freshly cooked piping hot food and drinks arrived. There was one girl serving in the dining room who was really cheerful and polite, despite people constantly asking her for extra things (sauce, bread and butter) after she had served their order and was trying to serve other tables. We have eaten here for the past few years, when we are staying in Blackpool (at least twice every year) and even though it is not the most modern or up to date (décor wise) compared to the fish and chip shops in Blackpool town centre, for excellent food and reasonable prices we would highly recommend the Derby Supper Bar.
