Deli-cious in Darlington

Went in for a slice of cake to take away.£3.70 - no prices on anything! The assistant packed it up and I took it away. Opened 30 mins later to eat. It was dry and totally tasteless. First time I have tried this cafe and it will be the last!!

Decided on crispy chicken wrap with fries for lunch. I waited quite a while for my food to be served and to be honest the quality was poor. The crispy chicken was not crispy and seemed to be some reformed mass which did not resemble chicken at all. The fries tasted of stale oil/fat and were not particularly pleasant. Meals, coffees etc are quite expensive for what they are and quality of produce seemed poor. I also had a latte which was ok but nothing special I wouldnt rush back unless they upped their quality. Its a shame because the actual place was nice.

Cafe is nice with a great choice of cakes but so expensive 16 pound for a cup of tea, a black coffee a biscuit and a cream scone. We go out every weekend to different places for a brew and have been charged more than that only once but it was worth it. This sadly wasnt.....it was just okay

My wife and I both ordered breakfast coming to £10 each. It was good. However when I went to pay the bill was £25. I had to ask for a receipt, as it doesn't seem this is standard to be given one. On the receipt it showed £5 for miscellaneous food. I asked what these were: My wife didn't want hash brown and asked for something else and was charged £2 for this. Apparently they said this charge was a mistake and refunded me that charge. Although, if I hadn't asked I wouldn't have got. There is a sign outside the cafe saying there is gluten free options available. We both asked for GF toast and were charged £3 for this replacement. No mention of this was made at service or on the board outside. When my wife queried this she was told "that's just how it is". Which seeing as there's no shortage of cafes in Darlington, and reviews like this are easy to write, seemed a shocking uninterested response. So, if you want GF, just be prepared to be penalised for it.

How to murder a classic. Pancakes lemon and sugar - cold pancakes, artificial-tasting lemon syrup and garish sprinkles. And really expensive.
