Great atmosphere and delicious (if ginormous!) pizza

After 10 years of living in Brighton I know all the 'laines pubs'. Their craft ales are utter *****, they haven't changed for all the time I've been here. Ripper, Source, sonar all taste wack. The staff were atrocious, arrogant and rude, for someone who has worked in hospitality sort your attitude out. The toilets smelt like a sewer, close to £7 for a pint of piss....takes the piss. Before you slam my post, I live close to two well established laine brew co pubs and have spent literally £100s in them. They both are located either side of London rd station and host the largest gardens in Brighton. Check out unbarred, Brighton bier, Gun brewery. They are all small batch unlike this conglomerate. I'll end on this... They change £6.80 for a pint of Guinness and it's terrible, watery and wack.

Charley is the most beautiful human I have ever met. Fantastic! Recommended wonderful drinks and was so lovely! Will be back but only if Charley gets a raise!!!

Not my usual bar, but what a quirky little experience! Love how interesting the staff are, throwing the music back to the 80’s and 90’s. I imagine this bar is a staple part of a Brightons vibrant scene. A chill spot to make you feel young again, takes me back to my wild days.

Great pizza, good beer, awesome vibes (helps that the tunes aren't super loud so you can still chat while enjoying the music).

Bar staff were horrible, 2 girls chatting to themselves and making fun of customers. Ordered 2 drinks and they were plonked in front of me, took a sip of one and was shouted at by the bartender for drinking someone else’s drink! She then said I’d have to pay for the 2 extra drinks for having a sip of it accidentally. Refused to pay and explained it was an honest mistake and she ran out to security and got us kicked out! Horrible woman that needs to be escorted back to plastic surgery!

I used to have this place as my recomendad place in Brighton, but tonight I visited in a Wednesday and was made to feel very unwelcome by the bar girl. She looked at me like I ordered a child, won’t recommend going forward and removed from the list

The DJ was popping some of the most exotic sounds. The atmosphere is chilled. Great place.

Only 1 star because of bouncer . Writing this after time and time again I’ve tried to go and had various friends refused entry for being “intoxicated” not even “too” intoxicated, just drunk. Most of the time they’d only had 1/2 pints at the pub. Always so he same bouncer. Had the same bouncer be very rude for other miscommunications and refused to explain why. Just always so rude and u reasonable. Bar staff usually lovely. A shame about that one bouncer (you know who).

Great place for a dance, cool bar staff, drinks pretty expensive but everything is going up I suppose! DJs everyday which is cool when you wanna have a dance mid week! Love it here

Drinks rly expensive, bartender was not happy LMAO it was a little intimidating. The place was also full of flies.. like a lot of flies. Cool atmosphere though, good music. Great for a drink or two and a gig.

Apart from location is easy to find, I can't really give anymore star to this place. The drinks is on the high side at best, my bottle of 12% wine cost £20+. I ordered 5no pizzas, 3 of them were burnt either on the crust or on the bottom, I meant charred. My pizza was a special order as I cannot eat tomato, so I order a none tomato double cheese spicy sausage pizza, and first, I got a pepperoni pizza with tomato base, which I have sent back, the next one come without tomato, but with pepperoni which is not what I thought of spicy sausage means, but too embarrassed to send it back, I kept it and my colleagues ate it but they already have their own pizzas so we left half of it when we left. The place is not very clean, with pizza crusts left on the floor from previous visitors. All is all, not a great experience. I am a traveller and this place was recommended to me so I have to go back and tell the person who recommended it to rethink when she recommend this place again.

Disappointing at best :/ The vibe is great and the staff are super friendly and laid-back which I like in a bar but the food ruined it completely. Pizza completely burnt (literally black) with watery toppings and slow inconsistent service. Pretty sure I was overcharged but couldn't eat half the food anyway. They change you before so not like you can not pay for it. Love a laid-back atmosphere as long as it doesn't sacrifice the quality of the food but I felt like my flatmate made me a 2am pizza after a night out

Staff are amazing and friendly, beers are fab, tunes are bangin and pizzas are DELICIOUS. Would definitely recommend a visit!!

Bouncer was so unprofessional and rude

Worst Management! So uncaring and no protocol for theft! Had my expensive jacket stolen and was practically ignored. This place is full of rampant theft and management who comply with theft.

Good atmosphere here, would definitely recommend, place is quite small but nice with vinyl everywhere and I like the rooms and layout of the place. One of my fav bars to go to on the evenings, always seems to be chill nice people there, would say most people here are 20-40yr and staff are very friendly. (Rooms in daytime could be a bit lighter)

Nice choice of drinks. Menu looked good but we had dinner planned elsewhere. Something different and a great vibe to relax in with a beer. Great pizzas too!

A bit hit or miss, we had a fab evening a few months ago, went back because of it and it was 🤷🏼‍♀️, really unorganized on the bar, food took ages....not sure we'll go back a third time

Nice bar but I’ve never experienced service like it from the fella with the long hair. The bar was 3 deep and he was casually chatting to his mate, looking at this phone without a care in the world. No please or thank you, in fact no words or friendly gestures at all, just pointing. Several customers gave up and left to go elsewhere. It took us 20 minutes to get served, then the serving took a further 5 minutes because he had to stop again to chat to his mate. Mind blowing stuff.

Rolled the dice and went in for a pint and was not disappointed. Super chilled place that oozes cool. The walls are covered in LPs that the staff are cool to play. There is a pizza place at the back and it converts into a late night (3am) disco if you have the stamina.

Nice bar staff. A lot of them working for the Laine corp, many of which being knowledgeable. Good music and a late night venue to aim for.

Great place to go fur varied music when after pubs shut

I remember coming here since 2019 and it has picked up in popularity. You'll be lucky to get in on the weekend without queuing... A testament to how fun this place is. Really friendly bar staff and good choice of beers. They also have a massive back room where you can show-off your dance moves. Would highly recommend visiting if you are having a night out in Brighton

Always loved Dead Wax but had a really bad experience there recently. My card was declined twice before it went through on a different card. Having checked my bank statement, the amount charged the first time was £25.20 (which sounds about right), but the second time it had been increased to £32.25. When the payment went through the third time, the price was £35. This was for the exact same order. The guy who did it was super hostile the whole time which makes me think it wasn’t a mistake. Not great.

They some times let you pick the music.

Lovely late night hole in the wall, open late, accomodating bar staff, nice selection of spirit and mixers, even a pack of cards on request, a good place to be when cocktail bars like Bohemia are done for the night!

The best, played some retro games, talked some mega music and wandered off. Be back later in the evening 🤘

Great place to go late at night. We turned up about 1am on a Friday night and it was still alive and kicking. Reasonably priced drinks (for Brighton). Had a great time

I went with a friend to Dead Wax yesterday and the whole experience was far from disappointing. The service was amazing and the staff were so friendly and funny too. The pizzas were made fresh and quick, not to mention that it was the best pizza we’d probably ever had. The music was great, and the venue is so cool. Great for how much you pay (which is nothing more than £13) Already have made plans to go back again in the future!!

Absolutely brilliant bar great drinks and staff the girl with the blue hair behind the bar was lovely and so friendly. Also the pizzas were top and the same for the staff making the pizzas. Definitely would reccomended if visiting Brighton!

One of the best experiences I have ever had on a night out. The staff were so lovely and had so much jokes with them. The music slaps as well as the cool lil games across the venue. The bouncer was one of the best ones I have had a chat too. Top top lad him. Would defo come back for another night out and say hi to these legends again!

Absolutely Smashing Bar! Very chilled out environment, great music, plenty of space to chill, and some amazing service from the bar staff Jordan and Yiannis. If you want a great place for a pint, Dead Wax Social is definitely the place for it!

Awesome environment, we had a large party visit for a late drink on Saturday evening. Jordan was so polite and even the bouncers were entertaining and accommodating.

Great place! Amazing banter from the staff, only had a lemonade (Victoria lemonade I believe) but had a great time, with a great atmosphere!!

My friends and I came here for pride, and were having a great night until I went to the front bar and was served by a bartender with long brown hair and tattoos, who tried to charge me £15 for one bottle of cider thinking I wouldn’t notice. I would’ve thought it was an accident but he purposefully held the card machine so I wouldn’t see the price. I’d heard of this happening but I wouldn’t have thought to expect it here. The rest of the bar staff were lovely but I won’t be going back somewhere that takes advantage of people who they think are too drunk to clock on✌🏼

It’s great to see this Bar open again. (Visited July 27th evening) I’ve worked on Bond Street for years now, but I sadly haven’t been into Dead Wax for a while, so this was my first experience of the current team working there and they were all awesome. 🙌🏻 The 2 guys serving on the bar were super friendly to everyone and gave the place a nice welcoming atmosphere and girl serving the food was super friendly and helpful too. The food was great 10/10 I’d definitely recommend it if you want some decent beer and pizza with good staff and great music. 10/10

Nice spot, lacks a bit of atmosphere at the moment due to social distancing guidelines, looking forward to visiting again in future to give 5 stars!

On my last visit, we were a little disappointed to see that the menu had shrunk. Be warned that the menu on their website isn't actually their current one. However, everyone in our group found something to their taste. I enjoyed a vegan option - very tasty and impressively so considering I visited on day #1 of their new menu.

Came in for a pizza and a few beers last night. Wasn't expecting much buy the pizza was absolutely delicious, probably one of the best I have ever had. Definitely will be coming back for more!

Would highly recommend the music quiz on Wednesday and the atmosphere of the place is very friendly. Good place to go if you're looking for a few drinks; pints are standard price but we found the spirits a bit more expensive.

Lovely wood oven pizza, even more lovely staff, will be back again for sure. The G&Ts (Monkey47) were a dream. Thanks again guys! 👊🏼

Should just be a bar. Booked a party for my GF birthday. Unorganised management resulted in no booking. Manager on shift was a grouch. Maybe he's a liverpool fan idk but don't take it out on customers. pizza was too crisp, and hot as the sun - unlike old grouchy.

Pizza offerings have recently changed. Previous experience was excellent but now will not be returning. Customer served before us sent back a still frozen pizza base and ours was all but burnt to a crisp. Served with shop bought garlic bread? For a dark chilled bar the crying children were also not a great addition to the atmosphere.

It's a good central bar to visit, lots going on regularly, pizza served up on the premises, great for music.

Nice sociable bar playing vinyl and serving fresh pizza at the rear. Only issue is no tea/coffee. A frequent drop in for us when down in Brighton.

love this place, its next level Brighton cool. Easy going, friendly staff ready to have a chat. they have a huge collection on vinyl on the walls & you can have a rummage and pick wax after wax to play.

Made to feel welcome and the ale choice was great. Excellent location and good tunes.
