I was a regular at The Day of the Raj for Over 25 Years and I'm sad to see it gone. It has been replaced with another Restaurant now but that does not serve Indian food.

No volveremos.

I'm a regular of this fine establishment and it never fails to please. We all know that curry houses today are basically one pot wonders with the same paste polluting every dish! Well not this one - they can turn their hand to almost any dish you require and if they don't get it right at least the journey with the waiters is pleasurable- family run and fuelled with enthusiasm a real treat unless your a miserable so and so and even then I would place a wager on you enjoying the visit.

The Day of the Raj a local restaurant , which i have restrained myself from visiting for years ,it was a great disappointment. Brown was the colour of every dish except for yellow looking chicken dish , The rice was appalling more like rice shavings that had been cooked and left standing for hours , i wish i had taken a picture, really appalling, why ruin lamb by immersing in a brown grunge, the off colour spinach tasted of metal .The Raj has been a local Mill Hill fixture for years , its time for the owners to review ,their offerings , new chef perhaps with a new modern outlook . the manger was very friendly and knowledgeable , but the kitchen , oy vey ,

We visited on a Friday night, although there were around 6 tables of couples the service was poor. We had to call staff on several occasions. This place did not have a drinks menu. Be careful when checking your bill, our bill was also incorrect. There is a tendency for staff to suggest things like sauces without really explaining the additional costs of these, which is unfair to customers.

We went to an Indian dhol drumming display for the Mill Hill Music Festival at Days of the Raj last night. It was a really fun evening. The food was delicious and the atmosphere was very lively. The staff were obviously rushed off their feet trying to cope with a packed restaurant, 8 very loud drummers and a belly dancer, but their charm and good humour never failed. We will definitely be back again.

We called in as a family group of six (including one vegan) on the way out of London on a Sunday evening just before Christmas. Complete off chance - we had been hoping to eat somewhere else but had not been able to get in, I was driving up the main road saying "look out for an Indian" (knowing that's normally good to find something vegan friendly) and saw this place just off the main drag (and on broadway). Threw my wife out the car to see if they could seat us, then parked just round the corner in front of the fire station (much to my daughter's delight!). Got the call- yes they could get us in, so in we went. Now I'd have to say they were having some issues that evening - service was slow, but friendly, although being sat quite close to the kitchen you could hear there were some frayed tempers backstage. The slow service actually wasn't a problem for us, what was important was good advice from the waiters who clearly knew their menu, and food quality. Both were excellent. Nice spices (and reasonably authentic - vegan daughter has travelled in India), possibly slightly less "hot" than I would normally have expected from descriptions, although this may be serving a local palate. We enjoyed ourselves, and would happily return.

People always say your night is made of who you spend it with rather than where you are. This statement is correct but the setting for the night can be just as important. The Day of the Raj is a lovely place to have a quiet dinner with your partner or laugh filled night out with the girls. The staff are friendly and always available with suggestions and a smile. The serving staff always ask how hot we would like each curry and each time the curry flavours come out just right. There have been occasions where we have requested food which is not on the menu and it has been served with a smile. There is plenty on the menu to choose from and flavours to suit everybody's tastes. The size of the dishes are enough for one person if not slightly too much. I always leave this restaurant happily filled and with a smile and there fore I would recommend this restaurant any day of the week.

Day of the raj used to be one of my fave Indian restaurants but sadly it's just no longer what it used to be. Having traveled the world & been to many restaurants in many countries, I can honestly say that this is one of the best Indian restaurants I've ever been to! Which is why we always go back! The food is absolutely amazing in there, the place is spotless & immaculately clean all the time (even the toilets) & the staff are wonderful & always friendly. Especially the owner Romel (what a star) he's a perfectionist in all he does & ensures that from the moment you walk in, until the moment you leave, you're happy, satisfied & always leave with a full belly & a smile on your face. He has even gone out of his way on a few occasions when I couldn't find something on the menu I fancied (because I'm a super fussy eater) & he personally went out the back & made a dish especially for me!! Who even does that ?? Only place I know - Day of the Raj!! Wish tripadvisor had a 10 star rating because I would have given it - top class food! Top Restaurant!

Had a quaint evening in a buzzing restaurant on a Saturday night expecting excellent Indian food and left disappointed.Having lived in Luton for a while we may be a bit spoiled with authentic Indian good, but would have expected more from a restaurant with such a good reputation. Not only did both our curries (Bhuna & Jalfrezi) taste very similar, neither had even a 'kick' to it and tasted extremely bland. When mentioning this to the waiter, we were provided with hot sauce on the side, which certainly gave the kick, but didn't help the flavour.More over the sundries were tasteless and the naan looked/tasted like garlic bread from an Italian takw away.Nonetheless, the service was excellent with friendly and attentive waiters making us feel welcome in a busy restaurant.Good choice if you fancy an Indian, but don't like spicy food.

Car parking on street, parking meters finish 6.30pm. Long established family run restaurant now on upswing due to quality of staff and ambiance. Friendly greeting with a smile is always a good start and helpful suggestions and thorough knowledge of the food is the norm here. They will also adjust the ingredients to suit you , if say, you don't like chillies they will have your dish cooked without them. The beige décor is not intrusive and no music means dinner can be a relaxing experience. We found a little too much oil in our aubergine dish but otherwise have no complaint about the food which is good and better than most locally. The menu is extensive and most curries are available in vegetarian form. Prices are very reasonable and you get value for money. If you live in North West London the Day of the Raj should be on your list.

I'm not normally a fan of Indian cuisine, I see it (saw it) as a very popular dish in the 70's through to the 90's where it was considered an exotic alternative to the classic English dishes we grew bored of at home, or a place where an intoxicated gentleman would soak up a night on the tiles, gorging away to soften the inevitable hangover that lurks around the corner. However in today's health conscious world, eating at such restaurants would either be a rare treat, or a meal that would take at least a week on a diet to justify! From past experiences i've always felt very lothargic and heavy after an Indian. As a young-ish man who doesn't go to the gym yet can still squeeze into those 32" levis, I solely rely on the food I consume to maintain my figure and not venture down that jacamo road. The day of the raj blew all my preconceptions of Indian food being unhealthy right out of the water! There are healthy options, the grilled tandoori food was seasoned perfectly and every bite was one to be savoured. The lamb was beautifully tender and just fell apart in my mouth, the chicken was succulent and tasted divine, this really was a dining experience I've never had at an Indian restaurant. The owner, Romel was one of the most charismatic people I've ever had the pleasure of meeting, a complete gentleman who would accommodate any request asked and would serve to order. Would be worth the money just for the service alone. A family run business with over 25 years behind them, they do justice to fine Bengali dining. I'll be back there very soon!

We have been using the delivery service for some time and tha food has always been of a good standard. Last night we ordered as usual but the food was impossibile to eat. The curries tasted mainly of salt, were swimming in oil and ended up in the trash. I phoned to tell them and they explained they had a new chef! I shall not be ordering again untill either this one has learnt to tast food before sending it out or been replaced. My advice is for readers to do the same. Once more this does not apply to the restaurant which we have been using since it opened.

Forget all the cliches about suburban curry houses. This is a gem of a restuarant that is head and shoulders above any other local Indian restaurant I have encountered. The restaurant has been in the hands of one family for over 25 years and have built their reputation on treating each customer as a friend and serving absolutely delicious food. If you are stuck on thewhat toi order, Romel, the Manager, or any of the Staff are only too pleased to make a recommendation suited to your palate. Food can be adjusted to any strength you want. I have eaten so many times here over the years, and have introduced many friends to this established, and no-one has come away disappointed. I particularly like Indian vegetarian cuisine and the range and quality of what can be offered stands in comparison with the best of restaurants specialising in this type of cooking.. If you're a wine drinker, I highly recommend their house red. It's very good value and pretty smooth. On my wife's recommendation, the sizzling king prawn dish is truly excellent. I would say do not miss their dall soup. It is just something else. For a two course meal, you can expect to pay in the region of around £20-25 per person. I cannot recommend this excellent restaurant high enough; go and enjoy!!
