I took my son out for a meal,we ordered popadums and pickles the popadums were soft and stale,I ordered king prawn puri to start after what seemed like an age it finally came as I was eating I realised the prawns were undercooked and luckily for me i spat the king prawn out despite feeling embarrassed as the couple next to me saw me do this, then the main dish,I ordered a tandoori chicken balti, when I eventually arrived it looked like a bowl of slush,it was disgusting,I’ve eaten curries all over London and beyond and how people can actually eat here is beyond me,the staff took away plates before you could blink your eyes,my review 0 out of 10 absolutely rank, never again

I have lived in Barnet for 8 years and have always walked past this restaurant, my friend from Luton recommended it to me and I have been twice now and had a great meal every time !! What a gem, the service is great as is the king prawn puri highly recommend it, my chicken chilli was tasteful and fresh as were the nan bread fresh and light, the special fried rice is light and tasty too, on the whole all our curries were generous in size and great value for money, I’ll be back very soon as this is now my go to Indian restaurant from now on and Mayhek is having to take second place 😂

Arati is an unassuming restaurant on a side road amongst other restaurants which has a traditional charm about it. Decor is traditional, which provides a great atmosphere compared to more modern clinical decors. The staff are friendly and very attentive. The menu has a wide choice to suit everyone and even a section titled "English"! Food is fresh and cooked to perfection. On street parking only, which is possible on the single yellow lines from 7pm.

I came here last night for dinner with 9 friends, it's a proper old skool curry house. We had booked a table for 9pm and it was ready when we arrived, along with a warm welcome from the staff. The food was amazing, really tasty and delicious. The service was great and we were not rushes at all, even though it was late in the evening by the time we left. The food is generally very good. It’s a family run business (with the exception of the young waiter, who is the most friendly) are usually miserable, the owners son who is not so young himself will ignore you if you try to engage him in any polite conversation, his social skills are non existent and he has a nasty habit of rushing everyone’s order and when you’re clearly still eating it will do his best to clear the table

Me and my family have been visiting the arati for over 25 Years. We eat curry at least once every 2 weeks. After trying curries from all the world, the arati will always be one of our favourites. The curries are very tasty and you can ask for added spice if you like. The onion bahgis here have become the standard I use to judge other restaurants and sadly nothing comes close. The staff are very attentive, some people find this a little bit much but we have never felt pushed to leave. They do a lot of their business through deliveries and there is never the feel that your time at the table is being timed. I came here over ten years ago and nothing has changed. If you want your plates to be cleared while you’re still eating and the bill before you’ve asked for it alongside very average Indian food then this is the place for you. The owner can’t help himself, him and his waiters trying to clear the table while you are clearly still eating. The restaurant is stuck in a different era and I doubt has had a makeover in 30 years (menus, decor, including the old blue toilet and sink combo!) Food was ok but pretty bland and average to be honest.

We have been eating Indian food on a regular basis for over 50 years, and know the best (and worse) indian restaurants in London. Feeling lazy this lunchtime I got a takeaway from here which is very close to our house. It was the worst ever. The food had indian names and was (probably) cooked by an Indian, but that's as close as it gets to being Indian. If we had eaten in the restaurant we would have sent it back. Tasteless - I even tried putting salt and pepper on it! No spices that I could recognise as such. Just don't bother.

Visited friends and after they were recommended this place, we ordered for a takeaway. I had the chicken biriyani, my husband had a prawn Bhuna, friends chicken tikka masala and chicken patia. They all had ZERO flavour, which is something you can rarely say about a dish with spices, it was very strange. I can’t put this down to personal preference as our entire party shared the same view. Popadoms were stale and no chutneys or salad were given, also not what you normally expect. A real shame as the reviews seem to be generally good, which was misleading for us. Would not recommend on that basis.

This is tucked away down Lytton Road just outside East Barnet a short walk from the monument.. Parking is poor, although there is a TFL over ground car park about 5/10 minutes away.If you visit after 13:30 they may not serve you. So visit between 12 noon and 13:00. The set lunchtime special is £5.95:Onion bhagj and small side salad.Chicken Curry with Pilau riceTea or coffee to follow.I have been to many Indian restaurants and what struck me was how muted the spices were. Much better, in my opinion, that the heavily spiced meals you sometimes get.It appears that the food is cooked to order as the Onion Bhagi was brilliant. This is an old fashioned type restaurant which was fine by me. Seats about 40, 4 to a table. Both times I have been lunchtimes it has been empty!Perhaps the evenings are busier.Special lunch is weekdays only as far as I know.Well worth the visit for the muted flavours and probably much more choice if meals taken off the main menu.Cheap to mid range value.
