Dawat Indian Takeaway in Test Valley

Our takeaway was very good, I would recommend it! I'm not from the Romsey area so have no loyalty.

Chicken was raw, korma sauce it has like no taste! Would not recommend.

Omg! We just had an amazing takeaway from Dawat. We had onion bhagi and two poppadoms, then chicken tikka dhansak, which came with rice, and then chicken zafrani and a peshwari naan. Both curries were delicious, but the zafrani was literally out of this world! I was super happy! A mix between a korma, and a chicken tikka masala but with a beautiful hint of heat. I think I have found my forever dish! Order ready in less than 30 minutes, super fresh, tasty and have no hesitation in recommending this place! #utterlygorgeous

The food last night 25/5 was so fresh, it’s a pleasure to pay for food this good. I don’t normally spare cash for takeaways but this family business is well worth the money. The flavour and freshness is on another level.

Dawat is our go to takeaway. The onion bhaji are a must and to be honest all the dishes are so flavoursome that you just can't go wrong. Recently the dishes have been slightly more oily but still nothing like normal Indian takeaways.

We had a take away last night, delicious, hot and on time! We often order from Dawat and they never fail! We order different dishes each time and always full of flavour.

Not the best last night -very busy. The counter staff were very good and friendly trying to keep everyone happy. Unfortunately my Chicken Korma was watery and lacking flavour and the chicken was extremely tough.

Tried Dawat for the first time, the Naga was very tasty and hot as expected. Would highly recommend. Portion size was great, and the whole thing was reasonable.

Me and my husband travel miles to go to Dawat and have their food. The chef makes the food according to our taste, we don’t have one favourite dish here but a few. Definitely recommend Naga wings, lamb shank and tandoori king prawns. Friendly staff members

Tasteless curry…. very watery and didn’t look appetising. Have had some good curry’s there about a year ago but certainly wouldn’t return now. Was also met by rude man behind the counter with bad attitude. Shame as used to enjoy visiting here.

The tandoori mixed grill is excellent. Hot, meet very tender and so tasty. Very good Couldn’t fault them at all.

First time going there. I would recommend it 100 times over it was one of the best I've ever had!! Will be going there again.

Amazing service and food! We have just moved to Abbottswood area and ordered a takeaway last Friday (there were 11 of us in total) so pre ordered it. The staff were so friendly and the food was all ready on time! Really good sized portions too - will definitely be returning many times!!

I must mention this one occasion when I ordered few chapati & curry and later realised I should have ordered at least 1 nan ..anyhow I reached for the pickup the gentleman at the counter gave me a complimentary peshwari naan! Ordered a takeaway, which we loved. Delivery was at the time requested, and the food was great. We especially enjoyed the onion bhaji, mushroom bhaji and paneer biryani (although the veg curry side was a little underwhelming). Will definitely order again.

Normally lovely food but tonight was like eating stale warmed up old food. We hesitated to call but wanted to give some feedback, however it was received by a rude manager not believing us and not bothered if we didn't return again! Such a shame as a lot of business will be lost. All it needed was an apology and some compensation. To the bin the food went ...

Splendid meal. Great addition to the town of Romsey. I’ve recently moved here myself, and tried a few takeaways around the area. All very good.

Food tasted stale and old. When the manager was notified she denied it and refused any refund or money off next order! Attitude smells as much as the food!!

I've had a few takeaways over the past year & all dishes I have enjoyed especially the Goan Chicken.

We have used Dawat several times and have always found the food fresh and the service very efficient and friendly.

I could not recommend this take away enough, the food is consistently delicious and the staff are so lovely and friendly.

Spot on, I won't review a takeaway on the strength of a single meal so this review is based on four meals, sides and starters. Dawat is a great takeaway, it is abundantly clear that the meat is of good quality and the sauces and curries well spiced, the dishes cooked in the tandoor that we have order have been excellent and vegetables like onion and peppers which are often over reduced or blended in takeaway food retain their form bringing a subtlety which can be missing sometimes. Service is obviously different to a restaurant, but on each occasion the staff have been friendly and have varied dishes according to taste. I can recommend the Chicken Tikka Pyaza, Chicken Tikka, and the Zaal Joll. All the starters that we have ordered have been excellent. It's also great to see the little hub in Abbotswood building up, and Dawat is a great addition.

Firstly, they are a delight to deal with. But, most importantly, they care about you and it shows in their food. Fresh, flavoursome and reasonably priced. A great range of dishes not on your average Indian menu but also all the favourites available. My favourite takeaway in Romsey.

We are new to the area and this was our first visit to the Dawat Indian Takeaway. Having ordered earlier by telephone, we arrived at the appointed time to find our meal ready for collection. The service was extremely courteous and friendly and we even enjoyed a discount! The food itself was excellent and very tasty indeed. We feel lucky to have discovered Dawat so close to home. We'll be back!

What a great little find! Dawat was recommended so I thought I’d give it a try! What a great, super friendly experience from placing my order over the phone to collection, the team were lovely! As for the food I think this has to be the best Indian Takeaway I’ve ever had, fresh and full of flavour it was delicious! I think I’ve found my regular Indian finally ☺️ Give it a try if you haven’t yet, you won’t be disappointed!!

First takeaway from here - won't be the last. Duck Tikka Mossala was lovely. Garlic chilli chicken was very tasty (could be a little spicier). but overall fantastic

Finally! The best Indian takeaway in Romsey, without a doubt, there are a few and this beats them all, and just over the road too. Well balanced flavours, freshly cooked, not greasy, friendly staff and great service. Definitely recommend.

Absolutely amazing service. My partner has extreme allergies and we have avoided having Indian takeaway because of this. On a whim we decided we would call to see if there was anything suitable for him to have. The staff member he spoke to was incredibly helpful and honest so we placed an order. The kitchen was completely wiped down to avoid any cross contamination at all and our food was cooked to order. The curry was absolutely delicious, chicken was tender and the Nhan bread was lovely. 11/10. Will be going back lots more now. Incredible customer service and beautiful food.

Amazing food, especially the butter chicken. Peshawari naan also lovely and sweet. If your unsure on where to eat, look no further!! Also great service from Naz, credit to the organisation.

Unlucky for us. Have used this takeaway half a dozen times since it opened and found it very delicious and the staff very pleasant. Sadly on the last 2 consecutive occasions we have found foreign bodies in the food. On 19th June we found what looked like a metal staple in an onion bhaji. On complaint we found the staff extremely apologetic. However they did not want the staple back to investigate further and offered a small compensation. We like the food so much that we ordered again tonight. We must be very unlucky because we found a short dark hair in the pillau rice. I felt too embarrassed to phone and complain this time but just sent an email with a photo. This time they were not remorseful but as disbelieving as we ourselves were and insisted that it was nothing to do with them. We are all devastated as it was our favourite Indian and have been recommending it to everyone we know, but seeing that their food hygiene rating is pending, feel we have no alternative but to make a complaint to the Food Standards Agnecy. Put in a takeaway order for 12 people last night. All ready for collection on time. Fantastic food. Guests all loved it and took away menus. Excellent quantity and big portions! Staff very friendly and chatty.

If you are looking for the hangover cure, dirty kabab kinda takeaway you will not find it at Dawat. Instead you will find curries that have the perfect blend of spices, heat and flavour. Even the korma (which I usually find bland and boring) is full of flavour and the spices used really elevate the normal creamy, could just be eating yoghurt, experience to a whole other level! (When I say spice I do not mean, melting tounge or tingling lips spice, but flavour!! )Although for those who love the heat, believe me when I say they deliver on this front too! Again. Not the I can't feel my face heat (unless that's what you like, in which case I highly recommend the zaaljoll naga! ) but a warming of the soul with a gentle tingle, still allowing the flavours to come through! Everything we had was a joy to eat and we will most definitely be coming back on a regular basis!

Wonderful addition to the local area, food is delicious, authentic and non greasy, they are happy to help with requests not on the menu and the staff are so helpful wanting to know your name and have a chat. Have been back twice and look forward to next visit!

We ordered a meal from Dawat for the first time this evening. The quality and flavour of the food was excellent. The poppadoms were fresh and crispy, the chicken tender and the rice perfect. We are looking forward to trying more dishes from here. Would definitely recommend you try it.

Very good food, I haven't been disappointed after several meals. Order in advance to avoid missing out. Recommend wholeheartedly Edit to update. I've knocked a star off after our last meal. The prawns and the meat didn't taste as fresh as previous times

This Kulchi lamb from Dawat Indian Takeaway was absolutely delicious! Beautiful aromats, spices and super tender, along with a selection of tasty sides. Great value and a lovely new business in Romsey who were happy to make small alterations for us (can’t have an Indian without a Peshawari naan!)

Really great dishes! Had the korma and pasanda. Not sweet or greasy at all, which is often the worry. The balance of flavours was perfect. The takeaway itself is immaculate, and everyone was really welcoming. Can't find a fault!

We always order the same meals when trying a new Indian restaurant before experimenting further, that gives us a good comparison on previous establishments. Sorry to say this was disappointing, the Jalfrezi was particularly disappointing, no heat and bland, the veg curry side dish was spicier! Chicken Rogan was ok? Mushroom rice was good but Peshwari naan was thin, unlike others I’ve had. Yes they were busy, I was asked to wait 1hr 30min and then another 25min when I got there but that’s no excuse, It’s a pity really because I so wanted this to be good. I will give them another try..............sometime. 🤷‍♂️

I’ve been waiting for this takeaway to open !! It’s didn’t disappoint and my lockdown Sunday evening was significantly improved by a Chicken Zafrani, pilau rice and papadoms. Super friendly and helpful. Menu has lots of the classics but also some dishes I haven’t tried yet so will definitely be going back

Super delicious! Really tasty dishes, it was not too oily or sweet like most indians can be! We had the pathia which was beautifully balanced and the Shatkoa which was citrus and fresh. Not to mention the perfect peshwari Naan, a personal favourite. Tops my existing local peshwari Naan and takeaway too! Will be here again to try the rest of the dishes!

Fantastic food, I consider myself a well experienced curry fanatic and Dawat is on my estate so had really high hopes that were not disappointed!!! The lamb madras I had was very fresh and fragrant, and I could barely spot any grease (ghee) at all. Very friendly staff too, very much looking forward to working my way through the menu 👍 Highly recommended.

I had a lovely warm welcome, and the food is delicious! We had Jalali Chicken, Goan Chicken, a mushroom bhaji, pilau rice and a Peshwari naan. The Jalali Chicken is a new one for me, and it was one I'll definitely have again. Tender chunks of chicken, cooked on skewers and in a yummy sauce. Ginger and lemon peel with a rich, earthy spice mix will always be fine by me! The Goan Chicken was very nice as well (I only got to try one piece - boo!). Both main dishes showed a chef who is interested in flavour, not blowing your head off with heat. The spices were well-balanced and I'm very much looking forward to trying some other items from the menu.
