Never had a bad experience here lovely staff and excellent food,got a feeling that any negative reviews were from jealous competitors in the area so ignore those.

I love this Plaice (excuse the pun) great banter with the girls, always a good laugh, massive variety on the menu, great food, reasonably priced, i usually have the lunchtime fish and chips with the sweet curry sauce or the scampi and chips....Would recommend very highly, i enjoy lunch here at least once a week Gary

Had the worst fish n chips ever the fish looked like it came out of a packet the batter was so sloppy it feel off the fish which was so small it was a joke never again .

Unfortunately ordered fish and chips.The fish was very greasy and the oil was dark brown, it stained the paper wrap.the chips were soggy and greasy.Couldn't eat it. Won't be buying from there again.

Excellent local gem! Best traditional fish and chips out of all the local ones and a lovely family run business. Always great potions and cooked fresh. Really good value especially with the rising costs of everything and such a wide menu! Shocked at some of the bad comments, it’s really good and we have never been disappointed. Remember it’s a fish and chip shop not a high end restaurant!

A good place to get fish and chips, portions are big. The spam fritter and battered gherkin are a must. Lots of other options as well.

Absolutely soaked in grease, when I eventually found the fish it was tasteless. Used to be great. This is sad.

Had a large order for a work’s meeting, 24 orders to collect. It was all freshly cooked and ready bang on time! No mean feat! Cannot fault the service, seamless and so helpful, and friendly. Bev was so accommodating. The food was very well received by all. Will definitely be coming back. Thank you for providing such a fantastic service.

Meal deals under a fiver are good value, this place is incredible value. Batter of sausage is a bit overdone for my liking but the chips are bang on point.

Disappointing visit tonight. Chips and fish were very greasy, chips were brown not their usual golden colour. Service was good, though we found one item we'd ordered was missing, but they happily added it with no complaints. Maybe just an off night as we've had better from here.

I swear this place is never open. Each time I come the opening hours say open and the shop it blacked out and dead. So expensive compared to other shops. Also the website has some very sketchy redirects each time I visit it. Not a fan of this place

I have been a regular customer in the last half a year since I have started working in the area. Really good fish and chips and their special lunch is perfect in size and good price.

I'm just glad I had the small portion of fish and chips. As I had to get back to work for another priority job all day and all night again. But less of the winging. Fish 🐟 no bones. Chips look a bit sceptical but all was really really tasty and just the right amount. My ol mum at 94 years. Was right. Well done. Definitely recommend to my yard at selwoods . Thanks John.

Google wrongly said it was open Sunday teatime, so wasted car journey. In the meantime I was very hungry. Dave's Fish and Chips Bar and Google, between them, need to get their act together.

Very poor service and attitude… fish was over Cooked and very small , battered sausage overcooked … chips soggy …. Terrible

Awful food, soaked in old oil. Really disappointed, rarely get take out these days and only went there as chip stop was closed.

Claims to be open on Sundays - "confirmed by this business 3weeks ago" yet definitely closed when we visited at 6pm Sunday.

First visit was recommended by a friend not disappointed great price friendly staff very helpful will definitely be going again

Extremely rude staff and horrendous service. Disgusting food, chips are soggy and oily. Very unpleasant experience. Would not step into the place anymore. No respect for people and bad manners staff or boss.

Always lovely chips, fresh and tasty

Really disappointed with this local fish and chip shop. Don't really mind that the lady got my order wrong, these things happen but the "large cod" was not even approaching that classification. Not only was it small but it was greasy and overdone, or the oil was too old. My partner took the greasy batter off of her fish, so she didn't have to consume the greasy, burnt shell and very little remained. Sad to say I won't be returning unless these issues are sorted.

Ok cannot say about fish since I don't eat much but the burgers, chicken, battered chocolate and battered pineapple are the best thing ever. Definitely go for it. Also give the curly fries a try they're very nice, especially lunchtime if you're worried about old chips.

Asked to wear a mask as soon as I arrived even though they have plastic screens up. It's not a legal requirement anymore. I was told to wait outside. I turned around and went elsewhere. Young chap had a proper bad attitude and sarcastically told me on the way out to 'have a good night' This place will start clocking up a lot of bad reviews if they carry on like this. I see the last review was similar. POOR SERVICE. Cant comment on the food. We didn't get that far...

David's fish is excellent quality and very good value for money freandly staff

Don't buy any take away food from this place I bought a portion of chips and I ask for extra vinegar but when I came home taste no vinegar at all I phoned to the shop same girl pick the phone up and I said to her and she said bring back and I put vinegar on the chips i said to her this is happened second time this service they giving to the customer so avoid this place

Not great- not sure where these 5 star reviews are coming from- given this place 2 goes and both times pretty bad. This time forgot to pack the mush peas and curry sauce which i had paid for. Chips REALLY greasy and stale. Fish ok… I think- tasted like a fish… expected better given the reviews! Commendable that they still ask for masks- the 3 identical signs within a 1m space is probably a bit excessive. Pretty sensible policy though… shame about the food! A bit disappointing

absolutely awful!!!! greasy not cooked fish and pea fritter properly what an utter waste of money. never again. literally in the bin what a waste of food makes me soooo angry. staff are mardy too! I like to support local but you just can't waste your money here.

Substandard food and awful customer service A quick visit as we drove through Chandlers ford seemed like a good idea and a quick fix to hunger. How wrong could we be... LET'S START WITH THE FOOD It was shocking, We had a sausage in batter, the batter had no taste other than the fat that was oozing out of it. The batter just seemed to be flat and possibly even old. The sausage, however, was nice with plenty of flavours. Pea Fritter - well I have never seen soft batter, my other half has never had one and unfortunately, she had to experience this as her first pea fritter. it was awful, I think it must have been on warmer for at least a few hours to be this dry and batter so soft and rubbery. Chips (With salt and vinegar please) well there was no salt or vinegar on them but that would have been a waste of salt and vinegar anyway. the chips were horrible. Fatty and disgusting, even the birds won't touch them. they all went in the bin. My personal opinion is that the fat in the fryers needs to be changed and possibly even the temperature adjusted to create a light and fluffy batter rather than a fat absorbed batter that has no flavour and consistency of a doughy bread that hasn't been cooked properly CUSTOMER SERVICE On approaching I didn't get a hello sir or even a Hi, I got greeted with, Can you put a face mask on, please? Well, my answer was that I am exempt (Which I am) Well that comment got returned with a face of thunder and a complete look of disgust. (I could go into a rant here but I won't). In short, the person took my order and asked me if I could wait outside. No worries obviously, it is only a small place so more than happy to do that. This I thought was going to be the end of the poor customer service. oh no, that was just the beginning. The food was brought out to me and with a comment of "DONT FORGET YOUR MASK NEXT TIME" oh my god, how unprofessional and Illegal do you want to be. (Trying not to rant here but I feel I need to). I get there is still a pandemic going on, I get you are trying to be safe, I get that you're trying to protect your staff. However, KNOW THE LAW. It's discriminative to ask someone why they are exempt or even to prove it. it's discriminative to look at someone like they are any different to others when they tell you they are exempt. All in all, POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE SHOCKING FOOD Don't let the pictures on their google post fool you, their food looks nothing like it.

Staff insist on customers wearing a mask which is fine but one member of staff insisted on telling me stories about customers who choose not to whilst using the strongest language. Very unprofessional. Food greasy too.

Great Fish and Chips. Phoned in an order which was ready when we turned up. Very tasty fish with skin removed and plentiful supply of chips. Friendly customer service - they even threw in a bottle of fizzy (pop!).

Arrived at around 6pm and there was no queue. Waited for around 3 minutes to be served when Woman appeared from back of shop and asked for my order, which was a portion of chips. By this time two more people were in the queue. She said well you can wait outside whilst I serve these customers wearing a mask. She didn't even ask if I was exempt! Rude and unnecessary. The food from this chippy certainly isn't worth wearing a mask for going by past experiences. Avoid unless you want to be humiliated.

Rudest owner ive ever come across, 20 minute wait for nearly warn pie, mushy peas short of peas and what tasted like yesterdays chips. Then Bev, I'm assuming starts with the attitude This visit reminds me why ive not been for a few years, still awful avoid go to Goodies down the road

The good reviews led me to this place. I was visiting the area from out of town so reviews was all I could go by. Sorry to say that the fish and chips I was served was nothing like the standard others here seem to be reviewing. OK it is a Monday so not a popular day but any of my regular chips shops would still serve far batter food. Because I was an outsider and not a regular I drew the short straw. I suspect the others waiting there were going to get the fresh food. I think that we got the scrapings from the bottom of the hopper. Chips were awful, fish batter was horrible and fish tasteless. We threw most of the food away! I can't imagine any good food coming out of that oil today.

By far the worst fish and chips we have ever had. Stopped on our way home looking for something to eat and Google reviews were good for this place but not so for us Batter on fish was tasteless and like a wet pancake, the fish was tasteless. Oil used to fry both chips and fish tasted like rancid butter. The chips were like pieces of fried wood shavings!!!🤬 Lucky I've even given one star

Fantastic service, I am a wheelchair user and this was the only place open with decent reviews and vegetarian options, that were actually available. Spoke to them on the phone, there was no wheelchair access, but they could not have been more helpful, they took the order over the phone, and offered to come out to the van when I arrived. I got there about 20 minutes layer, rang them to let them know I was there, despite the queue of customers, true to their word, they bought my order out to the van, took payment and I was on my home in just a minute or two. The food was very nice, chips were not hard or overdone, pea fritters a good size, not too big, partner enjoyed his battered sausage and I was pleasantly surprised to find cooked onion in my veggie burger, and the garlic mushrooms, were lovely. Very impressed by the staff and the service.

Arrived at 6pm and only one person in front of me. Yet I could see that a lot of chips had been pre cooked and just sitting in the chip bin, resulting in being dried out with a tough skin. Absolutely no excuse for batch cooking to order when your not busy. Had two cod only comes in one size and priced at £4.10. Again this had been pre cooked and was sitting in the warmer. Batter was dark and fish was dry this would either over cooked or as I would guess had been cooked earlier and had dried out. Batter was very thick not light, it would have been better if they had added more water to the batter mix or sparking water to make it exceptional. There were two women working at the time. I wondered why at 6pm there wasn’t a queue out the door. The shop was lovely and clean and bright. I would visit again but maybe later in the evening when hopefully the food is cooked to order and fresh.

"Dave's Chippy" as the locals call it is the best chippie in the area. Food is always great and they do all the traditional favourites. Their 'lunchtime special' fish and chips is a slightly smaller portion but fantastic value!

Dropped in on drive past on way home to Winchester. A great price, the fishwas flakey, batter stayed crispy and plenty of chips. Friendly staff and immaculately clean with hygiene screens up, Best fish and chips I’ve had in ages!!

If this is the best chippy in Chandlers Ford then i feel sorry for the residents.The fish batter was a dark rusty colour and very greasy.so was the chips.A poor selection of food on display.Overall very disappointing.

A great chip shop. Exactly what you want from a chippy. We tried a few in the area and settled on this one. The fish is always cooked well, the portions are good and the staff are happy to give advice on what is good to have on the night. The specials are good value, normally there is a fish supper for a few quid. I also like that they do a large chips so you aren't forced into buying multiple single portions if the pair of you want a few extra.

Portion sizes are always on the good to too much size being one of 2 ctradutional Chip Shops in Chandlers Ford. Normally the food is cooked fresh but the fish is not always drained of oil. Would have scored a 4 if I had not heard " Dave, there's a customer moaning" when I came back with my pea fritter and fish. A poor way to deal with customer service. At least it got replaced but as you can see too much food left over.

Easy and good to go, local chippy that handles itself as a walk-up. Never takes long to get an order and you can always see it being made and packaged for take-away. It's exactly what you expect from a cheap and cheerful chippy.

I read negative reviews but had been before and liked it last time, not this time, reviews are right, Chips are soggy and over cooked, I ordered cod, it was mostly batter, kids fish fingers don’t look appetising either and the sausage was clearly over cooked, overall disappointed and won’t be returning, shame.

Not accessible to wheelchairs or the disabled. Massive step to get in or out. Also they don't open on time so, if you can't stand for long that's a problem as once you get in, there are no chairs to sit down. Very disappointing.

Dave has gone through a bad time recently (Family) and has come through it well. They have had new fryers installed giving a good meal.

Service is okay but chips usually soggy and greasy. Better to go a half mile further on for a much better experience.

The best peafritters ever ! And we have tried alot over the years .. Davids fish bar hands down serves THE BEST PEAFRITTERS. Home made and very flavoursome ! Please dont ever change your recipe ! Staff we all very friendly and helpful . Thanks peeps

If you like soggy chips this is the place for you. Seems to have had a face lift but unfortunately the chip recipe hasn't changed. Worth the effort to go an extra 500m to the next nearest chip shop.

Lots more batter than fish. Fish is dry. Chips very greasy full of fat. More bits of fat than chips. Don't bother - go somewhere else!

I'm 66 so I've had a few fish and chips in my time, though only occasionally nowadays.On Tuesday evening this week around 8.15 pm, I was coming back from taking my husband down to Southampton hospital - took 3 hours from A&E to be admitted. Nearly home I called in at this local chippy as I was hungry and didn't feel like cooking. The fish and chips were like they'd been sitting in the warmer for hours - all dried and shrivelled. When I called by the next day (yesterday) to complain, all the woman could say was I 'should have bought them back straight away.' No apologies, no offer of compensation. Never again. Once again I was coming back from the hospital - it took 4 hours for my husband to be discharged. Not a good day!

I am fussy about my fish & chips - cant stand floppy soggy chips, or batter thats been over fried, and as dry as sand paper!Never having tried here before, and moving to the area only a few months back, I am so glad we went here!Firstly, service was amazing, and staff soo friendly and accommodating!Which softened the below when they said they didn't take cards, and are cash only.We had chips for two to share, sausage, pea-fritter, steak & kidney pie and curry sauce - and all came to about £7 (from memory).The pea-fritter was BY FAR THE BEST i've had in years, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my pea-fritters! I will be having 3 next time! YUM!Highly recommend this chip shop!
