Worst fish and chips I have ever had. The brown soggy batter was awful. Will not be going there again.

Lovely food, well cooked and fantastic speedy service. Great selection of food including all the favourites. Never had bad food or portions.

Absolutely soaked in grease, when I eventually found the fish it was tasteless. Used to be great. This is sad.

Awful food, soaked in old oil. Really disappointed, rarely get take out these days and only went there as chip stop was closed.

absolutely awful!!!! greasy not cooked fish and pea fritter properly what an utter waste of money. never again. literally in the bin what a waste of food makes me soooo angry. staff are mardy too! I like to support local but you just can't waste your money here.

Staff insist on customers wearing a mask which is fine but one member of staff insisted on telling me stories about customers who choose not to whilst using the strongest language. Very unprofessional. Food greasy too.

Great Fish and Chips. Phoned in an order which was ready when we turned up. Very tasty fish with skin removed and plentiful supply of chips. Friendly customer service - they even threw in a bottle of fizzy (pop!).

Arrived at around 6pm and there was no queue. Waited for around 3 minutes to be served when Woman appeared from back of shop and asked for my order, which was a portion of chips. By this time two more people were in the queue. She said well you can wait outside whilst I serve these customers wearing a mask. She didn't even ask if I was exempt! Rude and unnecessary. The food from this chippy certainly isn't worth wearing a mask for going by past experiences. Avoid unless you want to be humiliated.

Rudest owner ive ever come across, 20 minute wait for nearly warn pie, mushy peas short of peas and what tasted like yesterdays chips. Then Bev, I'm assuming starts with the attitude This visit reminds me why ive not been for a few years, still awful avoid go to Goodies down the road

Arrived at 6pm and only one person in front of me. Yet I could see that a lot of chips had been pre cooked and just sitting in the chip bin, resulting in being dried out with a tough skin. Absolutely no excuse for batch cooking to order when your not busy. Had two cod only comes in one size and priced at £4.10. Again this had been pre cooked and was sitting in the warmer. Batter was dark and fish was dry this would either over cooked or as I would guess had been cooked earlier and had dried out. Batter was very thick not light, it would have been better if they had added more water to the batter mix or sparking water to make it exceptional. There were two women working at the time. I wondered why at 6pm there wasn’t a queue out the door. The shop was lovely and clean and bright. I would visit again but maybe later in the evening when hopefully the food is cooked to order and fresh.

We’ve patronised all the fish n chip shops and saves is by far the best,the fish is always fresh and the portions are very generous!

Seems like the place has had a face lift but unfortunately the chips are still second - rate. Go another mile and buy from Goodies instead.

Easy and good to go, local chippy that handles itself as a walk-up. Never takes long to get an order and you can always see it being made and packaged for take-away. It's exactly what you expect from a cheap and cheerful chippy.

I read negative reviews but had been before and liked it last time, not this time, reviews are right, Chips are soggy and over cooked, I ordered cod, it was mostly batter, kids fish fingers don’t look appetising either and the sausage was clearly over cooked, overall disappointed and won’t be returning, shame.

Dave has gone through a bad time recently (Family) and has come through it well. They have had new fryers installed giving a good meal.

Service is okay but chips usually soggy and greasy. Better to go a half mile further on for a much better experience.

If you like soggy chips this is the place for you. Seems to have had a face lift but unfortunately the chip recipe hasn't changed. Worth the effort to go an extra 500m to the next nearest chip shop.

I'm 66 so I've had a few fish and chips in my time, though only occasionally nowadays.On Tuesday evening this week around 8.15 pm, I was coming back from taking my husband down to Southampton hospital - took 3 hours from A&E to be admitted. Nearly home I called in at this local chippy as I was hungry and didn't feel like cooking. The fish and chips were like they'd been sitting in the warmer for hours - all dried and shrivelled. When I called by the next day (yesterday) to complain, all the woman could say was I 'should have bought them back straight away.' No apologies, no offer of compensation. Never again. Once again I was coming back from the hospital - it took 4 hours for my husband to be discharged. Not a good day!

I am fussy about my fish & chips - cant stand floppy soggy chips, or batter thats been over fried, and as dry as sand paper!Never having tried here before, and moving to the area only a few months back, I am so glad we went here!Firstly, service was amazing, and staff soo friendly and accommodating!Which softened the below when they said they didn't take cards, and are cash only.We had chips for two to share, sausage, pea-fritter, steak & kidney pie and curry sauce - and all came to about £7 (from memory).The pea-fritter was BY FAR THE BEST i've had in years, and I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE my pea-fritters! I will be having 3 next time! YUM!Highly recommend this chip shop!

The best fish and chips ever. A proper chippy, just like Gran would talk about. lots of other stuff on the menu. All cooked to perfection.

Never know what youll get........sometimes quality fish, chips and sundries with good portions and othertimes not. Want it to be good as been going here for must be 40 years since a young boy getting scraps and its remained with the same family.

I'm 65 years old and I've eaten a lot of fish and chips in my lifetime. I've never felt moved to write a review before but what I've just eaten (or half eaten) has left me feeling nauseous. The chips were old, shrivelled and greasy. I think they had been in the warmer since lunchtime. I was served a huge portion even though I asked for a small portion - it was early evening - I think they were trying to get rid of them so that they could serve fresh ones to later customers.The cod was dry, the batter soft and greasy. I'm feeling ill just thinking about it. First and last time I use David's Fish Bar.

It takes real talent to get chips so wrong but David’s Fish Bar manages it. How can chips be oil ridden and soggy, cold and over cooked at the same time? Answer - When they are twice cooked. Admittedly they were only £1 per portion but they went straight into the bin. The cod was ok but typical frozen fare. We were one of the first customers in, I was expecting freshly prepared fish and chips, I should have paid more attention to what went into the paper. On the plus side, the lady serving was very friendly and efficient but I will not be returning.

We stop by each week for a cheeky supper. Staff always friendly. Place always clean and tidy. Good menu. Good choice of drinks etc and very tasty food which is the most important part Good find. Thanks

Llegamos a comprar 6 y nos han ido uno de los primeros clientes. Pedimos 4 mucho pescado con patatas fritas y otros productos. Porciones de buen tamaño, pero era obvio que la comida había sido calentado desde la hora del almuerzo. Patatas fritas y pasta de pescado duro duro. Es una pena, ya anteriormente teníamos chips desde aquí que estaban bien.

We had a family fish and chips with some other bits aswell. Lovely friendly staff. Good prices. And the food tops it all. I would highly recommend this fish bar.

Me apetecía fish n chips después de trabajar el viernes así que llegué aquí unos minutos antes iban a abrir a las 5 de la tarde. Yo era el primer cliente al abrir, pero un gran cola formada, en su mayoría regulares rápidamente, para solicitar la comida familiar.

Yo también he sumado a este pequeño capricho de la ocasión, y rara vez en general, la calidad es buena, en ocasiones, he encontrado el plato demasiado grasienta. Esto puede tomar el extremo más bien lo que es una experiencia muy buena relación calidad-precio.

Metimos en para una cena rápida y me quedé agradablemente sorprendido. Muy sabrosa comida todo el año. La antigua pescado n chips como solían ser. huevas de bacalao. No podían afrontar a Mars fritos bar!!!!

Después de preguntar si este lugar ofrece comida sin gluten, la respuesta del hombre fue " no puedo ser molestado con todas esas cosas", es como estar vegetariano ? " Nos preguntó » es sin gluten de pescado free!!!!" Oh cielos.

Its a traditional fish n chip shop. Lots on the menu. Good chips crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. The burgers are worth a try

We have been going here for out fish and chips, perhaps 3 or 4 times a year for nearly 10 years and it is always very good.We had originally been recommended a place just down the road by the station but, on trying them both, realised that David's was just as good quality but cheaper and with bigger portions.Highly recommended!

Often use this popular shop for a fish and chips lunch. I try to get there early to ensure freshly cooked food which is value for money.The service is good and friendly. Recommended.

Quality of fish inside was great, batter was extremely thick and oily. Chips also very oily- more than you would expect from a decent chippie. Puddles on the plate. Wouldn't go back.

This has been our local chip shop for a long time, it serves great crispy batter on good sized pieces of cod, they've started serving large Haddock too which are stunning. I usually get a pea fritter and some curry sauce too, all cooked to perfection. Everyone is friendly, the choice and range of food is good too, can't fault the place or plaice if you like, get it?

Ordered 50+ portions of Sausage & Chips for a Birthday Party. They were delivered on time, fresh and hot and with all sauces, salt & vinegar and cutlery and napkins all included. All this for a very reasonable price. Everything was eaten and we had many compliments about the food. Would definitely recommend and use again!

I hardly ever leave reviews, but I've just had possibly the worst fish and chips ever. Tasteless fish, soggy batter, only about a dozen chips actually edible (the rest were either black or tiny fragments of potato). There was a queue in the shop, so maybe I was unlucky. Or maybe the guy realised I'd never been before and gave me the scraps no-one else wanted. I certainly won't go again

Love Dave's chip's, not skinny or fatty, just right. The cod is gorgeous also and the pea fritters to die for ! Good quality food and reasonable prices, you really cant beat it.

Wouldn't bother retuning, been twice and disappointed twice, cheap and I know why. Poor service, poor food. Fish was very overdone. Threw half of it away

I have been using David's for many years. During that time, that have added many of the more unusual items to their already large range of dishes, other than fish and chips, presumably to compete with kebab shops and Chinese takeaways! Cheesey chips, Balti pies and curry sauce I understand are quite popular, however I normally stay with traditional fish and chips. They are one of the only fish shops in the locality that still do Plaice! They will cook it to order while you wait. The chips are always lovely and recently I thought it was a nice touch, when after I stopped the lady behind the counter piling on more chips and said 'that's plenty thanks', she gave me back 50p. Service with a smile every time and nothing is too much trouble.
