Saw this place on our way to the Cardigan Arms so looked it up on their website. The photos there made the food look appetising so decided to give it a go. On entering we asked for a menu and the woman serving was quite unfriendly! Pointing to a poster/ menu on the wall for us to make a choice. When the pie arrived it was awful. Couldn’t cut through the crust which frankly tasted stale and the filling was poor. The ale wasn’t much better.

Called in on a leaving doo for a pie & a pint at lunchtime. I heard a microwave ping & assumed it was just the peas.. Pie arrived obviously not from an oven but a microwave. Nobody likes chewy microwaved pastry. Sort it out. Big dissappointment. Good pint though.

I like this little spot on Kirkstall Road, and it seems quite popular. There's a small, but well-chosen ale selection, and a small range of pies to go with them, including a vegan option. The last time I was here though, the pies (one pork pie, one vegan) weren't baked properly being grey, and completely uncooked underneath, and about a third of the way up the pie, while the filling was stone cold. The lass behind the bar didn't seem particularly concerned, said she could put them back in the oven for a bit, which see did, but brought them back, not looking much better, 5 minutes later, saying they'd burn on top if she cooked them anymore. They were still cold inside. Sort it out Dave, you can't risk poisoning your customers! Pies need to be right 100% of the time, not most of the time. I'll call again, but probably eat elsewhere first.

Lovely place we'll kept beers and the pie's were very nice....BUT The stairs down to the toilet are very steep with alot of webs and spiders on them. The toilet is for everyone and is not clean, the floor was very wet around the toilet area and the door did not lock.

Great spot this, reminds me of an old street-corner boozer. Great beers, and a pie and peas option. Friendly service, and it seems popular. Vegan pork pie was pretty tasty.

Dave was the Landlord at Leed's renowned music pub 'The Grove' for many years - he knows how to keep and serve beer and he knows how to look after his guests. Dave's Pie and Ale Shop, whilst craft-bar sized, is no less of a warm welcome and a guaranteed decent pint. The fact that you can have a classic pie and pies to keep you going is a great bonus. Cannot recommend enough.

I’ve passed Dave’s Pies & Ale on a number of occasions and always thought it looked quite inviting. So today 1st October my wife and I made a visit. From the outside and inside a very good and inviting look. Today’s pie offering were different types of pork pie. For £2.50 I personally expected something reasonably substantial and with £1.50 for mushy pies, I thought a decent amount of food coming, yum yum. How utterly disappointing small miserly pie and with portion of peas to match, the pie on the inside was lukewarm and cold in places. Customer service 0/10. Whichever customers have given this shop a good review in the past don’t know what pies should be like.

Visited on a Tuesday lunchtime after spotting this place on instagram and recommended by another restaurant close by. Dave, the owner, serves a great pint and they vary the barrels. The pork pies and mushy peas, pleasantly priced, were excellent. Home made and served with passion and a smile.

Im literally obsessed with this restaurant. The mixed meat shawarma is so freaking good and the chilli sauce is top tier. I can’t say anything bad ngl
