Darjeeling in Fareham

Wanted to place an order for chicken tikka, asked him if I could place an order. He literally said “ only starter? No we cannot do only starter “. If you cannot do it, don’t run it. Typical money minded people. Never going back.

Twice lately we have been really disappointed with the food. Perhaps the chef has changed ? The vegetable bhaji which used to be wonderful is just now a heap of left over vegetables and is quite disgusting. We have the special deal which used to be excellent with generous chunks of chicken but recently it has been a case if hunt the chunk and this week unless all the chicken had been shredded there was no evidence of any meat. Having said that, this curry has a lovely mild flavour and doesn't burn your mouth. Having only recently discovered a really nice, clean, friendly and excellent quality Indian restaurant this is SO annoying. Can you PLEASE reinstate the quality ingredients you used about six months ago.

Good food, enjoyed the meal. Will go again. The restaurant is located above Swanwick railway station, use that in the satnav. Pleasant 20-25 minute walk from the Solent hotel.

I’m pregnant and wanted to use the toilet as my train was going to be there in 30 minutes and they said they do not let people use the toilet even though 2 women that got off the train went in to use the toilet lady was very rude at the desk

We had to wait an hour to be served and absolutely no apologies from the staff on this

First time here, good food, great selection on menu, friendly staff. Will be back.

Lamb Tik. Massala was just overloaded with sauce and not much meat. Lamb was super tough so not very enjoyable. Rice portion was TINY compared to the size of the curry. Make sure you check final price when picking up for takeaway as they overcharged me.

The foods look horrible and the staff was very rude and don't know how to treat their customers. I don't recommend this restaurant at all.

The food was delicious. The staff were lovely. It's a small space and it gets very loud in there to the point that I couldn't really hear my girlfriend. Some people will love that buzz but I'm old 😂 Visit 2: Food still delicious. Still noisy, helped that we went at a quieter time.

Fantastic food, really tasty and fresh. Our party of 7 all had starters and mains and every one was fantastic. Service was good, waiting times OK. The only very slight negative was the ambience, but the quality of the food will make us return.

Fitted me in at short notice and the food and service were both fantastic. The chicken jalfrezi was superb and eautifully presented. Highly recommended. Bear in mind that the restaurant is on the first floor of the old railway building so access for disabled people is difficult.

Had a wonderful meal here Saturday, the food was very good and very reasonably priced , it was a little quiet for a Saturday but it could have been something to do with the awful weather! Would definitely recommend

Been eating from here for years and years, never had a bad meal. This place is consistently great! Always busy and bustling, providing a great atmosphere. The service is always amazing, whether it be from the owner himself or one of the FOH guys. They're always up for a chat, really friendly down to earth bunch . Fresh and aromatic flavours. Great portion sizes at really good prices. I HIGHLY recommend!

Some 5 star reviews on here are fake or paid for!! Food was average. The chap serving didn't have any service etiquette. Ambience was lacking. The place seemed to be newly acquired/refurbished so may be the staff need time to settle in?

The food was superb. We had: Mushroom rice Keema rice Keema naan Chicken jalfezi Chicken Tikka Balti Everything had a great depth of flavour. The naan was super fluffy and piping hot. Thoroughly recommend this place.

Went here with friends, there were 4 other people in the restaurant so not busy. We ordered starters and mains, the staff were friendly. The starters came out and my lamb tikka was a tiny bit dry but I wasn’t too concerned. The mains came out and the two portions of chips were cold, the portion of rice was warm. Three of the curry dishes were very cold, the last was hot. When I mentioned it to the staff they left everything where it was in the table, got the manager who sounded a little annoyed at the waiting staff. He then offered to reheat the food or cook new food?! Really?! One person who was lucky enough to have hot food ate theirs in his own while the 3 of us waited 20mins for new food to arrive. We had new food and it was hot and tasty. They knocked 10% off the food bill for the inconvenience. We won’t be going back!

Smallish place but so worth a try. Had the chicken vindaloo and it was tasty and bloody nice. Good beers and good service.

My party of 8 had a lovely time on Friday 24/3/23 in a modern, clean restaurant with excellent table service. The food was very tasty. The alcoholic drinks were great. Reasonable prices. Convenient to get there by train. However the whole experience was let down with no coffee option after our meal. This is not the first time this has occurred. The machine was broken and or the staff did not know how to work it? I was not happy. My strong recommendation is take your own coffee, milk and sugar as the waiter agreed to use this if their machine was inoperative. If it was not for this issue I would have given a 5 star rating.

We visited as four. Food was best even eaten, Karachi, passanda, special byriani, special massalla. We will 1000% be back.

Avoid got food poisoning from here Thursday just gone...

Absolutely the best Indian food I've eaten in the last two years. I had started to lose faith in many Indian restaurants over the last few years struggling to find dishes that have the right consistency and flavour levels that also tatse clean and don't give you digestive issues afterwards. Darjeeling totally hit the spot. We were on a journey back home from the New Forest and needed to get some food in us after a long day without anything. Everywhere had stopped serving by 9 but we found this lovely little Indian next to a train station that was still providing service. The menu looked great, has all the classics and some more. We were served by Mafta who was so welcoming and accomodating to us and have us some great information about the dishes and there history of the restaurant, the kind of waiter you hope to get serving you anywhere. After being informed that the place had been open for 30+ years we were hopeful the food was going to live up to the longevity and we really weren't dissapointed. I am looking forward to coming back and trying out more of the cuisine they have to offer in the near future. 11/10 food and service. Compliments to the chef.

Around 20 mins walk from the Solent hotel, not so easy to find by car as Maps takes you down the wrong side of the railway line. It is actually located in the old Swanwick station building on Duncan road. Dining by myself, it looked quite busy when I arrived but the friendly waitress was able to accommodate me at a small table. Started with the Sheek kebab, followed with a lamb jalfreizi and sag bhaji. Everything absolutely fantastic, will make a point to revisit next time I'm in the area.

Food and service excellent but not given 5* for the reason that it's very noisy! The reason being the modern design, it looks lovely when entering the building but soon becomes apparent that it has had no thought into the design.

Please read this review. Hadnt used in years so thought would try. Extremely poor quality. Rice container had a black film on the inside. The vegetable curry tasted off. The korma tasted like watered down pataks paste with a bag of sugar added. All went straight in the bin. Probably the worst take away I’ve ever had. Tried to complain but the phone was engaged all night. Best avoided.

This was our 3rd visit to this restaurant and they’ve really impressed us every time. They’re very attentive without being too pushy and their food is absolutely divine. Also we’re always shocked when the bill arrives as it is extremely reasonable and always seems a lot less than it should be

I just want to say how good this restaurant is. The quality of the food is excellent, every dish on our table were different from each other. We have been to other restaurants where all the dishes look the precisely the same despite being different dishes. Special compliments to the chefs and the front of house staff who were very welcoming as always! You must try it out!

This is by far the best restaurant I have ever been to. Excellent service by the staff and the food is absolutely brilliant. I’ve visited this restaurant twice in the last two years, and each time the owner/chef has without hesitation offered to make vegan versions of whatever they can on the menu. Clearly the food is cooked fresh each time. Super nice guy, and the food is amazing. Can’t recommend highly enough for any vegans searching for food in the area.

This has been our favourite Indian restaurant for 30 years. We no longer live in the area, but when we return, we always make a visit to Darjeeling. The food is always delicious and of the highest quality. Anwar and his family are always so welcoming. Thank you.

Just had the most amazing food here, the service was prompt and attentive I ordered the Darjeeling special, it really was to die for. This is certainly on my list of places ill be visiting again. The prices are really good and I was amazed the amount of good food I was given. Its seem to be recently decorated, it was very clean and quaint.

TLDR; bloody fantastic. Being attached to Swanwick train station, I had my reservations about visiting. These were unfounded as soon as I walked in the door. I have never received such thoughtful and friendly service at a restaurant. The staff were fantastic and when we asked for recommendations they gave great insight into their dishes. The food was extremely flavourful and different to indian we had before, it was interesting and unique. The only downside was that is was just a tad pricey, but I'd happily visit again.

Great food, very nice and decent decor/eating environment. Quite compact. But, Very poor service and wait times and that was on a Tuesday! Also, the only one waiter ( very pleasant ) seems very over worked poor bloke. And keep away from the butter chicken dish, only way to describe is looks like runny baby food with zero flavour.

Just ordered and consumed the best indian food I have had for a long time. Whether you have a take away or sit down meal the food is prepared in the newly fitted kitchen and is of the highest quality. My favourite is Chicken Jalfrezi, vindaloo hot. My wife loves the Chicken Rogan Josh with rich tomato sauce. With the addition of popadoms, garlic naan, Aloo Gobi and all the chutneys it's the best. They are also back to serving drinks in the small bar as you wait for the take away. I have travelled to many different countries and have tried other local indian restaurants but this is by far the best and a must try.

Went here from 2008-2017 mostly for takeaways. Was Excellent. Very busy fri/sat. Friendly staff, friendly regular customers. Great food. The only drawback was the size of the bar/waiting area. Then...the food was chewy,dry and bland....out of nowhere. 2 or 3 times. Staff disappeared. New clowns in charge. I've heard that there's a new guy now....but I'm happy up the road for now.

Worst Restaurant I have ever been in the UK, in the recent experience being in this restaurant found out that the Manager (short old bloke) of this place is too rude and very unwelcoming. He has no sense of talking to customers and his behaviour was just too rude, abusive and a harrrashment .Would never ever recommend this place to anyone. I wish Google can report such places and people to local authorities for being so abusive and for harashing customers this way. SUCH A SHAME!! Order was taken and after 20 mins Manager says they they cannot serve only starters and we have to order main course even if we have clearly said that we have a train to catch and we needed only starters. The manager was just too rude to say that this is not any english pub to serve only starters and drinks to people when there is no such policy mentioned in the restaurant menu and I decided to leave the place immidiately. On TILL we got a huge bill including the starters which we have not even seen and on asking why we have been told that it's his property and we have to bear the cost and argument happened for take away and on denial he asked his members to have that starter showing that he is doing us a favour, we paid for the drink for what we have had and left the place. I hope people like this understand their rude behaviour and service sense towards customers is absolutely unacceptable and realize their duty being civilized or start learning right now.

Turned up to get a table at 7.45, told to wait as and a half able would be ready at 9.30. turned up at 9.30 to be told no tables available, and to come back in 45 minutes. Called to confirm 5 minutes before and told still not table try after 11pm Totally unacceptable treatment and service, won't ever see me again

Superb house specials and cracking service.

We have 3 Indian takeaways within a 10 min walk and even more that would deliver to our door, but we still choose to drive 15 mins here and take home to eat as the food is so much better. Can be a bit more ££ than the average takeaway but you really do get what you pay for. Fri / Sat chef, in my humble opinion, create better food than weekday chef. Or perhaps it’s just how much food going through the kitchen dictates freshness.

Bland food, no real use of good Indian spices, more sugar. Odd location. Poor beer. Pretty average customer service. However, Fair price for what they offer.

We picked a nice quiet evening to have a meal here. Service was efficient yet relaxed and waitors were friendly. Had a lovely meal overall.

From the very friendly welcome to the end result of a great curry, the Curry restaurant and take-away at Swanwick station is where we always go for our takeaway curry. Never usually sure about ordering lamb curries, theirs has always been lovely and meaty, no fat at all. Never once had a complaint with our orders, big or small. All in all a good experience throughout and every time I get off the train at Swanwick I smell the heady aromas of curry being prepared, lovely.

It's ok, foods a bit hit and miss. Depends on how busy they are. Usually something missing from the order.

Great restaurant, only had one meal that was below par. Normally excellent, some dishes you don't find in every restaurant. Small friendly restaurant upstairs, with take away downstairs. Recommend, catch the train to go for a meal? It's in the old station masters house. Loads of free parking outside too....

Food here is spicier than expected but tastes authentic. I have been here a few times and always enjoy it. It can get busy some nights so you may need to wait for a table as it is only a small restaurant but I think its worth the wait. There are only a couple of lagers on draught here (Kingfisher and Cobra).

Great place, gotta get yourself a sneaky Cobra while your down there.

Wouldn't have even given this place 1 star to be honest! The meat tasted dry & like it has been cooked from frozen! The naan bread didn't taste fresh at all, it tasted like it has been microwaved in a packet. & it generally wasn't a nice Indian takeaway at all, wouldn't go back. Very cheap, & you get what you pay for.

Have eaten here on a couple of occasions, more used as a takeaway. Really good curries at a reasonable cost.

Lovely place with very friendly service. The lamb rogan josh was absolutely delicious but the lamb passanda was somewhat disappointing. Quite bland and tasteless in my opinion. Would definitely go back but will choose a different dish!

Great food, but one time the portion sizes were much smaller than usual - some of the tubs were only half full. Always tastes good though, and that was just a one off.
