Dans Island in Hackney

A surprisingly excellent and steady place. With a good delivery business, the shop looked worryingly empty. The particular pleasure - and the takeaway's strength - is in a range of Szechuan dishes which are very well balanced and spread the heat beautifully. Meat has always been of a high standard, well cut and decent quantities, particularly the duck. Check the opening hours - they're a bit unusual, currently 1500-2100 Weds to Sat only We've moved away, but would revisit like a shot when back in Hackney. Gung she far tzai!

Food was yummy & the delivery turned up early.

The sauce are not worth its price, it been reduced lately

The food was disgusting. It was greasy it looks like it been cooked in oil that was months old. The chicken balls were doughy and were not cooked.

The food arrived very late and when it arrived all 3 members of my family realised the food was of poor quality and not as expected. I have eaten from them before and it was nothing like it is now.

Disappointing meal but I'll start with the good stuff. Egg fried rice and vegetarian dumplings were both very good (near perfect) and the portion of rice was very generous with the rice arriving piping hot. But the rest of the food was a big let down. Meat in chicken balls and chicken satay very poor quality (some gristle), effecting the taste. Sauces that came with these (sweet and Sour and satay sauce) both very bland with barely any discerning flavour in either. Also very dark with dense batter, no air. Prawn toast had more of the poor quality chicken and tasted of old oil - not a great compliment to prawns. Vegetarian spring rolls again tasted of old oil. Restaurant staff were great - calling to confirm order and calling upon arrival. This place just needs to improve the quality of the food.

Th manager called "Ling " was EXTREMELY RUDE. VER disrespectful AND SERIOUSLY NEEDS TO WORK ON CUSTOMER SERVICE AS WELL AS THEIR DRIVER. She said she was the manager and said she had no surname. Food wasn't great either. Chicken balls and prawn balls were stale like they were just popped in the microwave from last weeks batch. will not be ordering from here again

Excellent food as always, fast delivery. Best Chinese in my area. Singapore rice has the right spice and one of the best "Char Siu" BBQ pork.

Chow Mein wasn’t terrible but the sweet and sour chicken was inedible

The food ended up arriving warm, which was a shame as it seemed it would have tasted better hotter

This in myour opinion was a horrendous meal. It was supposed to be a birthday meal for me and my family. It was like eating left overs. SorRyan but days chinese was chosen as it was the cheapest place to order from. This meal would have cost £35/£40 from my local Chinese. They were closed on Sunday.

THE WORSE CHINESE I HAVE EVER HAD!!!!! DISGUSTING ISN’T EVEN A BIG ENOUGH WORD TO DESCRIBE THE FOOD I RECEIVED!!! The food was tasteless!!!! NO Flavour what so ever!! The prawns where frozen, and the prawn balls were soggy and dry !!! the curry sauce had a layer of oil on the top of it! I would say the rice was a few days old and re-fried! and the ‘beef’ in the chow mein was slimy and didn’t taste anything like meat all the chow mein tasted of was off onions! The only half decent thing in my order was the prawn crackers I wouldn’t waste ur money on this place!!! t

I was extremely disappointed. my order was wrong. I didn’t receive chicken curry, instead I got a chicken rice. I had guests and dinner was ruined to say the least.. I tried calling the restaurant directly but got no answer. I don’t think I will be using just eat or Dans Island again.

Food was horrible - bland and tasteless. The chicken chow mien was stoggy and hard, ribs were hard and the chicken with ginger and spring onions looked like something someone threw up. The lady that runs the shop is rude and they were late delivering my food. Safe to say, I will NOT be ordering from here ever again.

Food not what I expected at all! Satay sauce was like a runny gloop- clear and not much taste of peanut. The prawn balls were bizarre. They were more like West Indian Fried Dumplings then anything. Batter over cooked so it was dry and not like the crispy light bite you'd expect. It wasn't even in the shape of a prawn lol it was just a round shrivelled inside. And spring rolls over cooked with hardly any filling. The salt and pepper chips were perhaps the only saving grace! It's always hit and miss when you order Chinese, but this was really shocking. Disappointing when you fork out so much money for it to be such poor quality.

The food was nice, the noodles came with lots of prawns and meat which is unusual. The meat rolls were 90% bean sprouts so I wouldn't order them again. Also, the delivery guy was annoyed because the bell was not working and he had to call me. They always call at arrival, not sure why he was upset because of that....

Very good traditional quality food. Friendly customer service. I'll be a regular from now on.

Advertised as 45 minutes delivery time, then quickly increased to 75 minutes, so I cancelled it.

Arrived too early half missing they redelivered the other half which had leaked everywhere then accused me of lying about it but did replace it, l would never use again

Love the food but waited for over 2 hours for food to arrive.

Trying it out tonight for the first time we found delivery time and service excellent. There was an initial glitch that was swiftly and effectively solved whilst we were plating up. Will reorder from here again.

Why Sichuan foods are soooooo sweet!!

I order my food at 20:45 and the delivery was set till 21:50 and they never arrive at the time I am writing this review is 22:20.. bad service avoid

There seems to be a new menu. The sweet and sour sauce as an option appears to have been discontinued, which is a shame. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken but got chicken in batter, which I wasn't expecting and don't like. It was a bit doughy and I won't order again. The rest of food was as per usual.

Food is always on point, this is my number one go to Chinese takeaway. BBQ pork is something they get right where many don't. Keep up the good work.

Forgot my drink, and didnt inform drive that i paid with card online, so he expected cash on delivery.

Ordered beef in black bean sauce, wasn't enjoyable at all, to be honest my whole order lacked flavour. Delivery was very quick.

Chop suey made with a sweet sauce - this should be stated in menu. Sauce in chop suey and house special special noodles way too thick and too much.

Dans Island I'm hook. Great food,fantastic service.

Dan's is great. I have ordered before, and this time I ordered a slightly saltier dish that I would have preferred, but still, I thoroughly enjoyed it. The chow mein is an absolute favourite. It's the only Chinese I will order from in E5.

Use to like there food but the last two orders was no gud I took them no pork I got pork I was so disappointed with the food don't think I will be ordering again

I've lived here 6.5 years and always thought Dan's Island looked gross. Took a chance today and ordered, based on the good reviews I had read, and it was lovely! The best Chinese by far in the area. Yummmy, thanks Dan, sorry for being so shallow previously :0)

The food was lovely. However their customer service was rude and I don't need attitude when I'm paying for a service.

I use Dans Island a lot - always good food and service - and a good chat.

I made an order around 11pm and the food was fresh, piping hot, absolutely amazing food, I don't normally leave reviews but I was really impressed I had to do it. It's been a very long time since I've had a decent Chinese meal, now I've found my new regular takeaway.

Love this place been eating here for years. King prawn fried rice and bbq ribs are amazing!!!

DO NOT ORDER. Worst chinese EVER had. Was cold on arrival and could not eat any of the dishes. First and last time we order from here. All went in the bin!!!

Food was really nice and arrived on time. Portions were good size and good value for money.

Wa not happy at all ! Ordered food at 10.00pm and was waiting 1 hour n 25 minutes and had had to call several times ,plus this was an ASAP service I called 3 times and was told two difference stories and when the food did arrive it was cold and the delivery man did not even apologies for an hour n half wait. I had to call up again at 11.21pm and was told we will get a free bottle of Coke? Never again, to be honest liquid ain't going to fill up my belly or the wait and hunger. Never again...

INCREDIBLE RUDE Member of staff, she called my phone to confirm my order and tried to tell me I should be paying by card with the most appalling attitude I have ever experienced. Of course I had to cancel the order because only God knows what is being done to the food, if management cannot even be polite

The order was late, then the food came and the prawn crackers were stale, the ribs were horribly dry with the sauce painfully bland. The fried squid was rubbery and the sweet and sour chicken was abysmal, soggy and disappointing at best. Would definitely not recommend.

Ok first of all. I called to ask were my food was the person on the phone was very rude. I had to put the phone down. When the food came I noticed a smell. Horrible the worst food I have ever tasted my prawns were off u could tell by how chewy it and the rice filled with salt. It went to the bin. NEVER AGAIN

Took a long time to arrive but this was due to a delivery driver being away so assume would not be the same next time. Food was lovely when it arrived, tasty and good quality.

Dans Island has always been my local Chinese takeaway of choice. I have eaten in many Chinese Restaurants at home and abroad, locally or in London' China Town and for me Dan's Island wins every time.

Nice and tasty meal with very friendly staff something was missing from my order and when I phoned up the woman was so apologetic with great customer service skills

We have been using this place for 3 years service has got worse and worse over that time and the staff are rude when u ring to complain that they have forgotton something off our order . We are looking for a new Chinese takeaway

This was the most disgusting thing I have ever eaten from Just Eat and the worst Chinese I've ever had in my 9 years of living in London. Soggy sweet n sour, dry and oily spare ribs, the curry sauce was thicker than boot polish and mixed vegetables were not even fit to eat, we binned most of the entire dinner. Complete waste of £20 and ruined our evening. Oh, and it took 50 minutes for delivery. I really recommend that they are removed before they disappoint any other people with this appalling food.

Arrived at the tail end of the estimated time. Absolutely vile we threw most of it away. Huge spring roll was soggy and very oily/greasy at the same time. Satay sauce was a gelatinous gloop that looked like sick and tasted of nothing. Beef with cashews was many gristle and again the sauce was a gelatinous gloop that tasted of nothing. Rice was average at best. I will never make the mistake of ordering from here again.

absolutely awful. looked awful, tasted awful, smelt awful. whats happened, used to love this place, i wouldn't eat it if they paid me to. bloody disgrace £21.10 worth of absolute crap. Disappointing to say the least. The food was so bland and wasn't entirely what I was expecting. Maybe it was a bad day in the kitchen, but I won't be ordering from Dans Island again.

Did not enjoy the food at all, the chow mein was dry, the curry sauce was very dark and tasted powdery like curry powder and it also thickened within 5 mins of being opened. would never order from here again!

Havent used Dans Island in a while, the food has dropped off a bit, the ribs where dry and hard! not good, plus was a bit thrown off by the somewhat intoxicated delivery guy who wanted fist bump (spud) as if to say me and him was bredrens! LOL!

LOVE Dans Island. Been a regular for a few years. Always good quality, fast service. Would definitely recommend!
