Arrived at 11:00 and headed to the Topiary Restaurant for breakfast, queued for 20 mins to be told that I couldn’t have breakfast because the till system shuts down and stops them putting breakfasts through, and it had shut down 1 minute earlier, explained that I had waited 20 mins, got an apology and told that they were understaffed. what happened to the old days when you used a pen and paper, wrote an order down and took it into the kitchen. They could have done this, bet they actually threw items away they had already cooked, had to settle for a rubbish scone, an absolute s**t show, what is the point in paying for membership. I wont be renewing it again, thats the revenue lost from their caff (its not a restaurant), plus what we spend in the garden centre while were there, lets face it theres plenty of other places in the area that are better and would welcome my custom. Bellis’ for instance, you can actually dine outdoors there. i would welcome a response from management but doubt I would get it, would have given 0 stars if that was an option

Why oh why do you not have a sectioned off area where customers can take their dog to cafe The Garden centre is dog friendly but we cannot use the cafe. It seems a much outdated attitude to bar dogs . I also am not able to use my 2 free coffees a month because of this. In this day and age the cafe must be losing a lot of trade against most others who do allow pets.

Disgraceful. Charged £17 for a so called trio of roasts. Tiny piece rubbery chicken, rubbery poor sliced beef and ham. Not even off joints...looked like processed meat slices like you'd buy from a supermarket. Hardly any veg, underdone roasties and thin gravy like dishwater. Tasteless. Disgrace for £17 of my hard earned money. Never going here again

Resturant prices for poor quality food. Fish & chips (£16!) served on a large plate small size fish with about 8 tasteless chips. Tarter sauce omitted. Also ordered a baked potato which was rock hard inside served without butter. Don't waste your money on food until they can improve, stick with a coffee.

Wasn’t impressed and don’t think it was value for money. Visited on 11.11 and they made customers aware to the 2 mins silence at 11am, while everywhere was silent all that could be heard is the chatting amongst the staff in the kitchen!! Rude. I ordered a vegan breakfast, it took over half an hour to arrive Luke warm at its best, I was far too hungry to ask for a hot meal, they would of probably pinged it in the microwave. The photos that advertise breakfasts must be the super king size!! I certainly wouldn’t recomend.

Visited Daleside today for afternoon tea with 7 friends. We are a circle of approx 25 friends who eat out regularly and won't be returning. It started with tea / coffee. One of our party doesn't drink hot drinks at all and asked for alternatives, possibly a fizzy drink instead. She was told Capri Sun or water. She asked if there was any juice and told no. We asked why she couldn't have a fizzy drink if the menu price was very similar to that of a cup of tea, we were told that the costing of the afternoon tea didn't account for a fizzy drink so I can only assume that a cup of tea on its own is well over priced! After all that a juice was brought out, not a Capri Sun and not water. Then out came the food. A cake stand shared by 4 people. Normally at other venues this would be 2 people. The "sandwiches" were that tiny they didn't even amount to one round of sandwiches each. Each round was cut into four and there were only three rounds included, and not even the crusts were given lol Then there's the cakes... if you could call them that. There was a small slither of sponge with lemon on top, all of the remaining "cakes" were approx 1" by 1" squares of almond slice, a brownie and one other chocolate square £15 was handed over for a total rip off. Not even service with a smile apart from one dark haired lady who seemed thoroughly embarrassed after the conversation with the chef about fizzy drinks!

Recently visited for a Sunday lunch as we had been recommended the food there. It was utterly dreadful. Dried out chicken, roast potatoes looked like they had been microwaved. Not all the food was left and it was not just us that seemed to be disappointed with the food. Other customers clearly were disappointed with the food poor food that was served up. The garden centre itself is great with friendly, helpful and approachable staff. It's also dog friendly

We decided to pop into the Daleside Garden Centre one weekday lunchtime, hoping to have a quick tasty lunch with the little one. Living close by, we try to support and make the most of our local pubs, restaurants etc. We have been for food quite a few times and on those occasions we have been happy. Unfortunately, this visit was not a great experience at all. I can only think that they were either having an off day, or there has been a change in kitchen staff since we last visited. I ordered a cheese and chutney sandwich which was served on two thin slices of "white bloomer" bread. The cheese was grated but I would say that they must have been running low on cheese as there was hardly any in there! This was served with roughly 4-5 crisps and a wet salad. The salad was so sloppy it put me off the food immediately. The chutney was served in a small jar but again, wasn't very tasty and not enough to cover the sandwich. Safe to say, I didn't eat any of this. Not good at all. So onto the beef baguette that my partner ordered. Well I felt sorry for her as there were so many things wrong with this. The beef was dry.... well actually that's an understatement. I would say that it had been cooked and then cooked again. You could tell that there was no love going into this meal. The salad was again very poor, I think they need to look at how they are storing the salad items to be honest. I had a sense that the food was dirty, I could be wrong but from the appearance, this is what sprung to mind. I really hope they were having an off day as we like supporting local places and would really want this to be good. The food we ordered isn't difficult to do well, so I'm sure that with a little love and attention they can sort this out. Unfortunately, we won't be back in a rush to go back.

We both had a cheese and ham toasted sandwich. I know prices have gone up generally in cafes and restaurants but £8.95 for a toasted sandwich is expensive. There was thick sliced ham in the sandwich , not processed which was good , but minimal cheese and it was hardly toasted , nearly all bread. There was cheese on the top which was hot but the sandwich was only warm. Infact I really should have sent it back . Not impressed. 2 toasties and a regular cup of coffee , £20+

We reviewed the Topiary restaurant (within the garden centre) positively four years back. We have had many lunches here and are positive over quality, service and value for money. Today however was different. We have not had a breakfast before. Nothing wrong with price or service but the food was dreadful. We had three portions of toast and asked that two of them were without butter. Only one was. The topping on two of these were scrambled egg and bacon. The bacon was cold, hard, a fork was no use with it. The quantity across the two portions would have struggled to make a single slice. There was plenty of scrambled egg but it was all in bits and somewhere between barely aired and cold. It seemed that both the egg and bacon had been prepared much earlier in the morning and we were served what was left. There was no heat in the toast. It was certainly not prepared to order. On the positive side the poached eggs were done very nicely. No idea about the avocado as it had been smeared onto a slice of buttered toast so it wasn't touched. We won't be going back for a breakfast and I suspect it'll be some time before we venture back for lunch.

Turned up on Sunday for a breakfast. We were one of only two parties. We ordered a breakfast which included a fried egg for my aunt, who asked politely if the fried egg could be substituted for a poached egg, but was told that this was a set menu and this would be impossible to do. My wife ordered poached egg on toast, and politely asked, again, given that they were already poaching eggs for her order, could they not poach an additional egg? Again the "Manager" refused, stating that this was a set menu, and incredibly now telling us that also it would be impossible to do because of "food allergens". I ordered a sausage roll, with an extra portion of bacon. The sausages were sadly overdone, the roll had also been baked and was quite hard, and the bacon arrived on a separate plate. All the food was simply left on the third table, with a "here's your food" before the waitress scampered away. Food was ok, but the manager's attitude and inflexibility earns this place a one-star review. We won't be back

Came on a Monday afternoon (5 adults)on last week of eat out to help out scheme. Ordered food and drink including lattes, mocha, tea, soup and bread, sausage roll, scones with butter and brownie. Soup was a small bowl with the smallest piece of bread,2 bites and it was gone. Questioned this and was told you'll have to order more if you want anymore. Lattes were in the tiniest cups we've ever seen lattes in,almost espresso size! Mocha however was in a regular sized cup. When we questioned this we were told the latte's were their regular size! Ok. One of the scones dry, brownie almost as flat as a pancake. Server in her 50's miserable, smile! Eat out to help our didn't mean cut portion sizes aswell as price,it's no loss to any business taking part as they claim it back from the government. One of the party was out as a treat for the 2nd time in months, hardly a nice experience. Certainly will not be returning and do not recommend! There are different breakfasts to suit different appetites. The portion size of the Gardeners wasn't excessive (just right for me) but very tasty and I really enjoyed mine. You choose fried or scrambled egg and whatever type of toast you want. There are two rashes of good quality bacon, tomatoes, baked beans in a dish, a small black pudding, all washed down with tea the way I like it!Breakfasts are served until 11am so I shall definitely be back again. I called at this cafe today or this first time.It is located in its own dedicated area, within a busy and popular Garden Centre. The Cafe is large, spacious with 50 tables.Entry to the Cafe is Diabled friendly although the entrance slope is a little steep. The Staff are very friendly and helpful. In fact I made an enquiry relating to food on the menu and a particular allergy that I have and there was no problem as the staff went and made the time and effort to answer my questionYou place your order, pay and then choose your Table and the meal is brought yo you by the staff. The table chairs are a little low if you struggle to get up from a low chair, but there are several higher and more comfortable seats aligned against the wall running the whole length of the Cafe.I ordered Steak and mushroom pie and chips(£8.95) with a pot of tea(£1.99)A total cost of £10.94 which I thought was very reasonable, especially considering that the pot of really nice Tea actually made 2 (and a bit) cups of tea.The Food was delicious, hot and cooked well and served upon pre-warmed plates and was more than enough to satisfy my appetite.I noticed as I sat there at how quickly the food was served and also how quickly the tables were cleared and wiped after the customers had left. The cafe was spotless .. very clean and that includes the carpet.condiments were free and the Cafe had it's own Toilets for the use of it's customers. The Toilets consisted of Male Female and also a Disabled Toilet which doubled up as a Baby change area.I would say that again they were very clean, practical and well stocked. The cafe runs special menu days and also has a Children's menu, the details of which I have enclosed as photos.I would certainly go there again for value, service and quality.

This once cosy and friendly run cafe, is a shadow of what it was and what it could have been if it had a decent manager overseeing it. The bakery is often two days old and stale (you'd think by now they'd be half decent at knowing how much to bake off and when) there's hardly a smile to been seen by the staff, and they often confide they're unhappy to the customers, even asking if previous staff know of any work elsewhere. The standard and presentation of food has decreased steadily since the refurb, and the manager & staff can often be heard bickering and complaining about each other and customers. In general it's a great example of a poorly run establishment.

Their experience at Daleside was appalling. Four measly sandwiches served on square slates, tiny horrid cakes, and small hard scones like hardened mortar. The presentation was dreadful, the service unpleasant. I am sorry in my heart of hearts that they had to endure such a repulsive experience. If it were possible I would give this a negative score, being the worst quality, presentation and service they have ever come across in the U.K. What a disgrace! We visited the garden centre to stock up on planting and new pots. Excellent choice and reasonably priced. Whilst there we decided to have a spur of lunch. Lovely Cafe, great choice of snacks, meals, cakes and beverages. Lots of seating space and roomy. Ideal for wheelchair access too. Highly recommend.

Had my parents visiting,a short walk to the garden centre a leisurely look around & a coffee & cake treat for all. Service so so slow! Could of gone home & made it myself. Only one young girl on the till& counter, she was calm & polite.Although when received,it was hot & cake choices all lovely if a little pricey. I noticed by midday, more young staff arrive, presumably to cater for the lunch time ques. Despite this, a trendy, clean cafe& very popular with OAPs!

Well I took my mum here for lunch today. We ordered cheese and chutney sandwiches. We were given 2 slices of bread with a bit of grated cheese on them and a teaspoon of chutney on the plate with a few salad leaves.....this all for £6.25!! EACH! A small bottle of water cost £1.65.....I asked for a couple of glasses for it. We were given cardboard take away coffee cups! You would think at those prices they might have been able to offer you a glass. I will never darken their doorstep again even though my mum only lives across the road. I will drive to the Grosvenor garden centre in Pulford instead. They know how to serve customers......Daleside is a disgrace!

I decided to take my neighbour for afternoon tea as a treat on Monday, and I realise that it is on an offer until Friday, but I was really disappointed with the quality of the food ! 2 of my sandwiches were hard on one side, like they had been made and left standing, and the scone wasn't the best either !! I'm not sure if we had the same food we would have had for the full price of £10.95, but there's no way it was worth anymore than what I paid ! Compared to other afternoon teas I've had, this was quite poor.

It strikes me every time I enter how much more they could do. It has all the fundamental parts but lacks inspiration and really only appeals to the older generation. Plant quality is good but with prices high, I would expect guarantees with them. There's a little of everything you could need but nothing on show to aspire to. No unusual varieties, no modern furniture, no new garden ideas. Staff are friendly but there's a real need for more with plant knowledge outside. I'd really love to see a shake up and more modern items to be available for us keen younger gardeners.

This refurbished restaurant within a garden centre has pleasant staff, mostly OAP clients and has nice choices of food. We opted for the Brunch Baguette ( filled with bacon, sausage and mushroom, with a side salad and tomato relish). No room for dessert.

My husband and I regularly visit this garden centre. However I have noticed that standard of cleanliness is falling. The serving counter is in need of a good clean for a start.

I visited the garden centre last month, as I do regularly. & always pop in to the restaurant for either a meal or just cake & coffee. The ladies work very hard, especially as sometimes you can see they are short staffed. Always polite & helpful. I’ve got to say I’m shocked to see some of these bad reviews, some of them (the personal attacks on how the staff look) are really nasty & uncalled for. I hope they’re looked into by management as my guessing its personal rather than having a bad experience at this restaurant. I’d recommend this restaurant to anyone, & would hope people can see through this poisonous persons personal attacks on staff.

Being a keen gardener I visit the garden centre quite often. Unfortunately that means that I sometimes have the misfortune to eat and drink in the cafe. The tables are quite often dirty, the quality of bakery is hit and miss, sometimes edible sometimes dry and rock hard. But what sets this place apart is the regularity that you can guarantee there will be some entertainment provided by the staff either shouting at each other or customers ( look out for the girl with about an inch of poorly applied make up on and terrible eye shadow, she likes a good verbal exchange with anyone). The place seems to be run by some miserable po faced lady ( and I use the term loosely) who appears to think a managers job is to be rude to customers, and seems to instil this behaviour in her staff. All the cheerful happy young staff that worked there not long ago appeared to have left a sinking ship. The service is often terrible, you are made to feel like you being there keeping them in a job is getting in the way of their petty squabbles. The coffee is dreadful, the tea is awful , and tasted like luke warm dishwater. I advise anyone reading this to AVOID THIS PLACE LIKE THE PLAGUE.

I went to the garden centre to have lunch while doing some work (I live locally) and will NEVER go back again! But despite the dirty dishes and other customers complaining about the slow service (one lady said it was a daily occurrence), I decided not to judge too harshly and ordered a jacket potato with beans. As I'm allergic, I specifically asked for NO cheese. It came and I was busy eating when buried in the bottom I discovered strands of long creamy white cheese! I took it back and when the manager came to give me a refund she STARTED TELLING ME OFF! She told me I was wrong, it wasn't cheese. When I asked what else could be long, creamy coloured, could be picked up and hold its shape? She told me it was butter. Butter melts at very low temperatures and couldn't have been picked up and remained in a solid strip. Plus butter isn't grated, the pieces in my food were clearly grated.

My friend and I went in for breakfast and both ordered a vegetarian breakfast, and asked for the fried egg to be changed to a poached egg. Nick on the Till deferred to her manager behind her who didn't even bother to turn around and acknowledge us and just said no. Now I know the only fixed meal is the early bird breakfast. I have regularly been going to Daleside nursery for over 40 years. But will now no longer spend my money on food in that cafe. The staff are rude and don't accommodate you unless they class you as a " regular "

Called in the other day later on in the day. Me and my wife shared a sandwich. This was very nice. We had a cream scone but I had to give it back as it was as hard as concrete. Changed it for a vanilla slice. This was only just ok. It was after 3pm so I am not complaining . Nice cup of coffee.

Popped in for a coffee, and ended up tempted by the breakfast combinations - from full English Breakfast to breakfast sandwiches. All I can say is I was spoilt for choice, and had the early starter - exactly enough, to be enjoyable-enough, "not to feel guilty". Cooked to order, the flavours were excellent. The staff are really friendly here, and well worth the visit. Good portion sizes and piping hot.

More of a gift shop than a garden centre but well stocked nevertheless for indoor and outdoor plants. Lovely quality gifts from toiletries to kitchen equipment available in the shop and a beautifully laid out coffee shop and restaurant is also available. Prices are typical for this kind of venue. Also contains a craft centre for sewing and other projects.

Visited for Festive afternoon tea (.with a 2 for £15 voucher)..The tea was very nice with some nice sandwiches a scone, small piece of xmas cake, mince pie and a cake of the day (a less inspiring small sponge cake. The eating area is fresh and clean but lacks something, feeling a bit closed in

Finally got around to trying this cafe and unfortunately we were left a tad disappointed, it is a really nice decorated cafe and clean, staff were pleasant. Hot drinks were good but the full English breakfast for £7 comprised of one sausage, one piece of bacon, one egg, a tiny spoonful of beans and a burnt mushroom, it came with one piece of toast, not very good for a full English when you consider the high cost and it wasn’t even that tasty. Wouldn’t fully rule out going again and possibly trying another main meal.

The newly renovated cafe is a little more pleasing to the eye but essentially the same. The service is always good? Staff very nice and helpful, But the food is slightly overpriced for what you get. It's all a decent quality but does not really justify the price in what essentially is a cafe within a garden centre.

Visited centre looking for plants for new garden and was around lunchtime so decided to try out the restaurant. I had battered fish and chips followed by a slice of chocolate cake. Have to say it was very good, not cheap but lovely atmosphere and quality food. Garden centre is fantastic and am looking forward to returning soon for Xmas goodies.

Went in here a couple of weeks ago for lunch, they have a selection of bakery products on the counter with no covers on them, flies walking all over the place. I mentioned it to one of the staff members, who went and informed their manager (Tracey) who then did nothing left the products on display and for consumption My the public....MMMMMMMMMM yummy file poo bakery thanks a bunch.

Do not cater for kids properly. Ordered hot dog kids meal for my grandaughter. It was terrible. Toasted soup roll with fat sausage and sweet potato (orange chips) kids bag with bottle of water and 3 crayons. REALLY. Kids want choice now adays. Chips should be normal and choice of drink, hot dog should be normal bread roll and normal hot dog sausage. Me and my friend had lasagne. It was ok. We ate most of it. But my grandaughter didn't touch hers. Ok for adults. Just don't take the kids/grandkids. Waste of money

Baffles me how you can get a simple order so wrong! There was 2 items missing and the rest was just all wrong. If I wanted 2 X Steak slices I'd have ordered them.. You simply have not helped cure my hangover hunger. I'm going for a nap now

We popped in for a quick bite to eat, service was great and friendly, food came out very fresh, fast and really tasty. Kids loved their meals and were full, us adults just had a few starters and bits and bobs to try, we will be back to try some main meals soon. Keep it up kitchen team!

Went to have coffee and cake on a busy Saturday afternoon. It was busy, but this was due to the nice weather and limited staff. The choice of cakes and treats is really good, staff are friendly and efficient and we had a lovely rest. The red velvet cake was delicious and the cream tea was so fresh and yummy. Well everyone at the cafe.

This place fits the cliche of a flat roofed pub perfectly. Absolute dive full of total k**bs. It's like being in Shameless, but less funny.
