Da Mario in Kensington and Chelsea

We arrived promptly for our reservation and waited outside to be seated, as instructed by a sign at the door. Multiple staff members looked at us through the glass window but did not engage with us. There were many empty tables inside and no one else waiting outside, so it’s not like it was too busy for us, we were simply being ignored. After a while, I opened the door to get the attention of someone, only to be literally shooed away by a member of staff. If it weren’t for the no-show fee, we would’ve left at that point. After waiting outside for almost 15 minutes, we were finally invited in (and marked as late!). From the moment we sat down we felt rushed and unwelcome; the staff were not friendly at all. The food wasn’t great either. In summary, our dining experience was pretty uncomfortable and left a bad taste in the mouth. Wouldn’t recommend.

Read the reviews and was keen to try the pasta here. Having lived in Italy, I know what good pasta is. Ordered the clam pasta and was very disappointed. At least a third of the clams were empty of meat and the pasta itself tasteless and dry. This place seems to ride on its reputation as ‘Princess Diana’s favourite pizzeria’ but there are far better places to find excellent pasta.

We utilised this one for the first time last week for a pre gig meal and were quite impressed. Don’t let the slightly tacky exterior, with its neon signage, fool you. Inside lurks a very good traditional family run Italian restaurant. We both went for the sea food risotto from the daily specials menu and it was very good indeed. Couldn’t fault the service levels and the price point wasn’t bad considering you are in South Ken. We had chosen a table at street level and were glad we did because the downstairs section, although larger, is literally in the basement and we thought the ambience and the décor was better upstairs, although here obviously you get the footfall of people coming and going. Booking is pretty much essential if you want to visit on an evening when there is a concert on at the RAH, but this is easy enough through the booking link on the restaurant’s web site.

This is a lovely family run restaurant, relatively small and intimate though it’s actually double the size because the basement is also open. The artwork is very much dedicated to Princess Diana, who frequented this place. We had a seafood risotto and a linguine ragu. Both very tasty. The atmosphere was really friendly and they made a fuss of my partner for her birthday. A real gem

I have to admit we only visit this restaurant when we are going to the Royal Albert Hall. It is always a very enjoyable experience. Friendly staff, a great atmosphere, an excellent choice from the menu and great value.

This is an excellent authentic Italian restaurant. Highly recommended - the food is really fresh and delicious. Every dish from starter to dessert is beautifully made and tastes great 👍.

Typical Italian welcome and cuisine. Very nice! On the other hand, we were asked to vacate our table after 1 hour 45 minutes without being able to have a dessert or coffee, which was very unfortunate because we wanted to stay. Surely a victim of their success, the manager should review his reservation method

Very average Italian, do not get the hype. Pizza was not standard, tasted more like salad on pizza dough. Not worth a visit unless you leave near by.

Da Mario is a fantastic casual dining spot with absolutely wonderful homemade pasta and pizza. The wait staff is great and the vibe is electric. The tiramisu here is the one that my wife bases all others off of. It is perfect!

Hector and Alecsandro were great in their service. Very Kind. And the food, besides being wonderful, came super quickly, was super hot and very well seasoned. If I could, I would give it a 10. Instead of a 5.

Just had a meal at this restaurant. We made reservations and we had a lovely meal. Our reservation was for 7.45pn. our starter came out the same time as our main meal. As soon as we had finished our main meal we were given our receipt. Soon after that someone came around with the card payment machine. We weren't even offered a dessert menu. When I asked about the desert menu I was told that the table was reserved for someone else! I couldn't believe it. There were people sitting in the restaurant who were there before we arrived and still sitting there, plus a few minutes before we were asked if we wanted another bottle of wine! We payed our bill and left at 9.45 and there was nobody waiting for a table on leaving. Lovely meal but let down by the staff not wanting us to have a dessert and feeling rushed to vacate our table.

Go for the pizza and tiramisu!! Super quick and efficient service (perfect for squeezing in before a concert/prom!). Slightly overwhelming decor but very lovely atmosphere. Also recommended to book at busy times.

Polite and frequently checked up on us, food was served quickly - nice place will definitely visit again. We were sitting on the ground floor opposite the bar if it helps!! Not sure what the pizza was called but had chorizo.

Food was SO yummy and very reasonable. The restaurant was very hot...so was quite uncomfortable (sat downstairs). The biggest aperol spritz...felt like a fishbowl 🤩 Unfortunately there was a very unpleasant guest sat next to us...but the staff handled it very well!

Really nice Italian near royal Albert hall. Had the seafood pasta, soo much seafood it was great. Aperol spritz perfect and delicious tiramisu. The atmosphere upstairs and on the terrace is nicer than downstairs but still good vibe and always busy. My friend had the ragu and there was so much meat. Recommend!

Absolute gem of a restaurant! Had an early dinner here and we were looked after like royalty by Steven and his colleagues. The food was gorgeous, fresh and so authentic. The wine glasses are generously poured and the atmosphere is special. Do not miss out on a special meal if you're in the area!

Absolutely blown away by this gem of a restaurant. We needed a meal before the Royal Albert Hall and found this place on Google Maps. We booked a couple of days ahead and I’m glad we did because they were full! The whole place is so charming and the service is exceptional. There are so many dishes to choose from we were spoilt for choice! The dishes we had were absolutely delicious, one of the best plates of pasta I’ve ever had in my life. Cannot wait to come back here again sometime.

Almost all of the pizzas listed as vegetarian are not actually vegetarian as they include DOP parmesan or pecorino. These cheeses traditionally contain rennet which is not suitable for vegetarians.

Food was good but service was awful. Tables next to us both were served within 15 minutes but it took us 25 minutes between starter and (two pasta) mains. Card machine came 15 minutes after the bill came.

This place is always fully booked. Very popular. Food selection is great, but I found the starter and the pasta too salty. Also, artificial flowers are too much. The atmosphere is very nice there, you don't need artificial flowers.

We, a family of five, dined here on a Thursday evening, September 12. Reservations are essential as we continually saw a sign outside indicating that the restaurant was fully booked for the night. The food was all very good and served with a friendly staff. We ate downstairs which was a little warm due to the crowd, but not uncomfortable. Between us, we tried the seafood risotto, pizza, gnocchi, and a gluten free dish. All were very good.

I had the pleasure of dining at Da Mario recently, and it was an absolute delight. The food was authentic, bursting with fresh flavors, and clearly made with high-quality ingredients. From the perfectly cooked pasta to the rich and creamy tiramisu, every dish was a treat. What impressed me the most was the value for money. Despite the high quality of the food and the cozy ambiance, the prices were very reasonable, especially for London. The portions were generous, and the staff were warm, friendly, and knowledgeable about the menu. If you're looking for a great Italian meal that won’t break the bank, I highly recommend it. I had one of the best, if not the best Italian meals ever. The meat sauce is amazing and had pot roast instead of ground beef. The staff were friendly and the food arrived very quickly. It was so good that we’re going back tomorrow.

Got severe food poisoning after a visit here, had a pasta dish that we later found out might’ve been reheated once too many times. Was met by rude staff on the phone when I tried to complain and they refused to refund our meal. This used to be one of my favourite spots in London, but won’t be going back again now.

Restaurant discovered by chance while looking for a place for lunch after visiting the Natural History Museum. The good reviews I had read were not denied! Excellent food, nice atmosphere combined with friendliness and kindness. A dish arrived late due to a mix-up in the kitchen and in addition to apologizing they offered us dessert! You have to pre-book here as it is always very popular. Went for lunch and the choice for all dietary needs are excellent (meat/veggie/pescatarian). Great 2 courses and 2 drinks each came to £175 which for the quality and service was more than agreeable. Can’t recommend this restaurant enough, especially for a special meal or event.

Remember that gratuity (service charge) is optional! Ours was very unpleasant and impatient. The food was tasty, but the service was abysmal. When he presented the bill he said he'd forgotten the one orange juice and wanted to add that to the bill, without going through the till. That's one way to up your tips... I suggested to add the juice and remove the service charge... I would not recommend this place, because it unfortunately leaves a nasty aftertaste.

One of the few good restaurants near Imperial College. Definitely deserve a try. Will recommend Ragu and Fantasia. Recommend the oxtail noodles and seafood stew.

Normally when we are abroad we look at Italian restaurants with skepticism, we went here the first time because it was recommended by the hotel, but we were very happy to return. Very courteous staff. Pizza and pasta with Italian quality. Try the lemon sorbet at the end of the meal, excellent.

Honestly cannot fault this place - it is a true gem

The food was very delicious but the waiter's attitude was disappointing. The male waiter named Cristhian didn't smile the whole time and felt cold. When we finished our main dishes and there were still drinks on the table, he handed us the bill, as if he was urging us to pay. When we reported to him that we had not finished our meal and wanted to order coffee, he didn't even say sorry. At the end of the checkout, he didn't even have the basic courtesy to say thank you. On the other hand, when the local man at the next table was ordering food, he was smiling and had a completely different attitude.

Great experience. All the food was really tasty. The ragu had a proper depth of flavour, seafood pasta delicious and generous. Pizza declared best ever. Tiramisu was so light. The prices are very reasonable. When we finished there was a queue to get in. I see why - my advice is to book a table.

A very nice restaurant with incredibly nice cellars. We felt very comfortable on every visit and would be recognized and warmly welcomed the second time we came. Everyone was polite and very attentive. Unfortunately we didn't have a table reserved, but after a short wait we were able to find a great seat. The food was outstanding: exceptional dishes, freshly prepared and high quality produce. We were always excited.

Lovely lunchtime visit here today - we had a reservation and it was fully booked. Plenty of space inside and a big downstairs area. Very friendly staff, quick service, excellent seafood pasta. We made a reservation to show our respect while didn’t get any respect by return. A long queue outside when we arrived and it was very reasonable for us to step into check our reservation, but the bald manager asked us to wait outside in a loud voice with an unfriendly face. Can’t believe it! Oh it’s just a terrible beginning, unexpected worse was on the road. The guests will arrive in 10 mins but you still didn’t prepare the table well? How did you do your work? The atmosphere was very noisy and crowded. Our table was near to the gate. I don’t think it is a table for reservation, just arrange by random. So what’s the meaning to make reservation on your website 1 week early? Or because we are Asians? We had planned to order some wine for dinner but the waiter had already started to collect all wine glasses on our table when we just seated. My 10 years old girl helped to push her wine glass to the waiter for his convenience, but the waiter was always murmuring no no no and shaking his head. Very strange. I had thought he was joking with my daughter, then realized not joke definitely immediately. It was so rude to a little girl! Can’t believe it once more! The food was very ordinary. It isn’t worthy to visit on purpose absolutely. The “thick”pizza made me doubt whether I am in Pizza Hut or not. Never touch one slice. The bill was given very quickly when we just finished even we didn’t ask for a bill yet, indicating you can leave as soon as possible? Very rude. One of the most authentic reasonably priced Italian around this area. Fantastic flavours and amazing quality of ingredients used. Definitely a place to return. Really crowded so do make a reservation before going. Noisy atmosphere but cosy.

Unexpectedly incredible! I normally feel that the very famous resturant cannot offer the good food in a good price, but this place can. There were nice and clean premise also a good service.

We were seated and waited around half an hour to have our order taken. After that we were forgotten about for a further half an hour and our drinks and olives were not brought out. The waiter came up to us 3 times to ask us what our order was as he couldn’t remember. Said he’d bring our drinks out and he didn’t for a further 15 mins and he forgot about our starter entirely when i reminded him. The women seated next to us was brought the wrong bill. The food was not as good as it used to be and we were just brought our mains with no starter and walked off without asking for cheese or anything else we needed. After asking for the bill we had to wait an additional 30 mins just to have it brought to us. There was two customers that came a little over an hour after us and our bills were paid both at the same time due to us waiting. I had also asked another waiter for the bill as I gave up and he told me to ask my waiter which was talking to a customer about his daughter. The customers seated next to us were discussing how patient we were and how they would react in an angry manner. We felt uncomfortable asking the service charge to be removed but nothing about the service was worth the service charge we paid. We had also made plans after dinner that we could not attend as the service had delayed our night, when we would’ve had sufficient time if the service was decent.

It was really discriminatory against Asians. It was a busy restaurant as it catered to tourists, but the food was not very good. I'm sorry.

Was really looking forward to trying this place, but we waited 1h 20 for our mains and they didn’t show up… we had to leave for a show. The staff barely apologised. A real shame. Noted that they kept our wine topped up though — I wonder if they were just trying to make money off getting us to have more drinks.

I rarely write reviews like this, but I decided to post one because I received such poor service. I am Japanese. After reading the reviews, I was satisfied. This is a store that provides very racist service to Asians. I felt very sad as I had never received this kind of service when visiting London. August 5, 2024 Lunch time Terrace seating ・Overall, the service was clearly different from others. ・Throw the menu on the desk ・There is no explanation of the menu - He rested his elbows on our table when taking orders (which is really impossible) ・Ignore the words even though you can hear them ・No matter how many times I read it, it doesn't come to checkout ・If you try to hand over your credit card when you come to the checkout table, the customer ignores you and goes straight to checkout at another table, where you pay on the spot. It's a real shame because the food was very delicious. I will never come to this restaurant again and I do not recommend it to anyone, regardless of race.

Hands down, the best Italian restaurant in London. We love trying new places but keep returning to Da Mario for 3 reasons: 1. The food is amazing. 2. The atmosphere is brilliant 3. The staff are so welcoming and attentive. Particularly Steve, who always looks after us when we sit upstairs and is a lovely chap and Mario, also super friendly as is everyone. Oh, and the garlic prawns are out of this world. 😀

You may have noticed i gave 3 stars for the service, but 5 overall. Thats how much i like this place. Its fantastic DESPITE the service. (Unless what they’re going for is a stereotypical annoyed italian server thing and I was not informed). Came for a friend's birthday, the staff were very helpful in ensuring we had a good time celebrating. Heard alot about the seafood pasta and the rigatoni da mario, and both went beyond my expectations. The seafood pasta was packed with ingredients and didn't feel heavy. The rigatoni da mario had an amazing cream sauce. Definitely also recommend the garlic bread (which looks like a mini pizza) and their tiramisu Would come back here again definitely

We are delighted with this establishment. For starters they welcome you amazingly, the food is something from another world. We ordered the pappardelle ragu (which we could’ve ordered another one because it was amazing) a cestino di pane al l’aglio o senza and a boscaiola (which although it’s a veggie pizza it was amazing), everything to share and we had trouble finishing the desserts (tiramisu and homemade pistachio ice cream). Some of the waiters are Italian and some others speak Spanish which made our dinner so much easier as we are Spanish. Definitely a place to go back!
