Outstanding food and service. Can't wait to go back

We wanted a quick service, but we fancied an authentic experience of elegance and tastiness. We stumbled across this restaurant, and it was exactly what we were looking for. The service was fast, and it was by far one of the best pasta dishes we had received. The kind staff took our jackets, sat us down, and gave us an authentic experience. They left us to enjoy our meal which we wish we had more of!

I came here due to the positive reviews on TA. This is a family run business, and the owner is constantly on the move between tables. The place was full when I went and there was a great atmosphere. Food is good and staff very nice I haven't given five stars due to the slightly cramped tables.

We booked here to eat after a matinee performance on a Tuesday at the Shaftesbury theatre as it was a very short walk away. We were made to feel very special and comfortable on arrival. All the staff were very attentive and ready to take your order or answer menu questions if needed. I ordered seabass with lemon which I had not seen on a menu anywhere before and seabass is my go to frequently. My husband ordered pollo milanese which is his go to and he said it was the best he’d had anywhere. We had a great chat with Bruno who greets you with a proper South London accent but surprises you by talking to his colleagues in fluent Italian. We found out he speaks many languages - not sure if he realises how cool this sounds. The food was delicious, the atmosphere relaxed and the staff impeccable. We will definitely return.

Have known this small restaurant for years, although it is some time since I previously visited. The staff are efficient, friendly and attentive. The food was good, though expensive.

Was in London recently to see a show, at the last minute my wife and I booked seats at this restaurant. What can I say, small, cosy, welcoming and that’s without the food. The food was absolutely delicious and I can’t recommend this place enough. Looking forward to visiting London again and eating here again.

Absolutely superb, from the welcome to the drinks (especially the espresso martinis) beautiful, food was absolutely delicious starters, main and dessert. Took my son for pre-theatre meal here as part of his Christmas present and first time in London for him. Highly recommended and service was delightful. The atmosphere was immersed in the full Italian experience.

One of the best Italian restaurants in London. The kind and warm welcome of the Italian manager makes the atmosphere wonderful from the first moment. We ate Burata Cheese, Meat pasta, ravioli, seafood pasta and tiramisu. They were all very delicious individually. We drank pink wine and the wine was great too. We had a very enjoyable time as a family. Thank you very much.

The WORST Experience in Covent Garden Area Ever! We arrived 10 min later than the reservation time and this waiter publicly swore at us and acted extravagantly. He looked at his watch and shouted, “when is your reservation? Oh 6pm. What time is it now? Oh 6:15” He was so rude and even ridiculed us when we left the restaurant. How dare it charges us service charges??

Racist restaurant. Receptionist chased us to our table and gave us a whole lecture including ‘I don’t know where you come from but this is London.´ Can’t believe we have to pay for this and their lousy food. They also stole the name of the much better restaurant in South Kensington, when they’re totally unrelated.

The BEST independent Italian in London. I have been 4 times, every time I have tried something different and have been licking the plate. The staff eat their own food on their breaks which to me is the biggest green flag that the food is delicious. I wish I could come here every week. The family who own this place make you feel like you’re an extension of the family. LOVE LOVE LOVE!

The food was well presented, flavorsome, well balanced, and more'ish. We were offered time between courses to digest our food, allowing us space to appreciate the following dish. The drinks were of equally great standard, and overall, we could not have had a more wonderful experience. The staff were professionally, engaging, warm, and friendly. It was a memorable experience, and one we will recall with fondness and delight. Yes, we will return. Yes, we would definitely recommend. We had a great evening at da Mario's. The food and service were both excellent. The place was full and there was a lively atmosphere. Cater well for those eating GF. Would thoroughly recommend and look forward to returning when we're next in London.

What an amazing family owned restaurant! I highly recommend booking, as we did not but they were kind enough to squeeze us in. We met the owner on the number 8 bus, a true hospitality gentleman, he helped us get to Covent Garden, but not before welcoming us into his beautiful, family run restaurant for a coffee and dessert, we sat chatting with him and his true care and passion for the restaurant business shone through, we only wish we knew of this restaurant before we booked a main stream one in covent garden. The food is very good.. The only thing is the place is small there is a lot of noise you can't even talk to the person at the table..

In September we celebrated our youngest daughter’s graduation, which was a great day and needed the perfect ending . . . so we booked our favourite special occasion restaurant. Bruno and the team at Da Mario were on great form, and we spent a wonderful long evening with them, eating the best food including Vongole (a favourite for the girls) and the Filetto con Porcini, and so much more. After a wonderful meal, we enjoyed limoncello and fantastic grappa and just about made the last train home. Thank you all for being amazing xx

Authentic Italian that puts food and the customer first. No white walls, smoked glass and chrome here, just good old fashioned hospitality. Excellent food provided by a team that understands that is about what's on your plate and the ambience it's served in.

We were welcome Dan to this fully booked restaurant who managed to find a space for us and had a really delicious meal. The only reason I get four for service is I did find the waiters almost a little over attentive. Cleaning all table every 5 seconds. Otherwise an incredible vaillant. The boss who greeted us at the door is just the most warm and lovely host. Thank you very much. We will always come here if we can get in

This was our second visit so our expectations were already set and the evening was superb in every way. This restaurant is an absolute gem - such fabulous food, attentive friendly service and wonderful atmosphere. Most definitely the best Italian food we have ever eaten and we can see why the restaurant has built up the incredible reputation that it has. We can’t wait to go back. Stand out dishes were the beef ragu, tiramisu and crème brûlée, but in time we hope to work our way through the menu and try some of the other fabulous dishes.

El menú era muy bueno. Había varios entrantes y platos principales que habría comido felizmente. El servicio fue excelente, amable pero no en su cara y atento durante toda la comida. Esta fue una de las mejores comidas que hemos tenido en mucho tiempo, y lo recomendamos encarecidamente.

Muy rara vez en estos días un restaurante entrega en todos los sentidos... pero el equipo y la gerencia aquí lo tienen absolutamente clavado. El servicio era atento pero nunca se precipitó, la comida estaba fuera de este mundo (todavía pensando en ravioles de jabalí ahora! ) y la dirección nos hizo sentir que habíamos estado yendo durante años (y era nuestra primera vez! ) . Extremely friendly staff in a cozy place. Food is phenomenal(chicken and steak were amazing). Pasta is perfectly cooked (al dente).

Absolutely loved this place! Started with the Bruschetta—super fresh and full of flavor. Then, for mains, we shared the Pollo Milanese with Penne Arrabbiata and Tagliata di Manzo con Rucola. The chicken was perfectly crispy, the penne had just the right amount of spice, and the steak was melt-in-your-mouth good. The music and cozy vibe made it feel like a little slice of Italy. Friendly service too. Can’t wait to go back!

I went there after receiving a recommendation. The food was not too salty for Korean tastes and the doneness of the noodles and risotto were both good. I was surprised by the service provided by the staff, who first took your coat at the entrance and hung it up for you, and kept looking at you as you passed by while you were eating. I was worried about cramble roll and tiramisu, so he recommended tiramisu, but I ended up finishing it well and leaving. thank you!

the service was impeccable, the manager/owner + his nephew were phenomenal. The food was brilliant, my wife and I celebrated our 15 wedding anniversary here before heading off to Mrs doubtfire, we were in a bit of a rush but the staff were positive we would make the show and enjoy a lovely meal before hand without feeling rushed, the manager/owner came and spoke to us during our meal and made us feel like one of the family. We have already decided to revisit this restaurant for our next time we are in London for a show, this resturant and staff give off the feel of a old school itialian restaurant with the experience feeling like you have known the staff for years.

This was the best Italian meal ive ever had. We had the minestrone soup and deep fried shrimp with zucchini as starter and vongole and mushroom risotto as main. It was truly an astonishing dinner dish experience on a Friday night and will definitely revisit. The staffs were extremely helpful and sweet. 100% THE BEST ITALIAN PLACE IN LONDON.

Although the store is small, it is lively and has a good atmosphere. No matter what we ordered, it was delicious and we had a happy time.

Sometimes I wonder if I am in the same restaurant that others have recommended. The dining room is cramped and noisy, the wine available in a carafe was mediocre and both main dishes were too salty. The waiter was good but could not make up for the general experience.

Service was amazing and food was delicious. Sat outside and the atmosphere was just delightful. Right when I was about to leave, the staff offered me a little something extra, and it was a perfect end to the experience. Run, don't walk, to Da Mario.

Went on a Friday dinner date with my wife after her dentist appointment in Covent Garden. It was nice sitting outside and the service from the staff was amazing, warm and friendly and made us smile. The menu had great options and we loved both our starters and mains. Will definitely come back when we're next in the area - highly recommend.

What a delicious meal! The space was a little tight but everything else was top notch. The folks here seem to genuinely care, the prices were reasonable, and the food was absolutely fantastic. The lasgna was particularly good and the apple dessert was unexpected and a real highlight!

Pokey and busy, friendly and jovial, Da Mario serves excellent pasta dishes with clearly quality ingredients, and it has become my ‘local’ every time I visit London. Heady Italian wine and incredible food is served by an experienced staff team, and everyone is left feeling like the most important customer out that night. The decor is simple and the dining room can get noisy, but it all contributes to the experience.

Fabulous pasta, finally a pasta made well in London and accompanied by a great Steven from Rome!! Steven's special welcome pampered us all evening and made us feel at home A sincere corner of Italy where, weather permitting, you can eat excellent quality dishes outdoors in a refined environment I was with my family, wife and 3 children and I will definitely return

We visited Da Mario on Sunday Aug 18 prior to a show in the area. Last minute reservation request was accommodated. We had a fabulous dinner, with outstanding service by server Emilio, and drink and wine recommendations by the bar manager (sorry, forgot the name). We were in London 8 nights, Da Mario was one of the top dinner experiences.

Absolutely fabulous Al Fresco dining experience at Da Mario. The restaurant is in a relatively quieter street of Covent Garden which makes it a perfect setting for Al Fresco dining, if the weather is good. Food was heavenly and service was warm, friendly and attentive. Overall superb Italian find, will visit again !!

This was a lovely family run restaurant. Nice not to have to visit a chain. Greeted with a handshake and a Prosecco for my birthday when we arrived. Had a lovely table outside on the street so a lovely atmosphere. The waiter was very friendly and quite quirky ! We had bruschetta and antipasto to start which was delicious and then I had a beef and mushroom tagliatelle and husband had wild Boar ravioli. Really was all delicious. Had a bottle of wine and I think the bill was about £100. Would definitely recommend this restaurant and will definitely go back when we are visiting the area.

The manager did not let us enter with our baby in a rude and arrogant manner. He only allowed us to sit outside. I would never recommend this place.

Myself and my daughter came across this little gem by chance on a trip to Bloch dance in Covent Garden and so pleased we did. The menu boasts an excellent choice of traditional Italian dishes and the food we had was absolutely amazing, the portions were generous and the price was very reasonable, for London prices. The owner and waiters were extremely friendly and polite and the overall ambience was just perfect. We will definitely be back!

Where do I start ? Well, I was last here a year ago when I came across this wonderful Italian restaurant by a happy accident. This place is the real deal.. genuine Italian hospitality, food and staff. The owner greeted me the last time I was here and gave me his card, which I kept and this helped me find the restaurant again on this nice quiet street in Covent Garden. He was on vacation this time around but lucky for me a lovely guy called Emilio was duty and took great care of me.. I even asked for spaghetti A.O.P. - which wasn’t on the menu - and this was no problem for Emilio to arrange for me. So thank you to Emilio and Bruno for your friendliness to a solo traveller. Your tiramisu is the best !! I’ll see you again.

Great food but the service was an average. Staff kept coming to our table every few minutes and felt like he wants us to rush and leave the place.

Stopped for dinner as we are staying a few nights nearby. We were seated promptly because we had another engagement immediately followiing dinner, so they found a spot for us before an upcoming reservation would need the table. They do recommend a reservation. However, never felt rushed. Service was excellent and very welcoming. All 4 of our dinners were really good. The best Italian I have had in a long time, maybe ever.

Very good traditional pasta. Cooked nicely al dente. The arancini were a bit of a let down because they didn’t have much filling. Was a bit on the expensive side and you were required to order a starter and a main after a certain time of day. The staff were friendly and we got limoncello on the house.

Disappointing meal . Very noisy restaurant with tables very close together. You have to buy 2 course after 1700 and desert doesn’t count . Entrees were average- prawn cocktail and fried cheese, popular in the 70’s maybe. The pastas were better but not great. Not worth the money

My friend's and I had lunch today, 31st May 2024. The staff are incredibly! So friendly and welcoming absolutely lovely. The food was outstanding we each had something different and everything is cooked fresh. I am allergic to Prawns and Shrimps and they made sure everything was perfect for me to eat. My friend's and I go out every so often and we are now planning when we can book again. This place was amazing and well worth booking if you want proper Italian food. Thank you Da Mario for a memorable lunch we will be back.

Booked this place for my bday bac in July 2023, it was a Saturday. Middle of the summer, they didn’t have AC working, it was absolutely scorching inside, couldn’t breathe, was so hot and stuffy, kept chugging water, had to beg for ice. Waiters are old and condescending. Overpriced and you can’t just have a main dish, you MUST order 1 starter per person first. Nice food tho but a typical tourist trap in Covent Garden

Authentic Italian food, made fresh and absolutely delicious. For the Minestrone soup expect and get plenty of fresh vegetables and piping hot. The bruschetta was the best I have tasted for some time. The Lasagne tasty and well flavoured. Finish off with the Panna Cotta and you won't be disappointed. Your need to book as this place is popular. Deposit needed but we'll worth the commitment as you shouldn't or wouldn't want to miss this great restaurant whilst in the area. Recommended +++

Discovered this by chance, having been aware it was there for some years but not gone there. Service is great and friendly and the food seems exceptional. Will definitely go again when in the area.

Well the evening started off fine and then a random slug appeared from somewhere, maybe the salad we ate? Our waiter was rude and tried to ignore the situation by the look on his face and when he said it must have come from outside, I then said well there is no wind or anything so it must have come from the salad!! I still had to pay for the food but he did take out the service charge! Will not go back!!
