Still the best. Our family have been regulars here since they opened. We come down from Cambridge to Hurst a few times a year to stay with family and always get fish and chips from here. Outstanding every time. Never fails to be fresh. Great selection of fish. You won’t regret eating food from here.

I don't know what you guys put in your curry sauce...but my god it is the best chippy curry sauce I have ever tasted!!! Everything was fresh, hot and delicious. Can't wait to try again🙂

Always a warm welcome and banter when you arrive for your fish and chips. I’m amazed that a small chippy in a small town, village really, presents some of the best fish and chips in the country. We recently visited Rick Steins chippy in Cornwall, got to say I think yours are better. I’d visit more often but I live 360 miles away so it’s a bit of a track!

Ordered gluten free battered sausage and chips, on a Tuesday (gluten free night). Have since been seriously unwell.

I’ve been coming here for the past couple of years, I don’t write many (if any) reviews. I felt compelled, due to the quality of the fish and chips here. Crossways is excellent, outstanding, superb. I think it’s ‘up there’ as the best fish and chips I’ve ever had and I have eaten a lot of fish and chips over the years! Definitely the best fish and chips in Sussex! All fried freshly to order, very friendly staff. Order in advance if you can. Highly recommended!

We ordered fish (one gluten-free), chips, mushy peas and saveloy. All delicious - fresh fish, crispy batter not greasy - chips crunchy and beautifully cooked. Highly recommend especially if gluten-free ( only available Tuesday and Wednesday) - happy customer

The fish and chips here are always immense. Be prepared for a wait as everything is freshly cooked, but it's well worth ten minutes of dangling around.

Best fish and chips ive had in a long time. Definitely my go to if im in Burgess Hill. 10 minute drive. Onion rings are great too and its a well run and traditional establishment, everyone is smiling, helpful and dressed smart. A proud establishment and the fish and chips taste perfect.

Had a takeaway lunch from Crossways for the family last week and this was as good as any fish and chips we have ever had. Fresh white fish, crispy batter and golden chips. Hot and tasty. Wish we had a shop as good as this near where we live. Highly recommended.

We had a friend visit from Surrey this evening and pre-ordered for delivery. The fish and chips and halloumi and chips were excellent ,so good our friend asked us to write this review as he thoroughly enjoyed his meal.

Delicious food freshly made to order, ready after ~15mins. Staff are very kind. Only feedback would be that the curry sauce is a little salty - but we just didn't salt the chips to offset.

May just be my favourite chippy. Excellent selection of food, including light bites/smaller portions, Locally sourced pies and sausages. Staff are friendly, service is superb. Would heartily recommend. Worth ordering in advance at weekends though!

We entered this fish and chip shop after 1.30pm on a Friday lunch time and, as we were the last customers, the owner had to prepare our order of haddock and chips from scratch. We had to wait for about 25 minutes but it certainly was worth it. The fish, in particular, was absolutely delicious - probably the best we have ever tasted. We shall be down to Hurstpierpoint in the future as our daughter and family are moving there and it will be a real pleasure to head back to this particular establishment (almost a good reason to buy a house there).

I came here at just before 8pm on a Saturday (I didn’t realise at the time they were just closing) but they were extremely pleasant when I walked in, happily served me and the food was very yummy. Brilliant customer service and fantastic food. I will definitely be returning and recommending to all. Thank you!

I was at the farm next door and i was feeling hungry , popped online and found this place with quite a lot of reviews and it was only 1 minute away so i thought why not . What you see in the picture cost me £17.20 with a pot of curry and 4 sachets of Tomato sauce . £17.20 for a fish and chips . Wish it were worth it , just an average chippy . Not for me . Couldnt imagine how much id pay if i was feeding me family .

Tot dusver onze beste fish&chips ever in de UK. Omdat alle restaurants volgeboekt zijn in deze plaats hebben wij gekozen voor de takeaway. Meestal ben ik teleurgesteld als ik UK's signature dish bestel maar vandaag dus niet. Supergoeie verse kabeljauw met een topkorst en niet te vet. De chips zijn dik, smaken naar aardappel en zijn krokant gebakken. Dit is een adresje waarvoor ik een omweg rijden waard vind!

Good old fashioned fish & chip shop, very efficient and the quality is absolutely spot on. One of the best if not THE best in Sussex.

As locals, we have visited crossways regularly since they opened. Without a doubt a brilliant chip shop, far superior than any chip shop in Brighton!

Gf batter on 2 days a week means i can enjoy the best fish and chips for miles around. Fish is really fresh and the gf batter is really good , as are the chips .

Really nice and good fish and chip shop with an interesting and varied menu. Nice and clean and all staff were polite and courteous. Excellent quality food, I had a delicious Haddock portion with plenty of chips and really enjoyed my meal. One disappointment was the vinegar bottle I bought to bring home, it hardly had any flavour and tasted really watered down. They don't make this product so I can't mark them down for that. Happy to recommend 👌

I'm not local to Crossways, I was staying at an Airbnb just down the road, actually live in London. I can honestly say this was the nicest fish and chips i've ever had! Crunchy fluffy chips, crunchy fresh tasty fish that didn't fall to pieces and wasn't soggy with oil. I think I said "wow" too many times to count while eating it. Absolutely gutted I may never get to eat it again!

As good as all the reviews. Fish is of very good quality, and the batter mix is a lovely colour when cooked. Regular sized cod is a bit on the small side, I'd call it small. I'd recommend large cod. Large chips will do two people however. If you can, call in and order, it is far quicker to get your supper than phoning. If I could make one suggestion it would be to give customers a receipt after payment which they could produce when their order is ready. I was asked what I'd ordered to prove I was the person who had ordered only fifteen minutes before, in person.

I had read the reviews but the reality was even better. The chips were tasty and beautifully cooked , the batter on the fish was super crispy and nothing greasy about them. The grand children enjoyed their equally delicious jumbo batters sausage and my son was a fan of the curry sauce. The mushy peas were also delicious.

Told to collect at half past the hour, had to wait out in the rain for 20 minutes. Well overcooked fish, rock hard battered sausage and pretty sure they forgot the salt and vinegar.

These guys really know how to cook fish and chips. It always surprises me when a fish and chip shop gets something like cooking chips so wrong. Crossways chips are well cooked, not at all soggy and their curry sauce and mushy peas are not over flavoured but just right. Then I discover all of their packaging is either recyclable, compostable or biodegradable. You can't ask for any more. Well done Crossways.. You got it just right 👍

Just had fish supper from crossways fish and chips. Cod was tasty and batter crispy without being soaked in oil. Chips tasted like homemade ones and again not greasy. The food is always freshly cooked to order and is delicious. Tonight we pre-ordered and our fish and chips were piping hot and probably better than ever before. Our favourite chippy!

After driving past this place for six months, I gave this a try, and my WORD was this a hit! I could easily find myself getting addicted... 10/10 from this jury! Update: Gave this a second try just to make sure. Fish is cooked to perfection, the batter is incredibly tasty and has a very fine crunchy crispy sensation even 15 minutes after purchasing. Chips are perfectly crispy on the outside and soft, almost baked potato-like on the inside. I don't know what actually goes on at this chippy, but I'm beginning to suspect they're wizards. Wow!

Very well cooked, (to order), chips are 'double cooked' I believe which means they are nice, crispy and dry and you do NOT end up with a greasy pool.

Best fish and chips for a fair distance. My only criticism is you can’t order by phone in the evenings so have to go and wait in the shop - which on a Friday night is very busy.

Outstanding quality fish and chips with quite honestly the best chicken nuggets I have ever eaten anywhere. It takes a while for your order as they’re so so popular but there are plenty of places to look at in the area, including a pub and a bar within easy walking distance. Best to park in the town car park.

The fish and chips are delicious. I often include the mushy peas which are very good. Sometimes when I am out walking I’ll drop in just for a bag of chips.

Fish and chips as it should be, Ordered Plaice, Cod and Medium chips. Had to wait, but this is ok when it is cooked to order, all prepared in front of you, friendly staff, not a cheap lunch, but very nice, will visit again.

Had a "light bite" cod and chips, cooked fresh. This was so worth the short (5 minute) wait, beautifully tasty chips and the cod was white and meaty in a nice batter. served in a cardboard box with a complimentary wooden fork. DELICIOUS

Have used Crossways on a number of occasions since moving to Hurst. I have to say, it has always been consistently excellent. Freshly cooked, tasty, not overly greasy. Good sized portions and well priced for the quality of the food. Always a pleasure!
