Cross Keys Hotel Knutsford in Cheshire East

Couldn’t fault the staff but unfortunately very dirty rooms.

I'm giving a well deserved 5 stars after reading all the negative comments. Upon reading them I was absolutely filled with dread about our booking. When we arrived all the staff were friendly, helpful and polite. Our room was ready at time of check in. It was a bit of a trek to our room and didn't relish having to do that too often. The room was spacious and well equipped. Included was tea and coffee facilities, ironing board and iron, hairdryer, mini heater and fan cooler. In the bathroom there was toilet rolls, shower gels and moisturiser. The room was clean and functional. Cosmetically it could do with a face lift as it was slightly tired in appearance. The following morning we had two delicious full English breakfasts with tea/coffee and juice. Continental breakfast was also a choice and all included in the price. We paid £67.00 for the room and breakfast which was great value. We did not experience any of the issues mentioned in the bad posts and having gone with zero expectations we were more than happy. Don't book the Cross Keys unless you relish the inconvenience and extra cost of having to re-book again just before you go.  After booking my hotel room two months ago and booking tickets for a local event, the Cross Keys cancelled my booking without warning two weeks before my event.  No correspondence or explanation from the venue. No apology. Just  an email from booking.com saying that the Cross Keys had initiated the cancellation due to the hotel overbooking its rooms.  Mistakes happen but a quick phone call or apologetic email was clearly too much effort for the Cross Keys staff who supposedly work in the hospitality sector.

Disappointed to have to put a single star as we have been totally conned out of our money. Booked and rang in advance to request we stay in a room that hadn't accommodated a dog the night before due to allergies. A request we have never had an issue with at other hotels... They personally advised we book another hotel and get refunded as they'd hate for us to feel uncomfortable...very thoughtful you'd think. Well almost 2 months later and we are still down over £100. Whilst staying at the alternative hotel, I decided to pay a visit in person and discuss the lack of acknowledgement for our refund. The lady who continues to say she has only worked there for x amount of weeks, couldn't have been more apologetic and said she will personally contact me within 24 hours...that was 4 weeks ago. (Don't fall for this) So here I am to share a couple of pointers: When they say request a refund through booking.com, I'm sorry but they're never going to approve it. When you call and they say the manager is in a meeting, I'm sorry but they don't want to help you... They are ALWAYS in a meeting. And when this lady says she's worked there for x amount of days or weeks, I'm sorry but she's not interested. Thank you Cross Keys for stealing our money, I wish you all the best.

Room not refreshed, spoke to Housekeeping who said they knew they hadn't done it as called to the bar to serve at lunchtime, said they'd sort it and didn't. Came back from dinner, pub had closed early, no staff on site, and I had to go looking for towels myself. Dirty bathroom, mouldy, not even attempted to be cleaned. Shower rail hanging off the wall. Oh and the room was in the attic with no headroom at the end of the bed, so you are bent double to cross the room. I won't be staying here again.

I recently stayed at the Cross Keys Knutsford it was for a special occasion!Recently taken over by new manager!Unable to serve food at present due to new ownership,but assured they plan to do so!My room was fabulous everything you needed,staff were extremely polite/helpful!Has its own car park which is helpful!We ventured up to Tatton Park/local eateries/pubs/shops etc!I enjoyed our stay immensely and definitely would book again!Scored 10/10.for me!

Booked an room for one night. Shocking and unable to stay. The room was so dirty and had not been cleaned from the previous guests. I paid for breakfast but was told there was no breakfast and I would need to contact booking.com for a refund. There was no wifi in the room and no phone coverage. A big problem when trying to work. Security camera removed from room entrance and fire extinguisher left outside the front door. Avoid this run down dirty shambles at all cost.

Arrived 45 minutes after check in time and the room still wasn't ready, went for some food and came back to the room to find it had been poorly cleaned, no toilet roll or shower gel. The next day we went down to discuss this with Cameron and he offered us a very flexible check out, which was very good of him. Cameron was on his own and has been left in the lurch, I fear that the hotel we used to visit regularly will be closed soon owing to the fact the staff aren't supported. The brewery need to get a grip of this at the soonest opportunity and save a pub/hotel that has great potential. Get a team in to clean the place properly, a lick of paint, clean the garden area, but most of all recruit some staff and do what it takes to retain them.

Been trying to ring this pub for over a month says the landline is busy every time useless staff can’t use a phone

Had a table booked for 6 people. The place was closed when we got there.

Staff helpful and friendly. Food good. Typical pub but lacking atmosphere. However,I visited lunchtime when it wasn't busy, so may be different in the evening.

We booked a room, but when we arrived, there was no one to show us to our room. The landlady said it was her first week and she was still working out where the different rooms were. The room was ok. However, the shower would not drain and be in danger of flooding the bathroom, so I could not shower; there was no one to help fix it, and I was told there were other issues in the rooms waiting to be fixed, but the brewery wouldn't do anything. I so had to borrow a plunger and fix it myself; it was then I noticed the shower tray was filthy, the only bin, and it was in the bathroom, and this had not been emptied. The carpet was dusty, and the sheets had blood spots on them! While the staff did their best, it turned out they were in their first week or day and didn't know what to do. I would not recommend it.

Booked a room for a night, travelled 2 hours to get there (arrived just before 6pm), made to wait 15 minutes when barman knew I was after checking in, only to be told there was no room available as they had double booked. Said they couldn't help find an alternative and to just contact booking.com for a refund. Couldn't care less that we had nowhere to stay. Awful service and really advise anyone to give it a miss. Surely if a double booking had occured they would have phoned by that time to tell us, just totally unprofessional. It does look to have the foundations to be a great place but definitely needs new staff/management.

Rude new staff. Saw the bartender turn away a family of 5 when they asked if they serve food and when I asked for a cocktail they simply looked at me and said “no”. Won’t bother coming here again.

Stayed over Fri to sun for a near by wedding. We had our two little grandsons with us ages 6 and 2 so we had our work cut out. The staff were amazing so friendly. We were told new management had taken over a couple of weeks ago but they tended to our needs so well. We want to thak you so much, you were fantastic and wish you all the best for the future, we're sure you'll do well. 👍. Lots of love from Michael and Jenny. 😘.

Wetherspoons style menu, having said that it was nice food. Friendly staff and nice inside. Very doggo friendly which is nice to see.

I had a very nice room up at the very top of the hotel. There was a great view . The room was immaculate and I liked the slopey ceilings but with contemporary decor. The staff were very helpful . I will definitely be staying again.

Nice pub. Hotel is OK, no aircondition in the rooms.

Good food , and price.. never been let down..

Been a regular here for ages it was my go to place to order a full English and I'd eat it in the beer garden. New owner took over so I went and tried it out. I tried to order food to the garden and he moaned that the stairs hurt his knees made us feel awkward.

Rude new staff, always parked at back car park with old staff never had a problem. New staff said not allowed and I received a parking ticket. Food and service also gone down hill

Unfortunately our room was dirty and needed up data I don't ever use this site but for £140 there was much better and cheaper hotels on the rd

Came in for lunch whilst in Knutsford. I had the Thai curry with chicken and it was lovely. The guys who were working were really friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend and will return.

Lovely beer garden with play area on the edge of country side & the Rochdale canal didn't have food but it looked good good choice of beers wheelchair accessible good car park

This old building is charming, and the rooms are modern, clean, and have everything you need. The staff is friendly and helpful, and the breakfast has a good variety of options. It's just a short walk to a beautiful park with a lake, and there are lots of restaurants, cafes, and shops nearby.

I cannot comment t on food etc. Only stopped for a drinknwith friends . This place has been around d years and it's a nice place to have a drink.

Stayed one night for work. Too late to eat dinner, but nice ales available. Staff were very freindly and helpful. The room and bathroom are very nicely decorated - much better quality than budget chain hotels, but this was cheaper. Location right in the heart of the town, 5 minute stroll to train station. Full cooked breakfast was really good.

Stayed here for two nights. Hotel was super dog friendly and the food was amazing, reasonably priced and very quick to come out of the kitchen. Can’t recommend the steak enough. They have a good selection of drinks aswell and the bar men and women are great. Ordering drinks on the mypub app doesn’t come through to the bar though and we were waiting 30 minutes before being told this. Little area for dogs to get some water and treats!! Great outdoor area behind the hotel! Unfortunately we were woken up each night at half 5 in the morning and upon saying this to a staff member they said it was their friends room and there was a couple of friends over every night. Slightly appalling that it was a staff members friends and they couldn’t have the courtesy to respect other people that sleep during the night and be quiet entering and exiting the building. One night we thought people were trying to enter our room mistakenly so they must’ve had a good few drinks. It’s a hotel not someone’s playground.

Nice spacious rooms well equipped quite a climb up the stairs but there is ground floor accommodation for people who need it breakfast available if wanted but we ate elsewhere so can't comment on food overall nice experience will go there again

Had a breakfast which was excellent. Service was very good and quick and all in a historic pub.

Food really good nice pleasant staff room warm and cozy perfect for a one night stay good on site parking.

I stayed here 27th - 30th March and everything was spot on, the room was lovely, the food was on point & most of all my host Jess was a legend. Stay here, everything is slay

Nice pub beer was good as I love peroni & San miguel lager I was spoiled for choice what to pick, service was quick & friendly, football was on as a football fan it was perfect pub for me, toilets were really good & clean, what was unique dog biscuits at the bar I know as it was my first visit to knutsford I saw alot of dogs as I was walking throu the town.

Was taken there for mother's day had an excellent meal. The roast dinner was the best I've ever had

Quaint old pub , food is quite nice, my room was in the separate block from The pub, i was pleasantly surprised the room was very nice, proper coffee machine, comfortable bed, only issue was the room was very cold, room has central heating and a small heater. Live music in the pub aswell. Little tricky to find the carpark.

Much better service compared to my previous visit. The lady with the red hair was much more welcoming than the member of staff I encountered last time. Chatted with the too chef who was also Very friendly and helpful. The food was great on both occasions to be fair. Pork belly burger is fantastic value and quality.

Incompetent bar staff, strong smell of bleach throughout and expensive bottles of cheap wine. The beer garden just stunk of stale cigarettes which was vile. What an awful place to drink.

Just stopped in to watch football. Nice pub great atmosphere.

Food was ok and the staff were very attentive, I think the place could do with a facelift though

Nice pub to watch the football on a Wednesday night, however closed at 21:55! Didn’t even shout last orders just switched the lights on then stopped serving. Odd given there were a lot of people in the bar at the time.

Lovely quirky pub. Went for a drink to watch the Penny Farthing bike race.

The food was delicious. We had the sharing platter and a portion of sweet potato fries between 4 people and it filled us up. The beer was nice and fresh. The staff were really friendly. Nice atmosphere.

The room we stayed in was quite dim with the only natural light coming from a small light well. However, the bed was exceptionally comfortable, the shower was powerful and easy to operate, and there was very decent WiFi. Plus, our room had a Nespresso machine and a generous selection of pods and teabags. It felt like a real refuge and we loved it. My full English breakfast in the morning was freshly cooked (a real rarity these days) and was absolutely sensational. The Cross Keys might not be to everyone's taste but in my view they did all the important things very well indeed so it's a top recommendation from me.

One of the nicest stays we have had in a while, room was spacious and very clean, Josh was so welcoming and helpful on arrival. Food was delicious Will definitely be back!

Stayed here on Saturday 15th for a family wedding in Knutsford, we booked 4 rooms, which very comfortable and clean. The staff where extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. None of us could fault the breakfast which waz fresh and piping hot, you could also have as much coffee or tea as you wanted. We would definitely stay again. We wish to say thank you to all the staff👍

Being my first time in Knutsford I was hesitant and then the staff were amazing, really helpful and accommodating. Highly recommend staying in the hotel and grabbing a drink and food. Thank you to everyone that looked after me!

Visiting the area with a group of friends over the weekend so dropped in late on Saturday evening. MayDay celebrations had been happening all day, and the majority of people were absolutely paralytic. To say it was lively is an understatement. Maybe I'm just getting old, but there were people falling into oncoming traffic outside the pub, and a young lass almost got swiped by a passing ambulance. The music was banging, which if my friends and I were as drunk as everyone around us would be OK. Honestly, it's not the kind of place I'd usually go for a drink and wouldn't visit again. I can see the appeal if you're 18 and rat @rsed!

Lovely proper traditional pub pub!! Great drinks and prices. Buzzy atmosphere with sports on plenty of great TVs for those that want it. But best of all - best chease and bacon burger and chips ever!! Lovely selection of traditional desserts, too. 😃 very, very dog friendly with free treats and water bowls and super friendly staff. Highly recommended.

Not a bad pub, goof staff, sunday dinner service could of been better, letting us know if things wasnt available would of helped us make better decisions on food choice but none the less a good little pub

We had a really comfy stay at the cross keys, room was nice although a little dusty in places it had Good coffee & Tea making facilities. The outside stable room was what we had and although it’s a working pub and people can sit directly outside your room on benches that area closes at 9pm so you never have to worry about noise. I would stay again and I would recommend a stay here.

Great old pub, but limited choice of Ciders. Lots of beers though. Staff somewhat aperthetic and smelling if smoke. Food was bland and delivered in a thrown together style.

Very lovely hotel, my single bed room was lovely, very clean, had been sanitised and smelt fresh and clean. It had every thing I needed in , tea, coffee etc, tv, radio etc. The staff were very friendly and Lyn looked after our every need. Breakfast was great too. I would highly recommend staying here. Thankyou Lyn for looking after us. It was much appreciated. We will be back. 🤗

Lovely place to stay ! Really friendly staff ,room was lovely and absolutely spotless. Breakfast was tasty too and seeing me by myself server took time to engage in conversation and ended up helping me greatly by giving me directions to where I needed to go in Knutsford . Left charger in my room called few days later and they are sending back to me refusing even to take a payment for postage !! Would definitely stay again should I ever be back in Knutsford.

Great pub, atmosphere always relaxed. Sport on the TV and food is on point.

Dog friendly, good location (parking in the car park just outside down the hill), service wasn't Meh and so was the food but does the job.

Very good price for a clean, spacious, tidy and well equipped room. The staff was very helpful and the breakfast was amazing. Strongly recommended.
