2024-04-25 Stopped for lunch with a group of 12. Service was first-rate - professional with great humour and friendliness. Very welcoming. The ambience was charming. Variety of choices on the menu allowed for everyone to find something that appealed to them. Everyone in our group loved their meals. I chose the Posh Fish Finger Wrap, and it was so delicious. The basil tartare on the battered haddock was fabulous, and both it and the chips were cooked to perfection. If I lived any closer than Ontario, 🇨🇦 Canada, this would definitely be a regular spot for me. If I'm ever back anywhere in the area, it will be a must-do stop for a meal. So glad our coach driver had heard of it and had always wanted to try it. Can't recommend it highly enough.

It was great to pop back for a bite to eat while in the area. The place is looking fantastic!!! We loved the new colour scheme in the restaurant. Staff were great (served by Jade), and the manager (Kera) was doing brilliant holding things down on a very busy bar. Kudos of the Paela to the chef who I had to thank in person of course (Daz).

(This is just for the restaurant not the hotel) I've eaten in this restaurant a few times before when we've visited the area. It's become a regular favourite of ours. However the latest trip was not a good experience. Essentially I think they were too busy with either not enough staff or new staff. The food was nice but the service was quite poor. Very polite but very inattentive. Hopefully a better experience in future. Maybe avoid the busy months?

I can't rate the rooms as we didn't stay, we had Sunday lunch as a family. The food was good, but the service was poor. It wasn't that busy either. Some of our party ordered the pork, the menu states that it comes with crackling, none of the pork plates had crackling on them, which was disappointing.

Very poor service from the lady in front of house. Very short, rude and snappy. Grilled Halloumi salad was very disappointing. £17.95 for a plate of bitter salad leaves topped with charred (burnt and bitter) halloumi and a very small amount of over-ripe (black) avocado on the side. There may have been some dressing on this 'salad' but i wasn't able to taste it. For this amount of money i expect much better.

Came for an impromptu meal and I have only good things to say. One order of the trout and quinoa on the specials board was incredible. Massive portions that even the biggest eaters couldn’t finish but really delicious. I had the beef and veg pie with mash and gravy which was also very good. I’m told the burger and halloumi/avocado salad was also amazing. All meals were huge portions. Pricing was average £20-£30 but the blow was softened by the amount of food. Great atmosphere. Good service. Lovely feel and would be incredible on a summers day sitting outside overlooking the incredible scenery. Definitely recommend and would visit again.

It's unfortunate as the venue, staff and surroundings are very good, but the food was really poor. Probably the worst burger we have had. The burger was so dry it just fell apart, no moisture in it at all. The chips were "flexible" not crisp. It came very quickly so seems like it was just reheated rather than cooked? Maybe this is just a one off, as previous reviews have complimented the food. Food substandard and not the cheapest so sadly wont be returning, which is a shame as it initially showed much promise.

I loved this place, been here many times, we just stayed at the sister pub and found it wonderful. This time we were in our campervan and had friends with us. The evening meal became a nightmare for us when my gammon steak arrived it was very tough and burnt on the edge. I told the waitress and she apologised and took it away. My husband ordered the same, his was wonderful and juciey. We heard a commotion coming from the kitchen and a few minutes later my meal arrived. It was the same peice of gammon as before but I think that they washed it and turned it over to the less black side and placed a fried egg over the place that I had cut a peice from it !! The manager then became very rude and said that we had been swearing at her and it was a fresh steak. When we disagreed with her she orderd us out. We spent the night in a lay by. Wonderful

The Cross Foxes is located between Dolgellau and Dinas Mawddwy (A470) at the junction with the Machynlleth road (A487) in North Wales. It has become an iconic rendezvous for visitors and outdoor enthusiasts offering rooms, food and drink. There is an outdoor veranda for good weather and a spacious dining room that can be booked for groups. It is a very good place for a break when visiting Snowdonia from the South. only went for food - starters and the main was nice and was worth the money. However the dessert ruined it all. They had a special on the board of 'chocolate fudge cake for £7.95. I asked if I could have two of those to takeaway. I waited 15 minutes at least to be given the worst slice of cakes I've ever seen and the most stale cake you could ever eat. It didn't come with custard, ice cream or cream, yet all the other dessert that are on the menu and are the same price come with this. It seemed as thought they had cut the last tiny slice in half, it would have appreciated it more if she had told me they had sold out. I questioned it and the woman said it was due to the price they are getting the cake, which isn't my fault, if they have to sell something in this state at such a high price to maintain profit, they shouldnt be selling it in the first place.

This restaurant was recommended by our BnB host so we had high expectations. I ordered the brocoli soup and it tasted awful. I told the waiter however they told me that "many" people had the same soup that day and no one else complained so I would have to order and pay for a new dish. If everyone had the same soup that day I imagine the soup was delivered in a large barrel and they've just microwaved it. So I had to pay for awful soup plus another replacement dish.. pretty poor and rude service too. Wouldn't recommend.

Ordered a "spinach and broccoli soup" that tasted exactly like a katsu curry, which they also serve as another dish. When we raised a complaint, they refused to acknowledge the mistake or offer to remove it from the bill. And had the audacity to add a service charge. Maybe you'll get what you ordered, or maybe it will be a surprise! Good luck, because you'll get what you're given.

Have just had a meal here tonight and the rudeness of the bar lady (who i paid for my meal with) has made me want to write a review straight away. We had 3 meals 1 a gammon which was lovely and 2 chicken katsu curries. I had only eaten a few chips and rice from my meal when the waitress came round to check if meal was okay and from what i had tasted it was. I then tried the chicken which was very dry and the curry sauce which was very thick and un enjoyable so i didnt eat any of it apart from the chips and rice. When asked at the end of the meal if it was okay i did mention the chicken was dry to which the 1st waitress apologised and said she would tell the chef which was fair enough. I wasnt upset at this point or expecting anything off the bill so i went up to the bar and paid for my meal when i was asked by the blonde haired bar lady if it was all okay i told her what i had told the previous waitress. She was very abrupt and rude saying ' well you did get asked whilst eating your meal you should have spoke up and said something' ( as previously said i hadnt tasted the chicken when she came around the 1st time) and basically shrugged it off, her overall behaviour just left me irritated and upset with the experience as she made it feel like it was my fault their chicken was dry! She definitley needed some attitude adjustment.

We were travelling to wales via another route and were looking for a Sunday roast, so having reviewed some pubs via Google on route, we booked a table in the doggie area as we had our 4 legged family member with us. We were showed to our table promptly despite being a little early so that was great. The pub is contemporary, airy and bright which was a welcomed surprise. We ordered a starter each, soup, and tandoori prawns, both were delicious, and followed with two roast beef dinners. WOW OH WOW…. Meat was cooked beautifully, and was not processed stuff, together with mash, Yorkshire and a roaster, aswell as an ample amount of gravy which was great, not stingy as most places are having to ask for a sep gravy boat…. the veg medley came separately, and again the broccoli, cabbage and carrots were fresh, and not overcooked. Overall I can honestly say - without a doubt, it was one of the nicest, tastiest, sunday roasts we have had out- PROPER HOME COOKED, really delicious. We will definitely be returning. Thank you, the experience was fantastic, and the young dark haired waitress was super friendly and accommodating.

Our experience at the cross foxes is mixed. The location of the place is fantastic. Their is plenty of free parking for patrons that is safe and off the road. When we arrived we were greeted on arrival by a very happy, helpful lady that really made us feel welcome! The place is spotlessly clean, very modern and extremely welcoming. The room we were given was beautiful. Again spotless and every amenity we could need. Their were plenty of towels in the bathroom too. A wide selection of tea and coffee and some beautiful homemade biscuits. Well worth the money. It was an old room with exposed beams but with a modern clean twist. However.... After a busy day walking in the mountains we were keen to get showered and take an early night. My wife got out of the shower and luckily changed into her nightmare when a man let himself in to the room! The rooms are key card rooms so whoever let themselves in must of had a master key... presumably a staff member. We thought if it was housekeeping they may have knocked first. This left myself and my wife extremely anxious as to what the man was doing in our room. The next morning at breakfast one of the guests told us it may of been a member of staff that sometimes stops in an empty room, either way it spoilt what was otherwise a lovely stay. With no way of locking the door from inside the room it's a shame to say we probably won't be back
