Cromwell Cottage Northampton in South Northamptonshire

Food was amazing and great value for money. The waitresses were polite and knowledgeable about the menu. Unfortunately same can’t be said for the, what I assume to be, shift leaders. The man that greeted us on arrival looked like he would rather be anywhere else. Jeans hanging down and trainers on (I wouldn’t usually comment on this but the waitresses were in smart uniforms so why can’t the supervisors do the same?)and we waited for some time to place our order. We had to ask to order. What saved the night for us was the quality of the food. It was exceptional.

Always a lovely setting, have come here now and again for years. Didn't enjoy the vegetarian roast, it came with a pie that was mostly filled with spinach. Following the meal, I filled in the questionnaire for the restaurant and they emailed me to say that the pie is not made on site and that my comments would be passed on. On reflection, I will not go here again which is a shame as so much of what they do is lovely. For example, my mum enjoyed her roast beef. I was surprised that the food I had was not made on site, especially considering the price and also my previous experiences of the restaurant.

Service, ambiance great, food, spectacular . Lunch, squid starter, steak sandwich with fries and gravy to die foe just wish I lived nearby.

2nd visit after enjoying our first immensely. Mostly great but was just disappointed to find lots of bits of shell in my seafood linguini. The response from the waitress was 'Ok, no probs' as if I was apologising..... Shame, as it let this otherwise good place down.

Very cosy atmosphere, easy to lose track of time here! A nice selection of food, the highlight for me being the martini Eton mess, which was very tasty and full of flavour. 22/10/2024 Update: Today was the first time I've been here since the refurb. The place still has the same feeling of cosiness as it had before, and all of the food was great yet again! Huge thank you to Harvey, Sabby and Jess for looking after us today, ever so polite and friendly.

Lovely place and great food, just a little slow serving although they were busy, but would go again.

Food took a really long time to arrive, not great with 4 ravenous children. Adults food was great, childrens burger wasn't great, really dry, hard bun

Extremely pleasant evening here tonight. Team were great - polite and chatty but not too overly friendly, very professional. Food was also excellent. I had the sea bass and my friend had a pizza. Will definitely be returning in the future.

Visited the Cromwell this evening for a pint and I have to say ill certainly be returning in the future. Great atmosphere thanks to a DJ. The service was quick and efficient. 10/10 would highly recommend a visit.

I visited on a saturday, it was busy but the standard and efficiency of food and drinks was 10/10. Tom looked after me and and my boyfriend really well and gave top service. Definitely will return!

Had roast beef. Supposed to be roast rib. It was clearly from a roasting joint was very fatty. Gravy tasted nice but was like water. Potatoes mediocre. Veg tasteless . All in all very over priced. Toilets not good either, cobwebs everywhere and just generally grubby.

Returning to an old favorite, pleased to say it is still excellent , but menu is limited for veggies

Food was very good staff were excellent helpful and gave great customer service, nothing was too much trouble. Had a great meal and our Swedish guests were impressed. Thank you.

Always love going to the Cromwell Cottage for food, ever since I was a kid with my parents. The food is always great, lovely pub/restaurant style and great service. Our server Holly was lovely and attentive and was so friendly to our 4 year old daughter too. Great Sunday lunch :)

We booked for my son’s birthday, and no problems .Decor was loverly and staff really nice. When ordering Maddie the waitress was excellent .The food was really good and we enjoyed the day.We were impressed by the restaurant and will return. One issue we had was the sweet was a little expensive for size . But would still recommend and my son loved the day .

Found this place on Google maps while looking for vegan places to eat. Wow, this place is incredible, staff exta nice food was to die for. Very busy on the Sunday I visited but was able to sit in the more relaxing bar area. Great Vegan food.

Took the family for Sunday lunch at the Cromwell. Was great as my daughter didn’t have to have a Sunday roast. I had the trio of meat and my partner had the duo. Holly was our waitress and her service was amazing. Food was very good as always.

Good food with a comprehensive menu. Waitress Holly was very good and looked after our table. A busy place and booking is recommended if you want a table.

My wife and I went for a meal at Cromwell Cottage. We were surprised how busy it was, Our server Louise explained they had an exceptionally large party in that they didn't usually cater for, and apologised throughout the night for the slower than usual service. On the contrary, we actually thought the service provided by Louise and her colleagues was excellent. The restaurant and atmosphere, although busy, was lively and buzzing but not overcrowded. The food from start to finish was excellent, we chose the £100 set menu which covered 3 courses and a bottle of wine, we both had sticky chicken to start, then pork belly and also sea bass,for dessert we both had chocolate bomb. All the food portions were plentiful and well presented, food was all really tasty, and set menu very good value for the quality. Louise was warm, friendly and attentive, but we weren't rushed, although clearly busy we didn't have to wait too long for anything, despite Louise apologising she did an excellent job looking after us and we will return. Thank you.

Came for dinner with my family. We had the sausage and mash x2, pizza and pork belly. All of it was amazing! The pub is lovely and the service was excellent. All the staff were really friendly, the food was tasty and came out really quick. We will definitely be returning soon!

We live close to here so visit quite often. Every time we go it’s great, staff are always helpful and food is always good. Nice outside space to enjoy the sun and it’s super dog friendly which is perfect for a mid dog walk stop off!

Do not know. The standard of staffing has improved a lot. Very pleasant and competent now. Pity there never seems to be anyone in charge to welcome

Expensive and despite being popular it didn't live up to our expectations! Our roast beef was well done, we asked for pink and the roast potatoes were hard inside! Lovely atmosphere and friendly staff but the food was unimpressive!

I visited with the family on a busy weekend and the food was excellent, however the service that we received was exceptional we believe that the young lady who served us was called Sabi! Highly recommended for food and drinks! Will definitely be returning again soon

Excellent service, great atmosphere and staff are friendly and professional. Meal was perfect no complaints from table of 4, we are booked up for Christmas Day.

This place has been good in the past, but this time the food was very poor. The camenbert looked and tasted liked it had just been microwaved and for too long, the peppers were late and were cremated, the mushrooms were tasteless, even the olives were lacking. Shame because it's usual good.

We went for my Grandma’s birthday and our server Ava was amazing! Lovely experience and my Grandma throughly enjoyed herself.

£4.60 for a glass of Pepsi! The Peroni I had was not as lively as it should be. If you are charging top prices, then the product must be top notch. The place looked nice, I would still go again as the food menu looked really appealing.

I like the new decor. The service is prompt, friendly and efficient. We both enjoyed our meals (goat's cheese and beetroot starter; fish cakes and celeriac steak main). We were left alone after finishing eating for a good gap before we were offered desserts and after we had finished (I passed on dessert and my friend had the mini brownie). My friend was able to order an oat latte to accompany her dessert. We like meeting here because it's halfway between our two homes (Coventry/Silsoe) and, although it's quite a large pub, it's got a nice atmosphere and a varied menu, which includes both vegetarian and vegan options. Pleased to be back after the refurb. We will visit again, I'm sure.

This is possibly the best pub in Northamptonshire! Very good food and an amazing atmosphere. I would highly recommend it.

Wow what a treat! This was my first time here at the Cromwell Cottage and they did not disappoint. The Cromwell is charming with lovely aesthetics all throughout the restaurant. Ava our server was very well knowledge in her food recommendations as well as pleasant conversation with my friend and I. If you're near the area and want to check out a proper gastropub look no further!

Second time here. This time I had scallops for starter and they was the best I’ve had perfectly cooked and large. The steak was really nice too, well cooked with a chargrilled taste. My wife enjoyed her food too. She said the cocktail was really nice. We had the dining experience which is really good value for money. The atmosphere is good and the service is really friendly. They’re very quick with the food but not too quick. We’ll definitely be back, it’s become one of our favourite places for a date night.

What a difference 7mths make! From getting ALL our money back for such a poor meal, we can now say 5* EVERYTHING!!! Four wonderful meals and sweets in refurb'd surroundings, great service from the lovely Ruby, a truly fantastic lunch again!! Well done all!

Two Vegans who love their food...one of us is a Vegan Cook.Totally disappointed with the 'celeriac Steak' meal...with a 4 vegetable side dish of Samphire, Spinach, Broccoli & Green beans....the description far outweighed the reality!!!. The 'Steak' was 3 small bite sized lumps of Celeriac ...a steak is a thick flat piece of a vegetable (or meat)according to Cambridge Dictionary.. . Somewhat misleading.The Spinach was the only vegetable that was eastly to bite into the rest was virtually uncooked.I have to say this was, in 10 years of veganism the worst meal ever!....I suggest you don't offer Vegan options if this is the best you can do!
