Fast friendly service. Food amazing. Best satay I've ever had.

I would not go anywhere else for Chinese food in the area. Always 10/10 food - never been sold a bad dish. Most friendly staff too!

I’m updating my review five years on from the original one which is below. I used to love this place but the prices have increased probably due to inflation which I would understand, but now the portions sizes have also dropped off a cliff. The last time I got the chicken satay they were so skinny they were almost non existent. Bitterly disappointed and won’t use the place again despite having been a regular for over a decade. ***************************** Absolutely pukka Chinese food. Worth a special trip. We always head to Crimson 8 for Chinese food, both to dine in and to take away. The place is tucked away in a very strange little niche next to the worlds most confusing car park with about 6 different parking zones, make sure you get it right! The venue is decorated in red and black in a very Chinese feel. It’s very clean and the service is quick and efficient. The food itself is always exemplary, really well cooked and presented. It’s difficult to say much more than that really as the food speaks for itself. In my opinion it is the perfect Chinese restaurant and I don’t remember eating it anywhere else for years. Get in there!

Had a good meal here. Food is generally quite good. Excellent prawn crackers and good chicken curry. Had a lemon chicken dish which was a bit too sweet but everything else was alright.

We actually got a takeaway and it was fantastic, always great quality food and service. Some of the other reviews are extremely unfair and lack empathy to the current political situation. Please support local businesses!!

The only Chinese restaurant in Stansted Mountfitchet. It must be because if they had any competition they would try a little harder to provide a service. This is an appalling restaurant. I went here a year ago and it has gotten worse. It is one of a very few restaurants in this small town where I can take my children for a meal, however never again. It is cold. Desperately cold. The owners are clearly feeling the bite of the escalation in heating bills as the restaurant is freezing. It is a disgrace that they allow their guests to eat here. I say that but we were the only ones in the restaurant - when we arrived and when we left. The increase in overheads has also affected portion size as my main was so miserable. I would have been better off ordering a takeaway - at least with a takeaway they would have to fill a container. This restaurant also do not send an itemised bill. You just get a bill with a rudimentary breakdown of what you’ve had. Food and drinks. They also have the audacity to charge service charge for eating in their cold unwelcoming restaurant. Given that they’re the only Chinese restaurant in this village, they probably don’t care. I didn’t complain or comment as I was happy to spend time with my children. However to the owners of this restaurant, you managed to extract £75 out of me but you will never do so again and I hope this review serves as a warning to other people in your village to avoid this contemptuous excuse for a restaurant. The food is average but don’t inconvenience yourself by eating in. It’s a disgrace.

Small portions as always, however, the quality has dropped bow aswell. Last time i will be ordering. Approx 9 pounds a dish for a miniscule portion, and the dishes all tasting the same others than starters. Off the list!!

On the advice of a nice taxi driver I went to this restaurant and had a super meal. I had been advised that portions were small so ordered accordingly. Great food, good menu, good staff. Will definitely return next time in the area! Thank you.

Takeaway food poor and small portions

Have always loved the food at Crimson 8, yes portion sizes are considerably smaller for the ridiculous price you are charged. Worst of all for me and my family is it’s always so cold in there, us and one other set of people, (on a Friday evening I might add!!) all had our coats, scarves, etc on for the whole meal, and even the staff had several layers on, it’s just ridiculous and makes being there so unpleasant. Even pre energy price hike it was the same. Despite informing staff who could clearly see we were cold, it makes no difference, still no heat. Used to be a regular place to go for us, but we won’t be going anymore.

Tucked out of the way in a small precinct, but cosy and intimate. A great selection of set menus, plus the usual a la carte, everything authentic Chinese. We visit quite regularly.

Had a lovely dinner at Crimson 8! The ambience was cozy and the owner and staff were super friendly. We felt so welcomed. Our meal began with huge spare ribs. They were succulent and flavourful. The wasabi/garlic prawns were so sweet, fresh and amazing. Enjoyed the burst of wasabi inside. The chicken satay was tender yet crispy on the outside. The satay sauce was lovely but a little more heat would be perfect. Would definitely come back again!

While the food is very ….. ok, it is extremely expensive and the portion sizes are truly ridiculous. You would have thought that if they just read one or two of the reviews they got they would see they are losing customers by the lorry load. No one minds paying good money for good food but they need to read what people are saying. It’s a great shame as a few years back you couldn’t fault the place. If you’re going there make sure you rob and bank first and eat before you go coz you’ll sure as hell be as hungry when you leave!

I picked up a takeaway from here on my way back from MF station for an anniversary treat but we were both really disappointed. The food was cold, tiny portions, no flavour, chewy and oily. We usually order from Tanoshii in Great Dunmow which will continue to do so as it is incomparable. Shame.

Just got home from a meal at crimson 8, we have eaten here over the pat 15 years a few times a year but was shocked how the standards have dropped. We ordered a set meal for 2 and the portions were were very small, ordered 2 Prosecco £9 each, 3 small beers total meal cos £90. Honestly it was really below par, we don’t usually write reviews but feel that we were ripped off this evening and just wanted to let others be aware before falling for this below standard meal.

I visited with my partner before a flight and it was one of the best Chinese meals we have ever had. The food came quickly, tasted amazing and the service was great. The restaurant is lovely. Unfortunately we don’t live close otherwise we would be visiting regularly .. they even made us dishes that are not on the menu as we requested them! Thank you and we will now book all of our flights from Stansted in the future so that we can return!!🤣

Had a takeaway from here a few months back and it tasted good. It would seem a lot has changed in the intervening months. This experience of dining in was very poor indeed. The photo of the interior of the restaurant is not a fair reflection of what we experienced on our visit. The restaurant is jaded looking. Not well kept. Untidy. The restaurant was cold inside. Very cold. A heater on the ceiling was blowing out hot air and the whole atmosphere was a bit unpleasant. The toilets are dirty and not very nice which is a poor reflection of this restaurant. The staff are not friendly. They don’t listen to their customers. The lady that served me didn’t listen to anything I said. One dish I ordered was found to be unavailable but she offered a similar dish. I asked for the menu and she repeated the alternative dish. I asked again for the menu and she offered the alternative meal again so I relented and agreed to the dish on offer. They had no itemized bill just an amount to view and pay. And the food….nearly forgot about the food. It was reasonable but it would need to be ten times better to ever get me to return. No thanks.

Having visited crimson 8 before, the food was good. But since the owners have changed, or staff has changed, the food has gone truly downhill . Small portions of not very good quality food. Generally bland and uninspired, for the cost of what they charge, you pay a premium price for sub par food. Do yourself a favour and don’t bother, try one of the other much better Chinese’s in Stansted.

Really really delicious food, however, the dishes other than the noodles were very small. This is not acceptable, its a shame great taste otherwise.

We ordered for 7 persons and food was inedible. After having poor meals from here several times, we won’t be using Crimson 8 again!!! A shame as the restaurant was very good a few years ago.

We picked up a take away and it was absolutely disgusting. This is the second time. First time we gave them the benefit of the doubt. This evenings take away was an absolute insult, inedible!! Never again!

Great layout and doubtless authentic Chinese, nice staff, swift service well presented. Sadly however, let down big time by miserable size portions and overpriced in the extreme. Due to poor quantity of food picked up a superb takeaway from Lams across the road at a fraction of the price and equally as tasty if not better! However, having said that if you are into Weight-watchers then this is the place to dine, you’ll never put on weight after eating here.😂 Not my cup of noodles at all so won’t be returning any time soon!

Food was very nice and present well, but found the portion sizes small, we paid for a set menu around £23.00 per head, but we was all still hungry at the end of meal, I know I am not alone on this, looking at other reviews, it would not take much to improve portion sizes, especially as that is mainly what everyone is complaining about,

I’m generally a big fan of Crimson 8, but the portion sizes, which were never very large in the first place, are getting smaller and smaller and the prices are going up. The seaweed for example - it’s half the original portion. I really hope that you change the size of your dishes, otherwise I think we’ll have to stop eating there.

Ordered a take away and it was very expensive. The food was cold and came in very small cartons the cartons were only half full. After we had eaten we were all still hungry, so I phoned up to complain. The Manager wasn’t bothered at all offered me a five pounds refund and more or less said like it or lump it kind of attitude. Won’t be going back.

Excellent food and service. ‐--------‐------------ Above was a previous review a year+ old, but crimson has changed owners (or chef, not sure which) since and we are not impressed with the takeaways while lockdown is on. The standard of flavour and quantity has dropped yet price is on the high side. Dropped from 5 stars to 2.

Cold food & rude.Ordered for 2 people so not a mass order. collection within 20mins. Got the food home after a 2 minute drive!!One dish missing so called to see if we could collect and was told we didn’t order it! We did, but we were wrong! Portions are smaller than normal and EVERYTHING was cold, rung and asked if we could have our order made fresh so it was hot. We were told to return the food and a refund would be processed. Upon returning the food it was inspected Carefully! No apology and no offer to recook refund is being processed so assuming it’s was cold like we said! We gave this takeaway another go as this isn’t the 1st time, safe to say we won’t be returning.

I don’t even know where to start on this review, it’s lockdown, it’s January, so I thought I would treat myself and my other half to a Chinese and found this one. We had been decorating all day so I ordered really early at 17:30..... my order arrived at.... 20:20!!!! When it arrived it was tepid at best and the portions were an absolute joke!! Cost me £35 for what?! Half a thing of rice compared to normal take aways, the veg was vile, chicken balls well I couldn’t find the chicken and the lemon chicken?! What chicken?!!! Veggie spring rolls, only 4 tiny ones in a portion and I don’t know where the veg was (see picture) I called up to complain and the lady told me to put it in the microwave and said that’s what it is. No apology. I asked her if there was anything she could do, she told me if I don’t like it don’t order from them again. I am speechless. Utterly SHOCKING. Poor quality food, tiny portions, rude and incredibly expensive for what it is!! DONT ORDER HERE!

As a regular restaurant user (when not in lock down) we thought we’d try the takeaway. Definitely not as good as the restaurant; meal OK but hors d’oeuvres disappointing, the spare ribs not edible, all fat skin and tendon. Delivery service was very good with regular updates from Associated Gets. Just a pity about the food, for the price. We’ll wait till the restaurant re-opens.

Quality over quantity! The best duck pancakes you will have for a long time. At first you will think you haven't got a lot, but once you've tasted it and get to the end of the meal you'll know it was just right. This is a propa meal out, not a two Bob job, they even have the Chinese music playing. Staff are great, good atmosphere. Overall nice meal to get away from the kids.

Just moved to the area and thought the best way to celebrate was ordering a nice meal for 2...... Never again from this place. I'd be embarrassed to serve the amount and the quality of food crimson 8 offers. Don't do it!

Comfortable venue, nice people, good reliable food and fair prices - what’s not to like. We are staunch regulars but suggest more finger-bowls per table are a must and chopstick rests would be a nice addition.

Always a lovely meal here. Generally come here for family birthdays. Food is consistently good and always very attentive staff. Only downside is portion sizes are small and quite pricey. Lovely atmosphere and yummy food.

The smallest portions I’ve ever had. Spent £70 on food for four and we came out hungry. Used to be a regular, but not any more.

We have been regular visitors over the years and its always been a postive experience. However, we visited recently on a Saturday evening and the restaurant had very few customers and I wonder if its because they have changed the size of the portions of the main meals. We were shocked by the small portions we were served and would be very reluctant to visit again.

I am new to Stansted and was excited to try this amazing Chinese restaurant that everyone has told me about and that I also read about. I ordered my first take away last week and I have to say I was very disappointed. I actually called to ask if they have a specific dish before ordering (roast duck Cantonese style with bbq sauce) my favourite dish! The lady told me they can do it but when I got it, it was with hoisin sauce (any one who eats Chinese food should know the difference I expected the restaurant should too!). I also got a call after placing my order to be told they can’t cook me jasmine rice but only egg fried rice; again I’d say that was fundamental for any Chinese restaurant to supply boiled rice??! The only thing that was “normal” was my prawn toast but I didn’t eat the rest because frankly it wasn’t what I ordered! I’m deeply disappointed because I love Chinese food and I hope that maybe this was a one off bad experience but not great for a first :(.

Ordered takeaway for 4 friends 8.00 pm C8 could not prepare order until 9.00 pm Arrived at 9.03 pm forced to wait until 9.55 pm before food ready. 3 other groups waiting similar time. 1 guy arrived to return his order and collect replacement, appeared to have been given wrong order! Our food average quality, warm rather than hot. No explanation given, other than pointing at the kitchen and “Sorry” when order handed over. Charged full price and no discount offered. Will not use C8 again.

We walked from Elsenham to Stansted mountfitchet to work up an appetite, and decided to eat at Crimson 8. We have had takeaways before, and also eaten in, and what we had deduced is that you are better off with the takeaway as the portions served in the restaurant are frankly ridiculous. Mine and my partners mains were no more than 2 to 3 table spoons of food each, and it looked as though a child’s meal had been mistakenly given to us. I’m sorry to say that we won’t be eating in again, as we did feel as though we were short changed on the portion front.

We visited here last evening (Saturday) for dinner, we had not been here before but after reading the reviews, we decided to give it a go.....And we were not disappointed, although we would recommend, checking the maps for the location and parking as its not that easy to find.The staff were really nice and very friendly, and also very helpful, and we were so please that the tables are not on top of each other, you could have a conversation without having to shout !!All the food turned up on time, and all together, it was hot and tasted just wonderful, we had a variation of dishes to try, and were certainly not disappointed with any of them.We do understand others reservations regarding portion sizes, but for us it was just perfect, and we will certainly be back, Thank you.

We had an evening meal here while staying nearby. We had read some of the Trip Advisor comments and some had said that the portion sizes were on the small size. Anyway we thought we would try the food. The restaurant is welcoming and has a good feel. Staff were helpful. The food was cooked quickly and was tasty. Yes portion sizes are on the small size and if you were a big eater or were hungrier then you would need to order more dishes which would increase the price. Prices we found were a little on the high side. Decent menu. Good choice for most people.

For the amount you pay, I don’t think it Is should worth it. The food is delicious, and the restaurant looks nice, but the portions are tiny, and the drinks are extremely expensive. Also, there is only one toilet, which obviously creates queues.

Travelling home from the airport having just arrived back on an evening flight. We gave Google the task of finding us somewhere to eat since the last meal was breakfast. It did a good job, this restaurant was close by and so much better than stopping at the M11 services. We went for a good value set menu which was lovely. The food was tasty with good service and friendly staff. Very likely to come again.

Had a take away from this place a few times. Food tasted good, and priced ok, while you waiting for the food in the take away section they give you a small bowl of prawn crackers, only down side at times is food can take a hour.

We visited on a very busy Saturday evening this very attractive well run Chinese Restaurant that we have visited for several years. The staff were friendly and the service very good through out the two hours we were there. Our food was served piping hot and good quality ingredients were used in all our dishes. The Jasmine tea was made using fresh tea leaves and one of the best I have tasted.

Having reviewed this place twice before, it’s now disappointing to have to say that on a busy night when full, the service suffers greatly and the long interval between courses is unforgivable. One would have thought that they would foresee this problem and suspend their takeaway service at busy times but not so far....

The food itself is delicious and very good however, this restaurant really lets itself down by serving almost laughably small portions. Don’t get me wrong, I am definitely not from the camp of ‘huge portions = good meal’ but this was would make a toddler wonder if it would fill them up! For example the Kung Po Prawns were literally 4 medium-sized prawns in a little pool of sauce. That’s it?! It’s a shame that this is the only eat-in Chinese restaurant in Stansted as it could really do with some competition to buck its ideas up. Not good value for money at all.

Love Crimson 8 its our regular take away haunt but also a good restaurant to eat at too. Really friendly staff alwyas happy to help and very nice food.

We were on our way to the airport and stopped here for dinner. Its a bit difficult to find as hidden down a little snicket, but worth the search. We had the set menu which was really good value for money. All courses were really tasty and we could not fault any dishes. A great find and we would go back if in the area.

I love Chinese food but have been put off in the past by bland stodgy takeaways or gelatinous gloopy sauces. But Crimson 8 was excellent, delicious, good portions, lovely big tiger prawns in my noodles, yummy crunchy lemon chicken with a zesty sauce, moreish prawn crackers and friendly service. We were on our way to the airport and we are not local but if we were this place would be a regular dining spot, it was great.

The food although suite small in portion size was good qualité. But the wait was ridiculous. Had to ask where starters were. One hour 30 mins later the main course arrived. No apology! Will we go again Never!

There are not many good eat in Chinese restaurants any more but this one is excellent. We went there as a party of 4 for NYE and had one of the set menus. The food was excellent and the service very good. We left around 11pm but could have stayed into the new year, we were not rushed at all.

Great food and atmosphere - certainly one of the best restaurant options in the locality. Superb options and everything is fresh cooked, hot and tasty. We asked for several dishes to be extra spicy and they were fantastic. Also reasonably priced wine options. I’d certainly recommend.

Family went here last night, it was busy as you would expect however, they just could not cope with two large tables of twelve. The food when it eventually arrived was cold, the portions were measly, the service was attrocious, seated at just past 6.30pm, left at 10.10pm unbelievable! Tables around us received their food in a timely manner and I noticed four in the kitchen cooking but they just could not cope and cater on a busy night. Was it value for money? no it wasn't, were the staff apologetic? no they were not, would we go again? hell no, would we recommend anyone else to eat here?, only if you live in Stansted Mounfitchet, are a table for two and go mid week when the staff are up to the challenge, otherwise please do not waste your time or money, sadly disappointed with this place, what a rip off!

Not the easiest to find: you either wind through a maze of other outlets, or approach from the rear entrance. Black and red colours, together with Chinese artefacts greet you, together, unfortunately, with a well-worn carpet.

This restaurant is outstanding. My son took a friend there for a meal for her birthday. They did a special table for them. Had laid a happy birthday tablecloth on table , candles and also came out with birthday cake I had taken in there. Sung happy birthday to her. Excellent place.

Sunday evening in Stansted Mountfitchet and dining options are limited but we struck lucky with this excellent restaurant - lovely food with both Chinese and Thai.

This is our local Chinese restaurant we have be coming here for many yrs!!! And that says a lot!!! We have been london and this is up there with the best and my personal favourite. The service and staff are lovely very accommodating friendly and efficient. The food is super tasty and a wide selection to suit everyone. The decor is very evening red and is romantic in the evening. Toilets are very clean and tidy I can't recommend this place enough!!!! O

Came as a party of 8 for a birthday. Service friendly and efficient, food delicious and good value (especially the set menus). Restaurant nicely decorated and has a great atmosphere, brilliant location next to parking and the train station. Will definitely be back.

I have recently moved into the same building as the restaurant and wanted to go there since quite some time. Close to Easter 2017 it finally happened. I went there on a Wednesday evening and I was the first guest to arrive. I chose a Thai soup and Red Thai Curry and i was amazed. One of my favourite dishes is Thai and this meal was certainly one of the best Thai meals I ever had.They accept credit cards but there is no WIFI.The service is very friendly and the price was average. I paid the same visiting other restaurants nearby.
