Creeping thyme what can I say they see you eat with your eyes and my goodness it was beautifully presented and tasted even better. Every course cooked to perfection and yes we managed 3 courses. All local fresh ingredients and Tom and Louis are so friendly and professional absolute delight to dine here. The little bar is beautiful for pre or after dinner drinks or both cocktails are stunning just ask Tom to surprise you with his choice today’s was so good. We cannot think of any other restaurant where we have had better food and we do like to eat out a lot thankyou so much look forward to returning.

Thank you to the Creeping Thyme staff for our family dinner last night. We're from Swindon and currently staying in Devon for a long weekend. My husband found this place on Instagram and we decided to go last night, having seen the photos and menus. He emailed Thursday evening to ask for availability and quickly received a reply. He also asked if they would be willing to turn some bar snacks into a main for our very fussy daughter, as she wouldn't have eaten anything from the dinner menu. Thankfully they said yes. It's not the easiest to get to, if you're using Google Maps; it wanted us to take a road that was blocked off. The lighting around the grounds is also a bit lacking so get your phone torches out! The building, now a business centre that was a military hospital in the First World War, is stunning. It's quite quirky on the inside, still keeping quite an old-fashioned hospital look, which is interesting! The restaurant itself has a little bar to the side which looked good and we were invited by the staff to have a drink first, but, as we were with the kids, we didn't bother. The main dining area is impressive with high ceilings, huge windows and plants and the tables are centred around a beautiful baby grand piano. The menu is small, which isn't a bad thing. It is confusing though, as the menu is different on the website. The complementary appetisers were arrancini, one plate with a lemony sauce, one with a sweet chilli. They went down really well, even with The Fussy Eater! I had the John Dory with crushed new potatoes, chorizo and green beans. It was so nice and the portion was probably about right for most people, I just have a small appetite. For dessert, the peach parfait was really nice. The staff are friendly and attentive and, again, we really appreciated them accommodating our daughter (who also decided she didn't want anything from the dessert menu so asked for salted caramel ice cream, which is listed as a part of a dessert, not a dessert on its own, and they happily obliged, even asking if she'd prefer a cone or a bowl.) We all enjoyed the food and the experience as a whole. Thanks again.

Found creeping thyme on instagram and as we were staying in Exmouth thought we would give it a try. My daughter is a bit fussy so I dropped them a message on instagram and asked if they could do one of the bar snacks as a main and Louis was great and said no issue. From the moment you arrive out side it’s such a great setting to restaurant it’s self. The staff were very friendly and couldn’t have been nicer to talk to and accommodated our daughter very well. The food we had was fantastic and never felt like we were rushed or waiting long between service. 100% worth the visit and when we are staying in Exmouth again we will definitely be booking again. Thank you for a wonderful evening

I read an article on the BBC News website where the owner was quoted. Despite living within reach I hadn’t heard of this place so I read the reviews and booked for that evening. So pleased that I did. We found it a little difficult to find within the Seale Hayne complex - you go through the big arch and it’s at the back to the right. You’ll see the lights on! We had an earlyish booking & were the first to be seated for the evening so I was worried it would be really quiet and lacking in atmosphere but it actually became really busy however the waiting staff seemed to cope well. Attentive without overdoing it! There was a tasty amuse-bouche, delicious starter and wonderful venison which we both ordered. We’d also ordered a side of veg and one of chunky chips. They were good but unnecessary as the venison came with veg so only worth ordering if you have a large appetite. Final note - the photos of the dining room on here don’t do it justice. We’ll definitely be going back regularly.

Have been here twice now in the last 2 weeks. Firstly went for the steak evening & returned yesterday for Sunday lunch. Having looked up restaurants near to us found this online decided to try it as we like fine dining. This place did not disappoint. All food was perfectly cooked & so tasty. On the Thursday night the steaks were so tasty & perfectly cooked with amazing chips. For Sunday lunch we had assumed it would be a choice of roasts but they obviously try to cater for everyone with a range of dishes (one being a roast). We had the croquettes & the pork starter & then both had the roast chicken. They were the best roasties I’ve had in a restaurant ..proper crispy! To finish I had the white choc pannacotta which was delightful & my husband had the gooseberry tart, to which he said was the best dessert he’d had! The decor is also tastefully done & works as a great backdrop to the superb food. Seale Hayne is such a beautiful building so it’s nice it’s being put to good use now it’s not a college. It’s a little hard to find as signs arent particularly clear & it’s along a tight little lane but it’s worth it! It’s the sort of place we want to keep to ourselves so we can always get in! Keep up the fab work! We can’t wait to go back!

Having heard lots of good reports when they were in Bovey but never being able to get a table, we thought we’d try their new location. Having not been up to Seale Hayne before, I wasn’t sure exactly where the restaurant was, but once you drive up to the main building, it was fairly obvious. We were the first table at 7pm and I was slightly worried that we might be the only ones dining! This wasn’t the case and other tables arrived 20mins later. We chose off the nibbles plate, olives and cheese and truffle croquettes which were sensational! They are currently doing a special on 2 ribeye steaks, 2 sides with sauce and a bottle of wine which is what we chose. The steak was sublime, both of us were impressed so we chose a dessert to share. The white chocolate pancetta was impressive and we would definitely recommend to anyone to visit. You won’t be disappointed!

It is not often you find an absolute gem when you are not looking for one… but we have found ours. Creeping Thyme is an affordable, fine dining experience on our doorstep, set in the beautiful Seale Hayne estate just outside Newton Abbott. The venue is picturesque, peaceful and relaxing; the service outstanding and the food is simply superb. The menu is very carefully thought through, and we were glad not to be overwhelmed with far too much choice for a change. This small team deserves the awards that keep coming their way, we need to support this excellent restaurant. Go see for yourself, you will not regret it. This is without doubt the best restaurant in the area by far. Newton Abbot has been crying out for a fine dining restaurant, and now we finally have one! We have eaten at Creeping Thyme 4 times with a variety of groups; twice at their old location in Bovey, and twice at the new location at Seale Hayne, so it's about time I left them a review. We absolutely LOVE it. The chef is extraordinarily talented and the team create a calm, professional and friendly atmosphere. The cooking is consistently excellent and the menu is exciting, modern and innovative. If you haven't discovered this gem yet, then get a date in your diaries - I promise you won't regret it. Really hard to pick a favourite dish, but the Pimms jelly with cucumber sorbet was outstanding...

Second time visiting creeping thyme, the first being in their original Bovey Tracey location, this time at their new premises at Seale Hayne. The new setting is absolutely beautiful; the little bar area being dark and cosy and the restaurant being light and airy and sophisticated, the grand piano being a beautiful addition to the space. The service was super friendly and relaxed, and as we were there for a birthday we were offered a celebratory drink which was very kind and unexpected. The food was absolutely phenomenal, every morsel on every plate being perfectly cooked with amazing flavour, and each dish as a whole was expertly balanced by a very talented chef. I really hope Creeping Thyme thrives in its new location as this place deserves to be booked out weeks in advance. So happy there is finally a nice high end restaurant in the Newton Abbot area and we'll definitely be back.

Four meals ordered. One lamb steak and three burgers were ordered (two venison and one vegitarian). Burgers were bland and expensive at £27.00 each plus service charge. The lamb steak at £30.00 plus service charge was tough to the extent that a knife could barely cut through it and consisted of at least 50% hard uncooked FAT. A complaint about the lamb resulted in an apology from the waitress with the reasoning from the chef that "a rump cut is usually tough" and a bottle of beer was given free of charge as the "chef's way of saying sorry". Apparently no one else has ever complained which I find hard to believe but nevertheless I imagine that a lack of return visits may prove otherwise. The chef !!? chose not to come out of the kitchen to apologize which was clearly not due to the restaurant being too busy. Such a shame as it could of turned out to be a regular haunt in a town needing decent eateries.

Had wanted to go here since it opened, on a whim managed to get a table for two. Overall, it was a great meal, with us both having 3 courses. Each course had lovely little bits and bobs that made the dishes top notch. It is fine dining without the pomp. Quite small portions, especially for the vegetarian cauliflower dish; whilst absolutely lovely did seem a little on the pricey side for the amount of veg on the plate. Regardless, ate every last bit. Others have noted about bread which I wanted to mop my sauce and was offered quite a sweet brioche, really didn't go which was a shame, but a minor winge in what was a lovely experience and highly recommend.

My friend and I made Bovey Tracey as the jumping off point for a week’s holiday in this part of Devon. We were staying at a pub that offered no meals, so we ate out all the time. When we entered Creeping Thyme we received a warm welcome and were seated. The menu choice was interesting and it was obvious that a lot of thought had been invested in order to render the menu choices appealing not only to the eye but also to the taste buds. On the first visit ( we liked the restaurant so much we went a second time ) my friend ordered gurnard ( a type of fish she had not eaten before) which she found very tasty. I had duck and it was amazing. The portion were generous. The standard of cooking, accompaniments and gravy were what you would get in a Michelin starred restaurant. I then finished with dessert (the parfait )and it was delicious. On the second occasion, my friend and I both chose ham hock for a starter ( scrumptious) that friend then followed with the duck.On the earlier occasion Lewis the chef/patron said he would cook me chicken (not on the menu) when I came for the second occasion and he was true to his word. The chicken was superb. I prefer red to white wine and downed a couple of glasses of smooth Merlot. All in all, two very unexpectedly enjoyable dinners at the Creeping Thyme. My friend and I frequent restaurants that serve high quality meals and we are satisfied that Creeping Thyme is up there with the best of them.

Sweet little place - rustic, unpretentious with a warm welcome (especially as we were late - my worst nightmare). We had very nice bottle of wine chosen from a short list and followed eith three courses each. The duck croquettes and mackerel starters were both stunning. The generous portion of lamb was great too. I had the parmesan gnocchi. Not my usual choice but it was very good and an attractive plate. For pudding we went for the chocolate mousse and rhubarb sponge. Again all very nice although I felt the sponge could have been lighter but I am no expert. Update: thank you for the reply but I think you are confused. This review was originally left about a year ago and we’ve only been the once and this is the only review I’ve left. Regards

Small, intimate restaurant, small menu, but what great food. Moorish curry flavoured popcorn nibbles on entry. Excellent wine served by a very attentive but not intrusive waitress (Dawn). We had the whitebait and feta balls for our entree. We followed this with the hake and...

Food was wonderful! Really good to see a restaurant of this standard in Bovey Tracey. My husband and I loved it. The service was excellent as well. Dawn was friendly and attentive without being in your face. Well done Lewis to have the flair and tenacity to open such a fabulous restaurant in uncertain times. We'll be back!! Again and again. Loved it, thank you xxx

Visited with the family recently on a weekend in Bovey Tracey. The town's food offerings seems to be exclusively pub grub so we were pleased to find something a bit more special and so glad we made the effort! It's only a small venue so...

From the friendly welcome by Dawn and the great ambience, Creeping Thyme is a great small restaurant in the heart of Bovey Tracey. So refreshing, firstly, that Dawn was so, so proud of the incredibly talented chef and he certainly didn't let anyone down! The...

I came down for a holiday from Bognor Regis and found this outstanding restaurant where I had a mackerel starter, lamb main and a chocolate desert. All I can say is wow, all three course were amazing. I highly recommended this restaurant to everyone, the experience was one of a kind with outstanding service that topped the experience off

By far the best plate of food I’ve had in Devon for a long time. Friendly welcome, good service and the specials we chose were incredible. The beer garden is small but looks nicely tucked away. From the outside you wouldn’t know it was this good. Part of the charm is the modestly of the people and place. Everything else speaks for itself.

Oh, man, are you kidding me? This place is amazing! Look into the back as they prepare your food and you’ll see the organised chaos which PROVES it’s all cooked fresh. My other half’s been to India and she was immediately taken back with the food: fresh, tasty, decent portions and did I mention tasty? The lady that served us was bloody lovely, asked for our preferred spice level then came out so we could sample it before serving it to us. It was like a taster hug before the real food hug that followed. I basically ordered everything that I could see a photo of and loved every bit of it. Don’t go anywhere else in Trago Mills. Eat here. They close at 16:00, otherwise I’d have been back later in the day.
