This might be the easiest review I've ever weotten! Had large cod and chips on at least 10 occasions over the last year. Food is superb - fish is perfect combo of fresh flaky fish and tasty not too crunchy batter. Chips are consistently perfect. Portions are absolutely huge (1 large cod and a regular chips easily feeds 2 adults) and good value. Quality is absolutely consistent. Spotless venue and efficient staff (its always busy). 100% recommended.

This Fish and chips used to be good. I don’t know what’s happened but the place has gone to the dogs 🐶. Not only has the quality dropped they can’t get a large order right. Service has gone too. What’s happened, Disappointed. Back to Seaspray!

First time I've been there. Free mushy peas was good. Fish and chips portion size was good. But surprisingly bland.

Nice fish & chip shop clean and friendly staff never had a bad customer experience. Prices are a bit on the high end and the chips are not the best but rest of the food there is good.

This tends to be the Shop I use as it’s local, food can be a bit and miss but after using another Shop near my Parents I can honestly say I won’t use this place again. Any Fish and Chip Shop that isn’t busy at 5pm on a Friday tells a story. Chips bland, and along with the Fish soggy, and that is without Vinegar. U need to do do better otherwise u will have no Customer, shame as it’s been here so long.

Firstly, it's Christmas. Staff and customers standing around in silence is awkward. Make it festive! Secondly, £6.50 for a very small tray of chips and kebab meat is astonishingly poor value for money. I live local but won't be back any time soon. Ta ra bab.

Small cod (very questionable amount of cod) & chips not worth £7. Disappointed as used to enjoy going here, but seems to have gone downhill.

A decent, clean looking fish and chip shop with other offerings. Out haddock and cod was very good, if not as fresh as one gets on the coast. Chips clumped together quite a bit and were not from a very tasty potato.

Have been using this chip shop for past 3 years. Lamb donna is very good - dont know where they source the things from, but its full of flavour - the salad is fresh, good pita or brioche bun - recommend. But I've stopped going here to buy fish n chips now. Batter & chips rushed through the friers, no longer crisp, just flaccid and fish batter usually stuck to the paper.

This is my favourite chippy in Solihull. The chips and cod/ haddock is always fresh! I would not go anywhere else. Also the owners are so friendly.

Quality of fish and chips is very good if not the best in the area. Crispy batter not saturated in oil which is great and a refreshing change to others around where it comes dripping in grease. Just be careful if you order fish wrapped in paper, I got home and found all the batter stuck to it which ruined it. Always ask for it in a tray. Prices also getting steep but I guess that’s how it is at the moment.

Always good food, sometimes a bit slow but only when busy. You might struggle with finding parking.

Came here after work for some food, food was great couldn’t fault, only thing was the woman that served us was miserable, never smiled once, didn’t even bother to answer u when u spoke to her, could have just been having a bad day but still not good

Website offers gluten free on a Tuesday evening- family of 4 with 1 coeliac opt to have fish and chips on this information. Arrive at shop and they don’t do gluten free anymore but not updated website . No apology and just rudeness very disappointing normally helpful but won’t be using anymore which is a shame - coeliacs beware don’t offer gluten free anymore. Customer service and a smile go a long way !

Really gone downhill, chips recooked thick in old oil, made me feel really sick , and prices gone through the roof. Very disappointing

Average fish and chips, cod roe was really poor, oily squished and looked inedible.. didnt look appetising at all. Will have to seriously think about choosing to eat from here again. Very disappointed.

this was my very first time at this chippy. OMG I ordered two large fish and chips and a medium fish and chips. This was meant to be for 3 people, but could easily feed more. The fish was lovely, fresh, crispy and not dry and the chips were to die for. Watch the opening and close times. Will be going again 👍🏽

Just had a medium donner meat and chips twice, it was it shocking the amount of donner meat I got in mine considering the price, my daughter also had the same she had slightly more, so the two meals wasnt even in proportion, very disappointed this chip shop is usually okay !

Just been got home the chips have alot of gravel in never had this before from there. I felt really rushed by the lady on the till not friendly at all. Have they been taken over by someone else recently shop was empty.

not open at time's when thay say they are open Sunday on website said open put not tonight said open until 930 got there at 9.10 closed mopping up ended up in Chinese takeaway next door 😢 what a disaster never again

Nice gluten free battered fish on Wednesdays.

Food was delicious however that's not the point. I've just paid 6 something pound and couldn't even get a smile or sod all. Sort your attitudes out. Won't go there again wish I had threw it back at her now. Doesn't deserve a job lol

Have just visited Cranmore Fish Bar and will never go there again. Chaos queuing with people just standing around in no order whatsoever and being served in what appeared to be a random order. Only order a portion of chips which was a shocking £2.80. Once my order had been wrapped, the rude female member of staff simply held out her arm in my direction holding my wrapped chips with no eye contact or spoken word to me and assumed I knew this portion was for me even though there were other customers still in there that had arrived before me. Before I’d taken the order from her, she was asking another customer what they wanted. Simply rude service. The chips are very greasy and oily in flavour. My suggestion is to travel a little further down the A34 to Hockley Heath and get better chips and a far more professional and polite service from Nelsons where the chips are constantly great and flavoursome and for a similar price.

Click and collect service is such an easy process, food was fresh, batter was light and crunchy, the way it should be, chips were fresh and tasty too! A must try are the chicken nuggets, wasn't expecting them to be as good, such a nice crispy batter on them and was surprised it was actual pieces of chicken as opposed to minced chicken like most places do chicken nuggets! I also asked for crispy bits in the notes and expected a few mixed in with the chips maybe but they gave me a whole different bag with some in! Great service, great value and really great food! This will definitely be our new chippy! Thanks guys!

Visited this fish and chip bar at about 7pm yesterday. There were two people ahead of me. I was served very efficiently and I felt. The food however was very disappointing. Both the fish and chips were greasy particularly the chips seemed to have been sitting in grease for rather a long time. I'm no expert in this field as I only frequent such bars about twice a year but for what was a 'treat' to myself turned out to be a very disappointing greasy mess. I remember, in the past, when my family were younger and we had fish and chips fairly regularly you could see the fish and chips before they were wrapped up, had I been able to do this I would have asked for my money back. Another thought: could it be something to do with the fact that I'm not a 'regular' so I was served the leftovers?? Just a thought. Overall a very disappointing meal.

We've been going here for many years and honestly it's the best chippy around - The prices have gone up quite a lot over the past couple of years but the food is very good and as proof, it's always very busy! The online ordering & collection system is also very efficient.

Went to get food at 8:20pm on a Sunday when the closing time says 9pm and it was already shut!

Waited for large cod and chips and curry sauce. A long wait and people after me came and went. My guess is that large cod takes longer. But it was over cooked and the fish stuck to the batter. Chips below par tail end.

Excellent all round, the cocktail menu feels locally based, the oysters are to die for, the oyster skewers are worth the hype. The fish and chips are described as "proper", but the chips aren't really chippie-like (they're more crispy/fried than an English chippy, not that that's a bad thing at all, they just aren't the same thing). Really everything is delicious and you should go. Don't sleep on the things that sound a little more boring!!

Staff are friendly and the service very quick. Can get busy at times but wait times are normally minimal. The food is fresh, with a lot of the items cooked to order. This can increase wait time over other fish and chip shops but the quality is worth the wait.

Just moved to the area great chippy and service and fish is great and chips are great only disappointment fish batter sticking to wrapper prefer it on the fish .

First came here to try a different chippy. The fish & chips is easily the best I've had for a very long time. The large is massive but the batter is spot on not too soft, not too crispy. The fish is lovely too. Love that you get the option of mushy peas, curry sauce etc as part of your order. At £9/£10 for a large it's a bit more than you would usually pay but 100% worth it.

Discovered this chippy recently by a recommendation. Have used it once a week for a month, and have always been impressed with the quality of the food. I always have a donner kebab with salad and jalapenos. It is delicious. My mate has the fish and chips, which he says is likewise excellent. You can also have a complimentary curry sauce or mushy peas. Everybody like a feebee. The food is always cooked fresh, and the staff members, Jen and Karen, are cheerful and friendly. Unlike the previous chip shop we have used, this one takes cards which makes paying much more convenient. I would definitely recommend this chip shop, best in the area.

Usually great but you seem to have changed the chicken meat recipe sat 23 oct. Unhappy house.

This used to be the best fish & chips ever, but lately they’ve been a bit off , had it tonight & the chips have changed to skinny little things and were pale & soggy 😣disappointed

I have used Cranmore occasionally for years. Yesterday I bought a portion of chips to take home. In the entire portion there were maybe 10 real chips ! The rest were what I would call dogs ends & left overs. This was very disappointing & came as a surprise. Must do better.

I was so disappointed on Saturday evening. We were looking forward to a lovely fish supper as everything from here is usually delicious. Sadly, the cod was dreadful. Dry and chewy and very very stale. We threw it away and settled for the chips which were fine. We normally have our fish supper from here on a Friday and have never had a bad meal. I don’t think we will risk it again on a Saturday.

Used to be the best fish and chips in shirley by far. Sadly gone downhill. Last 2 times fish has halved the size and not cooked well either.

arrived,the shop quiet....made an order.....paid for order......only to get home,one peice of fish was missing,a 2nd bag of chips in its place.....its not rocket science to get an order right......the chips were rotten,brown an cold.....the staff no doubt have attention span problems understanding an order.....wont use again.AVOID.🙄

I always go to Cranmore fish bar and rate the staff & food very highly. This time though I was very disappointed. I pre-ordered as I normally do & ordered a large haddock for me & my partner to share. What we got was definitely not a large haddock. If I had seen it being dished up I would have asked for another one.

I've recently returned to UK, having lived in Asia & Dubai for some 17 years. I'm lucky enough to have enjoyed some stunning food along the road. This is a good chip shop. I sometimes come at lunch with a workmate from Perry Barr, he knows the area and won't go anywhere else (It's as popular during lunchtime amongst the local workforce, as it is in the evening). My parents also moved over to this chippy some years ago. I think it's excellent too, as does my own family, who ask that I drop in here at least once every couple of weeks. Fish batter is light, fluffy & as tasty as the cod inside. Lovely chips with an ideal crisp to potato ratio. (if that makes any sense!) We share a chicken & lamb donna, a large fish & chips & sauces - feeds our family of 4 with a few chips to spare & its all good! Thats about 20 quid. A fiver a head for an interesting dinner table! Even after coming from Asia, I say thats good value. ALL the staff are warm & friendly. Nice to see smiles - every time. I'd say the previous reviewer is naturally negative from looking at their other reviews - I'd even question if they've reviewed the right chippy. This is our chippy & we've really no reason to look else where.

Waited so long after lockdown, today was going to be a special day, our first fish and chips after waiting so long for the 2nd of Dec to arrive. Have never been so disappointed to find when got home we were expected to eat uncooked batter that was raw inside as if you were eating flour and water that was uncooked along with inedible chips that appeared to have been cooked many times and were all oil sodden. Can never return based on our happy memories which are now destroyed.

Recently had fish and chips from here for the first time and threw the whole piece of cod in the bin due to it being undercooked and sloppy/wet. For the price they charge this is unacceptable and something you'd expect from a cheap chip shop. Won't be returning and would suggest avoiding at all costs unless you like your cod grey in colour and undercooked.

Visited the shop today and noticed that people were being allowed in without face coverings. It is the Management’s responsibility to ensure the safety of their customers. Shame as the food was as good as ever.

Due to pandemic this was the first time since Feb 2020 we have the lovely cod from here. One of the major things we have missed during this period. Service was excellent and quite fast considering the safety measures. Our first food outing so glad we did.

Undoubtedly the best fish and chips in the area but have had to go elsewhere as they aren't doing the small fish and chips now which were just the right amount for me.

Cranmore fish bar is spotlessly clean and the staff friendly , helpful and efficient. The fish and chips are exceptional a real treat!!!!
