Had a roast here, and it was really busy, so service was a little slow, but that's to be expected when somewhere is so busy 😊. Bar service was really slow though and there were only 2 of us at the bar. Roast was good, the gravy is delicious, but potatoes were really overcooked and hard to cut into. The pork belly was really good. They require a ten pound deposit per head before going so make sure you turn up! I saw lots of board games on the side which is cool and the place seemed child friendly.

Listed as wheelchair accessible, with wheelchair accessible toilets (*as recorded on the overview on Google Maps) - but I found there was a small step up at the pub doorways. (*Apparently they do have a ramp) I asked a lady serving if the toilets were wheelchair accessible, but she had no idea. I tried to get into the Gents, but there was a second door inside not wide enough for my wheelchair. The pub also had only one ale, the rest of the beers were lagers. Not impressed.

Popped in for some loaded fries with my son & they were as good a remember last time. Portion size had slimmed down & the toppings were needed for an extra £5 for chilli beef so make it a sharing portion for Dad & child, but the end product was tasty. Note of caution though - Chilli beef is green chillies type of chilli & has a kick too much for a mini me. Although the glass of free milk didn't go unnoticed.

This was my first visit and was a group Christmas dinner. My main course was 'salmon poached in a dill and caper broth served with parsnip rosti, whipped feta and a salsa verde'. The salmon was dry as though baked without any hint of dill or caper. The whipped feta was a few feta crumbs. The parsnip rosti was greasy and overcooked (I was concerned that I would break my teeth). There was about half a teaspoon of salsa but an unexpected pile of red cabbage. The whole meal was tepid and bland. The Christmas crumble was sharp (I frequently cook fruit without using sugar but I found this difficult to eat). I couldn't taste any Baileys in the Bailey's custard. The service was dreadful (not enough staff). We could not eat at the same time as some dishes were brought out a long time before others. The general ambience was not pleasant. People could not converse due to the noise levels.

This is are usual go to place for a Sunday roast! Have been many many times! But today was awful. The server unfortunately was rude! Had to ask for menu’s (they forgot to give) waited around 20+ mins to take our order! Wasn’t very busy I appreciate if they’re busy doing multiple tasks but an acknowledgement to say I’ll be with you soon never hurt nobody. the food wasn’t like usual, the cauliflower cheese was more like water cheese didn’t bother cook it in the oven like usual. We were swamped with flies everywhere which put us off even more having to fight flies off our plate. The lady did make a remark about the flies but the minute I tried to say something she walked off. We promptly gave up eating and went to the bar to pay for our food as we wasn’t enjoying the standards you usually have. Think your servers need some training on politeness I don’t have high standards and would have loved to have mentioned issues but that would have been waste my time with someone that clearly isn’t interested in customers. Don’t think I would return again which is a shame as used to be 10/10 but wouldn’t even give it a 1/10.

Warm cosy atmophere. In the summer is also very popular. Plenty of outside seating great selection of music playing in background creating a nice ambience reminiscent of late 1980's 1990's wine bars and pubs. They do food also which we haven't yet tried but from what other diners had ordered, looked appetizing and tasty. They were fully booked when we went but allowed us to drink at the bar as all tables were taken. Very mixed age group, polite staff, try it for youself. 👍

I visited tonight with my partner and her children. As has happened more than once before, a member of staff approached us at the bar without a greeting, let alone a smile. I said hi and "how are you" to which I received a "fine" accompanied by a blank absent glaze. I ordered drinks. On returning to our table I mentioned this to my partner who confirmed we had always struggled with service in this pub. Anyway, we tried to make the most of the evening, spending around £75 through our 2 hour visit. We ordered the bar food deal, 4 small plates for £25. We just wanted snacks so decided to go for 2x mulled wine pigs in blankets and 2 x mini camembert all at £8 each. £32 of food for £25 seemed a bargain. It was not. What turned up was 8 chipolates in total, and two small camembert that had been melted but little more plus 8 small slices of cut dry ciabatta. I thought is was a joke but as it was Christmas decided to let it pass. We did however ask for more bread whilst ordering another round of drinks. When I realised another four tiny pieces of ciabatta had been put on the bill at £3.50 I lost my willing to play nice. This is no longer a workable pub. It's a money grab, end of career, part time hobby, at best, or a badly run shameful scam of a place at worst. The staff clearly dont want to be here and don't like the customers, and definitely don't have any training or service ability. On complaining, the assistant manager was lost in void of skillset, unable to appease a disappointed customer, and had no idea how to address our concerns. I'm happy to say she agreed we had been treated unfairly and that we had a right to feel somewhat robbed, which we almost had been. She refunded the cost of the bread, later returning to offer the kids ice cream, which they declined, having picked up on our discontented mood. I like to support local businesses, but not when they don't care and seek to manipulate and cash cow the general public. If you want to know why so many pubs are closing in the UK this is a great example of apathy and lack of passion, care or repect for the customer. Pubs like this should fail. Especially when they do not even demand their staff warmly greet and engage with customers. Shame on you Cow and Oak and whomever is responsible for the broken culture in your place of business. Obviously we won't be returning again. Off to the Egremont over the road from here on.

I feel sad putting a 3/5 because the Oak and Oak is fab - it's a beautiful, well looked after pub but the overall experience of eating there when seated out back was massively lacking. Sitting in one of the heated booths outside is a perfectly wonderful space. I've enjoyed a couple of evenings out back with drinks and nibbles but today, the back felt negligected by staff as they only operate table service inside. This led to a lengthy time at the bar placing an order for a seemingly simple order - a roast and something from the kids menu. The food came very quickly and was utterly divine upon arrival. However, again, this almost neglected sense for those sitting outside kicked - cutlery arriving after the meal, a long time getting condiments all leave a bit of a meh feeling given you can't dig in and end up feeling like you are watching food grow cold. When you are paying up to £17.00 for a plate, it's not a happy feeling. I would suggest at least taking food orders from the tables outside to ensure cutlery and the basics are covered, and I think it would have improved the overall experience massively. But other than that, great food and great pub.

Five of us just had lunch and drinks here, and it was a very good experience. Cam the chef juggled five very different meals, while Barney juggled drinks, orders, and chat with us in a competent and charming fashion. (Note to Supplies: cocktail sticks for the tasty olives, please!) Our meals were pulled pork burrito, battered cod and chips, Caesar salad with chicken, kid-size pasta, and tuna steak with sweet potato. Every dish was fully eaten, fully enjoyed, and my tuna was accompanied by possibly the tastiest tapenade ever - without damaging the light taste of the tuna. Very, very reasonable prices, delicious food, good service. We've been many times in the past, but a menu revamp has introduced a lot more lightness, but with super tastiness. We'll be back!

Fab pub great drinks selection and fab outside and inside space. There was a Latin style band playing on our visit and folk were up dancing and really enjoying themselves.
