FILM SCREENING AT THE COURTHOUSE HOTEL I organised a film screening at The Courthouse Hotel cinema for a group of short films. The cinema is a bit bigger than most screening rooms in central London with 100 seats. The picture and sound quality are excellent and the staff were extremely helpful. There's a bar next to the cinema and lots of space for guests to hang out before and after. Highly recommended as a venue for cinema screenings!

Visited the Courthouse for afternoon tea with my wife...didn't stay, so cannot review the rooms. The service was great, attentive and friendly. Situated right opposite Carnaby Street, so ideal if you wanna take in a few shops. The champagne afternoon tea was delicious and offered plenty of choice. I would definitely recommend it to all.

Booked this hotel, dropped off bags, returned later in the afternoon to be told that there had been a leak on our floor and maintenance hadnt fixed it (query that excuse), but staff did organise an better alternative and a taxi there which took just as long as walking there. I just felt that we could have had a call sometime earlier in the afternoon to let us know about the problem so we could have allowed more time for the move to the alternative hotel, as had theatre reservations.

1. Star hotel classification is a scam: there is no open ramp to pull the luggage and no door man or bell service. The hotel doesnt have car park to load and unload and if there are cars parked at the street then you park way ahead and carry your luggage all the way. Then lift heavy luggage on the stairs and figure your way out. This is not a star hotel experience. 2. Facilities: pool and spa are in basement with no staff and signage to actuallynuse these facilities. Most of the time it was locked during my stay at holidays. The hotel advertises massages and spa and they dont have staff. 3. Restaurant is decent. No complaints and not a wow 4. Concierge: friendly. Let me checkin way early and the concierge guy who checked me in offered to have my luggage brought up. This was good gesture by that staff member and not as a facility by a star hotel as advertised online. 5: rooms dont have views at all. They fave walls . The top floor has some sky view and the back alleys of other buildings and metal staircases of fire exit. The rooms are very noisy. The sky bar/( terrace bar of the hotel )music is heard extremely loud. Specially when one is jetlagged, this music goes on for 11.00. I got migraines. Would not recommend at all. The rooms are clean with no minibar. Just very old set up and no noise proofing. This hotels require some upgrade for sure considering that they are charging market rate.

Staff in the Indian restaurant side are amazing. Especially Ramadan who took the time to show us around pointing out interesting facts about what is an amazingly interesting building. Sadly the rest of the staff on reception (except Vasille) are utterly shocking. Argumentative, rude and condescending, led by a so called manager called Emma. Room was acceptable, Cinema was good, afternoon tea we enjoyed but only because the team in there were brilliant. Location is brilliant and the actual history of the building is interesting but for the love of God please get front line staff who actually understand what hospitality means. Probably would never stay again. There are far better hotels than this!

I am giving this hotel a 1 star review because my husband and I were just profiled by a staff member and this completely unacceptable. I came to this hotel on a business trip with my husband who is in senior management at Sony PlayStation. We are from the US and have been traveling, so we are dressed casually in sneakers and caps. We were on our way down to check out the pool and noticed an older Caucasian male staff member with greying hair and facial hair staring oddly at us. As we went down the stairs we saw him hurrying down after us. He began calling out and asking me where I was going. My husband was a little bit ahead of me so the staff member may not have known we were together. He then asked me, “Can I help you?” In a very accusatory tone. Normally this fairly benign question wouldn’t be a problem. However, the tone in which is asked it made it obvious that this staff member was suspicious of us. I immediately thought we had mistakenly gone to a restricted area and began explaining that my husband and I are guests and were trying to find the pool. Another staff member who was much friendlier starting giving us directions. This person interrupted the other staff member and proceeded to “escort” us us to the pool without so much as a smile or a friendly word. When we came out, he was still there. Although the location is excellent, the hotel decor is outdated/somewhat shabby. We have never stayed in this hotel before so I don’t know what the other rooms look like. However, the room we were given is small, the carpet is old, there is no closet and there are only a few shelves to put your clothes in—nowhere to hang anything. The furniture looks cheap and unfashionable. We would be able to overlook all of this had this presumptuous staff member not profiled us as people who didn’t belong here and who he thought looked “suspicious” enough to follow and question. This is completely unacceptable! You can never tell who a person is based solely on appearances. A person who you may think looks shabby may be a millionaire or VP of a Fortune 500 company. This is why everyone should be treated with respect no matter what they look like to you. When I called the concierge to complain, the person who picked up seemed to know exactly who I was referring to and simply apologized and rushed me off the phone. Sony PS has recently begun encouraging employees to stay at this hotel because it is literally steps away from their London Soho office. My husband will be reporting this incident to the appropriate department and requesting that Sony no longer refer employees to this hotel. It is not a very nice hotel and the fact that they employ staff who engage in racial and/or classist profiling (I am Black and my husband is Caucasian) makes it an establishment that should not be endorsed by a reputable organization such as Sony Interactive Entertainment.

Not a 5* hotel as it claims. However, still a nice hotel, just set your expectations. Rooms are modern (ish) but could do with some maintenance. As an example our shower had settings of burning or scorched with nothing in between, and only has the option of a rainfall head with only a handheld shower head for those that don’t want to get their hair wet. In addition on TV had one channel, there might have been more but the remote refused to let us choose. The general atmosphere was odd, too quiet… and wow, they need to rethink their bar prices, over £10 for a single spirits.

I stayed at the Courthouse Hotel in SOHO for a week. Overall the room was a good size and was comfortable enough, but the bathroom was outdated, and the tiles surrounding the bathtub were cracked and chipped. The shower water pressure was low and the water temperature would fluctuate, which was a little annoying, but manageable. The hotel staff were all very friendly and gracious to me. I had an issue getting my TV to work in the room, and Eric was sent to solve the issue. He was very nice and polite, and got my TV up and running. I happened to run into him in the lobby a few times during my stay and he asked me if I was enjoying my stay and making sure that I was comfortable. The location is perfect! If you are looking for a central location that is right in the middle of all the buzz in London, SOHO is the location to be in. The Courthouse Hotel is directly across from Carnaby Street in SOHO, just feet away from cute boutique shops and ample dining options, as well as mere steps away from Oxford Circus and Regent Street. The London Underground is easily accessible from this hotel, making it easy to get around to all the other areas of the city and beyond. While the hotel itself could use a few updates, the friendly staff and the prime location make it worth the visit!

Friend and I had afternoon tea at this location. Unfortunately the cakes and sandwiches came up very short. We weren't given the full choice of sandwiches available in the package. The sandwiches themselves had very little filling to bread ratio. The scones were doughy and heavy. The little cakes were very disappointing. The "strawberry tart" was actually watermelon! The "summer fruit" cake had a small fruit "stain" on one cake and nothing on the other. The best things were the Twining tea served in a standard tea pot and the glass of champagne. We would definitely not recommend this afternoon tea experience at this location.

This is the worst hotel I've ever stayed in. We stayed here because it was convenient after seeing a show at the London Palladium. Breakfast was substandard. I'd be prepared to walk further and stay somewhere nicer next time.

Asked from our seats for some tap water with ice and she shouted back that she is closing the bar at 10pm, which was fine as we still had 20 minutes. We did not receive what was advertised on the menu, were served less than stated on the menu. Will say the scones were delicious, but served without the jam, had to wait to catch the attention of a member of staff. finally we asked for our tea and to our amazement, we were served a cup of tea not a pot and were not asked what type of tea we wanted . I asked for the manager to make a complaint only to be ignored by the staff, I finally managed to speak to Manager, who explained how bad she felt and this was not normal service and that the food and beverage manager would be interested in hearing of the complaint and would contact me to discuss the matter, true to form of the Courthouse, Shoreditch, no phone call has been received to date.

These "igloos" are basically plastic greenhouses smelling of smoke (they sell shiska) on a not very appealing terrace with plastic plants and selling expensive drinks (£50 a bottle of Malbec!). I was apprehensive having read some of the reviews regarding the afternoon teas, but I have to say that it was wholly acceptable and more to the point tasty-Ok, it's not the Ritz, but it doesn't charge Ritz prices. I think for the price of the tea, it was wholly reasonably priced. I would agree with some reviewers that it is unfortunate that you have afternoon tea in what is an Indian Restaurant. It would be far better to have a dedicated area within the main body of the hotel for these occasions. The staff were very friendly and attentive.

We agreed to wait at the bar and order a bottle of champagne, they then said they could get us a table if we waited 5 minutes...20 minutes later we appeared to still be waiting for it and the bottle! There were members of staff sat behind the bar drinking and when we asked the difference between two champagnes we were told 'one is sh*t because its cheap and the other one is better because it is more expensive' Shocking! It wasn't that busy, but the staff clearly had no idea on any steps of service and were all over the place. I would honestly say avoid at all costs, there are better roof terraces nearby where you will be served in a timely manner!

I booked this hotel as part of a surprise for my partner's 50th at the nearby Aldwych Theatre. We received a warm and friendly welcome. We were both pleasantly surprised by large open plan ground far leading to the bar at the rear. Some lovely comfortable sofas to relax on if you wish. The bar has three old cells that have been converted so you can sit in them for a little bit more privacy. Our room was up in the 5th floor and was a large airy room. The room TV came with Sky TV include so was able to catch up on some live sport. The room was very clean. Shortly after we arrived in the room, we were visited by Management who explained room was due for s refurb shortly but we didn't think it looked tired at all. The breakfast was very nice, mainly an help yourself but there was an option to order some things freshly cooked from the kitchen. I must add that during our visit the staff were very helpful and polite at all times, contrary to other reviews recently posted. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend it. Though a little pricey, it is just off Oxford Circus and close to all the theatres so the location is great and worth the little extra.

We were shown through to the restaurant where the afternoon tea was being served. We were the only ones in the restaurant to start with. The menu was explained and our champagne was brought over. I ordered coffee and my partner ordered earl grey and received breakfast tea.

Bought this as a Virgin experience and was impressed by the building and photos in the room. Service was very hit and miss... waited quite a while for the sandwiches to be brought and they were a bit dried out so making them wasn't the reason for the delay. Other people were waiting a long time too and for much of the time we were there, an altercation/discussion was taking place between a diner and the staff which rather spoiled the atmosphere. The staff were happy to bring more tea and were very pleasant if tardy. The food was nicely laid out and scones excellent.

Every Wed is Cheap Eats - meals are only $12 and they are always superb. There is a limited set selection but there is a variety of sauces you can have. It is usually quite busy, so if you like peace and quiet, arrive early. The only negative aspect is the noise - when the dining room is full it is difficult to have a conversation with friends at your table. There is the option of seating outside too.

We went to the Courthouse for an event and were disappointed by the venue. The concierge was sullen, the back of the seats in the bar were stuffed with peanuts etc raising concerns about hygiene and a spilled glass of wine was left uncleared for a considerable time. I like the way they have reflected the history of the place in the decor.

My wife received a voucher for afternoon tea at the Courthouse Hotel for her 60th birthday and was delighted to find that a gluten free option was available.Unfortunately, despite excellent service from waiters Ralph and Alejandro, the food was a disaster! The 'sweet' part of the the tea consisted of two small plastic pots, one containing approximately a tablespoon of chocolate mousse and another the same quantity of mango mousse. There was also two cocktail sticks each with two cubes of melon, one cube of pineapple and half a strawberry. She was served two scones, but the first offering was burnt and not edible, the second lot were very doughy. She has had many excellent gluten free afternoon teas, most considerably cheaper than this one! We would not want anyone else to have such a disappointing treat and so regrettably we would advise anyone requiring a gluten free afternoon tea, not to go to the Courthouse Hotel. We say regrettably because the service was excellent. The waiters did their very best to try and make things better but they can only serve food prepared by the Chef which, unfortunately, was very well below the Gluten Free food that can be purchased in supermarkets. A big thank you to Ralph (his first day) and Alejandro for trying so hard to make a bad situation better.

Went just for one drink prior to meeting friends. Drinks are very pricey and the Rose wine was very cheap tasting. The overall bar area was much like any other hotel, the one thing that makes it slightly different is the 3 cells. You can sit and drink in them and its rather cool although after 10mins or so you do think....what else is going on outside lol .

The bar itself looks really nice but I wouldn't choose to go here again. Getting charged a service charge for the bar staff to simply do their job is ridiculous & not even doing it well - no lime for the coronas but they magically appeared later on, no notes so she handed me a huge amount of change & just shrugged & a smile/apology wouldn't go amiss.

This was part of a Red Letter experience, a Christmas gift from hubby. The hotel is quirky being the former court, they have maintained the cells with interesting photos on the wall. The actual afternoon tea is ok but not jaw dropping. We were staying at a superb hotel the previous night and decided to be careful with our breakfast so we didn't ruin the tea.I would have been very disappointed had we been really hungry, and I would point out that leaf tea should be used instead of tea bags. The scones were quite small, but warmed which was nice, the clotted cream amount was not overly generous, but adequate. A pleasant enough time, but I feel they could be more varied with their menu, perhaps more mini tarts with strawberries and not just kiwi. Just a thought.

We had a pleasant afternoon tea here as part of a Virgin Experiences voucher - the hotel is located conveniently for both Oxford Street and Soho and so there are plenty of things to do around this area. The waiting staff were very good and helpful even though the bar was fairly busy, the afternoon tea was tasty (especially the white chocolate ganache / fondant) however I felt that had you been paying up front for it the price of two afternoon teas and two glasses of champagne is pretty steep even for London prices. The portion size of the afternoon tea was very small for the price and represents poor value for money. This is my only complaint about what was otherwise a very nice afternoon.

We had Virgin vouchers for a birthday afternoon tea last weekend and found it an enjoyable experience. Our waitress Barbara was very pleasant and attentive, explaining what was available, offering refills of tea - and offered to take our photo. The champagne was drinkable, if perhaps more cava standard.Sandwiches on different breads rather than trimmed white slices made a pleasant change, and the scones were delicious if a little small. There was a variety of cakes, again small but tasty.Overall this was a pleasant afternoon meal, not 5* and yes there are better quality afternoon teas in London (we've had them) - but they tend to be at least £20pp dearer.

My husband and I were bought Virgin experience vouchers for Champagne afternoon tea at this hotel as a Christmas present. I absolutely love afternoon tea and have eaten my fair share so I was very excited! However, this was a poor attempt at anything close to the splendour and ceremony of an afternoon tea (especially in a 5* hotel).Firstly, I have to say that the service we received was very good and efficient. The staff were friendly and explained to us how the afternoon tea was set out, as well as checking for allergies they also explained that if there was anything we disliked, they would change it. A great start! However, we were then served our 'champagne'- it didn't taste like champagne at all, more like cava. We opted to have our tea served with our sandwiches and pastries. The tea was lovely and the staff were more than happy to refill our teapot if needed.I was expecting finger sandwiches but we were served rolls (which I found strange, but still ate them. Although I thought humus and roasted veg was an odd choice of filling, as well as cucumber and cottage cheese). Our pastries and scones were served to us on a tiered stand and they looked lovely. The scones were warm and crumbly and I really did enjoy them with a dollop of clotted cream and strawberry jam.The rest of the pastries weren't up to standard at all. They didn't really taste of anything and if I'm being honest they all looked like they were bought in, pre-sliced and just assembled onto a plate. They didn't taste freshly made by the kitchen at all. All in all, this afternoon tea lacked the refinement and ceremony you associate with this British tradition. I have left a review on the Virgin site which they are yet to publish/respond to after 3 days, so I thought I'd post a review on here instead. If anyone is thinking of purchasing vouchers for this experience, DON'T.

Had a champagne afternoon tea bought for my wife and I for Xmas as part of a virgin experience. There's really not a lot positive to say about the whole experience. You get a single glass of the worst tasting champagne I've ever had. The sandwiches are abysmal. They are not even sandwiches but rolls. One of which is a half slice of cheap ham and some mustard, another of cucumber and cottage cheese (I mean really!). The others are vegetable and hummus and smoked salmon and cream cheese. The cakes are all stale and taste horrendous. The shortbread biscuit was so dry, it was literally powder in your mouth. The apricot cake was so stale it was hard and crispy around the side.Even the tea is supplied via tea bags. You'd think that an afternoon tea at a five hotel would at least have loose leaf tea.The worst part was leaving there still hungry as we were expecting food food The only upside was at least the scones (as small as they were) were warm and tasty and we didn't have to pay.I would honestly avoid, even if given a voucher - don't waste your time and tastebuds

As part of a Virgin Experience package, 5 star it certainly isn't in any way, but it was pleasant enough. Most people there were using a coupon, but it was interesting that the couple next to us who were paying full price were given twice as much food and more choice as far as the cakes were concerned. In fairness we had enough though I've never had a cottage cheese roll before, and one of the 2 smoked salmon rolls was dodgy. Service was friendly, tea and coffee top ups were willingly given, so it was fine, but there's plenty better elsewhere

I was given a Virgin Experience gift for a champagne cinema experience and thought what better day to use it than Valentine's Day (also my birthday). We booked our seats and decided to book a restaurant table also to make an evening of it.On arrival at the hotel we were sent to the restaurant (not escorted) where the waiter struggled to understand that we were not on the Valentines deal before pointing to a table. We were given a set menu that didn't resemble the one we had viewed on the website and again had to explain we were not on a deal and wanted the full menu. The waitress was okay but her communication skills were woeful and she stank of body odour. The restaurant itself had no atmosphere and the tables were laid with cheap cutlery (no starter or desert cutlery) and paper napkins. The food was very average; the roast beef was grilled slices off beef, over cooked and a little tough, the roast potatoes were of the pre-packed variety and re-heated in a microwaved with what resembled a miniature Aunt Bessie's Yorkshire pudding to finish it off. My partners steak, despite asking for it medium, was still mooing on the plate alongside some wilting garnish and generic French fries. Pudding was tasty, chocolate fondant, but it was microwaved and was no different to the ones I buy for my stepchildren for £2 from Waitrose - the soup spoon provided to eat it with was also a special choice! When the waitress cleared our plates she did half the job, served some other customers and cleaned some other tables before coming back to finish the job; 'Are you done with this' is perhaps not the best way to address customers!Suffice to say we couldn't be bothered with the cinema experience afterwards we felt a standard had been set and our nostrils were begging for fresh air (yes even the air on Oxford Street was sweeter smelling!) so we left. I'm am staggered that this Hotel is 5 star; I have stayed and eaten in many 5 star hotels and this reflected none of my previous experiences. It really is a shame it's a great building with a great history in a great location let down by inadequate decor, ambiance and staff.
