I ordered fried eggs on toast with baked beans. The toast was barely cooked, still bread in the middle. The two eggs had been griddle cooked I think. They were crispy underneath, and fringed with quite hard crispy edges. The whites were still undercooked in parts. Not good. I too picked up on the weird ambience, which I can't explain but noticed clearly.

The cafe is perfectly situated with absolutely stunning views and a much needed stop on our journey but oh dear. The atmosphere was weird when we walked in, no background music or ambiance at all and so many odd cat ornaments EVERYWHERE, there were four other people in there all sat in relative silence eating when we arrived. A young girl came and took our order, no please, no thank you nothing. We only ordered a quick snack of a sausage sandwich and egg on toast with two lattes. The sausage was crispy & the eggs were rock hard and crispy bottoms. At nearly £20 you’d expect it to be semi decent. We ate in silence whilst being stared at the whole time by the owner/chef and staff, I never normally leave reviews but this whole experience was just odd. When we left to pay they didn’t even thank us or say goodbye. If I’d have know there was other places a very short distance away I’d have waited and gone there instead. If creepy weird is your thing with overpriced badly cooked food then this is the place for you!

We did our usual trick of working our way through a list of dog friendly cafes in the area for breakfast, this time caravanning near Corwen; and of course the best of the bunch was the one on the last day of our stay! Had we found this on day one, or just gone through the list backwards, we would not have needed another cafe to try. I confess to a moment of doubt when we arrived at the Country Cooks' cafe, its spick and span appearance and lay out reminded me of the good old Little Chef's of my youth, convenient but nothing to write home about. Well, I'm not writing home but am writing about the Cafe; a warm friendly welcome and free breakfast, but only for the dog, we had to pay for ours! I had no qualms about paying for it either, a traditional fried breakfast and lots of it, thick cut large rashers of bacon, no corner cutting on the choice of sausage and don't tell the wife, or doctor, but the fried bread was beautiful and unless I was trying to convince myself it wasn't overly greasy, oil laden. A fantastic end to a break away that was troubled by struggling to find a breakfast we'd want to return to that was within striking distance of the caravan parc. We found what we were looking for, but too late to take advantage of it's retainability status.

Spotlessly clean, both inside and out. Immediately on entry we were made to feel very welcome by the owners, as was our doggy, who was served 2 doggy biscuits straight away. Mum had the homemade quiche and "salad" which consisted of pretty much every salad item and fruit you could think of, beautifully presented. I had the all day breakfast which, again was smashing. Tea and coffee were hot and good quality. We felt very relaxed and chatted with the lady owner about their cats, of which they several real ones and hundreds of pottery ones ones the windowsills. Would highly recommend and will certainly return when in the area.

Arrived to a bunch of young girls starring at us, sat and asked what we would like, we was only ready for drinks at this moment, they returned 5 mins later to take our order, food was served very quickly, my spag Bol was like a kids portion and swimming in water and taste less. While eating our meal with wife and son, the young staff was all stood near by looking at us and giggling. We then realised the cafe was closing in 20mins so wanted to eat up, they started to brush around our feet, felt very uncomfortable and rushed so wife and son left there food (which was very dry), and asked for bill to be given a bill of £40, for dry fish and chips and tasteless spag Bol swimming in water that we had to rush and leave. Won’t return here again!!

This was our first visit and what a little gem. When we arrived there was plenty of seats available however, within 30 minutes it was nearly full, including a party of 13. There was plenty of staff and the service was good. I had been looking forward to trying the pancakes with bacon and syrup, they were delicious. My husband had a grill and said it was very tasty. We both choose to have a dessert, I had homemade treacle tart with ice cream my husband had jam roly poly with custard. We are new to the area, so pleased we have found this great place. One of the worst experiences I have ever had in a restaurant… EVER! We arrived looking for a spot of lunch whilst on a girls weekend away. Firstly when we entered the atmosphere was horrendous, several tables eating, but it was silent in there. We were greet by a very young lad, he was friendly and asked what we would like. Due to the atmosphere we weren’t sure if to stay or not so we asked for some more time to check out the menu. We could overhear the staff chatting about us, quite loudly as it was so quiet in there, 2 minutes later an older lady came to the table and asked what we wanted, again we asked for some more time, to which she dramatically rolled her eyes, tutted shrugging her shoulders an walked off. At that point we decided we would not be staying, I believe the lady was the joint owner, but how on earth they have any returning customers with that type of customer service is beyond me.

Such a shame as we came here on Google recommendation. When I arrived a lovely young lad greeted me and sat me down. The atmosphere however could be cut with a knife, despite there being many customers the noise level was so low you could hear a pin drop. When the rest of my party joined me we did consider leaving due to this strange atmosphere but decided to stay as potentially the food was going to be worth it. At that point the young lad came back to ask for our order and we asked for a little bit more time. Within a few minutes a lady came back and asked what we would like to order. I said we were still looking at the menu. SHE ROLLED HER EYES, shrugged her shoulders, huffed and walked off. So, we left as she clearly didn't want our service.

We have passed this place so many times, usually on the way home from Wales and ha e said numerous times.." we must call there for pancakes". Well yesterday we actually did call on our way to Wales. What a fabulous little place. Hubby had a breakfast, and said it was great. If you wanted extra items on your breakfast these could be ordered in addition to the main options. I have to say it looked lovely. I opted for the chicken and crispy bacon salad with flatbread. What an utter delight. The best salad I have had in a long long time. As well as the usual lettuce etc there was radish, plums, strawberry, pomegranate, apple, pear, blueberry...it was a salad and a fruit salad. It was amazing and so refreshing on such a hot day. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the place was spotless. Toilets were spotless too. Plenty of car parking and beautiful views should you choose to sit outside. Will definitely be calling back here to sample other delights on the menu.

Just left here after popping in for breakfast with my partner and 2 kids. We ordered hot and cold drinks and food. The menu itself was confusing, you could only have hash brown's with certain breakfasts, beans with only certain breakfast etc. There wasnt one with everything on. Our food come before our drinks. There were 3 children waiting on (who looked petrified constantly) and an old man cooking who liked to use a piece of kitchen roll to keep wiping his nose whilst cooking, not once washing his hands. Food was OK. The man shouted at a girl who used the wrong number to take an order. Its a confusing menu so I can't blame the poor girl. Saw the girl stood biting her nails. Table next to us asked for sauce and the boy answered them whilst digging for gold in his nose. The lack of hygiene we witnessed was disgusting. When we went to pay we were charged wrong and the old woman who was dealing with it kept huffing and puffing like it was our fault. When I asked for a copy of my receipt I was given no eye contact and my receipt slammed onto the counter rather than my hand that was waiting for it. Such awful customer service. Very rude old couple.

Local sausages and the leanest bacon they import themselves from Denmark to ensure quality - and it does. Although simple this was by far the most enjoyable meal of the whole holiday and the best value. Just wish it was closer to where I live !!! My husband and I travel to north Wales for a week in April and another week in October. We have done tbis for many years. We always used to stop at The Rhug, a few miles south of Country Cooks. However over the last few years the standard at The Rhug has fallen drastically. The menu become too 'designer' - totally unsuitable for the average traveller, especially with children, or those, like me with allergies. Prices too high, staff attitude should be better and tables not cleaned before customers seated. We travelled the few miles north to COUNTRY COOKS. What difference. Smiling, welcoming staff. A menu catering for all, goid value for money and most of the food home cooked.

The friendly owners are well aware of the Dragon Rally dates due to the volume of bikers calling in throughout the weekend, and are always understanding of the cold, bedraggled and often rather muddy groups shambling across the threshold in search of coffee and hot food on Sunday in particular. With plenty of parking, excellent coffee and a good view across open countryside, it's a convenient place to stop for a decent breakfast and a warm up, before journeying onwards.

Came in, on way south, after a day and night walk. Plenty of parking space if you have a precious car. Ordered a brekkie which came quick and filled the gap and in good portions. Staff are friendly and happy to chat and make conversation when not busy. Nice coffee as well on my revisit list

It was 16.30 hours and we were made welcome and told to pick a table. There were others in the building but had plenty of choice as to where to sit. The building was well lit and when ordering were not rushed. We found out when our food was served that they were due to cloes for the end of the day at 17.00 hours. The food was good and hot and well presented. We were never rushed and even when we had finished the main meal (and that was all we went in for) the time was after 17.00 and we were asked if we would like anything else from the menu. We declined as we still had quitre a journey to do and it was already dark, and I do not like driving in the dark

1st impressions. Had a bad feeling just with the lack of atmosphere but young lady welcomed us in a friendly way, No customers at all. We decided to accept whatever happened next in case we might be pleasantly surprised by quality and value. Sadly even the basics were wrong. It became clear that quality fresh good food is not high on the agenda. There was no evidence of the food offering at all, not even pictures in the menu. 3 young staff and 2 older people who might have been owners were wondering around the soulless room that is in need of serious Updating. Uncomfortable 70's style tapestry seating which was mainly fixed to the floor old fashioned wimpy bar style. Drab, dull. We were invited to sit anywhere, and then approached by a friendly young lady immediately who wanted to take our order. Asked for time to look at the menu. Menu tellingly had enormous number of choices. Not a good sign. Could see no food at all displayed in the cafe. uninspiring menu. Just a list. Approached by a second person within a minute of our asking for a minute to look at the menu. Ordered drinks. Tea arrived in fingermarked leaky plastic pots. -Then the order for 2 meals was taken and delivered to table within 5 minutes. Frozen Chips, Lamb burger, no garnish, no veg. No sense of care taken in presentation. Very poor quality, thin, over cooked exceedingly dry burger,as were the frozen chips. Bun toasted and no relish or anything at all to make the dry offering more appetising. Instead, had to use the sachets of sauces ( all unknown cheap poor versions of branded sauces). Steak and onion in a bun described with chips and salad arrived. No salad, no onions. Dry as sand. Staff went off making their own toast snacks and sitting and chatting together in Welsh at nearby table. This was the only sound. No background music, no ambience. Cafe heaving with hundreds of cat ornaments over every window ledge and all the shelves. Another couple came in. Saw our food and commented that they would just have a drink and eat elsewhere. We hoped this would become a new stop on our journeys through Wales. Sadly no amount of complaining would have changed the way this cafe operates. ( We will never complain when it is clear that the issues are not simply about an establishment having a bad day. ) - don't take our word for it. Go and see for yourself. We have simple tastes and wonder how it can go so wrong when so many cafes get it right. We will not return here. Felt furious with ourselves that we suffered it all and paid over £16 for such an insulting offering.

as per a contributor below. I have on and off used CC for 10 years, on our trip into and out of Wales. ie it was so good we did stop twice. Always Full Breakfast.this time, bacon was dire.too salty..cheap ?? and the whole experience did not set my teeth zinging....you know..when you bite in and there is a rush of..something!!.. probably cholesterol ! :-)So ..we did not call in on the way out of Wales.Lesson one...for the cost of some decent bacon, the return footfall did not reappear.:-( .. Use quality produce as your weapon , as long as I leave satisfied in the stomach ..the wallet, can jog on. lol.

Me and my family always visit here on our way to Wales for lunch to break up our long journey. Staff friendly and always remember us and ask how we are. They were able to provide my little daughter with a high chair without needing to ask for one which was kind. Food itself is simple but tasty. Only downside was that there was no baby changing facilities, even though there is ample room in ladies toilet to put a table.

We have eaten here about 15 times in the last 3 years and it's always superb. Spotlessly clean, friendly polite staff and owners, a wide ranging menu and most importantly lovely tasty food.

Great place to stop off for a break on your travels. Very friendly staff and clean and homely surroundings. This is the second time we have visited this cafe, we had the soup and roll, Welsh cakes and a drink, all very good, especially the homemade soup! Will definitely recommend to family & friends.

We would always visit this place on our way to the family farm in north wales. The owners are fantastic and we love their cat ornament collection! They would always remember us and it was a stop on our journey to look forward to, especially for a great breakfast. Today we went back after a break of a year or two and were so disappointed! The food was poor quality, frozen and overpriced for what it was (lunch food) and although the staff were quick to sort our order, it was a bit off putting having them sit around on the next table talking about the calories of all the food etc. Maybe we should have stuck to having breakfasts there? It was such a shame, probably won't return in a rush/ return at all :(

Needed a brew and I've been meaning to call in for a while, so glad I did. Very friendly staff and very clean, hygienic café. Cat mad proprietors with hundreds of cat figurines dotted all around that adds a homely touch. I only had a brew, but the food coming out to other customers looked great. Clean loos as well! If you need a bite to eat I can recommend this café, no problem at all.

Our server struggled to fill the cones and the venue is slightly down at heel but.. Interesting flavour combinations, very tasty ice cream and worth the treat if £3.85 for a single cone

Stayed and ate here after escaping from a terrible nearby campsite. The room was cheap for such short notice and was surprisingly posh, although the absence of a wardrobe was a bit annoying. As to the food, it's fine for what it is. There's a fairly limited set menu and the portions aren't massive by Welsh standards, but it was all very well done and the service was quick and efficient. A good budget choice.

Advertised a gluten free chippy but won't serve gluten free after 7pm, the stuff was rude and couldn't even be bothered to put my food in a bag 😉

Super friendly locals. Myself and my brother (visiting from Australia) spent an excellent evening there. Although we did lose 'the Ashes' on the excellent pool table. Wales 1 Australia 0. But we'll be back to try and level up!

Very good pub until we were asked to leave because our dogs were ‘barking’ (a maximum of 3 times) after spending nearly 4 hours here we had a lovely experience with people and staff welcoming our dogs until one older lady told us to we had to leave if our dogs were going to bark which was for a very short time at another passer by 🤷♀️
