Very polite staff accommodated two scruffy walkers for a last minute afternoon tea in their comfortable well decorated lounge - excellent quality food and we weren’t left hungry which is often the case in London where we live. You absolutely get what you pay for, we’ll be visiting again if we’re in the area.

We recently stayed at the Painswick for four nights and the overall experience at this comfortable, subtly sophisticated hotel was excellent. We were upgraded on arrival to a lovely suite, much appreciated and enjoyed. We had dinner in the restaurant every night and the food was as delicious as many previous reviews have stated. The fish dishes, cod and stone bass, were particularly memorable. Nothing was too much trouble for the predominantly young engaging staff. Our daughter, baby grandson and their dog joined us later in the week and all were looked after with attention to detail, humour and understated professionalism. Thank you for a lovely few days in the beautiful Cotswolds, we hope to return later in the year.

Absolutely amazing food, really outstanding and I am quite a connoisseur. All three courses were delicious, salmon sushi I for starters, lamb for mains and mango sorbet for pudding. It’s rare you get such quality food. And the staff is really friendly, helpful and not stuffy or snobbish like in so many high market restaurants.

We were in Gloucestershire for the Easter weekend and as this was near where we were staying and had good reviews we booked it for Easter Sunday lunch. Parking is very limited so we parked in the main Painswick village car park and walked down a steepish road. The dining room is attractive and large , but not noisy or crowded .The food was good. The two or three course menu is very reasonable. My husband and I had a starter and main course and our daughter had a main course and dessert. The cheese souffle starter was very good, so were the pork and the beef roast and so was the cod. We washed it down with a reasonably priced glass of wine , and ended with tea and coffee. The roast meats were tasty and tender with a generous helping of vegetables, and accompaniments such as apple sauce for the pork. My only criticism is that the roast potatoes were over done and very crisp, but that was something very minor , and our daughter loved her bread and butter pudding. We were comfortably full after our starters , main and very nice bread but another time we will skip starters and try one of the many desserts. WE had to wait a while before being able to get the dessert menu but othjerwise service was friendly and prompt.

Two of us had booked well in advance for the tasting menu at the Painswick on the second night of our two night stay in Painswick as part of walking the Cotswold Way. It's a beautiful setting and the garden alone provides a spectacular setting, especially for us as we were here during the September heatwave. We very much enjoyed our cocktails in the garden as we eyed up what was to be offered on the tasting menu. The menu was excellent. There was nothing we didn't like, though particular highlights for me were the scallops, the stone bass and the lamb. Serving staff explained each course well and the accompanying wine flight was excellent. Though everything was enjoyable, if I have a minor criticism, I would say that I found some of the courses to be a little on the safe side. Yes, great quality ingredients were beautifully cooked and served but I would have appreciated maybe just a little more attitude and edginess from the chefs, to really let them display their creativity. As it was it felt just a little too classical. However, it's a minor criticism and certainly the Painswick was up at the top of the table in respect of the 10 nights of eating out on the Cotswold Way.

Stayed 1 night at the hotel which included the 7 course taster menu, hors d’oeuvres were served with welcome cocktails in the lounge then through to the main restaurant, highlights were the lamb and the “scone” hors d’oeuvres which were beautifully presented and full of taste, only disappointment was the frangipane tart which we found a little dry. The atmosphere in the restaurant itself was v relaxed with guests dressed down, nothing too posh, and the staff cheerful and welcoming, no pretentious anywhere! Priced at £80, we thought that it was excellent value and we certainly revisit.

I've eaten at The Painswick three times now, so feel I can give a rounded commentary on it. Obviously, I keep going back - it's a delightful venue, in a place that I love, and it's pretty good. I'd recommend it. But the fact is, the cooking never quite lives up to the promise of the menu, or to the prices charged. I've found that the exceptional service, the sense of welcome and the charming setting have generally outshone what's been on my plate. Important to state: the cooking is largely of a high quality and the menu is frankly thrilling, (and I give extra kudos for there being a full vegan menu, hugely welcomed by vegan friends I've visited with - but this should be displayed on the website alongside other menus). But three things let it down: 1) portions are too small, 2) there is a tendency to over-seasoning, and 3) plates come with too little sauce (why chefs make beautiful sauces, such a crucial part of a dish, and then seem embarrassed to put more than a tiny splash on the plate, is a modern affliction of restaurant cooking, and one the Painswick suffers from seriously). That's it. The dishes are beautifully conceived, with a mixture of familiarity and little surprises that should be so satisfying, but often don't quite get there. For instance, on my recent visit, the roast Cornish cod main course was served in an almost comically small portion, barely more than an inch wide. With the best will in the world, a finger of cod does not a main course make - but it had enough salt for a full fillet. That carried through for other courses: the scallop starter was delightful, but the scallops were small and needed one more. The lamb rack main was lovely, but small, and we had to request extra sauce (why not just provide a bit extra on the side rather than wait for it to be requested?). There's something about it all that just feels parsimonious and prissy, when it should be indulgent. Some restaurants – those at multiple Michelin star level – can justify minuscule portions through their dazzling creativity; but this isn't that, nor should it be. I want The Painswick to work. I really love it as a place, and for that reason I'll keep coming. And it's so nearly there. But for the reasons above, which I believe could be very easily addressed but appear very embedded in the approach, each visit has left me ultimately a bit deflated and feeling that I had not got value for money.

Booked a table 12th September for my husbands birthday, beautiful setting and were lucky with the weather as able to have a pre dinner drink outside. Table booked for 7pm, after initially ordering our food, it took a while for 1 starter to arrive (I didn’t order a starter), then took longer again for the main course to arrive. Don’t know whether they were short of a chef or two? Had to ask where the main courses were, which was a shame as the restaurant wasn’t even full. Waitress offered us a complimentary drink to pass the time. Food was flavourful once arrived, but the significant wait just took the shine off of a mid-week birthday meal.

Booked The Painswick Restaurant for my Fiance's Birthday meal as part of our weekend away. Completely blown away from the minute we walked in. Beautiful modern yet cosy hotel and the lush cocktail bar that catches your eye as soon as you walk up the stairs. We had a very warm welcome and very much to my delight we were unexpectedly offered the tasting menu, which was normally only available until a Friday evening, not a Saturday. We enjoyed a couple of amazing and unique cocktails and some appetisers in the bar area before going down to the restaurant to enjoy the tasting menu. The restaurant was warmly lit and the place was full of many interesting characters. The tasting menu was spectacular. Every course was so different and had its own story and super tasty. The wow factor was Chef coming out to offer one of the courses. That really did make the evening for us. It was such an exciting and delicious menu and one that was unforgettable. Such a great experience and we look forward to one day returning to the restaurant when we can also stay at the hotel for the weekend. Thank you to all The Painswick team for a magical evening.

We stayed overnight in the hotel and booked for dinner. The hotel was comfortable and staff very friendly. However we were very disappointed with the dinner - old fashioned menu and not executed well. Scallop starter was 1 scallop for £17 and the Beef Wellington was poor - not a great cut of meat and bland. Given the background of the Head Chef we expected more.

Last night we headed to the Painswick anticipating a first-rate meal. On arrival, Florina, the restaurant manager seemed a bit surprised to see us and mentioned that the restaurant was chock-a-block, but as usual made us very welcome and seated us in front of the fire until our table was ready. A few minutes later, she came back to ask if I had booked by phone or online. After a very few minutes, we were seated, not at our usual table and Florina returned once again to apologise and mentioned she had not received our booking. I recovered the confirmation email and, to my dismay, realised I had indeed made the booking—but for the NEXT Saturday evening. I apologised profusely, and she was most gracious in accepting this. She went to the trouble of moving us to a better table when it became available and we enjoyed a lovely meal, but more importantly, Florina handled a delicate situation with great diplomacy, insuring I wasn’t too embarrassed, never skipping a beat in providing exceptional service and a very positive attitude. Some things are more important than the meal itself.

It did take fifteen minutes before anyone came around to ask us if we wanted a drink, but that’s the only negative point. The burrata and chorizo to start with, followed by the lamb.

This is now The Painswick. Our experience with the restaurant here was simply fabulous. We are serious "foodies" with high standards and not routinely given to extravagant raves, but our dinner here earns just that. Our group of three left the table exclaiming about how every single item we ordered was thoroughly excellent - matched by the service as well, for a completely satisfying dinner experience. Not an inexpensive one, but well worth it to us in enjoyment and memorability. We remember it as the best single meal of our eight-day visit to the Cotswolds. (We are Americans.) We spoke with the young chef after eating, to tell him how much we had relished every course. I want to flag a particular favorite dish, but find I cannot easily do so, as - to repeat - every single thing we ordered was terrific. Sharing everything among the three of us, we had: two glasses of sherry (the Manzanilla 'Las Medallas' and the Pedro Ximenez 'Triana'); four of the starters (Isle of Wight tomatoes with burrata, gremolata, green olives and sourdough; twice-baked parmesan shuffle with smoked haddock and spinach; grilled octopus with capers and aioli, and sea bream carpaccio with avocado, coriander, and white peach); two mains: the Cornish monkfish with gnocchi, beetroot, etc., and the Beef Wellington; a side of Jersey royals; and a bottle of red. Capped by a salted dark chocolate cremeux and a glass of port. Ah (writing this several days later), I happily relive it!

Went for Sunday lunch having heard of its reputation for excellent food. It was very difficult to get to the hotel - had to drive through narrow lanes and parking is almost impossible. On arrival service was prompt and courteous. Ordered a sunday roast (lamb) and at a cost of £24 was disappointed with the overall quality. The portions were plentiful but sticking a large whole unsliced carrot on the plate suggests not much thought was given to presentation. The lamb was a little fatty but the biggest issue was the bland taste. I am not sure where they sourced the lamb but if they are going to charge a premium price then ingredients must be of a similar quality. Total cost was £31.50 including an Ok 175 ml glass of wine. A one off experience I think

good food in lovely surroundings. service bit slow due to staff illness but was very good food. Very modern décor for an old building would have been nice if fires were lit in winter. Also some of the décor looked a bit tired. But overall a funky atmosphere, good food in lovely old building.

Disappointing that in the restaurant the lunchtime specials menu is no longer available. Even though the place is always empty on Saturday lunchtimes. The hotel is now under new management but the food was not very nice. Fish was undercooked and very overpriced, chips were like cheap oven chips so not very tasty. Apple crumble for desert was far too rich. Overall we would not go back after this experience.

Went here after being given a voucher for a birthday present. We had our tea in an upstairs lounge which was very light and airy with great views. The décor was very eclectic and wonderful. We were warmly greeted and quickly served with a drink after which our tea was served. The sandwiches were fairly plain as far as the fillings went but the cheese and tomato chutney ones tasted great. Nice cakes and scones to follow as well as an orange posset. Would recommend this to anyone.

Great stay and lovely quirky rooms, the manager called Gresham (not sure on the spelling) really looked after us. On finding out that it was our anniversary he even gave us a bottle of Champagne! Then he was serving and looking after the restaurant and we had the tasting menu (my favourite way of eating) and we loved it, matching wines explained in a nice relaxed way and top notch service without being pretentious. Not everyone will like the decor and not your normal country house, but it's worth a try as you may just love it like we did.

The last time I was in this building was ten years ago when it was called the Painswick Hotel and we had an excellent and interesting lunch with some old friends who lived locally. We moved to Painswick early last year from London and have been working our way through all the hostelries and restaurant within a 15-18 mile radius revisiting some many times. Finally we returned to a familiar place for lunch and were terribly disappointed, we examined the lunch and dinner menus plus the tasting menu and as I cannot eat fish there was nothing to tempt me, also my wife was not enamoured. We left further stunned by the garish carpet in the dining room with its tables lined up round the outside of the room, so unlike the old Painswick Hotel which had the best restaurant in the area. We did not have lunch so am unable to comment further on the food. Instead we went round to the Falcon Inn.

I'd booked a groupon deal for a sparkling afternoon tea as a treat for my husband and I. Whilst the hotel is certainly grand and wonderfully decorated the service and food was certainly lacking. The sandwiches served were mediocre at best and the cakes OK. Tea was lacking, and we waited over 45 minutes after asking for some more. The staff were scarce and not exactly friendly. Won't be back.

We stayed here for two nights recently and had a wonderful time. Luckily we were in room 2, but our friends were given room 8 which was very dark with only one small window. Our deal included the taster menu which was excellent. A bit disappointed the restaurant wasn't open on Monday or Tuesday as the only other restaurant available locally was very, very busy with a long wait for food.Overall we enjoyed our stay and would happily return.

this is a very odd hotel which doesnt quite work. checking in was a mess with the receptionist seeming unsure whether we were booked in and had keys. the main reception room has a disgusting stained carpet. the staff were arguing about which drinks went to which rooms. we didnt have any hot water in the morning. on the upside the bedroom was comfortable and well equipped and the breakfast was well presented and tasty. it feels like a hotel in administration

I booked one night at Cotswolds 88 as part of a surprise weekend for my wife to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary. Unfortunately the service we received at this hotel was so poor, that it totally ruined this special occasion. My wife is 6 months pregnant and has been advised to avoid eating certain foods for risk of jeopardising the pregnancy. On review of the taster menu it became apparent that she was not able to eat most of it. As such we asked the waitress if it was possible to select something from the a la carte menu, to which the response was no and that if she chose a meal from the bar menu, then she was “not allowed to eat this in the restaurant”. Feeling a little aggravated by her direct and unreasonable response I decided to take the matter further by visiting reception, where I waited for 10 minutes to speak to the manager. Having relayed the situation with the menu, rather than apologising and helping us to arrive at a meaningful solution, he reiterated that there was nothing that could be changed or replaced from the set menu and instead he implied that I was at fault for “not pre warning the hotel of our dietary requirements”. Seeing as we have eaten in numerous restaurants and hotels in the past six months without pre-warning them of my wife's pregnant state we found this utterly strange, inflexible and entirely unaccommodating. I then asked whether it was possible to replace items which my wife was unable to eat with a substitute option from the bar menu to which we were told was not possible unless she ate this separately at the bar alone rather than in the restaurant, as the food from the bar menu was “not elegant enough to eat in a restaurant that has 3 AA Rosettes”. In general his attitude to me was rude, arrogant and his lack of customer service in a hotel of the level was totally unacceptable. From this moment on, the service in the hotel deteriorated further. The waitress forgot to bring us the final course on the taster menu; they switched off the music and raised the lights by 11pm and started to spray down tables as a hint that service was over and they wanted to leave; and the service at breakfast was extremely poor. In our opinion this hotel was all style and no substance and was entirely responsible for ruining a very special occasion for us. As you can imagine, we are both extremely disappointed and not in the least bit impressed. I think being awarded 3 AA Rossettes has clearly gone to their heads, as they were far too pretentious to be able to provide simple customer service. Not a hotel I will be visiting again, nor recommending to anyone.

We had the 7 course taster menu. It started well with the canapés and muse bouche. The next 3 courses were salads with a small change to each plate, The guinea fowl with one was so transparent as to add no flavour. The main course of lamb was good but the addition of a sculptured vegetable or two might have given the dish more colour. I loath coriander so was saved for the set dessert which my husband found very bitter with sour apple. The pina colada dessert given to me was delicious. Overall the chef put a lot of work into the food but it could have been so so much better,

Took the living social deal last weekend for the Friday night with a seven course taster menu. What an excellent choice. It may be a little more expensive than some of them but that extra attention to detail and the meal itself was worth it. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the room was airy and very large, we had room 16 on the top with views our over rambling countryside, the secluded grounds were great to sit in the sunshine, and the food well it was an absolute delight. The decor is quirky but interesting and the village of Painswick takes you back to regency times when you can picture the horses walking up the quiet streets.A visit to the church is a must. Thank you one and all

This restaurant in the truly enchanting Cotswold village of Painswick is a memorable venue. The ambience is relaxed and pleasantly welcoming and the Sunday lunch menu was a delight to behold....giving a wide range of options at very affordable prices. We went for the three course Sunday lunch which offers a great range of options....the roast beef in an onion sauce with Yorkshire pudding and horseradish was truly excellent....vegetables were also excellentThe desert(served in the relaxed environment of the adjoining garden) was also without doubt one of the most individual range of offerings...the rhubarb crumble was to 'die-for'!An excellent venue and one to recommend even for a reasonably priced mid week lunch

Fantastic foodie destination hotel - this boutique hotel is so stunning, well decorated and right on trend. The food was sensational, and some of the best I've eaten for sometime. Clever, and well balanced without being heavy. We went for the 10 course taster menu, and also requested smaller 100ml matched wines to go with the courses. Canapes and fresh bread all set us up nicely for the main event - loved the pork crackling with the canapes.Amuse was great fun and very clever - really good start followed up with Duck and Foie Gras - this was a picture on a plate - very pretty and tasty.Next up squid and octopus, followed by one of the major highlights of Spring vegetable with a lavender smoke - so fresh! Delicious. Then the mains of Brill followed up with Suckling pig - both great, and very pretty on the plate.palate cleanser - did what it said on the tin! very fresh and clean. The next two were desserts of pina colada and chocolate delice! Both fantastic, and right on the money for my sweet tooth :) To finish were petit fours and coffee! Was a truly fantastic night for sure, and we'll be back.

We went into the Cotswold88 hotel on the way back from a walk this afternoon. We saw the advertisements outside for afternoon tea/cakes and scones and thought it sounded perfect. We went in only to be unable to find any staff anywhere. We went into the restaurant - no one there to serve us, we went into the bar - no one there to serve us, we went up to the hotel reception and rang the bell several times - surprise surprise no one came to serve us. Pew were just about to leave when I spotted a lady crouched down behind the bar restocking the bottles. She obviously knew we were there as we had called out numerous times, though she had clearly chosen to ignore us! When I asked her if we could get some afternoon tea or cake she looked at me quite annoyed that I had disturbed her then looked at her watch (it was twenty to 5, it said that afternoon teas etc were served until 5.) she then waved us off with a menu and told us to take a seat and she would come take our order. However she did not come take our order and after sitting there for quite some time we decided to leave. I have to say I think it is the worst customer service I have ever experienced. They clearly did not want our money so we went elsewhere and had a lovely drink and snack with MUCH better service. There are so many lovely places to go in Painswick, my advice is go elsewhere and don't waste your time or money in this place.

Enjoyed a wonderful meal here. This is not your run of the mill fare, it is exciting contemporary food that combines intense flavours to create interesting results. It is not cheap, but you get what you pay for and there are actually some incredible offers available such as a 2 for 1 3 course sunday lunch for local residents only which at £26.50 for two people is an absolute bargain. The weekday lunch menu is also incredible value. The kitsch decor is not to everyones taste, in fact bits of it are hideous, but at least it is not dull and anyway it's the food that matters. This really is a credit to the area and it is refreshing to have the opportunity to eat something a bit different that you would not prepare at home. Will definitely be back, keep up the good work.

First, you need to give yourself plenty of time as parking is very limited. We were greeted immediately on arrival and shown to our seats. The taster menu seemed very exciting but it was a long wait before any food arrived (About forty minutes). The amuse Bouche was a great start but the next couple of courses were disappointing. The food was well presented but the taste was less impressive and rather salty. Then the duck was excellent as was the trout. The lamb was very good but the black quinoa and anchovy leaf shaped swirl was a case of presentation over taste. We then waited an hour for the dessert. The lemon soufflé that arrived was superb but huge and not suited to a tasting menu but I still managed to eat most of it. The whole meal took nearly four hours which was at least an hour too long. There were plenty of staff but they didn't know what the food was and had to ask the chef so some training could help. Take some interesting friends with you if you go as it will keep the evening going.

had a reasonably good meal in a nice setting but it wasn't top class. One or two areas just fell short of the top class. I gave the restaurant 4 stars instead of three, in reality the whole package was probably 3.5-3.75 out of 5. The areas that could have been better were a slightly cold dining room when we came in, my wine glass wasnt clean and the desert was a underwhelming. The start and main course tasted very nice and had really nice flavours. The food looked very nice on the plate. Staff attentive and tried hard to ensure we have a nice evening.

This hotel is not only in one of the prettiest villages I have ever been to, but it's also one of the best UK hotels I have ever stayed in... and I stay in lots! The staff are extremely friendly and welcoming. Great decor throughout the hotel. I didn't eat dinner at the hotel but the restaurant menu looked delicious. My partner & I stayed here as a surprise for my Birthday.I had no idea where we were going. It is a very beautiful building in a stunning setting…. Before we walked in I thought it would be ‘oldy worldy’ inside. I couldn’t have been further from the truth – it was very modern with a classic twist, perfect! Our bags were taken from us & up to a beautiful room with windows on 3 of the walls – the views were breathtaking!!!Shortly after arriving there was a knock on the door and it was our Prosecco & handmade truffles.Another knock and it was our tasting menu for the evening…. Mouth-watering!!!The room was perfect, enough space and everything you could need. Wonderfully deep spa bath and great products. Our tasting menu was outstanding – I have had many tasting menus and there are always 1 or 2 courses that aren’t great. I couldn’t say this about this tasting menu… ALL the courses and the accompanying wines were perfect and very well explained. After dinner we went to the bar and had a couple of cocktails, great background music and a lively atmosphere. We had our breakfast delivered to the room – eggs Benedict whilst studying the views! All in all a perfect stay.We had the ‘food lovers package’ which was a Detmar room, Prosecco, truffles, tasting menu with wines and breakfast for £399. Worth every single penny.

The meal itself was very good and they were obviously trying really hard to impress creatively. The staff however seemed very new and inexperienced. I was staying in the area on the 7th of October and had heard some great things about the food at the Juniper restaurant within the Cotswolds88 Hotel so I booked a table for me and a guest. The food was first class and the setting was brilliant but what really stood out was the service I received. I have been to many "top restaurants" and frankly the service levels have been mixed but from arrival to leaving the staff here were first rate. Anyway what you really want to know is how was the food(it is a restaurant after all) well I had the scallops and pork belly starter 10/10 and would highly recommend followed by the Venison main which was cooked to perfection and for dessert I had the coffee cheesecake(not to my personal taste nut my guest devoured it!)To Summarize - well worth a visit, try the scallop and pork belly starter, the price isn't cheap but you get what you pay for and the service and setting are amazing!

We came for a meal at the Cotswold 88 following a review in the daily mail. We were staying at a near by hotel for my husbands birthday and fancied somewhere a bit special to eat. We were not disappointed, superb food, lovely atmosphere. Canapés were served to us in the bar area whilst we enjoyed a pre-dinner cocktail, followed by a goats cheese mouse before at our table, before our 3 course meal. We will definitely be back, next time to stay at the hotel as well!

I did wonder if the 88 referred to the number of times I was going to have to manoeuvre through the narrow village streets with the deadly one-way system, but I found it after only three circuits.Worth putting in the satnav for next time. The tourist office in Stroud had recommended coming for lunch on a weekday, when you get three courses for only £15. Might be £15,99, I cannot remember. So we did, and it was a Wow experience. We would have paid more than twice that for a lunch of comparable quality in London. Excellent ingredients, well cooked, beautifully presented, in luxury surroundings with professional service that also managed to be warm. Drinks were pricey, but we didn't mind.TIP Parking is limited, you might have to go round and round the villageTIP Access is difficult for anyone with reduced mobility. Steep narrow stone steps to entrance, and then a further two flights to the lavatories from the dining room.

Recently stayed at Cotswolds88 on the livingsocial deal. The room was excellent, impressive 4 poster bed and very large room. The bathroom was amazing with huge freestanding bath. We ate in the restaurant on the tasting menu. The food was excellent, although the menu different to the tasting menu on the website - so don't expect this or you will be disappointed. However the service was not good. I don't know if it was because we were on the deal but the restaurant staff didn't make us feel at all welcome. Infact they made us feel like we were an inconvenience. We ordered a bottle ofsparkling water but got just a glass of flat water. We ordered red wine which came to the table freezing cold. They did rectify the problems but not without a grimace. We don't expect amazing service but it was very disappointing. The breakfast food was great and service a little better. Check-out is 11, we asked if was possible to get a late check-out and they said it was fine, but didn't tell us until we settled-up that the extra hour cost £15. Don't be caught out on this! Overall - the room was great, food was good but service disappointing. But when on a deal guess you can't complain too much.

Great tasting food but we left hungry and didn't feel like we had eaten even one course which is disappointing for the price you pay. We complained and the complaint was dealt with very professionally and to our satisfaction. Fantastic flavours, very much let down by the tiny portions. I've never left a Michelin Star restaurant even feeling slightly hungry so this for me was a huge let down. If you're looking for something more of a tasting competition, then this is the place for you.

We ate here on a Sunday evening to celebrate a birthday after being recommended by a friend. We were shown through to the bar but no bar staff appeared for quite some time. We eventually ordered drinks and went to sit on the beautiful terrace for an aperitif, with sublime views over the valley. Some canapes were brought and despite emphasizing several dietary requirements both when booking and on arrival, these were not acknowledged when serving the canapes nor any suitable alternatives offered. We were very disappointed to learn that the tasting menu was not available on Sundays, and there was no mention of this anywhere on the website or when booking. The food was inventive and well cooked, with some unusual choices. I very much enjoyed my starter of summer truffle salad and main course of Halibut and Chicken, but they were rather sparse. Amuse bouche were served without explanation. The dessert was rather disappointing but others praised theirs. Wine we ordered was poured in a haphazard order and some expensive wine we were surprised to see had not been decanted despite pre-ordering this to allow time for aeration. The waitress seemed fairly clueless about ingredients, dietary requirements and service etiquette which is surprising in a restaurant that is clearly trying to be high end. The decor was not to everyone's taste however I very much liked the decor in the hotel, it is bright and quirky and makes for a pleasant and unusual setting. The restaurant was quite quiet and lacking in ambience but it was a Sunday evening so only to be expected. If they up their service levels and staff training this could be a great restaurant.

Shout out to Stephan who went above and beyond to help a housebound local resident in Bisley this week. I took a punt and enquired if they did cream teas for delivery locally and, despite this not being the norm, Stephan and his team put together the most amazing cold lunch platter with scones and delivered it without question. A new side line maybe? Thx Stephan.
