We had a very delicious dinner followed by a very comfortable night in The Nest. A beautiful room with some lovely features. The guest's pantry is a good idea. Breakfast also very relaxed with a good choice of delicious options. Service throughout was friendly and efficient. We'll be back!!

My wife and I have had lunch here before and so we booked an overnight stay, bed and breakfast, with a dinner the evening before. We had a lovely experience. The attention to detail is superb. Everyone at The Cotley Inn is so helpful, professional and friendly. It goes without saying that the food was extremely good and the accomodation was extremely good too. Its location adds to the charm. We can't wait to return asap and would recommend this lovely place as a destination pub.

Our favourite for a roast beef and Yorkshire pudding Sunday lunch. Great local ingredients, superbly cooked with some lovely local cask ales. And good value too.

Wow what an amazing little find , this great place is definitely worth visiting. We checked into The Drey with an extra push we entered a welcoming room with a lovely message from the owners Ben and Millie . The rooms are beautiful and suitable for a short break or a business trip or use the long room for a great mini conference or meal with your team. The food is fresh and local we enjoyed a night in with lots of hospitality from the team at a friend’s birthday night. The locals who are in the bar area , are so friendly welcoming and proud of the pub and restaurant . Can not wait to visit again and enjoy the massive garden and views. Breakfast is lovely and relaxing and a nice greeting from Jasper and Winston the pub dogs.. So it’s really doggie friendly . Just had a lovely 2 night stay here. Our room "The Nest" was bijou but had everything we needed. As well as everything being of excellent quality it's the little touches that elevated it: A plug socket by a mirror, Easily controlled underfloor heating, An excellent shower that was easy to operate with the controls far enough from the shower head so that you don't get squirted with cold water when turning it on. Lovely toiletries A little bottle of fresh milk left at the door in tbe early morning to have with the lovely coffee. An email on the day we were due clarifying how to access the room etc. The pub itself was lovely and friendly and the evening meal was excellent. There was a large group of us at the meal but the service was faultless. The continental breakfast in the morning offered plenty of choice. Our thanks to all, we really enjoyed our stay here and look forward to returning in due course.

After days of being cooped up by storms and rain for what seems like weeks, we decided to celebrate the appearance of the sun with an impromptu lunch at theThe Cotley Inn. As always, we were delighted with the warm welcome (for us and our two dogs), the homely but chic ambience of the place and the simply amazing food (and drinks) … not to mention great service by a super team of staff. Magical place - looking forward to our next visit already!

We stayed at the Cotley Inn for two nights in the lead up to Christmas. Everything was absolutely perfect: the hospitality, food, room and setting are unbeatable. Every attention to detail has been thoroughly thought through and personalised. We can't thank the team enough for hosting us and look forward to returning in the near future!

We came for Sunday lunch and were really bowled over by how good our whole experience was! The “Bloody Shame” was absolutely delicious, the pheasant katsu was a very creative dish, and the roasts were out of this world. All this was made even better by such a warm, personable staff at the pub. Thanks so much - we will come again!

We had another fabulous meal at the Cotley last night (28 Dec) As soon as you walk in someone says hi! Be with you in a second. Truly a great team here. Professional yet still retaining a common touch. That’s a good thing by the way! Table was waiting and menus were given and drinks were ordered. Smart service. But not rushed. The table is ours till we’ve eaten our fill. That doesn’t take long either. Portions are generous and delicious! We had everything from trout (my starter and so delicious) could go on. Duck. Venison. Burger. All absolutely delicious. Thank you for a wonderful meal.

Birthday Lunch celebration for my father and his partner. Great service and excellent food - again. As Mr Sitwell said "A mighty fine pub with warmth, style and flavour". And our room was fantastic.

Had lunch here and it was simply fantastic. Starters and mains had an amazing mix of flavours, side dishes of veg were delicious. I don’t normally eat desserts but after the first two courses had to try one. One of the best meals we’ve ever had and can’t wait to go back.

We enjoyed another fabulous dinner at the Cotley this evening. Packed with diners, and people at the bar yet it wasn’t noisy, the service was impeccable, and it was warm and cosy on a chilly evening. As for the food, sensational for a country pub that’s a cut above, without being pretentious. Thank you for squeezing us in at no notice. We’ll be back.

Simply the best dining experience ever. Beautifully run by the wonderfully professional hosts, Ben and Maddie, and their lovely staff. They have created a diamond of an establishment which uniquely melds fine dining with a true country pub experience. An absolute must 😃

My wife and I recently spent two nights at the Cotley Inn, staying in the Holt, and we had a fantastic experience. The service was outstanding throughout our stay, with every staff member going above and beyond. The food and wine at our evening meal were also exceptional. I highly recommend it for a relaxing, off-the-grid getaway for couples. We absolutely loved it!

This is a pub as it was always meant to be- really lovely food, nice ales and, above all, friendly service. It is clearly very popular amongst locals, unsurprisingly, but great service with a welcoming smile underline a really nice dining and socially happy experience. We stayed at Cotley for two nights, dining on each night, once from the excellent a la carte menu, and also from the pub menu, both of which were really good and very fair value for money. Also there is a fairly balanced and very adequate wine list on offer. Breakfasts offered a wide choice and were attractively presented and filling. Our room, whilst small, was comprehensively equipped and comfortable, and had clearly received lots of careful thought. We were especially appreciative of the complimentary pantry snacks, which came in handy for our walk in the splendid surrounding countryside. Walking is very good in the whole area, if you don’t mind a few hills!

This restaurant was booked by our friends who we were staying with for the weekend. The table was booked for 7pm. What a buzz. It was busy and you could see the staff were working hard and providing a very happy atmosphere. The food was absolutely delicious. Beautifully presented and a very good selection of different things to try. We would thoroughly recommend visiting the Cotley Inn. You will not be disappointed. Just one thing though, we would have liked a little breather in between the courses please.

We stayed for two nights at the Cotley Inn and had dinner there on both evenings. The food was wonderful and imaginative and the wine list also very good. We found the service by all the staff, bar none, was extremely efficient and friendly. We will definitely be going again.

We stayed overnight on our way back to London from Cornwall. The rooms were lovely and the food at the restaurant was delicious. They even found out we couldn't make the breakfast in the morning because we had to leave at 7am, and were kind enough to make us bacon sandwiches and leave them outside our door in the morning! So kind and thoughtful of them, we will definitly be back to stay.

Starting with the positive very friendly staff and really good service. Sadly we were disappointed with our Sunday lunch the beef was very chewy, roast potatoes and vegetables very bland. The desserts were lovely. Will definitely visit again for the lovely setting and service but will avoid Sunday lunch.

Recently stayed for our 4th time at the Cotley Inn for a weekend away from the kids. We love it so much we have already booked again for early next year for our 5th escape to the most perfect of inns serving truly devine food/wine and fantastic draft ales and cider, whilst nestled in beautiful secluded rolling hills, perfect for anyone who loves a muddy country walk off the beaten track and appreciates a proper friendly country pub where time stops still and the stresses of the modern world are left behind at the turning off from the A30. The Cotley Inn is simply fantastic in every respect and the complete package.

Had a fab overnight stay here this weekend. Everything was absolutely on point. Customer service was super friendly and intuitive, food was fantastic and there was a good drinks list. Superb friendly service from everyone. Lovely relaxed atmosphere. Impressive fluffy towels! We stayed at the start of the week, when pizzas and tacos are served in the idyllic garden setting with a campfire going. Highly recommend!

I made a booking for a table this evening for my partner and I for dinner as we were on a course nearby as part of our NHS suicide intervention training. The evening started well and the menu was tantalising tasty and my partner ordered the fish main from the menu. When it arrived there was no mention of the fish dish being non-filleted or was any warning given regarding bones or even fish knives or forks being provided. Yet, though the dish looked inviting, it was completly indelible due to the sheer amount of fish bones present. It was unfortunate, but the basis of our disdain was the curtness of the staff, the contemptuous manner in which they treated my partner after being offered an alternative dish the establishment went on to charge for three main courses instead of two. In this respect, I felt the most offended as genuinely there may have been a misunderstanding, but the arrogance of the establishment was outstanding in its core. I will never go to this place again as they caused so much offence to my partner…

My husband booked us a room at the inn for the night for my birthday (and our first night away since becoming parents!) and our stay was just the best treat! Our room was absolutely charming - gorgeous outdoor area and we loved the suite set up - having the beautiful lounge area and then separate mezzanine sleeping area. Everything from how the room was styled with gorgeous coffee table books to the luxurious bed etc was on point. The staff were warm and super helpful, our evening meal was excellent and the breakfast in the morning was amazing - high quality and gorgeous setting. We honestly can’t wait to stay again!

We were two couples. We had dinner and bed an breakfast. It's so refreshing to see a place like this so full in the middle of the week and in the summer holidays. Obviously the Cotley Inn is doing something right. The staff were very friendly and able. The food was a good standard, and good value. Service was excellent. The building is lovely and creates a great ambiance. I'm guessing it's 17th Centuary, and it's full of charm. Our room was well presented, and comfortable. The breakfast was a simple buffet affair, but with great fresh ingredients - a top class continental breakfast with fruit, grains, toast, cheese, fresh bread and pastries, and a boiled egg if you fancied it. It felt like we were back in Venice! We've lived within 30 minutes of 'this hidden gem' for 20 years, and I can't understand why we've not been there before. It certainly won't be another 20 years before we go back.

We stayed in the Cotley Inn for a night on the way to Cornwall & so pleased we did. Fabulous pub with a very warm welcome. Just a few mins off the A303, the pub sits amongst the glorious rolling countryside of the Blackdown Hills. A wonderfully peaceful setting. Locals started to arrive before the doors to the pub opened at 18:00, a sure sign of a popular place which was fully booked on a Wednesday evening! We chose one of the smaller rooms & it was nicely presented, very comfy & had everything needed for a relaxing restful stay (inc toiletries & wonderful home made cookies upon arrival). Food was fabulous with a choice of pub classics and more interesting dishes showcasing wonderfully fresh local produce (confit of duck encrusted in fennel & almonds was delicious!). Great choice of drinks & wines by the glass. All in all, a lovely night away with a very warm welcome & fabulous food. Can’t wait to stay again.

Fantastic food, fantastic service in a lovely spot in Somerset. Both our starters were outstanding, the burgers we so tasty and I would say the best burger I’ve ever had. My lemon and lime poset was so good. I highly recommend this pub.

We went to the Cotley Inn to eat. It is difficult to find, buried in the Somerset countryside, but we had eaten there before, so knew what to expect. We had a wonderful welcome from the staff, and as it was a sunny evening, we ate our meal on the patio in the sunshine. The food was very good, but we did feel the waiting staff had forgotten us after the main course had been served. We haven’t stayed at the Inn, so cannot comment on the rooms, but we imagine there are some challenging walks in this area, given the countryside that surrounds the Inn.

Beautiful pub in the Devon countryside. We turned up on spec on a Friday lunch time and it was really busy. It was lovely weather so we sat outside with the dogs on the terrace to enjoy the sunshine and the view. Great service from very friendly staff. We’ve booked for an evening meal later in the week - with the dogs!

An interesting drive down narrow lanes leads to a gem. Farm reared sirloin steak was superb, service was efficient, friendly and responsive and the star for me was the basil oil, wild garlic and leek dipping bowl for the pre-dinner bread a week in the refining - attention to detail, taste and vibrant green colour exemplifies the skills behind every aspect of the experience

Excellent service and delicious food. We shared a starter of salt and pepper squid with a radish and grapefruit salad which was delightful. For mains I had venison loin with a faggot , cumin hasselback potatoes with a harissa jus which was fantastic. My wife had a chicken thigh burger which was similarly good. Great deserts too. One small and I mean small criticism the portion sizes were on the small side. But this did not detract from the overall enjoyment. Definitely worth a visit.

The Cotley Inn, hidden in the hills just outside Chard.. Like all best kept secrets it won’t stay that way long.. It started with a warm welcome( book in advance) .. The Sunday Lunch menu was excellent, the Staff were , friendly and attentive, and the food.. my 90 year old Father, said it was the best Sunday lunch he had for a long time.. In short, thoroughly recommended.. we will definitely be back..

We visited this wonderful place for my wife's 40th and were blown away with the place. The staff were amazing, friendly and very professional. Our table was lovely, set next to the log burner, it's also nice to go somewhere were the tables are actually big enough for two people! The food was incredible, not cheap, but worth every penny. Wonderful.

We stayed as a family with our three young children for a weekend and it was fantastic! Warm welcome and incredibly friendly team. We ate dinner with them on one evening and it was as great as all reviews told us it would be. Breakfast in the morning was a relaxed continental which was perfect for us!

This is a lovely pub located on the outskirts of Chard, Somerset. We ate 'pub classics' i.e. fish & chips & ham, egg & chips which were really good but the other dishes also looked nice. The prices are fair and the service is good with a lot of local produce. I would happily recommend you go here.

This was our second visit and it didn't disappoint the service is 1st rate and the food is perfect, the perfect place for a special occasion.

We stopped overnight at The Cotley Inn for the first time on our way to the West Country. The room was quiet, cosy and well appointed. We had a drink before dinner in the buzzy bar and then had a delicious meal including, the best venison haunch we have had in many years, which we were able to complement with a nice wine from the thoughtful wine list. The highlight of the complimentary breakfast was fresh eggs from their own chickens. The Cotley Inn is a real gem and we look forward to our next visit when the weather might also permit us to enjoy the gardens.

What a little gem tucked away in the Somerset countryside. Very romantic and beautifully designed. We were made to feel very welcome by our hosts and enjoyed a snack and drink before being shown to our accommodation. We stayed in the Holt with our 2 dogs. The accommodation was beautiful and we had everything we needed. Absolutely loved the use of the pantry, the ice cream was delicious, what wonderful touch! Also appreciated the outdoor hot water dog shower, with the most delicious smelling pooch shampoo! We enjoyed some lovely dog walks and this proved Very handy after a couple of VERY muddy walks! Dinner was delicious and the atmosphere in the pub was lovely as was the log fire. After a great nights sleep we enjoyed the most amazing breakfast! Nothings too much trouble. Thank you guys, just what we needed!

Our third weekend stay at the Cotley Inn in 18 months. Before finding the Cotley Inn I didn't understand why some people tend to go to the same place on holiday year after year. Now I understand. When you find a gem where nothing disappoints you would be mad not to return and risk spending similar money somewhere else. Ben and Maddie are such welcoming hosts to their amazing rural hideaway. We are already throwing around dates to return later in the year. The only downside to having found the Cotley Inn is that now every pub/restaurant/hotel is benchmarked to the Cotley Inn and in our 20 odd years of experience of weekends away (particularly in the west country) nothing is as good.

This is a very special place. Everything is understated and brilliant. It is a rare find to have a busy establishment with both locals and visitors alike. On a Thursday. The accommodation is fab, the food divine and the beer excellent. Thank you Ben and the team; I will be returning.

We didn't just eat here, we were fortunate enough to stay for two nights with a Mr & Mrs Smith voucher from our family. On our arrival here, we met Ben the owner who kindly brought us a nice cup of coffee each and gave us a nice welcome. We stayed in the Nest, to which was extremely comfortable, clean and very snuggly. The bed, pillows and linen was all glorious. A lovely complimentary tray, tea, coffee and homemade truffles. Ben also brought us some lovely fresh milk. The grounds are so lovely with beautiful views and plenty of areas to eat and drink at. You can park outside the accommodation. The breakfast is amazing and Ben makes you feel so comfortable. Ben will always look after you and nothing is too much trouble. He is really a very chilled and calm chap and takes everything in his stride. The produce used is amazing, the muesli is wonderful and you can add as many dates, hazelnuts etc as you wish. Very tasty. Fresh eggs from the hens who live at Cotley Inn. The best part of the breakfast for my wife was the smoked salmon, which was the best ever. Good strong coffee. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent as was the service, everyone is so friendly. It was nice meeting the Dogs too. Ben you should be so proud of Cotley Inn it was Perfect. We are talking of a return and perhaps we will find the Donkeys next time. Thank you Jacqui & Ron Hayden.

We would highly recommend spending a night or two at The Cotley Inn. The room was fantastic, the food at the restaurant was delicious (we would recommend the Scallops starter), and all the staff were helpful and friendly.

Bit of a trek to get to down some lanes that those not used to them might find a little daunting, but at the end of the journey is a gem of a pub. Lovely service and a good menu.

We stayed at the Cotley Inn for two nights in The Holt and can thoroughly recommend it. We stayed in the The Holt, a wonderful two-storey bolt hole, which is beautifully furnished - I particularly loved the roll top bath. The food was excellent and there was a good selection of options on the menu. We will definitely be coming bcck and staying the extra night to enjoy the Sunday roast. Thanks to Ben and his team for a really wonderful weekend.

Went for Sunday lunch today. I can safely say that you won't find any better in the local area so save yourself hours on Google or following other people's recommendations as it doesn't get better than this. We had the Pork and the Beef followed by the most amazing Brownie, washed down with a glass of wine. Portions are great, with the offer of more of everything from the very friendly staff. I would recommend either an early or late table as it does get busy and parking is limited. Can't wait to go back.

We are willing to drive over 50 miles to eat here! The food never fails to impress, the service is impeccable and you are welcomed like old friends! There is so much choice, even for those with dietary needs like me. You must try this place, you will need to book in advance!

We booked The Drey which is compact but has everything you need for an overnight stay. We spent an afternoon relaxing with a few drinks, fabulous bar snacks and Six Nations. This pub is friendly, staff are warm and inviting and they really have the whole experience off to a fine art. Well done to your team. A really good meal. Our first visit and we were impressed in every way. A warm welcome, food was amazing and the wine list was reasonably priced. Great pub! Beautiful rooms set in a lovely courtyard setting. Excellent food and a great choice of wines. Really good service with very friendly staff. Just a lovely place to visit. Highly recommend.

Absolute nightmare to get to, miles of bendy single-track road with grass growing up the middle. Very limited menu, Mediocre overpriced food. No indication of what drinks were available at the bar. The most unsuitable location for a restaurant. Full of barking dogs. Complete crap!...
