Costa Coffee in East Cambridgeshire

The dirtiest coffee shop I have ever been in . Filth everywhere , overflowing bins, stairs thick grime and spilt coffee. Whole shop disgusting avoid at all costs. Visited in morning .

I don't get this brainwashed idiocy. This is not a direct criticism of Costa but ar all these "Emperors New Clothes" places. Because forsomebizarre readon my wife has to have a coffee with a fancy name we ended up at this place for "breakfast". For the same price i could have had a proper breakfast in Sainsburys with a hot drink that was actually hot. Instead a cardboard tasting bread sandwich with essence of cheese and ham and a tepiddrink.Sheep!!

After walking around Ely early on a Monday morning,needed coffee to warm me up also has a toasted tea cake. They came together at the same time so no waiting around I was asked if I wanted jam and butter great! Needed the toilet later on which was clean. Yes I will be going back coffee was great as was the tea cake. The staff were friendly and helpful and one had a set of reindeer antlers on 😊

My friends and I went to Costa in Ely, in the town. The tables were filled with previous customers dirty cups, wrappers, etc. The incompetent staff, we’re chatting amongst themselves. We will be visiting Starbucks or Silver Oak on the market place in future visits to Ely.

Some say all Costa's are the same, not true. What makes each one different are the Teams who work there.. The Team here are Professional, Polite, Engaging and Attentive. 10/10

Surprised to see the reviews of Costa Ely on here - as I regular customer I find the young staff to be very welcoming, always ready to take my order and incredibly chatty. It is clear to see they are often understaffed but they always do their best with many regulars (like me) looking forward to our visits. I hope these young adults are note put off by these reviews (which I do not think should call them out by name) and carry on with the great work they do in a challenging customer facing role. Costa in Ely has always been popular with our family however lately we have been discouraged from going by the sour faced staff. Katie in particular always looks like she never wants to be there, she is rude and never smiles or looks like she enjoys her job

A pretty standard Costa branch in the centre of Ely, pretty spacious and following usual COVID guidelines. A few outside tables, was quickly served but it was a Sunday afternoon. Toilets were clean and accessible. Generally ok.

Sandwiched between several central Cambridge eateries, this Costa branch is roomier and deeper than most. It’s alongside the varied market stalls, and right in between the Five Guys burger joint and Franco Manca. From a distance, the frontage of Costa Coffee is almost completely obscured by the creeping green umbrellas and outside chairs for Don Pasquale restaurant – but that hardly matters as everyone sits in the coffee shop, gazing out. Apart from a socking great grey pillar in the middle, the sightlines are nice. The range is the usual mix of pastry snacks and muffins, the coffee is fine, and service is friendly.

Lovely staff. Friendly and took my order very fast and I got my drink with in a few second if paying

Dirty nasty toilets with a manager who was not accessible or open to comment, coffee was average, food ok but they are all done nationally my main concern is the hygiene and cleanliness, if they can’t even keep their facilities clean what state is the place behind the scenes ? Very bad, go to the cathedral coffee bar across the square, it’s much better!

We ate lunch here because my children wanted something familiar to eat, which is understandable. In terms of space, comfort, price, etc this branch of Costa Coffee is no different to many and performs generally favourably. However, I am among a growing number of diabetics who optimise disease control by avoiding carbohydrates, and the inclusion of healthy salads in Costa's repertoire has been a very welcome addition because otherwise the food (and most of the drinks) on offer contain an exceptionally high and unhealthy concentration of carbohydrates / sugars - a problem not just for diabetics but for the population in general (whether or not they know it). Therefore I find it exasperating to find a branch that couldn't be bothered to stock the one healthy option offered by Costa Coffee. Needless to say, I went hungry and won't ever be back.

We popped in here to grab some lunch, cakes and coffee. Before going in anywhere we will always check it’s dog friendly as we have a dachshund with us. On the door they have a very misleading sign saying everyone welcome with a picture of a dog alongside others. This is obviously service dogs but maybe the sign should be made a little more clearer?! After the staff members let us que up for 5 minutes pick our sandwiches and cakes only to tell us when we got to the till when they could clearly see we had the dog. We didn’t miss anything as the place looked pretty run down anyway with an unfriendly atmosphere and we was lucky enough to find a lovely little deli a few minutes away.

Stopped in Ely to get a drink in the Costa; closing time 6pm. On arrival @5.20pm the doors were locked and despite staff being inside they refused to open or serve. Unprofessional and disrespectful behaviour by Costa staff. Advice: do not waste your time trying to get served in Costa Ely !

Coffee was disgusting and the place needs a good clean, very expensive for what it is !!! We waited ages to be served (not busy) and the end result was only good for watering the plants, it was like drinking instant coffee ?

Great meeting place . Usual exceptional coffee . Busy but not full yet a 10 minute wait to be served when there were three behind counter ! A good place to relax

Always extremely busy, loud, and a very long queue, due to this we tend to always go to Caffe Nero on the high street!

Visited twice during the day and on both occasions they were very busy. Emma however was always smiling and clearly she knew many of the regular clientele. Very efficient and coffees the usual quality standard

Very busy when I visited, not especially attractive, there must be many nicer venues in Ely to enjoy a cup of coffee in.

Greasy place to meet people only downside it is always busy . Good coffee as expected but bags of atmosphere . Clean and helpful staff

Good place to go if you just want coffee/Tea/ soft drinks and cake Child friendly and wheelchair friendly also nice staff

We live in Ely and seen this costa coffee shop has changed from being a very clean too not so clean and the staff are too busy chatting to one another, tables never cleared.

Been here a few times and every time it's different. I've seen the staff just standing around chatting before but sometimes the staff can't do enough for you. The drinks can vary. We've had some nice coffees and hot chocolates and other times we've had coffee beans floating in hot chocolate and no caramel in a caramel latte, etc.

After visiting Costa in Ely I wasn’t that impressed , plenty of staff behind the counter I counted 5 in total but only one preparing coffee . We had a long wait for our drinks ,that were then served on a dirty tray and no napkins available without waiting again to catch the attention of a member of staff .

Up until yesterday, we used to pop into this branch of Costa, found the Staff extremely friendly and the food and drinks very good.

i come in here every morning and you are made to feel very welcome. coffee always great, its clean and very pleasant. All staff are fantastic especially the manager who is a young girl who obviously works so hard and long hours . same as the assistant manager.. lovely girl called eloise. Finally the morning staff called chari... what can i say... brilliant at her job.

A busy Ely Saturday so chosen this place as it has a good number of tables. Panninis and coffee were good as was the service. Good place for a short break.

Had a good cup of coffee asked for it not to be too strong and it was just right. Staff were very polite and friendly. Tables were clean.

I have to rate this as the wife always gets a coffee here with her eldest and youngest when in town. I have had one or 2 but personally not a great fan of these type of coffees - so giving 5 stars as wife has never had an issue

Exactly what you would expect from Costa - good coffee, friendly staff, usually enough places to sit inside or out. Very close to town centre so an easy place to meet people.

The usual Costa experience but nice service and a good location right in the middle of the town. Would go again.

Lattes ordenados. Llegaron con apenas ningún café. Pedimos un poco de café en vez de leche caliente y cobraban por el privilegio, así como la actitud del personal. Normalmente me gusta sin embargo café costa que no vamos allí.

Ideally situated this costa coffee is always busy . Yes excellent coffee and for a chit chat it is a good meeting place . Coffee was as you would expect . Only downside is toilets need to be inspected more regularly .

You have to wait so long for a coffee, staff always seem preoccupied with there own conversation. But a good space. Clean and tidy.

Used to be awesome then a with lots of staff changes it is now so poor! Drinks not made properly things missing like the sauce or cream or gold stars of star anise as happened today also glasses half full cold and just awful drinks in comparison to last year when they were so good. Going to change our coffee Sundays to elsewhere such a let down the last month enough is enough.

Had a coffee in here with my son whilst we waited for the girls to finish shopping.Bit noisy, as always & a bit cramped as well to be fair. Normal Costa products. I always leave these chains wishing I'd visited a local independent coffee shop but I'd had a couple of shockingly poor coffees in the previous day so decided to stay safe with a 6/10 coffee from Costas.

Much better now extended. Good space and range of drinks and eats. Space outside lovely when sunny. Great people watching space.

Visited this restaurant mid afternoon. There was a lot of staff who appeared to be standing around doing nothing. Lots of tables had dirty cups and crockery which should have been cleared away. However, the food was excellent and the drinks as always in costa very nice.

This coffee shop has obviously been recently refurbished and the coffee remains good. However, little attention has been paid to the sound levels and the place is uncomfortably noisy.

good the costa team work well together though avoid going there thirty minutes before they close as they start to sweep up and prepare for closing

It was very busy but we enjoyed a latte plus excellent toasties, together with some rather delicious cakes. It was good to be able to relax and enjoy our food and drink.

The newly refurbished Costa is nice and clean with flexibility to move tables around in the area at the back to accommodate larger groups. The coffee is consistent and of the chains in Ely I find this the best. But if tea is your thing there are lots of lovely independent shops - my favourite being Samovar Tea House.

Costa is always consistent. I bike from county to county and always stop at a costa somewhere. I've tried all the cakes in the counter and they are all nice! Customer service is always fantastic.Good food, snacks and drinks.

I am in love with Costa. At the Ely shop, there are no exceptions to what I usually experience throughout the country: the service is (99% of the time) friendly, the food and drinks are scrumptious, and the location is great. In addition, the shop has been refurbished this year, and it looks amazing! If you are a Costa addict, come here as soon as possible. If you are not, come here and you will become one!

Visited Ely and was pleased to find a Costa. There are some wonderful coffee shops in Ely but for me it just have to be a Costa. This one was very busy, the staff were just about managing we had our usual coffee and toast and enjoyed it as normal. I dont think this branch has been open long and the staff need to pick up the speed a bit before people get tired of waiting.

This was one of the nicest Costs coffee shops to visit but lately it has not been at its best. Tables are sometimes not cleared quick enough and it can be noisy. Otherwise, Costa is what you expect - a coffee chain.

I used to take coffee here quite regularly but on my visit last week I found that the shop has been refurbished with new seating.Coffee is still nice and the staff are friendly but the new chairs are packed in to increase the capacity and are just plain uncomfortable. Gone are the leather arm chairs and sofas. Now we have simple wooden cafe chairs and very small round tables. The whole character is changed to a simple cheap caff, noisy and cramped.I think they have headed off in the wrong direction with this new style.....

Ely is a great little City. Some gorgeous buildings. Sadly the Costa shop is not one of these. However, it's a good size cafe but was busy even early in the day. The coffee tastes better than some other Costas I've been to. What was nice was the warm friendly staff who were efficient.

the food and drink was a day brightener with the coffee suited to be for a wake up or just for a time to chat with others while the service was amazing,friendly and perfection

Visited as a large group and able to move furniture around to accommodate us. All had hot drinks and quality was good. Service quick and facilities clean.

Called in for a coffee on market day. It was quietening down after a busy day so no problem finding a table. Staff were friendly and the coffee very good. As usual with Costa as it is so busy the decor and furnishings look a little tired but the place was clean.

Very friendly staff , good coffee , in need of tables being cleaned quicker as people leave .......nice location , watching the people go by as you relax

In a very busy market town (very small city),this town is always busy.Step inside and you will see a coffee house with tables and seating packed closely to each other.If you wan a god coffee then come here .If you want quiet then be prepared to look elsewhere .Weekend are extremely busy even on a sunday.

We visited Costa in Ely on a Saturday morning and were surprised how busy and noisy it was so early. It was difficult to get to an empty table we spotted next to a wall. We had to ask people to get up and let us pass, which was not easy with the hot drinks. Why are so many tables crammed into such a small area? This Costa needs improvement. The drinks couldn't be faulted, they were excellent and the staff were pleasant, no mean feat on such a busy day.

Popped in from the rain before shopping, pleasent clean nice friendly staff, coffee and muffin paper to read what more do you require. A+

Every time I go into this Costa it always seems to be understaffed or the staff on shift needs a lot of basic training to be able to do their jobs to a satisfactory standard. Too busy with a queue going out of the door and one person on the till and making the dishes. Absolutely ridiculous! Slow service, avoid at all cost!

Busy branch, which I've visited on several occasions. Appallingly bad for 3g in Ely on vodaphone, so wireless hotspots necessary for work. Costa Elys is without doubt the worst and slowest internet connection. Even when quiet.

I never used to like Costa and when I did give it a try again there was always an issue, on one visit the previous manager sneezed into his hands and went to serve me food. When I demanded a refund as he had sneezed on his hands he did not even realise what he had done, yuk! Staff were rude and forever changing.Time has moved on and the change is noticeable with lovely staff, clean premises and fantastic customer service. I have tried other Costa but the coffee is always a let down compared to Ely. Hope the manager is praised often for the turn around! Good selection of food and ideal for families or solo stops. I have become a regular which I never thought would happen.

Costa in Ely never disappoints, the service is always great and the quality of coffee and food is perfect. I recomend the emmental and mushroom toastie. The tables and floor was very clean and the staff were really friendly. Will be back on my next trip to Ely.

I came from London on a business meeting to secure big deal I notice the coffee down this area not great. no where close to coffee London Turkish coffee amazing

Great staff, Great atmosphere, Great coffee, Great biscuits, (especially the giant Bourbons) & points to collect free drinks/food.

I don;t understand why the staff do not ask people with laptops and no drinks to either purchase something or move to a smaller table. When we have gone in there, often there are few tables and it is so annoying when there is 1 person sat at a table for 4 with thier laptop or doing interviews and they don;t even have a drink. Also there are too many 'Mothers meetings' You can;t often move in there for pushchairs.

Great coffee, plenty of seating, good customer service, wide variety of choices for drinking and eating, without an abundance of items for sale being pushed at you.
